I find it difficult to believe that this store is still open. Every time I stop here it is extremely understaffed and the line of customers stretches all the way back to the produce section. Yesterday, I made the mistake of making an alcohol selection that is now behind locked glass doors. I waited nearly twenty minutes until a fellow customer made the trek to customer service to ask for assistance; their red box where you push a button to summon an associate is useless as they simply ignore it. For what it's worth, I seldom experience these long waits at the other Pick N Save or Metro Market stores, but this place is simply a joke. read more

Since the remodel to a Pick 'n Save, this place has been given new renovations and is much nicer! The organization of this grocery store is similar to other Pick 'n Save in the area with different sections around the edges of the store. When you enter in, there's the hot foods and deli section, and then the meats are located in the refrigerated section along the back and then the rest of diary and other products along the side. In the middle of store are different aisles for non-perishable food, and there's a decent variety available throughout. There are checkout lanes near the front of the store, although when we went there were only two lanes open. I couldn't recall if they had a self checkout or not. Regardless, the lines didn't take very long. Just an FYI, keep an eye on the sale items, sometimes it it's a $1.50 off coupon as opposed to the cost of the product for $1.50, so don't let that trip you up. Otherwise, it seems like a decent grocery store to shop at, and it located close enough enough to downtown but far enough to have ample space for parking. read more

My husband bought 2 packs of their deli chicken, brought it home and he got sick almost immediately, my grandson also did not feel well after eating it. After my husband finished vomiting he went back to the store to let them know. When he came back ( with the chicken) he said he got no satisfaction from them, no concern, no apology, no refund. We put the chicken in the refrigerator and he will call the health department when they open. I believe it was probably contaminated and he will ask them to test it. He is not the kind of person to return anything EVER, and he shops there a lot. Very disappointing that they did not take him seriously. I read more

Sometimes a person just wants to knock out the grocery list without walking back and forth through a warehouse. This store is set up so that everything is exactly where one would expect it to be--not spread across three end caps and special sections. I'm sorry in advance for this rant: I hate stores that turn my weekly shopping trip into an annoying scavenger hunt, as I'd rather save my time for more productive or enjoyable things. This store is different and better. It has a smaller selection, but it is plenty for me. Fruits, veggies, & meats always look good. Staff is hardworking and very aware when customers need help. Whenever more than two people are in line at the checkout, employees and managers almost run to the front to open more registers. The managers appear to set a good example which the other employees follow. Also, it seems that the managers run the store to be as convenient as possible for customers. It feels different from the shiny, ritzy grocers that hire expensive consultants to trick customers into buying extra stuff. This Pick n Save reminds me of the typical grocery store from my childhood in the 80's--friendly and efficient, and not warehouse-y. While not the most modern store, this is definitely the "good" grocery store in south Madison. read more

Location is the biggest plus for this grocery. The shop is close to downtown but doesn't have downtown prices like Fresh Market. There is also a bus stop right in front! There is a little bit of everything here. The store seems to have seen better days but I've always noticed it was pretty clean in side. Only downside is the service can be a bit unorganized. Why does everyone have to hate on this Pick n' Save so much?! Oy. True, there are nicer grocery stores in town with bigger selections and brighter lights and fancier aisle displays. However, if you need to pop in for a staple item, they've got you covered here. And it's a bit of a drive to another grocery store so we better keep this one around! The staff here has always been quite helpful to me, from the cashiers to the folks stocking. They have expanded their organic produce selection in recent years, which is great. They now have discounted produce available too - if you're not afraid of a pepper that's seen a better day, check out the red mesh bags for some good deals! Fun Fact: The City is in the midst of looking at proposals for the vacant land south of this store and the plans for that lot include the land on which Pick n' Save sits. So whether Pick n' Save will stick around in this location as things are demolished/rebuilt remains to be seen... you may regret complaining about Pick n' Save when we end up with no grocery store here or a boutique grocery store instead! read more

This is, perhaps, the worst grocery store I've ever been to. It's the closest store to my work so I have to go there but, if I can possibly avoid it, I will. They never have more than one cashier working at a time. I can't recall a time when I have gone in and there hasn't been a huge line waiting for the one register. People with one or two items waiting behind people with huge carts full of items because there is no express. Never anyone at customer service. I feel bad for the one cashier who is always there. It's confusing because there is always some employee pushing a broom around or standing around while this is happening. Much of the time their hot bar is empty. Often out of things in produce. Overall run down. Being in there makes me sad. read more

After all name change from Copps to Pick n Save, this store is still branded Copps. I can only assume it hasn't yet made the name change due to the sad state of affairs inside. The store feels outdated, produce variety is lacking (and of poor quality), and the overall "feel" of the grocery store is like a virtual punch in the gut. Yes, I know the neighborhoods around the store may be not be the wealthiest but that doesn't mean there can't be investment made to improve the shopping experience. read more

The happy: standard selection of regular grocery, decent liquor selection. They sell flowers. It's tied for closest store to downtown. The sad: deli, bakery, produce all suck. A big reason I like Copps is that I like their prolific house brand. Roundy's brand cereal, cookies, detergent, etc. etc. are all good values for my budget. Overall selection is fine -- better than Super Target, Woodmans, Walmart, not as good as a boutique grocery like Whole Food$ or Metcalfe$ The produce department comes through 90% of the time. They failed on fresh basil and the lettuce is cheaper at a couple places I know but pretty much every other produce need is met. They have a lot of brand name seafood but it's from China, so we go to Metcalfes. Wisconsin staples like brats, cheese, beer, and football food are WELL represented. The decor is less theme-park than a new store would be. If you require track lighting and an exposed loft-wall, or a water feature in the tuna aisle, you may have to shop elsewhere. The Park Street Copps is bright, clean, organized, and looks like what I expect a grocery store to look like. The staff esprit de corps is pretty high, maybe because their turnover is low. It's the least busy Copps in the chain but still fully staffed, which means that when you ask for help the clerk will cross the store and show you what you're looking for. You get the red carpet treatment, all just to seek a particular New Glarus beer flavor (they had it) or RIT fabric dye (they didn't have it). read more

