I can't say anything bad about my meal. I split the seafood sampler for two and was barely able to walk out. The portions bigger than expected for the price. When this place is on point, the food is awesome. It's one of the few seafood places around Rockwall and the menu is great. My only challenge has been sometimes there have been off nights where the food is a little over cooked. It's difficult to cook seafood correctly as it's easy to create rubber. We had the sampler appetizer, which came with calamari, stuffed mushrooms, and jalapeño hush puppies. I was pleasantly surprised that they had malt vinegar for the hush puppies!! The calamari was excellent. We have tried calamari several places, and often it is very chewy. However, the calamari at Pier 101 was cooked perfectly. For our entree, we shared the Mixed Grill, which was grilled shrimp and teriyaki tenderloin, served with potatoes, brussel sprouts, and bacon. This was our first time eating here and overall it was great! Waiter was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Food was some of the best I've had in a while. If your business is going to carry a fancy price tag, it better carry food that justifies the cost. Anyone who pays $14 for two fillets of catfish and a dozen french fries has more money than sense. But I suppose that is exactly the clientele this business runs off of. They give you so little food that you mostly pay for breading, and if I wanted to eat fried garbage I would go to McDonald's, not here. It's more like a 3.5 rating. The place is in a great location and easy to find parking on a busy night. This review is also based off a first time experience and the items we ordered that night. I'm clarifying because we will go back to hopefully get a better experience. The atmosphere was good and this is a great place to bring kids of any age. Big plus for parents. The po'boy was really great and so were the fries. Loved the fries. The shrimp cocktail was sweet and the "juice" was more a syrup. I know everyone makes it differently, but it was the first time that I had it like a sweet thick syrup. It was good but not the clamoto juice that I'm used to. Now. The part that kinda killed it for us. We ordered 2lbs of snow crab @$18 a pound. The weird thing was the shell was so soft and bending that we couldn't get the shell open with the normal tools. We tried tearing them open and couldn't. It took using the hook to poke a hole in the shell and then peeling the shell back like a banana. The meat had a weird yellow tent to the area that was normally white. It didn't taste bad but it didn't taste like normal crab. We asked the waitress about why the shell was so soft. She never gave an explanation, but she did take $9 off the crab order. Not sure if that is the crab because maybe it's not crab season or what. But our waitress was very nice and helped us the whole time. The place was clean and easy to get in and out. I would love to go back on another night and give this place another chance. Just moved to Rockwall, and as someone who enjoys good eats, I naturally asked about good places to eat. Pier 101 is definitely a keeper. Located in Downtown Rockwall, it sits on its own building and lot with parking. It's simple decor is enticing. Simple yet comfy. There are two dining areas and a medium sized sit down bar. No booths for seating, but that was definitely ok. Now for the food. Full bar and a small beer and wine list. But, it was nice and not too much to choose from. The oysters on a half shell were very good. Their cocktail sauce was tangy and tasty. The oysters have a buttery smooth taste and texture. Tasty. We also started off with the loaded fries and enjoyed those as well. The main course brought many smiles to our faces. King and snow crab. Enough said, no need to explain those further. As great as was expected. The fried catfish po'boy was delicious. Not to heavy, perfectly fried and the flavors all lined up. The crab mac n cheese was gone before I could try it. It was gobbled up without a word. My daughter is very picky about her mac n cheese and she didn't say a word as she ate. She wanted to enjoy every bite. It was delicious! This seafood place did not disappoint! Our waitress was nice, friendly, and offered us an appetizer while we looked over our menu. The Shrimp cocktail!!!! Is amazing!! And felt like there was shrimp in there for days lol a good size for sure. My husband had the ceviche plate and I ordered the quinoa salad. Okay, so Covid-19 has us all a little Cra-Cra but this restaurant brought it to a new level. We had 5 lbs of crawfish delivered that were overcooked and had no meat. I had to call TWICE to get a manager. They said they would replace it. We obviously didn't want the crawfish. I asked if they could replace with shrimp. They said yes, but with an up charge. What? You screwed up and you want to up charge me for less food? I'm all about helping out our small businesses during this time but this place screwed up. I refused to pay the extra $10 they wanted to charge me we when they arrived. So they called the police. Fortunately they were very nice and the situation was resolved. Much improved from a year ago when I wrote they skimped on the shrimp basket. As a Louisiana foodie from the Gulf Coast, I can strongly recommend the shrimp po-boy. Large, fresh-tasting, perfectly battered shrimp, on a soft, french bread poboy bun with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The fries were perfectly battered and seasoned as well. I added the remoulade sauce to the po-boy and it was heaven. A tad bit on the pricey side at $12.99 but I'm happy to pay for quality. C'est bon! read more

