We stumbled upon Piccolo while down by the water and were so glad we did. We originally stopped in just for coffee, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I had a latte and Ray ordered a white chocolate mocha--both were excellent. You could immediately tell there was real intention and care put into their coffee service. We also grabbed some biscotti, which were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and authentic, and everyone there was friendly and welcoming. Although it was too early for us to eat, their Italian menu looked fantastic and very authentic--definitely a place we want to come back to for a full meal. Raul took great care of us and was incredibly sweet. We also enjoyed sitting by the water and chatting with the harbor master, which made the stop even more memorable. Piccolo is definitely off the beaten path, tucked down near the harbor, and that's part of what makes it special. A great stop, great coffee, and wonderful people. Shout-out to Raul--we'll be back.

Came with a friend for lunch this afternoon! I would like to submit that this was probably the most perfect sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. I ordered the roast beef Panini with no sun-dried tomatoes and no onions. It comes with chopped giardinera (the Italian pickled vegetables) which makes a stunning addition to this delicious thinly sliced rare roast beef and arugula. It's served on a very very crispy. Panini roll with cheese. Just absolutely the perfect bite! I could only eat half and I am just now eating the other half for dinner and enjoying it just as much! It comes with the side salad, which is equally delicious, dressed with "continental" a very tasty and light Italian dressing with bits of blue cheese. It's light and contains pickled red onions and pickled carrots as well just delicious. This is a side salad. You will want to eat all of. This is probably the best place to eat lunch in the area and sitting outside looking at the boats, and the birds is a very pleasant experience.

We were just walking by and saw this little place and decided to give it a shot for a little snack. Very simple and coastal theme with some local art for sale on the walls. It was nice and quiet but a little on the warm and stuffy side for such a pleasant day. The staff was nice and helpful and made us some recommendations. We were a little disappointed for having such an impressive and authentic menu the only tea they had was Lipton but it is what it is. We got our food and sat on the patio, which is open and is pleasant enough. It could use some shade, and the seating is behind the breakwater so not breathtaking views but we had a nice lunch there! The food was simple and solid but nothing earthshaking. The Caprese was about as good as a Caprese could be, the sandwich had EXCELLENT bread but the filling with the ribs and pecorino was a bit of a miss. Not sure how I'd make it better, I think it lies in the sauce itself. Either way. Not bad! The side salad was typical Italian side salad, meaning basically carrots, lettuce, pickled onions, and blue cheese, no dressing or oil to speak of. Would be nice to get a little oil or something. Either way we would definitely come back, check it out if you're in the area! Or on a walk.

Special salad: crunchy arugula with crazy cheese stuffed date wrapped in bacon. Chef "whipped it together this morning". AMAZING

They have their own parking spots! Order at the counter. The chef came out both times we visited and told us the specials, and pointed to the pot of sauce stewing all day in the open kitchen. A lot of love and care goes into the food. We ordered all the specials. Baked ziti with special sauce. The owner explained and called out, "Hey Giuseppe, do we have any sauce left?" Crazy personal service. So good. Also got special salad, with dates stuffed with ricotta and wrapped with bacon. I asked the server how it was prepared, and he didn't know cause chef just threw it together that morning! Wow, like we were house guests... Dessert, same thing. Tiramisu, but they had to check if they had enough. No problem they'll make one and chill it. Should be cold enough by the time we eat our entrees. Highly recommend this place for a personable experience. They'll talk to you, and make sure everything is good,

We tried the Al Pollo Panini and Pinsa Diavola which were both really good. Food came out fast and fresh! Very helpful staff who gave us some recommendations. The environment was inviting and cozy. You get to chose your owns seats as well. Overall good experience!

Piccolo has the magical trifecta of good food, good service, and good ambiance. You can't beat munching on pizza or paninis overlooking the water with sea lions barking in the distance. It's a little slice of charm and comfort. And don't sleep on the soup, you'll need two bowls of it!

My son and I are here at Piccolo this afternoon, on this wet and rainy day. We had the panini sandwiches - him, the Cuban, and me, the Vegetariano. Both were hot and toasty, with the perfect amount of crunch and the perfect amount of filling. The side salads, with dark greens, pickled onion, and blue cheese crumbles, with a vinaigrette provided just the right amount of acidity to complete the meal. My son had a Semifreddo Al Limone for dessert, which he described as similar to a custard. See photo. Piccolo does not disappoint! You will be glad you made your way down to the Coast Guard Pier. Parking is a breeze with ParkMobile (app download is quick and easy).

