One of my fav breakfast spots (and really the only) that I went to when I lived in Madison. I still have dreams about the raspberry and lemon scones. Menu isn't your typical breakfast that you find, though they do have a basic eggs, hash-brown, and protein w/ toast option. Chai tea latte was always good, however, very very hot. Sometimes too hot to enjoy with breakfast so I'd recommend asking for them to not make it with scalding hot water. If you want to get the scones, make sure you get there early before all the good ones run out. Service here was meh. Typical order food at the register and find your own place to sit. No personalism with the staff at the register really. Again, make sure you get here early as sometimes later in the morning or afternoon you'll have to wait for seating. This goes for parking. This was my first meal in Madison and it did not disappoint! There were so many delicious options on the menu and in the pastry case, but I went with the veggie frittata special and split a blackberry scone with my friend. The scone was perfectly moist and had whole blackberries inside, with a delicious sweet glaze on top! This may have been the best scone I ever had and I wish I lived close so I could try more flavors! The meal was delicious as well, and I loved that they had fresh jams to use on the toast. I also had a hot mocha latte which was absolutely delicious, and I'm picky with hot coffee! The service was very quick and the inside is adorable, with a very homey vibe. My fiancé really wanted a waffles so we ended up here on Sunday morning! The food was delicious. My eggs were perfectly cooked and the hashbrowns were nice and crispy. He loved the waffle with all the toppings. The gal taking orders was very personable and answered our questions honestly. I stopped by on a Saturday morning for breakfast. One pays in the counter, gets a buzzer and finds a seat. I got a seat right away. My buzzer didn't work. Not sure if they forgot to buzz or the buzzer itself is faulty. I waited for about half and hour and checked about the situation. My food was sitting in the counter window all that time. So finally I was asked to take the cold food and eat. Then came the next problem. No forks. They are still washing. I waited for a while and got the forks. By then the problem shifted to no knives. Finally I collected the knives after a while. Granola with berries and banana was good. My other items were corned beef hash and taco omelette. Both were cold to appreciate the taste. I think taco omelette was better. Chai latte was fine. Overall, I found food ok. But this place is very disorganized. read more

Lazy Jane's is such a staple on Willy Street! It's very unique and eclectic and a fun casual spot. You order at the counter and they call out your order when it's ready. I love how unique the decor is. It is overstimulating and I love looking at all of the interesting decorations. I stuck with a simple breakfast, and was satisfied with my decision. I'm sorry, but no. Nobody told me I had to season my own food. Even multiple trips to the condiment station couldn't save this food. Ordered the seitan hash, since I am vegetarian and the reviews highly recommend it. Scrambled eggs came unseasoned, toast was dry (menu said it was buttered unless you ordered it vegan). Seitan hash was inedible. They don't use the softer seitan; this was rubbery fake meat product. It smelled like dog food. I took a couple bites of everything and tossed it in one of the bus bins for disposal. Gross. And the person at the register was not friendly. PS- I want my tip back. read more

I'm in Madison for a wedding and staying at an Airbnb in the seemingly very nice Marquette neighborhood. I searched for places to go for breakfast my first morning and this is the one my brother ended up suggesting this place. It's a fun location with a lot of locally owned shops nearby. The decor is very country hipster. They have a nice amount of pastries lined up where you order it's really nice. Just before I ordered I guy yelled that it was a 30 minute wait from the time you ordered till you got your food. That's not horrible but for a couple slices of French toast that wait seems excessive no matter how busy you are. Fortunately you get your pastries and drinks at the counter. I ordered an earl grey tea, almond croissant, and their Texas French toast special. After we ordered we then had to find a seat every table was full but eventually my party was able to snag a table that others were leaving. The almond croissant was very nice, maybe a bit dense and a hair on the sweeter side but ultimately satisfying. When my French toast arrived it looked appetizing and tasted good but failed to truly impress me. I tasted like somewhat standard up market breakfast fair that couple with what is essentially just counter service and a long-ish wait makes me hesitant to want to go back even if I enjoyed my trip. read more

