I came in hungry and left satisfied! The staff was so nice as soon as I walked in. I wanted ramen and let the owner recommend his favorite. He recommended the short rib ramen and said the broth was very rich and the meat was very tender. That broth was fireeee. It was love at first bite. He wasn't lying! I even sent a snap to a friend and she felt bad for me. the flavor was also immensely salty. it came with spicy mayo (which was actually spicy! that never happens!) and a tonkatsu sauce, but honestly I was desperately in need of something sweet like ketchup or honey. Wife and I ate a total of 3 pieces. Our waiter was very apologetic and asked multiple times if we wanted it re-done or if we wanted something else, but we were already pretty content by the time we could air our complaints. The ramen featured a rich, deeply satisfying broth, while the chicken katsu was perfectly crisp on the outside and tender within. If you want a "hotter " ramen - the have an add on for a buck. Service was warm and attentive, reflecting the pride that often comes with a family-owned business. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, allowing the quality of the food to take center stage. Bristol is fortunate to have Sakuratani. Strong Japanese dining options can be hard to find outside larger cities, and for a restaurant only a year old, they seem to be doing many things right. The highlight of the dish for me is how they cooked everything so perfectly; I've definitely encountered malatang spots that either overcook or undercook the noodles/veggies but I've never had the ingredients cooked this well. The service was also so fast and they were super nice!! I came here on a Friday night and it was completely empty, which makes sense because it's summer and this spot is located in a college town. But I would 1000% come to the Brown University area JUST for this. The store is also super pretty and it even has a photobooth! I really hope that this place gets the love that it deserves; it's a small business that deserves so much more hype.