Mauricio is the owner of Piccolo (downstairs) and Osteria al Mare (upstairs). As Piccolo is new and Mauricio is focusing on this new business and I'm on a budget, I went to Piccolo for the first time. Started with the meatballs. I found the meatballs tender and on flavor more subtle than I wanted. The bread crispness on the outside and softness on the inside reminded me of Parisian bread. Delish. I love garlic. The more the merrier. The garlic was too light for me. However, most people would love it. Caesar salad was the best on the peninsula. What made it unique was the pickled onions. Dessert was a pistachio, ladyfinger, lemon curd and ice cream delight. Omg, this could be one of my dessert destinations! Buena Sera!

Was in the area and stopped in to check out Piccolo. Too late for lunch and too early for dinner so we ordered coffees and biscotti. Lovely venue overlooking the harbor. Ryan was particularly helpful telling us about the area and the Pacific Grove Farmers Market open on Mondays. Good information for future visits. Next time we will visit at lunch time. The menu looks wonderful.

Super friendly service and a great little spot. You can sit outside by the water or inside. I got a vegetarians sandwich to go. The bread was perfect! It was soft and fresh and fluffy. All the flavors for the sandwich were great. The eggplant was seasoned well and I loved that it had artichoke. I just wish it had more veggies inside and as always, more cheese.

We have been to Piccolo's several times now and it's consistently good for the most part. It smells delicious when you walk in there. They have a nice extensive Panini menu and also their PINSA. They are owned by the same people that own the seafood restaurant upstairs, which is also very good. We went in on a busy Sunday afternoon and the hubby got the Cubano Panini, which was $21 and I got the chicken PINSA. Mine was 20 something dollars too. The Cubano was mediocre at Best. Very thin sandwich and it wasn't from the Panini press and it didn't have the flavors that we've come to love a good Cubano sandwich. Definitely not a good value for that price for a sandwich. I got the best thing I think I've ever had from there. Fresh baked pizza or PINSA if they call it with tender juicy chicken bits, Gorgonzola cheese, Gorgonzola cream sauce, basil, and then topped with the arugula so simple but so good. Highly recommended it was way more than enough for one person and actually we took the leftovers home and we still had enough leftover for dinner. One of the reasons we're willing to pay as much as they charge for their food which I do think is overpriced as they have amazing outdoor seating that has a beautiful view of the Coast Guard pier, and all the boats coming in and coming out and all the fisherman, pulling in the rigs and offloading them back into the water. It's really really fun.

Excellent lunch stop. A little pricey but the sandwiches are huge and come with a side salad. They also have peroni on tap and great outdoor seating! The pistachio mortadella sandwich stole the show over the Rueben! It has so much flavor! Highly recommend. Big shout out to the staff who was so friendly and treated us with big smiles and hellos.

Fantastic Italian spot with amazing views of the harbor. The margherita pizza was fresh and flavorful, and the prosciutto sandwich was absolutely delicious. DUDE I had the BEST sand which of my entire life at this restaurant!! Tri tip mash potatoes!! He explained the process to me about how he makes them and sold me quick. The food matched the hype and it's right on the water. I ate before kayaking next door. I really hope this place can do well and the word can spread. read more

Oh my! This is my new favorite restaurant! My boyfriend and I had the special focaccia bread sandwiches. They were out of this world delicious -fresh, crunchy, and warm. The accompanying salad was excellent - fresh, crispy, and delightful. Maurizio, the owner is friendly, positive, and helpful. His big smile welcomed us in, and we were impressed by his engaging personality, staff, and wonderful cuisine. Came to Piccolo to check out their menu. As I watched some Amazing food pass me by I was excited to try out one of their sandwiches. Spoke to the Owner, Mauricio who is Super nice and such a happy person. He made me one of the best paninis ever. And I don't usually like paninis as they can tend to be hard. Awesome! Then went back and tried their pizza. Super good!! They have a very nice outdoor seating area that overlooks the docs. They also have a nice area indoor that you can hold large parties. read more

I loved the service here! There was a very friendly, very Italian, guy who took our orders. I came here with a couple friends visiting the area and it was the perfect spot for lunch with a great view of the ocean/bay. I had the pinsa? We were in Monterey for a family trip, and just before heading to the airport wanted to squeeze in some last minute seal watching at San Carlos Beach (the very best place to do it, if you're wondering). At the same time we also needed to grab lunch, so I had Yelped and found Piccolo which looked promising with rave reviews and it is right by the beach. Those reviews do not lie -- this was a FANTASTIC meal, and we had a group of 7 adults and a toddler, all with widely varied preferences (1 vegan, and the rest with a variety of other preferences). We kind of covered a lot of the menu with our orders (just the roast beef sandwich was ordered twice) and everyone was raving about their food. My husband said he wished we could have gone back again, which is high praise. I arrived about 2:20 pm to place our order, with other guests there and some who came in after me, and told the owner that we needed it to go because we had to leave to catch a flight within 20 minutes. That's a tall order for a larger group, and I didn't even know their sandwiches are paninied and need to be grilled. (Maybe they aren't always? He did say he was running low on his fresh baked bread so he subbed ciabatta.). But he said he could do it, grabbed employees, and they busted our sandwiches out. I'm not sure what the sandwiches would have been like on the fresh baked bread, but the paninis we got were absolutely fire. We ate them mostly on the drive to the airport and while there, but they were amazing. I was the vegan who got the vegetariano with no cheese, and it was a flavor bomb. Everyone else raved about theirs as well. They also come with side salads which was a pleasant surprise. If you don't want sandwiches, I saw some delicious-looking (non-vegan) pizzas being cooked while I was there and they have soups, etc as well. If you're on the fence, do not hesitate to go. read more