My best friend and I stopped here on a whim because we were craving crawfish and we randomly found this place and we now have a new favorite restaurant. The restaurant is incredibly clean and the environment is just gorgeous in general. The employees are so friendly and very intelligent, and the pricing is very reasonable for the quality of the food. Our service was so great, everything was brought to us quickly and our waiter personally went out of his way to recommend some great drinks and appetizers. We didn't realize that we had stayed past their closing time and felt incredibly embarrassed, but the staff never once made us feel awkward and still worked hard to make us happy. I have wanted to try Pier 101 for awhile. We went on Sunday, after church, for brunch. We immediately found a table, and the waiter took our drink order. My husband ordered crawfish, my daughter had oysters, I tried the crab cake eggs Benedict and my youngest had the kids fish. Overall my food was delicious, my husband and daughter said their food was just okay, and my youngest didn't eat her food because it was too hot. I should add that when it comes to seafood, we are snobs, we lived in North Carolina for two years, and you can't get items in Texas that are as fresh. We had the chocolate torte for dessert, I don't think they make this in house, it seems like a dessert that comes frozen to the restaurant. We will come back to try it again read more

First time to Pier 101 and it did not disappoint. The chowder is a must!! The gumbo was just as yummy however hubby and I both preferred the chowder. I had the blackened redfish and it was as seasoned perfectly. The veggies had a lot of flavor which complimented the fish. My hubby had the grilled mahi mahi. He thought it was good but the redfish was the star. And to top it off we ordered the key lime pie for dessert. Let me tell you...it was amazing!! I'd go back just for the chowder and pie. Just bummer hubby thought the cocktail sauce was a bit to tart and what we thought was ranch was actually tarter sauce-- oops. I had fried oysters, they were flavored well just a tab bit runny. My wife, daughter and I stopped by this restaurant on Sunday for an early evening meal. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, with great suggestions and service. We ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell and the crab fingers as appetizers. Both were very good. The crab fingers were a very unique idea and the compound, melted butter was delicious. The oysters were fresh and tasted of the sea... hopes were high at this point. My wife and daughter debated on several entrees, although both "wanted" the King Crab legs, but at $38/lb, they were hesitant. I assured them that King Crab was worth it and I didn't care, as long as they were happy. I ordered the seafood piaya. The seafood piaya was good, but the rice was a little over cooked, but is often the case with piaya. The flavor was good, seafood was fresh and I ate it all. At this point, the restaurant would've been given a 4.5, but... Both King Crab plates were served in a plastic bag, removed table side and placed in a crab bowl. They were so severely overcooked that the crab legs bent when trying to crack them. The meat was soft and mushy, and reminded me of the snow crab legs that sit on the bar at a Chinese buffet. My wife and daughter couldn't crack them, so I asked for a pair of scissors, which they found and brought out. At that time, the waitress and what appeared to be some type of manager asked how they were? I told them that they were overcooked, and a microwave should never be used to cook King Crab legs. Their answer to this dilemma was; "we'll explain it to the guy who cooked them, so he won't make the same mistake again." Cool, glad we could help square away kitchen problems, and make other customers visits better, but what about the $80 I just spent for 2lbs of Crab Legs? Oh... I forgot to mention that for almost $40, all you get is microwaved King Crab legs! Yes we ate them, although I should've sent them back. But, I also will never return and my review is not stellar. I understand it's Sunday evening and maybe the "real" chef wasn't working, but surely it doesn't take a culinary degree to microwave crab legs? If you do go to this restaurant, do NOT waste your money on the King Crab legs... head down to Galveston or Corpus, because this is not the place for them. Rockwall has some great restaurants... this one is not on my list of recommended. Try Sammi's Pizza Getti or Chiloso... but if seafood is on your taste buds, I would suggest Red Lobster over Pier 101. read more

