It was a small piece of hair, but it's there.
    Lai L.

Today's visit here was absolutely the opposite of what I've experienced in the past. I actually liked the food and the service was decent, but not tah-day, not tah-day! I found food in my hair! As that wasn't unpleasant enough, I took the food back to see what my options were. The man who takes the order wasn't there so I told the lady who prepares the food. She seemed annoyed and kept screaming out his name. When he came to the front, he was denying that it was human hair, saying that it was "chicharon" and that it's hair from the pork. I told him I knew the difference between human hair and pork hair. He kept asking where it was and adjusted his glasses. Eventually, after arguing with me, he asked if I wanted my money back. He only refunded me for one pupusa, when there were clearly two on my plate. I didn't want to argue anymore because I lost my appetite and appeal. I understand that hair happens, but to try to justify it and get defensive is just blatant poor customer service. Needless to say, I don't have a "hair" of desire to return.

Not too many pupuserias around. I was glad to run into this one. The food (pupusas) are made to order and cooked fresh in front of you. The people working are very pleasant. The restaurant is clean, there's lots of counter space to eat. . . We had the bean, cheese & pork pupuss, bean & cheese pupusa and the cheese & loroco pupusa. They were all delish! We also tried the seafood tamale, it was also good & they season the masa well. . . Will def come back to try out the other items. The Butterfly shrimps and chips look good!

    Pupusas before Covid

I came by to pick up food during Covid since it recently opened back up. I use to eat there all the time before Covid too. I felt safe because they had the clear plastic between the cash register and myself. Mask are required of course and currently it is take out only. I got the pupusas and I never regret buying it because they're so delicious and fresh. Sometimes I order the shrimp and fries, they're super crunchy. You can also still stick around to see the pupusa ladies make it for you!!

Totally not what I expected from a restaurant name like Seafood Grill. This place opened down in the Southland Mall food court. They have a variety of seafood appetizers, sandwhiches, and even Tamales and Pupusas! I ordered their Clam Chowder and let me tell you that it is San Francisco worthy! Sooooo good, 5 stars! My kids got Pupusas revueltas, and they were huge with plenty of curtido. I tried some, and too much chicharrones for my taste, but my 7 yr old didn't complain as she devoured two. This place is def a place to visit again.

    Pupusa!!!!

Newly opened and located in the food court. We thought we'd give this place a try especially when I saw they were serving pupusas. $2.75 for a Bean, pork, and cheese pupusa. Freshly made and served with coleslaw. It was awesome! They also serve fresh fruit with tajin, chamoy and a tamarind stick. So good! Spoke to the owner and they've been open for the past 3 days. No credit card system in place just yet so it's cash only for now. Haven't tried the seafood yet but we will definitely be back!

    First time eating here!

Since I was in the area today, I finally went in to get my chicken tamal (if you're not familiar with Salvadorean tamales, they're sooo worth a try! They're wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn and are much more soft and moist). These were $6/tamal. Kinda pricey but they are a bit bigger than most-however the size is moreso due to the amount of masa to meat ratio, which I don't mind since I do love the masa parts. I do wish their chicken was either more shredded or more flavored since some bites of chicken were on the dry side. The bites that wern't so dry were delicious though! Looking at their pics/reviews now it seems other people have tried other kinds of tamales, but I only saw one option on the menu so that's what I went with. All in all, not my absolute favorite tamales, but it hits the spot.

