Back at Walton's again; this time to meet friends for lunch. Based on a friend recommendations I tried the Pork Fritter Sandwich with "the best fries ever" on the side. The sandwich was huge and the pork was so tender that it didn't cause any problems for my old lady dental issues. I ate the left overs cold for dinner and the meat's tenderness remained. My treat (besides the best fries ever) was a caramel apple cider float - I look forward to getting it every fall. The cider comes from a local orchard and is a great accompaniment to the delicious, creamy ice cream, caramel sauce and fresh chopped apple garnish. And those fries....they are crispy, flavorful and so delicious that it's worth it to me to drive the 20 minutes just for them. I talked with one of the Walton family and found out their secret (besides serving them piping hot) is that they fry them in beef tallow. Yummmm If you're near Smithton give this place a try. It's small with a walk-up window and outside seating. It sometimes gets quite crowded, but the staff hustles so the wait is usually not long. There is easy parking in the lot next door. They take cards, but there is a $5 minimum. PS - this huge fritter and ample portion of fries was $9; a very reasonable price. read more

Nice friendly spot to stop for ice cream or food! Lots of options to choose from and they're all delicious!

I was passing through Smithton and needed a bite to eat. I took a chance that they had a grill. There was a line at the walk-up window and the drive-thru which is always an excellent sign. The ice cream looks wonderful but I went for the mushroom and Swiss burger. It turns out the ice cream shop makes a good burger. The shop is carry-out only but there is some outdoor seating. read more

Food is great. Food made at order time. My favorite is the chocolate malt. Seating is outside only, with a walk up window. So either eat outside or drive through window.. They have picnic type tables outside and a few shade umbrellas. read more

The sandwiches, the burgers, and the ice cream is top notch. Even when they're getting a rush the staff is friendly, fast and efficient. You can go through the drive through or chill on the cute little patio area. It's worth my 30 minute drive every single time. Go check it out! read more

This place has everything you can ask for in an ice cream shop. It's small and busy but service was fast. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are huge. I recommend the banana split. Very pleased. We are not from here and it was worth the price. We do live in town so it was a convenient place to eat. If you live in town or nearby it is worth a nice drive. Wonderful staff as well. We had two Walton burgers and a cheeseburger with the works. Good crisp meat and juicy, flavorful bun and generous toppings. Fries were worth eating without any sauce, very pleased. He has 8 food allergies and wants ice cream so bad, and we haven't found a place or even a store bought vegan ice cream that he likes... but he sure does love your dole whip & Italian ice!! They still have malts. We also got 2 cheeseburgers. Also way better than any fastfood. They do make and cook to order. You are not getting food from under a heat lamp. So it might take a few minutes to make your order fresh, but well worth the couple minutes. Absolutely will return and have returned. Order is either drive up window or walk up window. Long time resident of St. Louis, long time fan of Ted Drewes. So when I moved to Illinois and began to look around, how surprised I was to find an ice cream place sitting quietly on the main drag in the small town of Smithton that features a custard even better--better by far--than that at Ted Drewes. This is like the southern custards I used to get in my youth, almost yellow with the richness of it. Their special Turtle Sundae puts the Ted Drewes Dutchman's Delight to shame, especially since the pecans are so notably fresh, like someone is sitting there cracking them to order! Polite service, decent prices, and a delicious variety of toppings and styles. They also feature food items aside from ice cream, but I cannot speak to any or them. My wife told me when she was a kid her mom used to take her here often for a nice summer treat. We are from waterloo and decided to take a short casual drive one Sunday after church and sure enough, the place is still there and as good as she remembers. Don't let the sign fool you. I promise it's there. Walton's ice cream is a great addition to the main drag. Lots of soft serve options for adults and kids alike. I had the salted caramel truffle concrete which was fantastic. My kids got basic chocolate and vanilla. A number of kids got the vanilla soft serve with rainbow flavoring added. Walton's Ice Cream and More is the perfect small town everything made with love type of place. The ice cream is so good and always tastes freshly made, the burgers are absolutely amazing the sides (lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle) are always fresh and really give off a delicious taste. I personally love their slushies but you can not go wrong with anything on their menu from food to ice cream everything is top notch. Not to mention they have dairy free ice cream so anyone can go there and have a great experience! They have patio seating or you can take it to go. Always pleased with Waltons. 10/10 read more
