I got takeout from Los Cantaros and it was just okay. The california surf and turf burrito was very dry and lacking of flavor. However, the shrimp was cooked perfectly though. The steak and eggs burrito was tasty but quite spicy. It would've been nice to have a mild option. Spicy lovers should definitely order it! I enjoyed how the runny egg made it saucy. It's cool that they sell fries, but they weren't that great (but l attribute that to us doing takeout). They also have churros con cajeta (filled with caramel). It was a little dense, but the caramel was the saving grace. Perhaps Los Contaros would be a better experience when dining in, so I may need to give it another shot some other time. read more

It had been a year from our last visit when they got our order Wrong. Today was not Wrong just Awful. Steak Burrito should have equal Steak and beans and adequate Salsa for freshness, Had Neither. The Salsa with the Chips wasn't Salsa but Broth with tomato and Serrano peppers. Chili Verde Burrito had the Awful Chip Salsa inside, Chili Verde IS Poblano Jalapeño Onion and Garlic. This Burrito had NONE of These so it was a Pork Burrito! Both Burrito's were Awful because of Wrong Sauces and Spice Heat. Would not recommend this Restaurant! read more

Los Cantaros keeps things clean, and I'll give credit where it's due. The booth seats are all worn out, but they've done a decent job taping up the major tears--ghetto but effective. Windows are spotless, the lighting is great, and the floors aren't sticky. Kudos on that front. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. No one greeted me when I came in, and there wasn't a single staff member at the front. I had to seat myself and grab a paper menu. All the prices were blacked out, so I had to wait until someone finally emerged from the back just to ask how much anything cost. While I was mid-order, the cashier took a phone call and started talking to someone else while still trying to take my order--not a great experience. Then there's the food. I got a steak burrito, which came out quickly and was served piping hot--that's probably the best part. But the first bite was all dry, crispy tortilla. The meat was finely chopped, almost like it was meant for someone without teeth. There was barely any flavor, and the tiny cup of salsa and lime they gave helped a little, but it ran out way too fast. After that, it was a bland, dry slog to finish the rest. Based on this experience, I don't have high hopes for anything else on the menu. The only upside is the park next door--at least you can try to salvage your visit after the disappointment. read more

Just like my Nañas cooking! We came here since we were at the Nursery a block away. As soon as you walk in, the entire restaurant is spotless. I didn't see a Chili Verde plate on the menu but asked and there is. I also got the quesabirria. I wish I didn't have to order to go since food is always better right away. The Chili verde was so good with a thick green sauce and the piece of pork (chicken is an option too) was a nice big piece of meat. It tasted so good with a nice spicy kick. The quesabirria had a nice texture still. Even 20 minutes later. Unfortunately it wasn't spicy but tasted really good. We completely ate the entirety of both plates that come with rice and beans and chip with each plate. I found my new spot for Mexican food. read more