"Disposable Relic" When supermarkets get old and pass years without renovation, they become Copps. Unfortunately, this is the closest grocer to my home. It reeks of stale indifference. Nothing seems to have changed in thirty years except its deterioration. The parking lot is filled with booze-swilling and smoke-chugging vagrants and the interior is discolored with years of decay. Pretty much everything is stocked. They have most brands and a decent variety of food, but your paying extremely high prices for their products. There are usually only a couple of cashiers available; each of which are slow and waiting for life to deal them another card. Deli clerks dejectedly lord over rotting food. Stock clerks seem to stoned to give damn. Some things are fine to grab in a pinch and exterior reveals what's on the inside, but a trip elsewhere for your groceries is usually on my list. read more

I come here from time to time because it's close to home and when I need the basics. In my diet I do stick to the basics nowadays. I don't cook huge meals like I used to. Even so, I don't buy my chicken nor fish here. It's gross. But the beef and bacon is fine. Produce is ok except lemons are too expensive. A dollar for one lemon? But the limes are a quarter each. Yay for making limeade instead of lemonade. The store is really small compared to the other Copp stores. So that means much smaller selection. But I can get my organic Silk soymilks for $3, for the big carton! Yay. But not going to get exotic items and better brands of foods here. I've seen cashiers come and go fast. And it pleases me to note the very rude ones don't stick around long. read more

I'm not really a fan of this PnS, compared to the others. The inventory is smaller (but hey, they're working with a smaller building so can't really fault them here) The parking lot and building are more run-down than other PnS's, but the big kicker is that there appear to be a noticeably higher amount of "lackluster" attitudes among the employees here and fewer "great" attitudes. I'd rather stop here than go into a gas station if I need to pick something up last minute, but I try to get to another store to do weekly planned shopping runs if I can. read more

I have been writing reviews for this particular Copps for 3 years now. At first they were awful, terrible customer service, too few checkers, couldn't find anyone to help but I think someone has been reading my reviews. The store is brighter, the meat fresher, the fruit more reasonably priced and the store help is friendly, helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable. I used to compare them the HyVee who at the time had excellent customer service. Well HyVee has gone downhill and Copps has really improved. It helps to write reviews someone is listening. read more

Well, we approached the entrance, only to see a "mom" sitting in her car combing her hair in blithe acceptance of the fact her young (6-7 year old) son was - yes, you're reading it right - dropping trou and peeing on the sidewalk immediately adjacent to the Copp's front picture window, in full view of the entire world. From the sneer and scowl set to her face, saying something would have invited an (un)righteous indignation by an ignorant woman apparently egregiously put upon by the world's demands, such as, uh, caring for your spawn. About the timbre of the clientele and store, from what I can tell. Call me a snob.....but I prefer to keep toilets and toiletries separated by at least a partition. No thanks. read more

This is the worst grocery store I have ever been to. No fresh meat or fish. Produce is bad quality. Cashiers take forever. I'm not kidding that this is the actual worst grocery store I've ever been to. The only reason I go there is because it is close to home, but it's honestly brutal. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. LOVE this Pick'nSave! I see some of the reviews that say it is a smaller store, not as good on selections, etc. I say to that,"Of course, it's a smaller store. It is originally a Kohls grocery store, and stores a long time ago were smaller. I want to know why someone would shop here knowing it's a smaller store when there are bigger stores close by. This store rocks! I can get in and out fast (because it is smaller), the selection of items works for us, prices are great, nice layout of the store and it is always clean AND wonderful employees! This PnS is just fine, if older and smaller than many other grocery stores in the area; it's got all the basics covered. I can always run to Fraboni's or the Asian stores for more global stuff. They have a respectable selection of organics. The produce is decent. Good promotions and sales. I have found staff uniformly courteous and helpful. And the south side is a grocery store desert, so rather than compare this to Whole Foods, perhaps it should be compared to other grocery stores in Central/South Madison... read more

The newest review that I read today was written in February 2011. That is almost two years ago. The Copps reviewed by all is not the Copps on Park Street where I shop today. It is the closest grocery store so I shop there more frequently than anywhere else. If the prices are occasionally higher for some items than other places, the convenience of location makes up for that. The personnel are always pleasant and helpful. (During a recent shopping event, while looking at the store directory 2 different times, I was asked by 2 different employes if I wanted help finding something.) TWICE in one visit! When I expressed gratitude, the answer was, "That's what I am supposed to do." My only disappointment is: Because the store is smaller than many, it is not able to present a larger variety of product. So then I go to Monona. read more

First time in this store. I live in the Milwaukee area and had ordered three dozen cupcakes for a baby shower in Fitchburg. I picked them up at 8:00 am as promised. I thought I was getting white cupcakes with pink frosting on them but when I saw them I was pleasantly surprised. Each one was decorated so beautifully! Flowers, beads, and baby signs were put on top of the cupcakes. You could tell someone took great care in making these. They were placed in individual compartments so I could travel with them without ruining the decorations. And besides the cupcakes looking fabulous, they tasted great! They were very moist with a good flavor. And the price was very affordable! A+ for this bakery! You exceeded my expectations! read more
