Love their carne asada burrito! It reminds me of the burritos I used to get in California. This is the only thing that I have ever ordered from here, though I always think that I should try something different because everything on their menu looks so good and so authentic. The only reason Picante's isn't getting 5 stars from me is because their parking lot can be a bear for me to get my minivan into, especially when they are busy. I've never actually set food in Picantes, but I've had their breakfast burritos at least half a dozen times in the last few months when my co-workers have brought them. I've had them with bacon, sausage, and chorizo and all 3 have been very good and the quality is always consistent. Mmmm, delicious food, low prices and great, friendly service! True, the parking lot is a bit crowded and the interior won't win any prizes for looks, but the chips were hot and fresh and the salsa was spot on, plenty of kick without being so hot that it ruins the rest of your meal. The chicken enchiladas were the best we've had in Lubbock (and we've tried a lot of the Mexican restaurants) and the tacos were delicious as well, because the meat was moist and well seasoned. Even though we went a little after the lunch rush hour, at around 2pm, everything was still so FRESH - the refried beans weren't greasy or gelatinous and the rice wasn't gummy or hard like it'd been sitting around half the day - always a plus in my book. It's just an OK place. Not bad, but nothing to brag about. The tortillas come barely warm. The chilaquiles are soggy. Potatoes undercooked. For everyone who is not from Mexico (Mexican-American does not count), if it has cheddar cheese, it's not authentic. read more

Honestly this is in the top two best Mexican food I have ever had! The food is absolutely delicious and about as authentic as you will find! Do not judge a book by its cover, the outside is not beautiful nor well decorated nor is the inside but your normal authentic Mexican restaurants are not going to be super ornate of decorated with high end decorations (that is to please the American customer base)... This place is what a real Mexican restaurant looks like and has the amazing mouthwatering food to back it up! I 100% recommend this place! Good food I really liked the tacos, however the portion size for the appetizers (guacamole and queso) was extremely small and then they charged me 4.25 for EACH! Told the staff and they argued with me that the portion size was fine when it clearly was not. The service was shoddy and we didn't get any refills, had to go up to the front and specifically ask for my check and they also charge you a dollar for to go cups. In my opinion this isn't a college friendly restaurant since they charge you 4.25 for two tiny scoops of guacamole. read more

OMG! We had chorizo and eggs on the brain. This place came up when I yelped it. It did not disappoint! The setting wad huge, and the food was delicious! Add to that, the atmosphere, it's like you just stepped off the street in Mexico! There were many servers working, so all the tables were getting taken care of. Our server was very friendly and quite efficient. All in all, a wonderful experience! I would recommend this place to anyone. Especially, people who like their Mexican food with some kick! This is a classic small Mexican restaurant with virtually no ambiance and absolutely scrumptious food. We went here for lunch and the place was packed with locals and college students, both of which we took to be good signs. The staff are very friendly and the service was very fast. The al pastor platos was spicy and very tender and the portion size was enormous. My wife's supreme burrito was covered with a thick, rich queso. The salsa had just a bit of a bite and the chips were fresh and thin. Definitely one of the best Mexican meals we have eaten in quite a while. read more
