I've been here a couple of times and each time it's pretty filled with patrons. Because it was pretty busy when we arrived, I sat down at the only available table and it was not yet cleaned. So they had to clean it before we sat down again. There was a basket of tortilla chips and fresh salsa, which was nice. Then there was getting our order, which took awhile and we had to wave someone down. I ordered the mole cheese enchiladas, which were really good, just like last time. But the last time, I ordered the chicken enchiladas and was disappointed with the chicken itself, which was dry and not really edible. The people I went with ordered burritos and they liked their food as well. Overall, everyone was happy with their food here, but logistically sometimes it can be hard to get someone's attention because they can be pretty busy. The fish (which was $44) was especially bad and did not taste fresh at all. Even the lemons had no juice. The beans were so dry they felt like wet sand, and the rice was just average at best. Our total came out to $107 for two plates (fish and a shrimp quesadilla), two horchatas, and a tamarindo margarita. The margarita tasted like watered-down tequila with no tamarindo flavor whatsoever. Service was also lacking. Our server (an older man) took our order and barely checked on us afterward. When we were ready to leave, it took over 10 minutes just to get the bill. Interestingly, he became attentive only when it was time to pay. Overall, very overpriced for the quality of food and service. I would not recommend. read more

Time for an update of my review since it has been sooo long. We came in after a hiatus of a couple years. The original family has sold to another, and we were skeptical as most people would be of new ownership. We came in pretty early on a week night and were immediately greeted and walked to our booth. The decor is pretty much the same, and the booths are newer and cleaner. The new owner/manager was working on some lighting at that time. The menu is the same with lots of traditional Mexican faire. It was always good food and plentiful in the past. They have kept that alive! YAY. . . We both ordered the Texas chimichanga... word of warning... IT's gigantic! And, during the week they 'currently' have 2 for 1 cocktails. Not only are the cocktails potent, but also still reasonably priced. We were happy to see they have retained the charm of this little establishment that rocks the town. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. Kind of hard to find a good sit down, Mexican restaurant with authentic taste and flavor. This spot did it for me! The only other local spot I'd consider good is La Piñata but even then it is hit or miss and typically very busy! For me personally, parking was a bit stressful since it's limited and on a fairly busy street but once you get inside you're welcomed by staff and sat quickly. It was Sunday around 11am not much of a wait! They checked on us a few times to make sure all was good. I will definitely be back to try more dishes! Yum!! read more

I can't believe I have not written a review for this location yet. I have been going here for over 11 years. The food has never failed but the service is up and down depending when you go. It is a small location but the music is never too loud and the ambiance is calm quiet. This time I ordered one of my favorites the Campechana. As always, there's always too much food for one sitting and it's fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the carne asada with chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were a little too tomato-y for him but the asada is always soooooo good! The service was slow the last time we went and it wasn't busy. The server even forgot the second drink my husband ordered. Nonetheless the food is too good and we'll keep coming back regardless of the service and that's saying something for me. read more

How do I not know about this place?! Went on a Monday night, it was almost closing time but the servers were still happy to serve us. Customer service here is EXCELLENT! Everyone was so kind and helpful and never annoyed when you ask them for something. The place is small but don't let that fool you! Once you go inside, you will be amazed by the vibrant colors and lights throughout. It's almost Valentine's Day and they had plenty of Valentine's Day decor. I thought it was so pretty and cute. We had the fish tacos and the combo fajitas. The fajitas were very tasty! The meat was smothered in some kind of sauce and we loved it. The fish tacos were delicious but the fish was like a filet, I was hoping it was gonna be a thicker fish. The food tasted wonderful but the servings of the meat were small. We didn't mind as they were more than happy to give us unlimited chips. Parking is limited. They have a small parking lot in the back but plenty of street parking. Bruh this place doesn't know what ceviche or good service is. To seat us, the waiter handed me two menus and two napkins and told us to sit at a table across the restaurant instead of seating us. When ordering, I asked the waiter if an order of ceviche tostadas came with one or two tostadas and he said it came with two. The ceviche wasn't diced and cooked in lemon juice as it traditionally is. The onions were slices, the shrimp was boiled and sliced in halves, and it barely tasted of lemon juice. We also had to get up and go to the register counter to ask for utensils and more napkins because we couldn't get a single waiter's attention. When the check came, the receipt had two tostada charges and when we asked "didn't you say one order came with two tostadas" he replied "yea it does" and didn't explain further. So if you wanna spend $13 EACH tostada of what would barely be considered ceviche and nearly self service, then come here. If you check out the other reviews here you can see it's a common trend for them to price as they wish! I would AVOID this place. The salsa with the chips was bomb AF tho. That's the only thing I would come here for. read more

First of all I did not expect this place to be so nice when I entered. I was genuinely surprised how nice it look. From the outside it looked like a hole on a wall restaurant but when you go inside it's beautiful It's a nice little restaurant with a bar. Right now they themed their restaurant for Valentine's Day, so this would be a perfect place to spend your valentine day in! The service was outstanding. Our server took our food and drinks without any problem. Checked up on us and refilled our chips when it started to get low. The food here is amazing. I got the Burro gigante and I usually do not like smothered burrito but their homemade green sauce was something else. It tasted amazing. Wife and I wanted Mexican food for lunch and wanted to try a new place. We ventured to Vallarta on East 14th Street in San Leandro. Mostly street parking in this converted restaurant that likely was a motel restaurant in it's past. Apartments in the back now where motel rooms used to be. East 14th had a bunch of motels in the old days..... The restaurant has high ceilings, dark woods and rock motif and reminded us of a Tiki Bar... interesting as the drinks they serve look like they could come from a Tiki Bar. And they serve a LOT of drinks which flow when the Mexican Juke Box is on. The music is modern Latin with ballads and rap - great song choices by a group that went thru three rounds of drinks while we were there! A happening place. Since it was my wife and my first time there, she wanted to try a mole and I wanted to try a combo to get an idea as to the kitchen skills. We also wanted a drink but opted for non-alcohol, thus two satisfying Horchatas in nice size glasses to accompany the complimentary tortilla chips and red salsa. - Chicken Enchiladas in Mole Sauce with rice and beans. Lots of chicken in the enchiladas while the sauce could have been a little more chocolaty tasting. - Chile Relleno, Ground Beef Crispy Taco, Chicken Enchilada in Green Sauce Combo with rice and beans. GET the crispy tacos here as they come with guacamole, lettuce, sour cream in a very crispy taco shell. The Chile Relleno was cheesy good. Overall - service was excellent, really great atmosphere, get the Tiki style / Hawaii Vacation style drinks, get the crispy tacos or seafood platters which many were ordering.