We've came to this place a couple times now. I don't think they are that good.. they have a large option of items. From steak and shrimp burritos to salmon burritos, mole, fajitas, salads. If you ask me. They have too many options so all that says to me is the food is just being made and not really cooked with that love so flavor just isn't there. Lady at the front is nice and rereads the order. Second time we came she even walked out to door to call us from our car to let us know food was ready! Which was nice but she didn't bring our food all the way to car which I think woulda just made sense but maybe it was in case we wanted salsa or something? Or another customer could've been inside and she didn't wanna leave register unattended. So I completely understand! Nice of her to even come to door to call us. This place just wasn't to my liking. I rolled in to Los Con taros like a Boss and Ordered off their Large menu. I ordered a California Super Burrito- Shrimp, French Fries, Black Beans , Rice and Beef . I also ordered 4 Mexico City Street Tacos 2 Beef and 2 Chicken . I paid by Credit Card!!! My Food was ready in 15 Minutes!!! My Super Burrito Past the Arm Size Girth test! It also had a Nice Spinach Wrap !!! It was Packed full of Flavor and Tasty it was!!! The Burrito must have been 3 inch's in Diameter!!! The Mexico City Street Tacos were Delicious and Good sized portions of Chicken and Beef. Service was Friendly and Efficient !!! Ordered a super burrito (with tomato tortilla), and extra chips and guacamole. Unfortunately I got pico instead of guac, but that fine (thus the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars). The burrito isn't as large as other taquerias, but to me, that is great because I do not want to feel compelled to overeat and finish the entire thing. We've eaten here and ordered to go several times over the last few years and it's gotten progressively worse. Our last order is the last order for us. Ordered two burritos, a Chilli Relleno and Carnitas, both should have never been served to humans. Rancid chilli, slimy pork and stale chips. I come for Taco Tuesday because you get a bang for a couple bucks! I ordered a carnitas taco and a steak taco which is served with lime, radishes and grilled onion bulbs and peppers that are so fresh and delicious I keep coming on Tuesdays specifically for this. The steak is sliced just right unlike the mini chopped steak another taqueria serves that it tastes more like ground beef instead of steak. Salsas are fresh too and spiced just right. This Los Cantaros isn't as welcoming, no salsa bar, no chips or salsa offered, no utensils and the bare minimum ONLY if you ask for it. Met fellow Black Badge Yelper (BBY in da house), David N for late lunch and suggested this place as the Emeryville location is pretty solid. Never a good feeling to suggest a place only for it to be a let down...the guy who took our order was very 'unenthused' and scripted...mentioned it was for dine in and received my burrito wrapped in foil, in a red, plastic basket.. David N asked for utensils (for me) which the guy seemed like 'um okay'... I'm sorry if I'm the type of person who eats her burrito with utensils...unless you're gonna give me more napkins! Which of course, they don't openly offer along with those chips and salsa! Sheesh...the regular steak burrito itself was ok and David's nachos looked promising but that seemed to be an 'A-OK' for him as well. Met up with Cheryl M for a casual Sunday lunch. I was feeling like Mexican and ended up here. I'd passed this place up a few times and was happy to try it out. You order off the board and find yourself a seat. It's nice and clean with a few booths and tables. Kinda old school with clear plastic tables covers. A roll of paper towels instead of napkins at each table. The cashier server brings out your food. I had my Steak Nachos made "Super" with dab or guacamole and sour cream. It was okay, not exceptional, but tasty. With hindsight, I should have ordered something else. You have to ask for silverware, napkins, and salsa. There's a sign that says they no longer offer free chip and salsa, but it appears others folks got some. The staff are nice and parking is plentiful. read more

I come here occasionally for Taco Tuesday and get the Mexico City tacos. They are always hella good and fresh. The ladies in this establishment are nice and were very helpful when explaining the limitations on phone orders. FYI, if it is over $40 they will need to take your payment over the phone. I don't care for this method, so I decided to just come inside and order. The wait was not bad, maybe 10-15 minutes. Back to the tacos, I usually get carne asada. They don't serve fatty/chewy meat which is a great. They garnished with cilantro and onion and on the side it is lime, grilled serrano peppers, grilled pearl onions and radish. I love the Emeryville location so when I saw this location on Yelp, I had to make a stop. Let me start by saying they make the best burritos ever! You get to pick your choice of tortilla, I always pick tomato. It's really good. This location has their own private parking, which is nice! We were really happy with our lunch from Los Cantaros. We hadn't ordered here in a while, but this used to be one of our go-to Mexican restaurants for takeout pre-pandemic and I missed their food! Their menu has all of the traditional items like burritos, tortas, tacos, fajitas, tamales, quesadillas, etc. but they have a lot of meat and seafood options, along with some vegetarian choices, which is wonderful when you like variety! So far, their burritos and tamales have been the main things we get every time. What we ordered: - Chicken Fajita Burrito: My favorite. Great mix of flavors with a good ratio of grilled chicken breast, green and red bell peppers, and onions, along with rice, salsa, and a lighter amount of beans. You can choose either hot salsa or mild pico de gallo, pinto, black, refried, or no beans, and select from 4 different tortillas: flour, spinach, tomato, or whole wheat. Portions were good. - Pastor Burrito: Hubby's favorite (from any restaurant) and his first reaction was YUM. His burrito came with the same options as above. Meat was seasoned and cooked well and he said the salsa was on point. Super flavorful, especially with pineapple. Repeat? Yep! - Pork Tamales: Two tamales served with rice, choice of beans, and side salad. They usually come topped with salsa verde, cheese, and crema, but I asked for plain this time around and they were still tasty. The dish was slightly on the smaller side, including the sides of rice and beans, but still enjoyable. You can call to order takeout and delivery is available via GrubHub and DoorDash. My #1 spot for breakfast hands down. I've ordered so many different menu items from them, and none of them failed. The nachos are filled to the top, to the point the cheese is touching the cover. The eggs with chorizo are my go-to everytime. The churros, I would literally drive out of my way to get it on its own if I had to. We ordered take out, so we really cannot post a restaurant review. The food was very flavorful and huge portions (we ordered the super burritos). We also ordered chips and guacamole. The chips were not as plentiful however, but since we were dining at home that wasn't an issue. We will be back to sample more of the menu! read more