I'll tell you what Pier 101.... those had to be the best daggon crab legs I've had in my 14,235 days on this earth!!! Being from the Northeast, I've loaved for some good crab that was cooked with some good flavor and not loaded with salt to compensate. You've hit that marked! I promise you... the other one place that I previously went to has just lost a customer!!!! I truly can say my prayers and ask the good Lord to lay me down to sleep as I snooze off this good food!!! I mean.. my God... even the potatoes and corn was slamming! I also appreciate the extra care you took to pack in an aluminum pan with a lid and had my broil in a plastic bag so I wouldn't spill it on my way home. After some Yelp assisted searching for dinner and a recommendation from our beer server we headed to Pier 101 on a Saturday around 7pm. Love supporting local, and this was my first time to downtown Rockwall. They have indoor and patio seating. The inside is all concrete with super high ceilings and while the night number of tables for the space, it was too noisy for me. Since it was a nice evening out we picked patio. Large spacious picnic table seating. A few TVs. It's pretty empty- no plants or other decorations to give it a little charm. Attentive server and we got drinks and food orders in quick. Heard some other tables with complicated orders and large groups 8+people that appeared to also get their orders promptly and correctly. Good drinks (general cocktails) made right. I had a chicken po-boy (so sue me, I don't eat fish!) It was huge and dressed well with fries and I added some slaw to it as well. My guy had a fillet of salmon. Although in reality it looked like a full on steak. It was light fluffy and delicious. Wild rice and brussel sprouts rounded out the meal. Here's where I lost my appetite ( and stars). The flies. There were flies everywhere. The patio is not screened in. Nor was the a/c fan on strong enough to keep the air moving. No ceiling fans. To me this doesn't speak to actual cleanliness out there either. I packed my dinner up pretty quickly to take home where I wasn't constantly fighting the flies. I would give zero stars if I could. My coworker and I stopped in for lunch and received the worst service I've ever had. My salmon salad came without the salmon, so I had to wait another 10 minutes for rushed and burnt fish. My coworker ordered chicken pasta and had crawfish shells in his noodles. This is a nice casual and fast restaurant. It's good for large groups of 8 people and smaller ones of 1-2. Unless you're on the patio, it's loud, too loud and hard to hear but the atmosphere is good. I had the cat fish and it was delicious. Lightly battered, flakey and 2 good sized pieces. For $1 I had substituted the fries with very tasty and healthy sautéed vegetable mix. The clam chowder is a bit spicier than the usual and makes if more fun to eat. The shrimp quesadilla great as well. Prices are very reasonable and the quality of ingredients seems good. The customer service is very good. Note to establishment: just don't be in too much of a hurry to grab those plates as we may be sharing and thinking of ordering more. Ordered a Shrimp and a Fish PoBoy. Fried fish was boney at one end. Luckily that was the last couple of bites and that being a major turn off, as far as food goes, didn't cost my son much in the way of getting his fill. Received an oyster poboy instead of shrimp. No biggie, right?...... WRONG!!! The server let me know that it was my mistake because "I ordered oyster", but not to worry she would get it taken care of. I told her I would eat it because we were in a hurry. Again, she looked to be noticeably frustrated letting me she already took care of it. I ate the oyster poboy and hope that it wasn't tainted by the bad taste I had in my mouth from the server. The opinion I had tonight was that the oysters were OK, at best and were over cooked. Again, I had a fairly foul attitude by this point and this causes food to become sub-par. At the end of it the server removed the sandwich from my plate and told me "she" paid for it. I did NOT ask for my meal to be comp'd and resented it. Had the meal been bad enough to be comp'd I would NOT have eaten it. I did tip the amount I thought the sandwich would have cost me and left. I am seriously doubtful that I will ever be back or recommend this place, and that is sad. Had I received better service I probably would have had a better experience and this could be a place I would make more of an effort to frequent.
