With a varied empanada menu sure to please any picky palate, lots of patio seating, a dog + kiddo friendly atmosphere, and a giant photo of a manic Dali looking like he's sounding his barbaric yawp over the rooftops of this establishment, who wouldn't want to come to PieBar to fill their pie hole? We stopped here to get lunch. They have a wide selection of savory and sweet empanadas in various flavor profiles. It was tempting to get them all! I settled on splitting a Mountain Mamma (I was after all, technically a mama on this mountain), a green chile pork, and strawberry rhubarb with the family. Since all the hand pies are typically premade and nestled in a display case there was hardly any wait and I was out the door in no time. The interior is small but they opened up all the doors to let more air circulation in which made it both cooler and safer for ordering. There are two patios to choose from. One is behind the shop. The other is adjacent to it, and gated off with a tiny kid's playground available. Both patios seem to be dog friendly and there were a lot of puppers (Including ours) paying careful heed to any pie-related plummets to the pavement. I tried a bit of the strawberry rhubarb and the green chile pork. I thoroughly enjoyed both. The fillings were plentiful and the empanada crust was flaky and tender. The toddler took it upon herself to finish the entire Mountain Mamma all by herself so perhaps that makes her more of a Butte Bambina. Since typically the only way this gal will eat her veggies is by sneaking it into other foods she eats, this was quite a compliment to the shop's pie prowess for her to eat this mostly veggie meal. For your reference it contains spinach, bacon, garlic, mushroom, parmesan, and red pepper flakes. I was still a bit hungry after eating the equivalent of one empanada so I'd probably get at least 2 per person if you're aiming to eat them as a full meal. I don't know what to say about this amazing place. Went Friday afternoon and had dessert empanadas and almost cried they were so delicious. Ended up going back Saturday morning for breakfast empanadas. Every bite was delicious and to top it off the staff was great too. I live in Phoenix and I will be road tripping back to Strawberry just to go to the Pie Bar. Saw a review on here from some lady named Emma saying it wasn't great. This time on my visit I went with the Mountain Momma, Red Chili Beef, Cherry, Pineapple Upside and Molten Chocolate, some to eat right then and some for the ride home. I also went for the habanero cilantro chimichurri and icing deep. The mountain Momma was new to me, it was a empanada stuffed with spinach, garlic, mushrooms, bacon, parmesan, red pepper flakes and on its own its delish but put some of that chimichurri sauce on it and hot damm that is tasty! Let me warn you though that chimichurri isn't weak so if you can't handle heat, its not for you! To be totally fair here, we literally had our eye on this one from the MINUTE we saw the giant sign upon arrival in Strawberry. There was absolutely no way we were going to bypass PieBar! And, it really was because of the amazing "screaming" sign! We did not know they were signed up to join our overall perk. So, we absolutely hit this joint up on our own time & went to town- in literal form, ahead of knowing. It's no lie when they say this is the most popular. A line forms VERY quickly! We sincerely appreciate the menu posted outside, that way it lets everyone ready get to the counter to order & those of us contemplating can take a moment to decide. Because there isn't a shortage here of options! We really appreciated how patient the staff were. We put in an order for 3- each of plus planning to share & indulge in just about every flavor try we could fit in. Veggie, green chili pork, apple, strawberry cream... I mean, there are SO many options & it's just impossible to go wrong! While they did have a very cute picnic table next to the shop, we also had a very cute cottage with a perfect patio- noticed the canned drinks in the cooler so opted for a few adult beverages to take along with our empanadas... talk about a wonderful afternoon on the patio! Absolutely loved the side of icing coming with the "dessert" variety. But, every empanada was cooked to perfection & better than anything I've ever been offered. The flavor in the green chili was out of this world! Strawberry & cream was just a slight step down from literal heaven! The sauces on the side were generously provided, though you can request. If it is a busy time- expect a slight wait in line. Otherwise they are working hard & ultimately have great service... I don't know how they manage to do it, but there are even full pies to purchase! Delicious meal and sweet treat if you're heading through Strawberry, AZ! I was headed up to camp on the Mogollon Rim and stopped here for lunch with friends, we were all pretty happy with our picks. The Pecan pie is tasty, and lasted long enough for me to finish eating later that night. The Mountain Mama was hearty and flavored well, and the mac n cheese pie was veryyy cheesy. PIEbar has forever ruined empanadas for me as any empanada since PIEbar does not taste up to par. You choose savory or sweet empanadas. We had the Mountain Mamma and the PIcadillo Beef for the savory and the apple for the sweet. To go along with these, we got the equally phenomenal Chipotle Lime Aioli and Icing dips. SO, SO good! The employees are having fun, rocking out to their music and chatting with the customers. We remarked this to the lady taking our order and she said it is a company rule that you must have fun. It makes for good service. Just a fun note on their billboard signage--it has an unusual picture of this what seems to be a mustached Italian-looking singer. I inquired about as to why they use this for their signage and was told that when they were first building, it was used by the contractor as just a place holder. The owner loved it so much she told them to just keep it. Absolute strong 5 stars. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. We loved this spot! Note that all seating is outdoors due to the small location. It includes a counter to order where you're given your empanadas in a bag. We loved the energy of the staff and how friendly they were. We ordered a ton of different kinds. We highly recommend the green chile pork, mountain man, mountain momma, and picaddillo beef. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them! Our fav sauces were the chipotle lime and creamy green chile. We actually came back for a second time before we left the area to grab more! My hubby was not too excited about going to the Lavender Farm in Pine, but when I told him he'd be treated to some killer empanadas, I didn't even have to resort to arm twisting! You can't miss their unique sign that just yells PIEbar, and as we passed it on our way to the Lavender Farm, we thought we heard the dude say, "hey, where are you going!" They reheat nicely in the toaster oven! We ended up getting and sharing the Mountain Man, Mountain Mamma, Mountain Baby, Green Chili Pork, Mushroom Stroganoff, Strawberry Cream and Cherry Empanadas with Creamy Green Chile and Pepita Sauce and Habanero/Cilantro Chimichurri! Holy freaking cow!! Best empanadas I have ever had!! The service was fantastic! The girls were singing and enjoying what they do...which makes the experience even more amazing!! Sean and I first had the Beer-B-Q and the Mountain Mama...for dessert we had the Blueberry pie. All of them are to die for!! The very next day I took my girlfriend and brought home 15 pies!! No joke! We of course had a Blueberry one in the car and it is a must have! Not too sweet....absolutely delicious!! Mouth is watering as I am typing this up!! Was this place good? Yes and no. I agree with another Yelper that my expectations about this business somewhat exceeded the reality. We learned about PIEBar on an episode of Arizona Highways, which absolutely raved about their empanadas. So we added it to our list of places to visit. First impression - yikes, it's small! The bright red & yellow building is only 329 sq feet! There is no seating inside, obviously. They have tables on both sides of the building, but it was cold so we ended up eating inside of our truck. When you go inside, you are greeted by an inviting showcase of their various empanadas. The lady behind the counter was friendly. I asked who was the smiling face on their logo and she explained it was Salvador Dali. He was simply a "placeholder" the owner used on the logo, which people liked so they kept it. The menu helpfully lists empanadas in order of popularity. I chose the top 2, The Mountain Man (sausage, potato, gravy, cheese) and Chicken Pot Pie. My husband also chose Mountain Man and Cordon Bleu. I also got a sweet "lemon bar" empanada. Each of the small pies was about $5. After his first bites of The Mountain Man, my husband said, "I'm not sure you're going to like this. It's spicy." I was surprised because the menu did not indicate it was spicy. But he was right - it was quite spicy. I asked later about that, and was told it's because it's made with chorizo. Despite the spiciness, it was very good. I can't say that about my chicken pot pie, which tasted like a Swanson TV dinner folded into a empanada. My husband did not much like his cordon bleu which he said consisted of dry chicken and he couldn't even taste the cheese. However, the lemon bar empanada was delicious. I wish I had bought several of the sweet ones. I'm guessing the sweet empanadas are better than the savory empanadas. Bonus points to the clean restroom in front, a welcome sight after driving 1.5 hours. Would I come again? Yes, but only for the delicious sweet empanadas. read more

We were headed back to Phoenix from flagstaff and took the Strawberry AZ route. Took a pit stop at strawberry and found this hole in the wall. What a perfect looking spot and location to have a pie bar. The Dali board immediately caught our attention and we went in. The fresh empanadas, mini pies and pies were coming out of the oven and the smell of the freshly baked items made us to try everything there. We tried Chicken pot pie, veggie empanada, Buffalo chicken in the savory. Strawberry cream, peach, cherry, mini apple pie, mini Berry pie in the sweet. Everything we tried was delicious, fresh and had amazing flavor. The sweet was not overpowering the peach oh so fresh, felt like a mini cobbler. The chicken pot pie was so comforting, felt like home made. This place is great, I am glad we took a detour and made a stop at this cute little place. The pricing is about $4.5 on average. Over priced, unfriendly staff, they push a political agenda. Not worth going out of the way to get these. As of today I won't even pull off the road to stop here again. They all seem very arrogant for a small place that sells pies along the roadside. Recently came back to get some of the pies while we were out in the area. This wasn't our first time here. We noticed like most places the prices had gone up. My issue here is that their prices had already been high to begin with. We asked if any breakfast pies were still available and the lady at the counter snapped back and said they were already out. We order what we could paid and left. The lady who took our order was borderline rude, absolutely no pleasantries or customer engagement beyond asking what we wanted, trying to upsell us drinks or dips and if that was all for our order. No one else that worked there acknowledged our presence at all. When I went to pay I selected "no tip" yet I was changed a 25% tip on my bill. I know I should have verified the price before paying. But I just wanted out of there and I rushed. I don't and would never tip at a quick service food location. I went to look on their Instagram page for contact information to see if can get the tip reversed and I found the store often pushes their politics on this platform. I don't agree or disagree with their politics but when business push their politics I tend to stop buying from them as they are now a pushing their personal views and not their products. Over all poor experience, mediocre pies (by the way they buy frozen pies to sell pie slices, empanadas seem to be made in house). The pies are good over all but are not worth the price. They should be in $3 to $4 price point. But $6 is expensive for something that's as small as they are. I don't expect this business to try to take the feedback and build off it to improve but who knows maybe they will see the light and start offering better service and products with in a reasonable price point and not charge a tip when I didn't select one. read more

What a cool little spot! I was on a solo day trip with my dog and stopped by the cute little place. I bought the chicken pot pie empanada and sat outside with my pup to enjoy. It was soooo incredibly good that I ended up buying 6 more 2 ham and cheese, 2 Philly and two more chicken pot pie and three dessert pies to bring home to the fam. Adorable place! Great concept. I've been wanting to stop here for a long time and finally did. I love pie... we were on our way home from a backpacking trip at Chevelon Lake. Each of the four of us ordered a different small hand pie. Mine was peach - it's summer! Filling was nice, size was ok, pastry was tasty, but under cooked and rather thick. My husband had strawberry-rhubarb. His was not hot in the middle and his pastry was also thick for the scale of the pie and a bit underbaked. I think I'll try them again sometime, but can't really recommend it and my husband has no interest in a repeat. He said he likes my pies better. read more
