24/7 but not a lot going on here. You will be happier going to the majority of grocery stores in Madison, even acknowledging that the prices at Cap Center are higher due to the downtown location. Pros: private lot (although very small, it can get full), 24/7 service. Cons: Price, atmosphere, lack of good prepared foods. Price for 1 roll Pillsbury cookie dough ,1 box crackers, 1 guacamole (Simply Guacamole--packaged), and 1 package oreos $11.75. If you live immediately next to location and don't have a car or don't want to drive, it'll get the job done, although without a butcher department, deli, or a significant amount of hot foods. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

I love going to capitol market, if you are in the downtown area and need an ingredient capitol market is the place to go. The have ready to eat warm/cold food available for lunch which is perfect if you need something quick and easy. They have fruits and veggies but they are more expensive than usual and you have to eat them right away or they will go bad quickly. They also have a large selection of alcohol. Definitely visit if you get the chance.

Terrible quality, food was moldy and consistently more expensive than other stores in town. Do not go!

A good grocery store for people living near downtown in terms of prices. But sometimes they run out of a basic item like bread!

Surprisingly, they carry a wide selection of international products. I was delighted to find these viral ice creams at the West Side location (there's also one on the East Side of Madison). These ice creams became popular about 1.5-2 years ago. I first tried lemon in LA late 2024 and then mango in Houston earlier this year, but this is the first time I've seen them in an American grocery store. While they're also available at Global Market (an Asian grocery store on the East Side), Woodman's price is unbeatable--just $9 for a box of three, compared to around $12 plus tax in LA. The outer shell is a crunchy white chocolate coating, while the inside is fruity ice cream flavors like mango, peach, lemon, and apricot (no actual fruits). They also offer unique flavors such as durian, grape, and tangerine. It's great to see Woodman's carrying these, hopefully more people will get to try them!

The local cheese selection did not disappoint. We also learned you must pay for your groceries to go into the liquor store and vice versa. I had the prosciutto sandwich and my SO had the pastrami and both had nothing but good things to say as we ate. The prosciutto sandwich had balsamic that had just started to soak into the otherwise crunchy bread, with these big chunks of mozzarella and the freshest tomatoes and greens. Alimentari itself is this awesome little deli/grocer with both bagged pastas AND FRESH PASTA/antipasti available to buy, as well as all sorts of goods, breads, coffees, chocolates, beverages and a whole wine selection. Beware that there is no seating inside but definitely do not let this dissuade you from visiting.

I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, and the gentleman taking my order pointed to a random piece of focaccia on display on the counter and asked if I'd like my sandwich on that. I don't know what kind of bread if normally comes on, but I have since read about the thicker/crustier bread on some reviews. Gosh am I glad he offered the focaccia. The bread made this sandwich, it was sooo good. It was light and fluffy despite being substantial in size, and had this delightful little crunch from the sea salt on it (not in a salty sense, just in a wonderful texture sense). There was a ton of turkey on it and it was a yummy smoked flavor. The other fixings were standard but complimented the sandwich very well. The sandwich was tasty and filling. All this said, because I paid $16 for my sandwich, I wouldn't make it a regular occurrence, maybe a special treat. But if it's on regular bread, particularly a harder crust bread, I think I'd skip it entirely. You do get a lot of sandwich for your money, but I just can't justify it. So, overall, this is definitely worth trying and deciding for yourself - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

But the items they do have are usually much cheaper and of the same or better quality. I began going to Aldi just for their wine selection (which is also really good!) and then began grocery shopping there on a regular basis. It's my go-to store now. I've tried some of their beers and they've been OK. Like other Aldi stores, this one has been recently renovated so it's much nicer and better organized. For newcomers, it's important to remember to bring a quarter for the shopping cart and tote bags since they don't bag for you at checkout (you can also buy recycled or plastic bags there). And if Aldi doesn't have everything on your list, there's a HyVee conveniently located next door.

The selections there isn't impressive but after a while, you will get used to going there and you won't need other big grocery stores anymore. We go to Aldi three out of four times. I love the fact that every week is different in aldi. They have special sales run each week and you will never know what you find there. If you still aren't an Aldi fan, give it a few weeks, after seeing the difference in your receipt, you will start to like it just like I did. :-) Happy saving!

I made the mistake of visiting on a Sunday around noon, and it was chaos. The underground parking garage holds maybe 20 cars, and the line to get in stretched onto the street. I ended up parking on the street in the neighborhood two blocks away, which wasn't terrible, but once inside, it was a different story. Every register line had 20-30 people, stretching all the way to the back of the store. Overall, Trader Joe's offers great prices and unique finds, but unless you enjoy battling crowds, I'd recommend going on a weekday.