I have curious about pupusa after watching several YouTube video reviews. Although I have seen…read morerestaurants offering them for as so long as I can remember I must admit I have never had any. So today was my day for an adventure. I found this El Salvador Restaurant nearby has decent review albeit not many though. It looked clean and tidy. Walking in around 11:45 am to an empty dimly lit dining, a lady behind the counter greeted me and told to sit anywhere. It was warm with no air circulating as the ceiling fans weren't turned on. I mentioned to her it was my first time having pupusa so she patiently pointed several options. Complimentary chips and salsa were served. I thought the salad needed something to give it kick. I chose lunch #1 that consists of 2 pupusa, plantains, red bed beans and sour cream; separately ordered a lemonade. The drink came short afterwards. It was lemony slightly sweet. My plate came hot as it should and the accompanying coleslaw and red sauce were brought over as well. Pickled coleslaw and red sauce were added to the top of my first pupusa which as the cheese a beans. It was too hot to hold by hand so I ate it with knife and fork. It was definitely something g I never had before. A little hot sauce helped. I wish the doughy covering wasn't so overwhelming as I would appreciate the filling much more. It was the same experience for the second pupusa that was the pork, cheese and beans. Finally the fried plantains, I haven't grown to appreciate at this point and this example didn't improve my opinion, I'm hate to admit. I wasn't sure how to apply the red beans and sour cream so I dipped the plantains in them. I guess I need some guidance. On this initial visit, overall, it definitely was a good experience, service was pleasant, food was good though not sure if it was a great representation of this particular good. But I felt it was a good experience and I'm quite open to trying other dishes here.

There's actually plenty of seats inside for dine-in, but I think I've seen more take-out orders than people dining in. If dining in, I've always ordered at the register and paid first. But I've seen a few El Salvadoran customers eat then pay when they were done, so I think they get a different level of service. No big to me, just an observation. Agua Fresca ($4ish/3.5*) I saw a large glass jug up by the register that looked like a melon agua fresca. I order one but was told it was a mixed fruit version. I'm down tried it anyways. Sure there were a good amount of shredded cantaloupe which gave its summery orange hue. But there were also chunks of apple and maybe orange, so it was definitely fruity like a homemade punch. Too sweet for me tho, as I only sipped a third of it there with my meal. I brought the rest home and diluted it with more filtered water and I was able to stretch it out whilst making it more refreshing. Pupusas ($5ish/4*) I had these twice, one being a revuletas (mixed) and another time with cheese and chicharone. They are quite petite, so 1 for an app is good while 2-3 for a meal would be required. Their masa mix is nice and soft, but they don't griddle it enough for my preference. I like em well browned maybe even slightly charred on the exterior. Here they barely get them browned, so kinda like a medium rare pupusa. Lol. One time it was nice and browned but another time it was pretty pale, so it even looked kinda raw, but it wasn't. The fillings are solid, especially the ones with cheese in the middle. Their curtido and thin tomato salsa is spot on authentic, great crunch with good acidity and bold hits of oregano. So good with the warm pupusas. Platanos Fritos ($6/3.5*) Fried very ripe plantains, so the plantains are quite sweet and soft/mushy. I like bites of this to go with my entree as I like the rotating hits of savory with sweet. Very oily tho. Menudo/Sopa de Pata ($17/4.5*) Perfectly simmered tripe that were so tender and silky which I love. The pata was just 1 small piece, not crazy tender, still had some bite to it. I still love the collagen filled bites, very ethnic eating which is quite natural to me. I think I actually got the hybrid of menudo with their Sopa de Pata, cuz even tho I got a good dose of tender tripe, the broth was white-ish (no red chiles) and there were lots of veggies like sliced zuccini, cabbage, carrots, yucca and corn. Those are definitely not usually part of the menudo definition, but I welcome such veggies in a rich protein meal. I loved this bowl, with a touch more dried chiles and a squeeze of lemon, with bites of fresh thick warm corn tortillas. So filling and so satisfying. I still want to try an El Salvadoran breakfast plate and maybe a carne guisada (stewed beef) platter, so I'm sure I'll be back. Yeah buddy!

Nothing fancy, just plain comfort food. The traditional pupusa was warm and stuffed with hot, melted cheese and beans. The cheese pull was impressively long. I think there was also some shredded pork hidden in the cheese. The curtido or pickled cabbage was yummy and crunchy but more sour than I'm used to. Also got a side of fried sweet plantains. So good. Loved the option of ordering the plantains plain without the beans, crema or queso fresco. Didn't care for the pineapple agua fresca which was too sweet for me. Maybe I should have tried the passion fruit instead. Sat in the dining room closest to the street corner, to the left of the register. Light and airy room. Humble neighborhood restaurant with mom and pop vibes. Small menu but based on my meal, can't wait to come back and try the rest of their food.