This place is a hidden GEM! I've already been here at least 5 times since they opened. You walk in to the owner greeting you with a "buongiorno"!! They always have the most amazing specials and the passion the owner has when telling you about the menu is for good reason! 100/10!!! Came here on a whim while walking to the wharf from pacific grove. SO glad we stopped. Fresh ingredients, cohesive dishes, and thoughtful & kind staff! The sandwich pictured had some of the best prosciutto I've ever had!! We also got to meet the owner- such a cool guy!!! Great ambiance, right on the water. Our first trip to Puccolo, and already planning a second. The food is fantastic! My wife and I h ad the meatballs and a Cubano, which the came highly recommend and did NOT disappoint!! The former Pig Wizard location is now an Italian sandwich shop. Owned by the same owner as the upstairs Italian restaurant, this location has amazing paninis and sandwiches. We came here and the owner is so nice and accommodating. He is so passionate about his food and can pretty much make you any sandwich combination you want. I believe he makes the bread in-house and some of the meat like the roast beef. I have come back twice and ordered the Cuban, a specialty Italian sandwich with mortadella, prosciutto, pesto, onions and arugula, and I got the special which was similar to a mufflaleta. All the sandwiches I've ordered have been excellent. It is a little pricey, but I believe these are quality items and ingredients and I'm happy to support such a nice owner. Parking isn't too bad if you're lucky to get a spot right in front otherwise you'll have to pay for parking since this is where all the scuba divers park to go scuba diving at San Carlos Beach. It's a very spacious restaurant and you have your own private patio on the wharf to overlook the water. He also let us try a homemade soup that was similar to minestrone and it was so flavorful and delicious. Happy to continue to patronize this place and try some of his new specials. read more

This is a great place to grab some sandwiches. Everything is well made and tastes fresh. I especially enjoyed the meatballs with the focaccia on the side. Piccolo seems to be a hidden gem, right on the waterfront with beautiful patio outdoor seating. The owner was very nice, from Italy, and had great knowledge of his menu, including the homemade bread that they had made fresh just that morning. The focaccia vegetarian sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. The pizza was very good as well, and the side salad that did come with the sandwich was also excellent. Made me feel like I was back in Italy, that's how good the food was, and the quality of ingredients was clearly impeccable, would definitely come back if I had the chance read more

Oh my gosh! I had the best afternoon at Piccolo! Service was amazing, food was incredible (Cubano and Chowder), but the best is the interaction with the chef, Raul! I loved talking to him about the way he loves his job, infusing his love for his craft with the delicious creations he makes. He let me taste the Chowder which is always part of my quest for perfection. He won me over. And his pulled pork was sublime. Thank you, Raul! You are the best. We are from Texas and enjoyed our time as usual in Northern California, but what on earth? This Piccolo establishment was absolutely perfection for lunch. We sat by the water and delighted in the crunchy outside of the focaccia, but airy and soft inside of the bread. THIS is how you do it. The ingredients were so very fresh. The side salad was ...out of this world. The dressing so very very fresh, light, refreshing and perfection. There was a family from Italy sitting next to us raving about their meal. This is a must stop if you're finding a place to have lunch next to the Aquarium or any time. AND THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PARKING!!!!! What is not to love! read more

Absolutely delicious! We saw Piccolo was open and delighted to see it was Mauricio, the owner of Osteria Al Mare, the restaurant upstairs. We knew we were in for a delicious lunch. We tried the Cubano sandwich, which was a perfect Cubano with great ratio of meats, this came with a lovely soup of the day, a tomato veggie soup, delicious. We also had the prosciutto panning, which was also out of this world and came with a fresh salad delicately dressed with oil and vinegar, a perfect accompaniment. We enjoyed it and can't wait to come back when we aren't going for a meal at Osteria...this just makes the choice hard...upstairs or downstairs, you can't go wrong! read more

What a welcome addition to the Coast Guard pier! Located in the old Pig Wizard location, they've got great Panini's salads, desserts, and wine. I especially appreciate the shaded outdoor patio in the afternoon for working on screens. If you prefer sun, the deck at the edge of the water is in the sun. Just grab a Panini and some house, wine, and hang out Watching the birds in the boats in the gentle Monterey Bay breeze. read more
