This is going to be a long review…read more In 2023, my boyfriend Jack and I had a chance to come here. At the time, this place was new to me, and the pavilion in front was a recent addition. Even though I live nearby, I hadn't noticed that this little corner had a taqueria with such a nice seating area. Jack suggested we try the taqueria close to me, but I told him we should go across Tennyson to another spot I was more familiar with. So we went there instead. It was a nice meal, and for the first time in my life, I had horchata - he knew I would love it. I still remember him saying, "I thought we were going to the one closer to you!" He was talking about this place :Taqueria La Placita. I thought we would have another chance to come here together. Life doesn't always give you that chance. About a month later, he passed away in an accident. I spent the rest of 2023 in a very dark place. After some time, on a normal evening when I was craving Mexican food, I came here alone and ordered a super veggie burrito. The interior is divided into two sections- one with dining tables of different heights, and another with a bar-style seating area facing wall-mounted TVs. There are also screens displaying the menu with rotating photos of different dishes. This place immediately gave me a sense of comfort. The burrito came wrapped in foil, along with a paper bag of tortillas and salsa. The packaging and service were excellent. The dining area was clean and well-organized, and there were plenty of people enjoying their meals. I regret missing that one opportunity to come here with Jack. I can only imagine how beautiful that memory would have been. Every time I stand in line here, I think about it - I picture us sitting together, eating at this taqueria. I wish I could tell him how good this place is, if he could hear me. This is a memory I can't share with him, so I'm sharing it here instead. I hope that anyone who reads this will understand both the happiness and the sorrow behind it--the story of me, Jack, and the one missed chance to eat together at this place. I must mention how much my husband and I hate most seafood. We are both very particular about our shrimp. It has to be fresh and not too fishy tasting. Mi esposo es Mexicano y soy Güera. We are both obsessed with the shrimp burritos at La Placita! I wish I could take a picture to post with my review, but it's gone before I ever have the chance! They are packed with fresh delicious shrimp. Not the cheap kind, these taste like prawns. They are not tiny shrimp like you get in most restaurants. Hands down the BEST SHRIMP BURRITO you will find and yes it's worth the drive. Delicious guacamole and all the fixings of a standard "super burrito" (but the right combination and balance to accompany shrimp). I once came on a weekend early afternoon and had to turn around and look for an alternative...line out the friggin' door. Came on a weekday late in the lunch hours (2ish pm) and was able to get in the door. But within minutes of receiving my order, a line of over 10 peeps roll in and now the place seemed busy. This place has serious pull. All they do is carnitas, but in true authentic Mexican fashion. Carnitas is straight pork cooked in its own lard. It is seasoned simply (probably just salt) and cooked low and slow until the meat gets incredibly tender. Pretty much 'confit' method which is used in other cultures as well. But in true authentic fashion, in those pots of lard bubbling away, they are just not cooking pork meat. They are also cooking pork skin, one crispy (chicharone), one soft and chewy (cueritos), and also Buche which is the pork stomach lining, so it has a dense and meaty texture, but when confit'd is pretty darn good. You can get these carnitas in taco form, which seemed very popular during that lunch hour. Or you can get it as a combo plate with rice and beans. Or you can get any of those pork items by the pound, which I'm sure the majority of peeps do on weekends to take back home to feed a small army. Combo #3 ($16ish/4*) This is their smallest combo that can feed 1-2. Has about a pound of protein of choice, a small scoop of rice and refried beans, a decent size of salsa and 6 corn tortillas. I ate half there and brought the rest home for a light dinner later. Also comes with a fountain drink, so really nice value given how many meals I was able to get from it. Now when you order a combo, you pick what types of protein you want. You can get just the pork meat, which seems like mostly pork leg meat given the thick fibers in the chunks. It is quite tender and pulls with ease. The seasoning is perfect but is made even better with their thin and slightly spicy red salsa. I tried the 'mixta' option which was pork meat mixed with tender pork skin and even a bit of the buche. Definitely more exotic but very satisfying from my perspective. I think next time I'm going to order by the pound. Get a pound of meat, a half pound of the soft and gelatinous skin and a half pound of crispy chicharones. That way I can make my own tacos at home with all 3 components topped with their salsa and my own chopped onions and cilantro. Damn I'm drooling just thinking about it. Vamos cabron.

They have a full bar) The menu is extensive and very pescatarian-friendly! They even have a "Mexican Sushi" menu! The combo came with beans, rice, & salad, but there was no challenge giving my rice as a side to hubby. We were served chips and salsa which was decent. My combo was served 1st with a bit of a wait for the soup (which was eventually served with all the trimmings & a gracious thanks for waiting)! Soooo worth the wait! All of the food was so good. Hubby loved loved the soup and the items in my combo were all excellent. Eventually the bar area started to fill, which put some pressure on the wait staff, but she was still pretty attentive and helpful!
