My dad was craving sandwiches for a quick lunch so I thought it was finally time to check out Winton Deli. This deli is hidden in the industrial part of Hayward so it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. It looks like their main customer base would be people who work around here anyways. Tip for anyone who uses google maps to get here from Hesperian: you don't have to go around all the lefts/rights they tell you. Just keep going down Winton until you eventually turn left into the lot. The deli itself is super spacious. There's a coffee counter in the middle but it wasn't open when I stopped by around lunch and truthfully, it looks like it hasn't been open in a long time. There's tons of inside seating for anyone who might want to dine-in. You'll order at one "window" then pay at the end of the counter and you can pick up a drink and chips on the way. The menu is displayed behind the counter, but it was sort of hard to read (and kinda dirty). They also have a menu printed out at the register. I went with the Southwestern Chipotle Pesto Chicken (chicken breast, melted provolone, tomato, lettuce) and I got it on a dutch crunch instead of the sourdough roll. It was a good sandwich with fresh flavor, though I wasn't really getting much pesto or much chipotle. I also wish there was more meat... or at least more evenly distributed meat. As far as portions go, this isn't the biggest sandwich. It was enough to be satisfied, though, so maybe that's all you need! Prices are not too bad at about $8-9 per sandwich. I'd still return and next time I'll try a different sandwich!

The sandwiches were very underwhelming. Maybe it's just me but when I think of deli I am expecting MEAT! The three sandwiches I tried all had one layer of meat. Even though the bread was fresh, it was too much bread compared to the meat that was provided. The ratio was off. The plus side is that the sauce in the Ensenada Sandwich was really good. That was all.

A simple fresh tasting meal I had today, at a great price point. Beef & barley soup was really good! Will be comming back!

Love this place! Been here three days in a row. I'm lucky because it is on the way to work. Skip the terrible breakfast at the hotel, and stop here for anything on the menu. My first time I had the Del Mar Veggie Sandwich; avocado, cucumber, cream cheese, sprouts, tomato, onions, on sliced wheat. Still my favorite sandwich. Second time I had the Pesto Veggie Sandwich; pesto sauce, fresh spinach, avocado, tomato, provolone cheese, Hold the Mayo on toasted sour four. Third time I had the Santa Cruz Veggie sandwich; avocado, mushroom, Monterey and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato, on marble rye bread. Had the vegetable beef soup on the side. The food is fresh and great. A+++

Came here with a colleague for a quick bite as it is the go to place for sandwiches. The Del Mar and Santa Cruz sandwiches are delicious. The bread is extremely soft to where it almost melts as you take a bite. The veggies are fresh and the Tri Tip Sandwich on Thursday's are supposed to be amazing. The side pickle is also packed with flavor...can it be bigger? I do wish they served the sandwiches on paper plates instead of the to go plastic containers. Seems like so much waste. But I did see an employee taking them out of the recycling bin. Let's just hope he was taking them out to make more room and not to wash and reuse them.

My fiancé recommended this restaurant. He ate here yesterday and really enjoyed his food. He got the veggie pesto. So today I went on yelp and ordered, which is always easy and convenient to do; I, too, ordered the veggie pesto. As I arrived, the first thing I noticed was the cleanliness; which was very clean and open. The customer service was very pleasant! Smiles, attentive, and polite. Walked in and out within 2 mins! The veggie pesto was very yummy!! Perfectly toasted sour dough, plenty of spinach, and not messy. I really enjoyed my food and would definitely return.

