A friend who lives in Waterloo had mention Pie Hard so a while back I headed over. Sadly they were booked up and out of dough before I arrived! This time we called ahead to get orders in to make sure the rush didn't beat us to dinner and boy was it worth it. Sam working the front of house provided great service, friendly with checking and had some good tips on what to order after asking some questions. We order some cheese bread to enjoy as I considered what I wanted. Dipping sauces too, everything is made in-house and the ranch and vodka sauces were awesome. The pizzas are 10 inch, individual sized which meant we could make separate, different choices. I went with the Queen with vodka sauce adding pepperoni and sausage, it was yummy. A typical kind of pizza for sure, but that's a really good gauge on dough, sauce, etc cause I have has lots of pizzas with similar listed ingredients. And this had really good flavor! A few spots where air bubbles created very thin areas were cooked more than looks great but the bit of oaky flavor was fantastic. My friend Sean got something really unique, something he had thought about before when he was there but he regularly orders other things. We were both intrigued by the idea of a loaded potato pizza and I am so glad that he went for it and shared! I seriously will be craving it. So unique with the garlic herd cream sauce, and it was a good call to add sausage. They have a full bar, make frozen custard, and more. The interior is small, with some cool murals on the walls. I hadn't been to downtown Waterloo but it's nice. There were some fun murals but in an old downtown area with lots of shops nearby and murals to check out too. read more

My friends and I love Pie Hard. Whether it's a pop up, brunch, or regular menu we love it just the same! All of their food is thoughtfully made with flavors that pair perfectly together. My favorite thing at Pie Hard is the Farmhouse Salad - absolutely amazing! It pairs perfectly with the Island pizza. The drinks are also out of this world delicious, as well. During one of the pop ups I had a spicy pineapple cocktail that I would solely go back for. I truly cannot recommend Pie Hard enough. Very cool interior with cartoonish painting on the walls, small but neat spot. A little loud inside with lots of families. The menu has a lot of good options though I wished there were more vegetarian pizzas (though you could make your own, more creative veggie options would have been nice like a meat substitute or more creative veggies). I shared some of my partner's pizza and it was very good - chewy crust with stretchy fresh cheese. We got the potato dish too and I thought it was okay, not my favorite style of potatoes (wished they were more crispy on the outside). We got custard for dessert and the pumpkin cheesecake was delish. Though it didn't really taste/feel like custard - it had a texture closer to ice cream, didn't have that classic smooth/silkiness to it. Our server was super friendly and easy to talk to. First time Brunch girl at Pie Hard!!! We have been waiting to try the Brunch but everytime we would swing by they were already Sold Out... so that must mean it is that good. This place is normally open for dinner with Pizza, Calzones, cocktails and Yummy Frozen custard... But on Sunday8tbey do Brunch Only. We all decided to get something different so we could share... We went there for the first time and the pizza was very good, i had the Buffy Summers which was delicious and my husband had the Mc Clane which was good. I do have one complaint I am so sorry but I have to mention it....we sat right next to the oven and I noticed that none of the workers making the pizzas were wearing gloves. We enjoyed the pizza and great beer selection here on several visits - my favorite place in town for a casual dinner! We recently dropped by with a group of seven for an early weekend dinner, and staff was very helpful in accommodating us. We knew that there was a Thai food pop-up happening, but unaware that the full menu wasn't also available. In all, there were a couple usual salads, mozzarella sticks, and three pizzas from the regular menu. The Thai menu was four items - I believe the choices were salad, dumplings, noodles, and... I'm forgetting something! Anyway, they were all okay (we didn't love them) but we would've preferred the pizza menu. We were an all-ages group celebrating a birthday, and excited about ice cream. We were offered a "flight" of six samples in a muffin tin, or full servings in individual cups; we went for full servings. We each picked a flavor, and were shocked to be served tiny scoops - like a couple tablespoons - in the bottom of what seemed to be an eight-ounce cardboard dish. The teenagers each ate theirs in one bite. That was really disappointing, and I was a little embarrassed to see the tiny servings after promising everyone a real treat. Hoping for clearer communication next time! Aside