EATLIKEANAPEX REFERENCE: CRISPY PATA & FILIPINO-INSPIRED PIZZA I've eaten crispy patas at different Filipino eateries in the Bay Area. I'll be honest most of them aren't that good because even though the skin is crispy the meat is really dry. On YouTube I watched an episode of eatlikeanapex, which is a food channel on YouTube whose host Christian goes to different places to eat with a lot of focus on Filipino eateries. One of the episodes I watched featured Fresh Pizza Restaurant because of the crispy pata, which by most customers have stated to be the best in the Bay Area. I had to find out myself. I came here to Fresh Pizza Restaurant about two months ago for lunch. I ordered the jumbo crispy pata and a cup of garlic rice. Most of the orders were takeout only, but I asked if I could dine inside the restaurant. I was able to sit at a table across from the counter. From appearance the skin and meat on the crispy pata were crispy. The skin was crispy to my delight however I was concerned the meat on the crispy pata would be too crunchy and dry. Oh I was wrong. Even though the meat on the outside is crispy the meat inside was moist. I don't know if Fresh Pizza Restaurant serves the best crispy pata in the Bay Area, but the crispy pata I ate here is what I have been waiting for. The crispy pata as a whole was moist yet not fatty. I didn't feel bloated when I was eating the crispy pata. Having the soy sauce and garlic rice cut the richness of the crispy pata. When I eat a crispy pata I don't like rarely do I go back to that same Filipino restaurant. After having crispy pata for lunch I knew I wanted to come back here again, but not for the crispy pata. In another episode of eatlikeanapex he went back to Fresh Pizza again for Filipino pizza. He ordered a large pizza of half chicken adobo and pork sisig. From watching the episode I noticed the crust was thin. I'm a big believer if the pizza has heavy toppings the crust needs to be thin in order to taste the toppings. Last Saturday night I placed an ordered for tocino pizza for the NFC Divisional Game between the 49ers and Seahawks. I also placed an order for lumpia. When I picked up the pizza I noticed the cheese appeared to be cooked well-done. That could be because the pizza was in the box for a while. The lumpia was a nice snack to start with the crispy outside and moist meat inside. The contrast of the sweet tocino and savory tomato sauce made the pizza flavorful. One of the most unique pizzas I've had. Since the crust was thin I could taste the tocino without tasting too much of the dough. I'll just say that I enjoyed eating my tocino pizza more than watching the 49ers lose last Saturday night. Would I come back to Fresh Pizza Restaurant again? Yes. Since I enjoyed the cripsy pata and tocino pizza I would like to try other pork items like lechon kawali and crispy liempo. If I do come back Fresh Pizza Restaurant again that crispy pata might be "calling on me". read more

Finally got a chance to try this place. I assumed this place would feel right at home since I am Filipino and would feel welcomed since that's our culture. The service we got was totally the opposite. The lady at the register that took our order was lightweight rude. The first thing she said to us was "this is to go right"? Smh. But once a "Tita" arrived with her friend after us, it's okay for them to dine in. Assuming I don't understand Tagalog, I understood everything. Fast forward to getting our food, she handed us our pizza and my daughter's tocilog. We went to the car and was going to eat there and then realized she didn't even give us any napkins, utensils or cheese and peppers. My daughter ran back in to ask for utensils and she gave her attitude not wanting to give her the utensils and told her "we only have forks". We found this place by accident, and decided to check it out. WE LOVED THE FOOD. The hospitality and friendliness was a huge plus. We ordered pork sisig, lumpia 20pc and the lechon kawali, sisilog and extra garlic rice. the serving sizes are large and had us so full that we couldn't finish everything. The place is cute and felt hole in the wall, perfect quiet and a break from reality. Highly recommend this place to anyone considering of getting Filipino food in San Lorenzo. I came here twice before I decided to write a review of Fresh Pizza (aka Fresh Filipino). Besides having a wide variety of pizza, this family restaurant also offers a wide variety of Filipino dishes. I appreciated Elizabeth's friendliness and respectful nature when taking my take-out orders. So far, I've only tried their Filipino offerings. Their crispy pata (deep fried pig feet) is to die for. Crispy and crunchy skin and moist, tender meat combined with a savory, vinegary dipping sauce makes a winning, mouth-watering combination. I've also tried their pancit bihon/canton (rice noodle dish) combo which was okay if you like noodle dishes. Their boneless bangus (deep fried milkfish) was delicious, but I wish a dipping sauce was provided (maybe a slightly-salted vinegar and garlic dipping sauce?). I enjoyed their garlic fried rice which went well with the crispy pata. There goes my high blood sugar! All in all, Fresh Pizza was a great find for me, and I would definitely come again! read more

