I have worked in the Hayward Business Park for over 20 years, and this place was here when I started! Back then, there were only a few places to get food and Pick-A-Deli's prices were high! I think I paid close to $10 for a tuna sandwich and a bottle of milk. That experience taught me a lesson, always pack a lunch. Now, those prices are reasonable. Because now they have competition from a 7-11, a Sushi place, a Pizza place, roast chicken, Subway, and a Starbucks. But what was true 20 yrs ago, is still true today.....Pick-A-Deli is a convenient place to grab a sandwich and drink if you don't want to drive somewhere and wait. The service here is great and you can feel the love that they put into preparing your food. I've met the owners a couple of times and I can honestly say that they are some of the nicest people that you'll ever meet. They always ask how I'm doing. Favorite Deli Ever! Their hand crafted sandwiches are all made so delicately and generously. I've been coming here for the last 2 years now and it's a bit of a drive for me but I would always make time for it because it's so worth it! Great place. I have been going for quite a few years and today I checked out their new place. They moved about 4 minutes from where they used to be and this place is a lot bigger. It's very clean looking and there is a lot more parking than their previous place. Everyone that works here is always super nice. It makes me happy to support their business. I love their tuna sandwiches. I have had the turkey as well and they are also great. Sandwiches come with 2 olives and a pickle. If you are on a diet and looking for somewhere nearby to eat healthy, Pick-A-Deli has an awesome salad bar. It has a lot of variety of vegetables and other "salady" ingredients and they offer small or large containers to make your own salad. I think the small is plenty big and when I got it I was shocked that it was under $3. It was 2 something. I can't remember exactly how much. You can't beat that price to get a salad full of veggies and beans! My friend at work wanted to go check this place out b/c a girl who works with us came back with this massive salad that she was able to make herself and it was only down the street from our office. I'm always up for anything and trying new places so we went with some other friends at work to try it. We almost passed it up b/c the driveway was kinda inconspicuous and small. We walked in with loads of smile and friendly greetings. The salad bar is definitely something to write about! They don't keep much out b/c they want to insure that everything is fresh so we asked for a few more items to be replenished and they did it with no problems. I liked that a lot. I love making my own salad. The ladies totally upsold me when they asked if I wanted grilled chicken for the salad so I said, sure! Keep in mind, they charge $2 extra for that, which they didn't disclose, but it wasn't a bad deal at all. It was 2 chicken breasts cut in slices and definitely added to my salad making it more exciting to eat. Another gal got a salad with me and the other two got sandwiches, which looked yummy, as well. I like that they are really nice and while we were eating, they came by to make sure everything was ok and we were doing fine. They also keep a really clean restaurant. I have been HAPPY every time. I love sprouts on my sandwich and I find it is hard to find a place that has them or does not charge you an arm and leg for "additional" items. I think they are reasonably priced. The employees seem very happy and eager to please. Sure the place looks pretty run down and I do not know if I would try anything but the sandwiches but it is a perfect quick lunch spot. read more

I saw this little sign that said "Pick-A-Deli" hanging off of a tree. Ill pick a deli because at that same moment my tummy was growling and I needed lunch. Its in a large commerical complex. From the outside its very devoid of character and seems very sterile to look at. Inside is a different story. A very mixed crowd of suits, grubby mechanic jumpsuits and yes my pretentious ass. The have a surprisingly nice menu and it was a very hard decision between the Large Salad bar option or the Roast Turkey Sandwich with Bacon and Avocado. I went with the Roast Turkey and Bacon option. They whip your sandwich up very fast. I was really put off by the clutter of the place. Clutter on the counters, clutter near the tables, clutter behind the counter, clutter near the register. The floors were also filthy. Honestly thats my only complaint. My sandwich was a delight. I liked the bread and thats all the really matters to me. I would probably go back again if I was in the area. The car dismantlers near by are kind of cool to look at while you sit in the car and eat your sandwich. I cant imagine very many people will venture out to this industrial area for lunch but if you happen to be out here stop by. read more