from our most recent odd experience, Pie Hard has always done us well. I stopped at Pie Hard on Saturday after work because I had been wanting to try their pizza. Waterloo is like the other end of the world to me but on a Saturday it didn't seem that far with no traffic. Pie Hard is a cute bar with a beautiful pizza oven and a case of house made custard. I ordered The Island Pizza (vodka sauce, mozzarella, candied bacon, pickled pineapple, and jalapeno). It was delicious. Puffy crust with a perfect leopard spotted char. I loved the toppings although they were a little sparse. The candied bacon was thick cut and I loved the way it went with the acid of the pineapple and the spice of the fresh jalapeno. I was too full for custard but took a scoop of Rice Krispies Treat custard home with me. It was rich and creamy and it did taste like a Rice Krispies Treat. Friendly service. This place is a gem. Probably one of the best pizza crust I have ever eaten. This small, hip family run pizza joint has killer pizzas being churned out of one brick oven. They are busy, but have a very efficient team to get your food and drink as quickly as possible without you feeling rushed or then sacrificing their quality. I believe they only make a certain amount of pizza dough for the day. So if you are wanting to wait until close to closing time, there might be a good chance they have run out of dough (and really, that's not a bad thing). They also have other items on the menu that are equally delicious. There might be wait, but again I'm glad to see them busy and to go is always an option. We ordered the smoke Caesar which has just a hint of smoke that you might get from a smoked fish dip. Not over powering, but adds a pleasant layer to the salad dressing. All the pizzas are 10" cut into quarters. The pizza we got was the Island. The house picked pineapple added sweet and tart, the house pickled jalapeños added some heat and the jalapeño flavor, the thick cut back added some bite and saltiness, the vodka sauce supported with a creamy texture, and the crust had that perfect char on the edge and has such a good chew. Now the drinks. Blue Negroni was sweet from the blueberry and vermouth, slight bitter from the Campari, and rounded off with some herbal notes from the gin. The Bananas Foster is a total dessert cocktail. You get the bourbon and real banana flavor up front followed by the chocolate and Kahula rounding off the drink and giving it that dessert feel. Then the Pineapple Pumpkin Patch was a conundrum. The flavors don't sound like they go together but they do. Ok so not only am I this company's first review I was actually their first order ever. They have been planning to open for a couple weeks now, but with COVID 19 everything was put on hold. They finally opened for take out and we couldn't wait to give them a shot. They have a small menu but everything was executed perfectly. It is Neapolitan style pizza made with fresh ingredients and herbs. We went with the queen and the Mcclane. They were both so good. The wood fired oven put a very nice char on the crust giving it that extra bite. We also ordered a Smoked Caesar salad. We were absolutely blown away by the salad. The dressing was fantastic very flavorful and the smokiness gave it that extra flair! This will quickly become my go to pizza shop. We grabbed 3 pizzas to go: Rad Sausage, the queen and jimmy pesto. Honestly we were not impressed. Some people in group really liked the crust but not the toppings. Let's just say I won't be rushing back there. I will say that everyone working there was super nice esp the gal in the front. My family had to get out of the house so we drove a half hour to try Pie Hard Pizza. I always heard good things when they had a food truck and we've been wanting to try the new brick and mortar - it was worth the trip! They are currently taking call ahead orders and they have a walk up window for pickup. We were going to eat at a park bench, but it started raining so we ate in the car. The kids had fun and it was a delicious meal! My kids are picky, even when it comes to pizza, but they loved our McClane and our build your own Pepperoni. Try the Street Corn, I was in the mood for something different and it was very good. My wife and I liked the smoked Caesar salad as well. Don't waste your time. Not customer friendly at all. They will limit what you can order so there will be product available for someone who comes in later after you. Was told my son couldn't order what he wanted because there was a shortage and a limit of one per order. Not that they were out of it but wanted it available for customer who came later. My son and I wanted the same thing. A freaking shrimp roll. Piece of bread with like 5 shrimp on it. I was told he could order something else or I could cut mine in half. What a joke!! They also messed up my order. We waited a long time for our order which honestly wasn't that good anyway.