Ordered food trays for a party at home. On their website you can see prices of the trays, S/M/L We had about 25 people total, the SMALL SIZE on their catering menu is perfect! Their medium size is HUGE, so like we ordered beef with vegetables ( kinda like chop suey ) medium size and it was too much. Should have gotten a small instead. So basically small sizes work better if you have multiple dishes up to 25 people, as it's pretty generous. They open at 3:30pm but can accommodate if you need your food by a certain time, just ask and let them know. The hit at our party was lumpia and sisig. So yesterday I ordered a shrimp sinigang, pork lumpia, and pork sisig. Initially felt sick and had the liquid runs. Thought I was food poisoned. But today when I went to work I threw up and could not stop hitting the bathroom. Went to the doctors and they diagnosed me with ecoli. Sad to say my family has been coming here for years and I would have to say that I will no longer come this establishment anymore. I will never again set foot in this establishment. I was there with a group. We decided to do separate checks. The waitress was cold and sullen. She clearly didn't want to be at work that night. Her attitude went even further south when she heard "separate checks". Next: I ordered a small pizza and was told minimum order was $12. The small pizza is under $12. I thought the minimum was odd, too high. I would have gotten up and exited right then but as mentioned I was with a group and it would have been awkward to just get up and leave. So I ordered a large pizza figuring I'd take some home. But first I asked about the time since I only had an hour before leaving for work. She mumbled that it be fine as far as time. It wasn't. I finally asked for it in a box since I wouldn't have time to eat any before it was time for me to leave for work. I looked at their website later and saw the minimum order of $12 is only for credit cards! Still high I think. I've seen $5 minimum but not $12. The waitress did not state that the minimum was just for credit cards. I paid cash BTW. The pizza was good. But the service was terrible. We just bought a home behind this plaza, and have been trying the restaurant, you know support our Local businesses. We had heard that their pizza was good, but we had to try their Garlic Rice and lumpia's. Holy moly! Was it delicious! I've tasted a lot of my favorite traditional Filipino foods infused in burritos and tacos. My latest encounter was a Filipino food infused pizza! I had Fresh Pizza in my bookmarks for quite sometime. Since I was in the area, I decided to make a trip here after my an appointment. This place didn't open till 5pm, but I did arrive ten minutes after five. The restaurant was empty so the ordering was a cake walk. When I went to place my order, the gentlemen assisting was very polite and friendly. I inquired on ordering a pizza to go that contained a half order of chicken adobo and the other half of pork sisig on the pizza. Don't let the name of the restaurant fool you. It may seem that they serve only pizza hence the name of the establishment, but they also double as a Filipino restaurant. So with that being said, you can customize a pizza with traditional or Filipino toppings. They do have a check-in offer here for a free order of lumpia, but the minimum purchase is $25. The coupon on the Yelp app is outdated (min. purchase $7.50 not valid). The pizza took about 10 - 15 minutes to prepare. While waiting for my pizza, the restaurant's phone was ringing constantly. I guess I came at a good time before they started getting bum rushed with orders. My pizza was done during the allotted time stated. Now, I just had to fight the freeway traffic to at least enjoy this pizza while it's still hot. The pizza was warm when I arrived at the house. The pizza had a nice presentation. You could clearly tell the pizza was customized to my liking. There was not skimping on any of the meats. The cheese was semi gooey due to cooling down from my drive home. The onions were crispy. The first slice I picked up was the chicken adobo slice. The had that soy sauce taste with that hint of vinegar. The second slice I had picked was the pork sisig slice. Every bite I took, the sisig was present at all times. The meat were a little dry, but that was expected of being baked in the oven. The pizza dough was good. I give this place a 3.5. The reason it's not higher is because of the service and the atmosphere. I've only had take out because its not really a place I'd like to hang out and eat at. It's