Pork steak!

I cannot say enough good things about this place! You can tell these guys REALLY LOVE MEAT! They honor the meat. This has to be on your "must try" list. Even their cheeseburger was great!! Jermaine, (shoutout!) was awesome, personality for miles!

Nice pit

Great flavored smoked meat, but other than the excellent white chicken chili... the other sides leave me wanting more of the meat & chili was my impression of this BBQ pit tent with no seating next to a Pink Elephant & gas station. Two brothers were there running the business. The quality shows the guys really care about the smoked meat. Even the name emphasises the idea about knowing about real smoking because you are suppose to be able to pick bones & not have meat "fall of the bone". http://www.amazingribs.com/tips_and_technique/are_they_ready.html I ate this two days in a row. The first day was the pulled pork & the amount & flavor was great. The cole slaw & beans both tasted store bought. The second day I ordered the St Louis tradition Pork Steak. BUT, this was not the traditional Pork Steak. This was a thick cut & smoked variety that had a personality unlike off a normal backyard BBQ grill. While I missed the seared grill flavor, the tenderness & smoke flavor of their version had me in awe of the skillz. I was able to pull the pork apart with a plastic fork yet was not overcooked. Again, I was highly impressed by the amount of meat for the price. I, myself, went to order for the second lunch. I am glad because I saw "white chicken chili". When I said something about it... The guy in an apologetic tone stated he knows that chili does not belong in a smoke house. However, he agreed to offer it because his wife won an award for it. SERIOUSLY, F tradition & get the chili. I, also, had the mustard based potato salad that visit & it was nothing great. The two brothers know smoking meat & saying yes when a wife is right. Now they need help with the other sides.

Pulled pork sandwich on the left (with enough pork for three sandwiches) and 1/2 chicken on the right.

We've gotten food from here twice, after hearing folks raving about it. We were not disappointed. First time, I got ribs. DH got pulled pork and a burger. The ribs were fantastic. Hands down, great. DH said the burger was nothing special, but, he loved the pulled pork. This time, he got pulled pork again and I got the 1/2 chicken. Again, everything tender and moist. We're big fans. Can't wait to be able to try the chili one day, too (it's seasonal).

Pork steak. Very tender.

I was there and had a porksteak burger. It was AMAZING. You could tatse the smoke and flavors and it was tender..Besides a good BBQ sauce which they. make in house you don't really need anything else on it. Yes it's that good. We also had the brisket philly. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Great service, AMAZING food, we will be back..

The Good: The Brisket burnt ends were very good with good flavor. The service was very good and the food was delivered very quickly. But that's the extent of the good.... The Bad: The "Pork Steak Burger" was a major disappointment. It was served with nothing on the bun. No Onion...No Pickle...No lettuce...Nothing. Dry ground meat on a cheap hamburger bun. The burger did not have the flavor or moistness of a pork steak. It is pork run through a meat grinder with no seasoning added. VERY Bland...and at $7 was overpriced. I was amazed that there were NO Pork Steaks on the menu...! That is a fatal flaw that will prevent us from ever returning. The slaw was flavorless with too much vinegar and large chunks of cabbage that should have been ground or cut into smaller pieces. It was closer to a cabbage salad with vinegar dressing than traditional "slaw". My wife could not eat more than 1/4th of her serving due to the taste. The sides were substantially more expensive than the local BBQ competition. Standard sides like potato salad/beans/ slaw were all $3 for an average serving. Sides at competitive BBQ in the area are $1.89-$1.99 for better tasting food. A slab of ribs with (2) sides was $24. A slab with (3) sides at the competition is $2 cheaper. The only water they offer is bottled water for $1 a bottle. The BBQ sauce is served in bottles that have no labels. You have no idea what you are getting. They need to install a fly trap. We had pesky fly's competing with us for our meal throughout dinner. If you want excellent BBQ...Including Pork Steaks...Caledonia BBQ, Bailey Jo's in Ironton and Dexter BBQ are ALL better BBQ and more reasonably priced. When the new Sugar Fire BBQ opens in Farmington I will be surprised if Big Dick's in Farmington is still open a year from now.

This restaurant is easy to get too, has adequate parking and the restaurant itself is casual and inviting. The staff welcomed us and were very friendly and attentive. Our young waiter was especially helpful with the menu. The food came quickly and was good. Unfortunately, not great. My wife and I both got the trio of meats, brisket, pulled pork and chicken. All were cooked well but under smoked for my liking. The sides we tried were all fresh but again, just good not great. We will try Gastropit again but honestly have had better tasting barbecue at nearby competitors. I know it is relatively new to the scene so overall, it was a good experience!

Cocktails for the night featured a classic old fashion, not the one on the menu. Really well executed with Knob Creek rye. Also had a special Paloma which was tasty and perfect for a summer evening. Dinner included: - Cuban with fries. The missed orders this and she called it one of the best in town. 4.25 - small barbecue salad with pulled pork. This dish, priced at something like $8, is a nice "lightish" meal. Ordered fries because I can't help myself. Salad and fries: 4.25 each.

Slaw, ribs, burnt ends, brisket, pork, beans and garlic toast! Restaurant clean with cool options on tables to add bbq sauces.

You know, maybe it's just a Bandana's thing - and I just don't like it…read more Bandana's is a BBQ restaurant like someone that knows BBQ well tried explaining it to a tribesman in a South American rainforest and him opening up a restaurant. It's just not really a real BBQ place. I understand that a lot of people like it, and more power to them. But it's just not our style. Often the brisket has a lot of fat. And not the good rendered fat, just plain old fat. I've more than a few times experienced that there is little to no bark on the meat. I'm a big fan of ribs and these I find disappointing. They almost always lack in flavour. If they don't taste great plain, with nothing on them, simply smoked, then having to doctor them up with sauces to make up for it is just not the way it should be done. The Cole slaw....man.....it all depends on where in the Cole slaw bucket they are at because sometimes it can be the nice Cole slaw they have, other times they are scraping the bottom of the barrel and what you get is a sloppy wet mess of grated cabbage. Can't even say it feels like a good ol' BBQ atmosphere. The potato salad at Bandana's has always been nice, the employees, for the most part, at this location have been attentive and friendly. We've given Bandana's quite a few visits, this location a good 3 to 4 times, but I think this last visit will be just that - our last visit. In this town there are just too many other choices for BBQ. Sorry Bandana's, we've given you more than a fair chance!