If you like Ike's or Mr Pickle, you might as well take a dump, not wash your hands, then make a sandwich with expired deli meat, moldy cheese, and stale bread without condiments because that's what they offer compared to the premium quality sandwiches Pick-a-Deli provides. From the generous portions of the massive super club to the perfect saurkraut distribution in a reuben on dark rye, there is no other deli in the area that can compete. If you like regular sandwiches take your butt to subway because this place makes sandwiches for people who actually love great sandwiches. Wow I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I stumbled upon this fairly busy deli whilst taking my grandmother on an errand. It was uplifting hearing every customer dining in & out having nothing but magnificent compliments of the restaurant. At first my grandmother and I were just keeping warm from the breeze since my luck I locked the keys in the car and had too call AAA. Bummer After that I worked up quite an appetite so I decided to give the fast paced deli a try. Everything was so good from the accuracy of the order to the freshness of my product. The wife decided to meet me for lunch. Having always passed by it but never entered, decided to give Pick A Deli a shot. Best way to describe Pick A Deli, it's your typical business park deli. Not much on either décor and to be honest the place needs a bit of updating and probably a good cleaning too. They offer a decent select of sandwiches from Turkey, Roast Beef, Ham, etc and a selection of breads (all of them store bought from your local Safeway). Prices here are ok, we're talking about $5 for a sandwich which IMHO a bit high for what you get because for about $10 you can probably buy all the stuff they use and have sandwiches for a week. Looking over the menu decided to get the Turkey Sandwich on sliced sourdough and the wife got the Veggie Sandwich. I will say that they were generous with both the meat and the veggies on the sandwich. My wife's veggie sandwich was actually much larger than mine which was impressive. As to the sandwich, they were ok. As I said before, it wasn't anything that I couldn't do at home for $10. The only two unusual features about this deli is that they do offer a salad bar and they have a REAL BAR (more like they serve beer here) which might be nice if looking for something special after a rough morning. As to ratings, it will do in a pinch, but nothing special. Overall, just your typical business park deli and that's worthy of a 3 star rating. read more

What a dump. I usually check out a place first by their restrooms and the men's room was terrible with signs of water damage, graffiti on the walls and just general grossness. Then I ordered a coffee (not in the men's room, in the main room) and for $1.25 I got a lousy coffee in a styrofoam cup from a surly, disinterested group of Asians with a cup that didn't even have a drinking hole in it. Unless you're desperate or just like places that used to be worth going to, stay away. Or pick a deli that cares about what the customers think, because these rude people certainly don't by the product I got or the environment in which I got it. read more

I was so not impressed with this place. I drive by it all the time and read the great reviews on yelp so I figured it would be great. I would rather drive a little further and go to Togo's. The menu on the wall is confusing and scattered. I told the woman helping me what I wanted and then the woman next to her started asking me what I wanted on my sandwich at the same time. I couldn't finish my order because they kept talking over each other and over me. It didn't annoy me it just confused me. Finally the woman helping me told the woman next to her to stop talking. It's super close to work so I only go here for convenience's sake. They've served my friend a sandwich with avocado that had black veining which was not even edible. It's basically impossible to not notice all the black veining when it was sliced up and put in the sandwich. It's offensive they'd even serve it. I've had their chicken teriyaki plate a few times and it somewhat does the job. I like the fried rice it comes with but there's something about the chicken that doesn't feel right. It tastes like processed pre-frozen chicken strips with store bought sauced placed on top. I'm used to marinating and grilling, instead of a sauce on top of defrosted meat. I'll be back due to convenience but Star Cafe (on Winton) isn't too ridiculously far that convenience won't outweigh taste and quality too often. read more

I seem to have become a regular for lunch here. Just a mile from my office so it was easy I guess. Although nothing fancy at all, the food is always very good and very affordable too. What I really like is that they offer different hot meal specials every day. Today I had meatloaf with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies for $7.96 with tax included. And it was delish. Great sandwiches too. Service is always prompt and efficient. It is in an unusual spot being in an industrial/office park type area. If you are not paying attention, you could miss it. Good fresh roasted turkey sandwich. The problem was taking the advice of the sandwich maker (who was very sweet) to substitute French baguette for Dutch crunch which they ran out of. Wow.. It was like shoe leather. I ended up eating the turkey and cheese and then eating the bread. It wasn't bad tasting--the bread just didn't match the filling.
