While on one of our many trips to Edwardsville to hang out with our college friends, they casually recommended we try out Annie's for some sweets and delights. Next thing I knew, we were hopping in a car with our hangovers and hitting the road. Annie's, from what I remember, is like any other town's ice cream shack that is open year round. They offer your quick but yummy food options, such as: hot dogs, custard, sundaes, pie, and various other sweets. During our visit, we all snagged a few small things. Nursing some hangovers, we all gravitated towards the greasy offerings versus the cold stuff. Chili dogs were what we picked and snacked on, except for the one friend who was feeling 110%. She got some ice cream to go. The chili dog was decent but nothing to write home about. It definitely hit the spot. As for the interior, I don't remember much about it. The little that I do recall doesn't strike me as overly impressive but also not lacking. There were tables to sit at and ample room should it be busy during the summer hours. I wish I could have more to put in this blog post but since this was the only time we came here and it was after a fun night, this is all about it. Also, sadly, my friends have moved away from Edwardsville, but that doesn't mean I won't try to swing by it again on my way to St. Louis some day. If and when I do, I will try to update this post to reflect new photos and experiences.

Unfortunately, both concretes were extremely disappointing. They were bland and virtually tasteless, with none of the rich flavor we expected. When I was younger, going to Bobby's was a real treat. The quality and flavor made it worth the visit. Sadly, that wasn't our experience tonight. The product simply didn't live up to the reputation I remember. I rarely leave reviews, but I was genuinely disappointed. I can't help but wonder if others have noticed a decline in quality as well. For us, there are better alternatives available now--even Dairy Queen offers a more satisfying frozen treat experience. I truly wanted to enjoy this visit, but based on tonight's experience, we won't be returning.

Mr Twist has been a ice cream favorite in Granite City for decades and it has always been owned by the same family. If I remember correctly, I believe they are on the third generation of ownership. That's some serious family dedication to satisfying the sweet tooth's of G-City. If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of soft serve orange sherbet. So when I heard that is what Mr Twist is known for, I knew I had to go try theirs. While I was ordering, the two employees working shared with me that they now have a Raspberry Sherbet, too. They offered to twist the two sherbets, but I opted to do vanilla. My cone was delicious, I enjoyed the blend of vanilla and orange. There's something about that Creamsicle flavor that is so refreshing to me. However, after being given a sample of the new Raspberry Sherbet, I wish I would have blended the two sherbets. The Raspberry had a nice tang to it and next to strawberries, raspberries are my second favorite berry. The service was mom-pop friendly and you could see and feel their excitement to be in the passport. Instead of using the Route 66 stamp provided to all participants, they have their own design. If that isn't cool enough, when you get your stamp, they ask you to sign their Route 66 Guest Book. If you're on Route 66 traveling or live in the Riverbend Area, you need to go have some ice cream at Mr. Twist.

Keep your eye out for Imo's pizzeria because it's connected to it. The shop is spacious enough for a good size crowd. There is also a very large patio for outdoor seating and mingling. I would have figured there would be speakers posted for some light music. Patrons can enjoy the music of nature. STAFF: As soon as we entered, we were casually greeted by two ice cream shop workers. The cashier was able to easily answer my questions about the uniquely named flavors i.e. Bride of Frankenstein and Superman. It took only a few minutes for our ice cream to be served. FOOD: The wife and I ordered two small cups. She did the lemon bite with waffle pieces and strawberries. A perfect combination. The strawberries aren't loose and chopped, but a jelly. That's a nice change of pace! I got the trusted strawberry with M&Ms. Next time I'll go without those and do more strawberries! Nonetheless, it still was good eating.
