Very cool interior with cartoonish painting on the walls, small but neat spot. A little loud inside with lots of families. The menu has a lot of good options though I wished there were more vegetarian pizzas (though you could make your own, more creative veggie options would have been nice like a meat substitute or more creative veggies). I shared some of my partner's pizza and it was very good - chewy crust with stretchy fresh cheese. We got the potato dish too and I thought it was okay, not my favorite style of potatoes (wished they were more crispy on the outside). We got custard for dessert and the pumpkin cheesecake was delish. Though it didn't really taste/feel like custard - it had a texture closer to ice cream, didn't have that classic smooth/silkiness to it. Our server was super friendly and easy to talk to. I would go back!

First time Brunch girl at Pie Hard!!! We have been waiting to try the Brunch but everytime we would swing by they were already Sold Out... so that must mean it is that good. This place is normally open for dinner with Pizza, Calzones, cocktails and Yummy Frozen custard... But on Sunday8tbey do Brunch Only. We all decided to get something different so we could share... Everything from the Breakfast Club Pizza, Monte Cristo Calzone, and BLTTT was Excellent.... Next time we will get the Waffle Board!!! So just another reason to go back! We also indulged in some Brunch Boozy Cocktails... Bloody Mary and the Adult Milk Chocolate were hits!!! If you venture to the Illinois side hit up Pie Hard.... Tip: they open at 10am-2pm Sunday Brunch or until they sell out..so get there early.. (there was a line forming when we arrived as it's not a big place).

We enjoyed the pizza and great beer selection here on several visits - my favorite place in town for a casual dinner! We recently dropped by with a group of seven for an early weekend dinner, and staff was very helpful in accommodating us. We knew that there was a Thai food pop-up happening, but unaware that the full menu wasn't also available. In all, there were a couple usual salads, mozzarella sticks, and three pizzas from the regular menu. The Thai menu was four items - I believe the choices were salad, dumplings, noodles, and... I'm forgetting something! Anyway, they were all okay (we didn't love them) but we would've preferred the pizza menu. We were an all-ages group celebrating a birthday, and excited about ice cream. We were offered a "flight" of six samples in a muffin tin, or full servings in individual cups; we went for full servings. We each picked a flavor, and were shocked to be served tiny scoops - like a couple tablespoons - in the bottom of what seemed to be an eight-ounce cardboard dish. The teenagers each ate theirs in one bite. That was really disappointing, and I was a little embarrassed to see the tiny servings after promising everyone a real treat. Hoping for clearer communication next time! Aside from our most recent odd experience, Pie Hard has always done us well. It's a friendly, welcoming place with exceptional pizza and competent, friendly staff. We'll be back!

I stopped at Pie Hard on Saturday after work because I had been wanting to try their pizza. Waterloo is like the other end of the world to me but on a Saturday it didn't seem that far with no traffic. Pie Hard is a cute bar with a beautiful pizza oven and a case of house made custard. I ordered The Island Pizza (vodka sauce, mozzarella, candied bacon, pickled pineapple, and jalapeno). It was delicious. Puffy crust with a perfect leopard spotted char. I loved the toppings although they were a little sparse. The candied bacon was thick cut and I loved the way it went with the acid of the pineapple and the spice of the fresh jalapeno. I was too full for custard but took a scoop of Rice Krispies Treat custard home with me. It was rich and creamy and it did taste like a Rice Krispies Treat. Friendly service. I'm sure I'll be back!

Color me amazed. Who knew I'd find such a beautiful presentation of a fiber rich brunch item at a pizza pie place?! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the healthy option and major props on the layout. You've got your clientele covered, so anyone wanting to enjoy brunch has something for them on this menu. Currently unable to drink, but when I can I'll be back for their cute mimosa glasses

Their food is great, the wait time, not so much. Ordered online, went in to grab a drink while waiting and didn't get served before many others. Then people who came in 15 minutes after I did got their food and mine still hadn't been prepared. I got a simple cheese pizza and it would've been quicker to go inside and order before ordering 45 minutes earlier.

First....small local. I did that. Outstanding people that own and work here! Second...We drive 30 minutes one way to go here, passing several other pizza joints. It's that good, and that cool. Third...they have homemade custards. And a big pic of Bourdain on the wall. Whats not to like?

This was very good pizza. Just the correct size for one. The meatballs had a perfect texture for pizza. Easy to bite through and tasty

Just disappointing, nothing special, specially for the price. Probably the fifth or sixth rated pizza in Monroe county.

We loved their pizza, and yogurt! Definitely worth the price. Their pizza is big enough for 2 people!

Don't miss Hopskeller on your next visit to Waterloo. We love this place. Reliably great beer,…read morewood-fired pizzas, and worn-in cozy atmosphere. We enjoy sitting upstairs or on the back patio in nicer weather - so many options for a get-together with friends. Service at the bar and the food service counter are excellent. Staff are friendly and always have helpful suggestions. We recently came for Sunday lunch the week of Christmas, and there wasn't much of a crowd. This was great for a relaxed lunch with the kids and brother visiting from out of town. Plenty of seating! There are kid-friendly options here, with the pizza and pub snack menu. My picky daughter (not a fan of pizza) enjoys the pretzels. There is something for everyone. The salads have fresh ingredients, made-to-order. Pizzas on the menu are excellent and can also be modified or build-your-own. Pizzas and other hot appetizers come out on paper-lined pans. When ordering salads, they come in a takeout box rather than a plate or dish. You may need an additional box or plate, because the salads are packed full and you might have a mess! Utensils are plastic. There is a bit of a disconnect because the food and overall cozy vibe seem worthy of real plates and silverware ;) but the plus side is quick table turnover on the busy days or the days where everyone is out on the patio. It's nice to be able to order and pay at the food service counter. You will want to stay a while, but you'll be free to leave whenever you're ready to move on to your next stop!

So perhaps we'll visit again, however, if there weren't so many positive reviews we would never go back. Our coffee flight was probably the worst we've ever had. They were supposed to be iced but came out lukewarm and burnt tasting. We couldn't taste a difference in any of the flavors-likely because it was so burnt tasting that's all we could taste. Neither of us liked our food. My husband's pancakes were dry and he said they tasted like they had been microwaved. My healthy bowl tasted like mostly old/not fresh ingredients. The Brussel sprouts were supposed to be shaved, but were instead halved and appeared/tasted like they were from the prior day. The Parmesan cheese was also prepackaged and not freshly grated, and for the price we paid ($50+) we didn't expect to be served food low-quality food. The only picture I took was of our coffee. Our server did the bare minimum. They weren't rude, but also weren't friendly. We ran out of Cholula sauce and she grabbed one from another table with people sitting there. Overall a very poor experience. Based completely on this one experience we would never return.