Dang what a cute place!! Lots of paintings of vintage gals adorning the walls. Kooky colors and mismatched furniture. Truly screams Willy St. we came in for lunch, and it was super solid. Got a grilled cheese and tomato soup- can't go wrong there. I got a Turkey sando also great. Love the uniqueness of this spot. The location is super cool and has a different ambiance depending on which way you enter! The menu is interesting and might take some time for you to decide with all the options (it's ok there's usually a brief wait so this fills the time perfectly). There's glass behind the cooking counter where you can watch the cooking staff prep your plates (kitchen is not as visible but you can still see a little). Food was precisely what was ordered and they have small stations for water, marmalades, jams and other condiments. I personally like the vibe self serve areas give. The decor is interesting and some of the books they have on display are classics and probably worth a lot of $$$. We definitely will return to this gem again! read more

Visited Lazy Janes for brunch last Saturday with my girlfriend. The venue was very unique as the restaurant reminded me of a historic house. The decor and furniture had a type of controlled chaos look and looked very creative. We initially got the blackberry scone and it was absolutely delicious. This is honestly my go to breakfast place on the isthmus. Food: Lots of freshly baked goods -- highly recommend any of their scones. They have a board of specials every day. Any choice is a good choice. Coffee is also great. You get one refill with your purchase -- just go back up to the counter. Love their hazelnut coffee. I love love love their hashbrowns. I always go for a special because you can go anytime for their regular menu items. Self-Serve: They will announce your name when your order is ready and you pick it up from their food counter. Lots of different condiments and spreads too. Water is on the opposite wall. Also, clean up your own table afterwards! Seating: there is seating upstairs too. I'll say that in general I agree with most of the reviews here. Fun place to eat, nice ambience, generally good food if a little on the high price side. When I went in I did not realize there was no wait staff. When we gave our order and the cashier then swung the screen to me with the suggested tip (which I think is tacky) I still did not realize there was no wait staff. Asking for a tip, especially at amounts that at least imply your helping pay the wait staff, when in fact you're delivering your own food is at best tacky. In addition to serving myself I get to bus my table too. That's fine. I do it at McDonald's, et al too. I am not expected to leave a tip either. Adding insult to injury I'm a little bit older guy (and yea I'll own maybe being a little curmudgeonly). I have balance issues. Carrying food upstairs when you have to hold a banister is a little bit of a challenge. Fortunately we found a table downstairs. Of course if they had a wait staff that matched the tip I'd not have to carry it up the stairs. read more

The morning bun was a bit hard to eat, it was not easy to chew and really was just a glorified cinnamon roll. I think it would've tasted great warm and soft though! We were traveling through Madison and needed a breakfast stop that would satisfy adults and kids. This was the place. The positive attitudes of the staff helped make the stay even better. I had the monthly special of a veggie scramble. It was very fresh and tasty. I was given multiple different options for sides. For my kids (6-11) they had the Belgium waffles (the two littles split) and French toast. All kids were happy with the food. There was upstairs seating as well as downstairs. Even though my kids weren't exactly quiet, the tables were spread out to where they weren't disturbing others trying to have a nice breakfast. Such a cute and homey breakfast spot! It is an older home converted restaurant and has all the breakfast favorites. One of those places where the mugs and chairs don't match but adds to the character of the place. The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly! I have been going to Lazy Jane's since sometime in the early 2000's. When I am in Madison I go there for brunch every weekend and I have at times gone both days! It can be very busy on weekends but I have been happy to wait. It's an old 2 story house with part of the ceiling/Floor removed to open up the interior. A mix of table sizes scattered around both floors and a few tables outside including a small greenhouse which I like. Good food, veggie/vegan options. You order from the line that starts inside the front door, take a buzzer and find a seat. Sometimes when you hit a peak busy time you will have to wait for a seat. Usually by the time your buzzer goes off a table will open up. It is my favorite brunch spot and I look forward to going every week! read more

Lazy Janes has the best scones! They taste as amazing as they look (I mean have you ever seen such beautiful scones??), almost like a fruity shortbread cookie with glaze on top. Super good, can make the worst day the best day! There's really no point in going anywhere else for scones, you'd just be disappointed. The food here is also really good-- for example the vegetarian biscuits and gravy! It's not pictured because I was so hungry and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. It's so unique with a southern twist on it with the peppers. Totally makes you forget that there's no sausage. Everything here is very good quality. I'd give it more stars if I could. read more