Parking is always tight in this plaza, but I got lucky on a Saturday afternoon. Bara's was poppin when I walked in. Ordering is quick, the menu is extensive, but the man taking my order was so patient. I went with their Bara's combo special with all the fixin's and had to get their dutch crutch. I love that you can choose the bread, and the Bara's combo is great since you can choose your meat/proteins. Turkey and roast beef were juicy and flavorful. Plus their meats are all halal! Every single ingredient was fresh and high quality. The flavors were unmatched. And the bread was perfectly airy and crunchy, without scraping my entire roof of my mouth. It's embarassing I used to get Ike's when there's sandwich spots like Bara's. They have a whole drinks section, chips, and an open deli display case. There's tons of inside seating, great for coworkers, families, or solo dining. No outdoor seating unfortunately. Most of the waiting time is after you order, so allot a solid 15mins, even if you're just waiting for your one order. Bara's is also Palestinian-owned. So not only are you getting a delicious, HUGE portion'd, but fresh meal, you are also knowingly pouring your hard earned money and labor into supporting a local family-owned business. Everything we do has a footprint, including the businesses you choose to support and eat at. Go forth Bara's!

We noticed two self-service ordering kiosks to the right but decided to check out the menu board and salad case first. When we were done, the cashier asked if she could take our order. That's always my preference over poking buttons on a impersonal screen. We placed our order, paid, and stood aside to wait. My name was called when our order was ready. It was bagged and ready to go. We thanked the cashier and went home. Normally, I'm not a sandwich guy. Today, after working outside in the sun, I was hungry and had a craving for something filling and cold. Macaroni Salad was on my mind. I looked that up on Yelp and Bara's was reasonably close. I also saw a Shrimp Salad that looked pretty good online. When we arrived home, I proceeded to take pictures of our meal. Sigh. Instead of Macaroni Salad, we got Potato Salad. Not quite the same. A quick peek at my receipt and I saw that the wrong key must have been pressed. I should have checked my receipt after I paid. The cashier should have repeated the order before sending it. The Potato Salad didn't satisfy my craving for Macaroni Salad, but I wasn't about to drive back to exchange it. The flavor was unique though, in that it had a cheesy flavor. The Shrimp Salad was not good. Flavor wise, it was okay with a little bit of heat. But texture wise, it was a mess. If Shrimp was supposed to be cooked for two minutes and then dropped into an ice bath, these had been cooked for four minutes and not iced. They were cooked to death. I got a Bay Area Special with Swiss. It was okay. A ton of meat, not so much on the veg. I would prefer more balance. But overall, it was pretty good. She got The Gobbler. She also felt that the meat overwhelmed the veg. Additionally, the cranberry sauce was overwhelmed by the cream cheese. We came, we saw, we ate. It'll be a long while before I go after another sandwich.

I walked into this deli today hungry and wanting something very simple: a turkey sandwich on whole wheat. Instead of being greeted by a person behind the counter, I was directed to a kiosk. The kiosk was surprisingly limited and frustrating to use. I could not find an option for a basic turkey sandwich without scrolling through a long list of pre-built combinations that did not work for me. There was no easy way to customize and no visible option to simply order something straightforward. What made it worse was the complete absence of human interaction. There was no opportunity to ask a question or clarify an order. It felt transactional in the worst way. I was not alone. The couple next to me also gave up and left without ordering. We all walked out without ever speaking to a single person. If you are going to replace staff with kiosks, at least make the system intuitive and flexible. Sometimes people just want a simple sandwich and a quick, human exchange. I ended up leaving hungry and disappointed..

I ordered a tuna sandwich with everything on Dutch crunch bread, along with some Harvest Cheddar SunChips and a Strawberry Kiwi Snapple. Let me tell you--the sandwich was excellent. The tuna tasted fresh, the lettuce and tomatoes were crisp, and that Dutch crunch bread brought it all together. Every bite was on point. Easily one of the best deli sandwiches I've had, especially from an independently owned spot. The place itself has a great old-school vibe. Lots of photos on the walls and even some Raiders memorabilia, which gives it a real local feel. When I got there, there were a few people ahead of me, so I waited about 10-15 minutes, but it was worth it. You can tell they're making everything fresh. I've tried a few over the years, but next time I might go for something like the Chicago-style meatball sandwich.