Started coming here since it opened, me and my mother were super thrilled to have another Mexican restaurant Aside from Los pericos 5 restaurant locations. When I say this is authentic Mexican food, I am not lying! I've had I think most of the menu already with my favorites being; Chilaquiles rojos con arrachera (spicy) Camarones a la Diabla (even more spicy) Carne asada plate comes with onion rice salad (little side salsa is spicy) Order of asada sopes (2 full sopes side rice ; not spicy) Baja taco (not spicy but very delicious) Wet burrito half green half red Ok you guys get it I've been here many times haha This is my go to restaurant in San Leandro if I'm not cooking dinner. Lately, I've been coming here for brunch; the breakfast burrito or chilaquiles are my go-to choices. What a disappointment. I've been a huge fan of Los Cantaros, from way back when we first started going to their place near Grand Lake in Oakland over 10 years ago. We've been a loyal customer all these years. But. Something happened. Their customer service was always great, and they were always flexible and able to provide substitutions for us. And in the last few years since I stopped eating meat, they've never had a problem. Until today. I went in and asked for their Tampico salad, substituting black beans for the chicken on their salad. "We don't do that," the cashier said. Uh... what? To confirm, she turned around and asked the grill cook in the kitchen. The cook shakes her head. "No." In all these years we've been coming here, we've never had a problem subbing out beans in the salad. It's been my go-to dish there. And considering how expensive beef is these days, you'd think they'd jump at the chance to save money by just ladling some black beans onto the salad. You'd think, right? No can do. This is ridiculous. They just lost a 10-year-plus customer. My husband, who used to think their quesadilla tasted like mana from the gods, thought it didn't quite taste as good the last time we had food there (back when they gladly let me have black beans instead of meat on the Tampico salad). Maybe they've changed management. Sigh. I so loved the place. We even made sure we ordered takeout from them regularly during the pandemic, since they were one of the few locally owned places we loved, and we wanted to help them stay in business. read more

Ordered: surf and turf California burrito, caldo tlalpeño, asada quesadilla, asada super nachos. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. Chips were stale. The portions were hella small, with the exception of the steak quesadilla. Small serving of soup- no side of rice smh. Burrito was small. Loose. Didn't have have very much filling. 5 small shrimp in the WHOLE burrito. Not much meat or beans on the nachos but there was a good portion of guacamole, sour cream and pico. The place was clean and colorful, but the bucket of water to serve the guest was kinda sketchy. I went with at bottle Coke for $3.50 instead.... won't be back read more

I ordered some chicken Mole enchiladas on GrubHub and they were some of the best Mole enchiladas I have had! the sauce was so good. The order came with rice and beans, salad and chips and salsa, which is so rare these days no restaurants want to give you chips and salsa without paying for it much less a to go order! they were absolutely bomb, and I will definitely be ordering from them again. Best Mexican spot around, and for very decent prices. Look no further!! They do all the traditional dishes so well, and we would know since we've tried nearly all of the menu, lol. The food is so fresh and they have great variety - for example they offer side of real sautéed vegetables, with a minimum 6 different veggies - the real deal, and perfect to make your anti-veg kids to eat "at least one" they don't absolutely hate.