dark and kind of dingy and yes it's hot. They need more ventilation in there! The first time I ordered, I got great customer service over the phone. The second time, I just got ok service. The lady was not very professional. She wasn't rude but she wasn't polished either. One of their relatives (maybe she works there too) stepped in while I was waiting for my order. She walked behind the counter and she gave her Tita a kiss. Then Tita was like "Go eat your food." I am all for family love but, I just thought that was weird because they should have a back entrance or something. I can see right into the kitchen. The kitchen could be cleaner and more organized. I am just putting faith in the fact that they do pass health code and that it is up to date! So anyway, after all that, I was doubting myself for ordering food here. I got my order and left. When I got home to the family, we were not disappointed and once again this place delivered on taste. The food is really home cooked. The crispy pata was $16. I live nowhere near this place, and it's actually out of the way for me whenever I decide to stop by for some sisig pizza. However, whenever I get the chance, I will drive out to this pizza shop hidden in a San Lorenzo neighborhood just to grab a sisig pizza to share with family & friends. My boyfriend and I called ahead of time to order a pizza and eat it for here. To our surprise, the place was super crackin! Once we got there, they saved a spot in the ever so crowded room for us and sat us down with our food and drinks. It was so loud in there because there was a band playing and people dancing to the music. I never would have expected this from a pizza shop! It was such great entertainment. Even though my boyfriend and I couldn't hold a conversation because we had to shout at each other, we took turns exchanging smiles because it put us in such a good mood to see all these older folks having such a fun time. It felt like a big family reunion even though I had no idea who any of the people were. I was super impressed with the lady who was singing - she was really good at it! As for the food, we got a medium half sisig half chicken adobo for $13.95 (including tax). I enjoyed the sisig more, whereas my boyfriend enjoyed the chicken adobo more. The size was perfect for the both of us. We even took home two slices. TIP: Spend $25 to get a free order of lumpia! Their food is good, sisig pizza is unique, however I will give their Catering and Catering Service 1 star. Unprofessional and deceiving. - I called on Friday wanting a quote for a party I was hosting the following Saturday, and they didn't give me the final price until that following Monday. - The amount of people the website said it would feed was incorrect. Small tray said it would feed 15-20 people. I had 30 people so I thought I would order 4 trays plus 2 large pizzas. When I asked to confirm how much my order would feed, they said "up to 20 people." What?! If a small tray feeds 15-20, and I order 4, it should feed 60-80! His wife explained that it was because I was ordering 4 DIFFERENT trays, so everyone is going to want to try each tray and therefore would only feed up to 20 people. I'm sorry, but that does not make any sense whatsoever. Just because there are different trays doesn't mean your stomach gets bigger. To go from a small tray that can feed 20 people to only 5 is a HUGE difference. I called a different caterer and cancelled my order with them. I was so upset and stressed since it was only a few days from the event. However, I left a message thanking them for their time and Ted replied nicely for the opportunity for the quotation. I also emailed them to kindly suggest that their website be updated since it seems that the small tray can only realistically feed 5-10 people, but I have not received a response. I believe they are nice people, but this was just extremely unprofessional to me. It wasn't until I was told from someone else that they used Fresh Pizza for a debut and Ted lied about staying for the whole event that I decided I should write a yelp review and give them 1 star to show their lack in good catering service. Lying about how many people your tray can feed and promising your customers you can stay for a whole event when you can't is extremely unprofessional. I probably won't come back to the restaurant again either since it is overpriced anyway. read more

Usually Filipino restaurants are disappointing- the food either has too much salt, sugar, oil, or fat. Surprisingly, I've never experienced a dish I didn't like @ Fresh Pizza! Best Filipino food if you ask me! Once you get to know the staff, they treat you like family. I like coming in when Ruby is working because she's so funny and knows my usual orders. Haha! Sign up for their fresh rewards program to get special deals or free food. And who doesn't like free food?? =D The more you eat, the more rewards you get.
