This is my go to pupusa spot. I usually order over the phone and pick it up. I ordered over the phone for take out. The person over the phone was ready to take my order and nice. Usually there's only a few folks working but they always greet you when you come in and are courteous. This time, I ordered 3 pupusas (chicharon and cheese), a side of rice, and a side of plantains. Eveeything was really good by my plantains weren't warm. I always love that they give you a lot of curtido and sauce for your pupusas. They have a parking lot right next door with a blue wall. We have visited this place a handful of times already and have really appreciated the array of options here and the consistency of the good food. We've gotten the combination plate a few times. The tamales are always very tender and fresh, though the corn tamales were a bit on the sweeter side. The enchiladas have really good sauce to it and are always cheesy. The pupusas are amazing and although they are a bit salty, they are fresh and have great toppings inside. You can get a 10% discount off of our food if you pay in cash. The thing that annoys me most about this place is how sometimes the wait is 45 minutes, but one time they called early to say the food was done 10 minutes early...What's the point of the point if I live 10 minutes away? If you don't want a large atmosphere for eating out and you want something that is more relaxing, you will love this place. I have nothing against large crowds but sometimes I want something more relaxing :) And you get that with this place. The food is so awesome and you get nice portions. Fluffy tortillas now those are my favorite. But my husband likes the pupusas he often orders plenty and takes them home to eat for dinner. Just an ample time in the microwave and they are ready to eat again. I can tell you right now they did a good job of remodeling the place during that closed phase. I do realize there is a difference between Mexican and El Salvadorian food but at the same time, the carne asada is wonderful. **COVID TAKEOUT** I was here today because I have been wanting pupusas SO BAD. I did my research for my local area and there were so many mixed reviews. Then I found this place.. I ordered a two pupusa combination plate that comes w/rice and beans, 1 corn tamale and 1 pork tamale. That is totally not what I got. What they gave me (and charged me for) was 2 chicken pupusas, 1 bean/cheese and 1 chicharron. This is one time I'm grateful for the mix up! I got home, cut all of the pupusas in half and shared them! It was unanimous! We LOVED the chicharron and chicken! The flavors were SOOOO on point that it did not need the curtido that comes with it! The meat wasnt ground fine like other places you hear about! It had good size pieces of meat/filling. You know it's good when it needs nothing else and can be eaten as is! Onto the tamales.. The pork tamale was sooooo soft and had huge chunks of pork marinated with pieces of julienne carrots/chili peppers (mild). Delicious! I will say that I'm Spanish/Mexican so I'm used to a different kind of tamale, but this was a good representation of Salvadorian cuisine! I not fancy the corn tamale at all. It was too dry for me. A few minutes later our server came over to take our order. I decided to go with 2 pupusas revueltas. I really liked them, the flavor was there. The salsa wasn't too spicy and went really well with the pupusas. I didn't try the repollo (cabbage slaw) because I don't like it in general regardless of who makes it. I tried a little off the other plates, plátanos, casamientos, Salvadoran eggs and I wasn't really all that impressed. I think if i decide to return I'd probably only stick with the pupusas. We ordered plátano empanadas con leche and they never arrived to our table but were on our bill. I had to kindly remind our server of this. At the end of our meal we had to get up and walk to the register because the women were busy conversing in the kitchen. Lastly, half way through our meal we were bombarded with a fighting couple right outside of the front door. They yelled and she slapped him because he wouldn't give her back her phone. The area where this restaurant is located is pretty sketchy and there is a bar/casino next door. Overall the pupusas were the saving grace for this restaurant. Was running an errand in Hayward and finally made it to Los Planes de Renderos. The friendly waitress explained that the owner here was the original owner of the SF restaurant of the same name, but sold it when she opened the Hayward location. Anyway, they have both masa and rice flour pupusas and all varieties are $2.25 along with other Salvadoran and Mexican dishes. I got a corn pupusa with loroco and cheese and a rice flour pupusa with chicharrón and beans along with some Horchata and a Tamal de Puerco. I love Salvadoran horchata compared to Mexican The morro seeds give it a nuttiness and the version here has a light chocolatey flavor. Its the one that has a pupusa, a tamale, an enchilada, rice and beans. Out the door, for take out you are at $9.50. Its a lot of food and they throw in cabbage for the pupusa. By default, they also give you a vial of hot sauce. The food here is made fresh. I chose the pork pupusa and the meat was plentiful and tender. It was piping hot and served right off the grill. The tamale is steamed to perfection and so soft! The meat is a standard quantity in the tamale. The enchilada is a little on the smaller side but has a nice mole sauce.
