This is a Peruvian restaurant just down the street from the Kaiser Permanente Ontario. The restaurant is smaller but can accommodate larger groups. The dining area is a very clean and comfortable. Once seated, an aji verde salsa and cancha was brought to the table. The cancha is a nice touch, the corn is crispy and light. I ordered the Pollo Saltado with an extra portion of rice and a Chicha Morada. The beverage was very refreshing. The meal came out quickly. The chicken was tender and well seasoned with soy without being too salty. There was a fair amount of onions and tomatoes which were stir-fried along with the meat. The fries were freshly made with a light crispy exterior and creamy interior to soak up the saltado sauce. The aji verde salsa was on the spicy side but tasted good as an accompaniment to the dish. There was plenty of sauce from the stir fry for the extra portion of rice I ordered. I plan on ordering the Lomo Saltado next time. The staff were polite and efficient. We got the Combo marino- ceviche was good, fish in the middle tray was amazing, the rice was really good too. Lomo saltado- my girl said it was real good Chaufa taypa- i loved it. Better than any other place I have tried this dish at. Perfect blend of each ingredient. The sweet then spicy chiles that come on the side compliment this meal. Add the green sauce they serve and you have a fire worth fighting. I definitely recommend this dish if you stop by here. Tallarin verde con lomo- the lomo was delicious but the pasta was a little too harsh on the pesto. Still good though. Menu is limited but if you're into lomo you should give this place a try. Food: I order the tallarin saltado de carne & the lomo saltado. These 2 dishes are soooo bomb! The meat is super tender, flavorful, and juicy, literally cooked to perfection. The noodles are on point & flavorful, perfectly seasoned. I have tried their 2 agua frescas, chicha morado & maracuya drink. They have a perfect sweetness. The green sauce they give for the food is super good, spicy but an addicting flavorful spice. Service: The staff are awesome & super nice! On our way home from an event, had a long drive, we were starving, yelped restaurants... this one came up... hmmm Peruvian food sounds great! The place is small, but full, they tell us we have to wait about 30 mins, they call us in about 15 mins later, wonderful! Love it when we get called before the expected time. We all got Lomo Salgado with either rice or linguine, because apparently that's what we were all craving. For appetizer we got papa à la huancaina, delicious and settled our hunger a bit. Food took some time, but don't mind if the food comes out hot... which it did! Yay! We all loved it, the green salsa was spicy and yummy and added so much flavor to our dishes. If you want authentic, made to order Peruvian place you must try Picante. Its a little hole in the wall, but when you walk inside your welcomed with friendliness and simplicity. I typically go for the lomo saltado with plantains, yucca, and I get their little cookies to go. They do have a ceviche trio plate this is a burst of freshness in your mouth. Tellarin Verde con Lomo - the star of the show. First of all, the steak was packed with wok hey. You could really taste the smokiness, which is key, in my opinion. Onions and peppers were equally cooked well. The linguine with the pesto was chef's kiss. The pesto sauce was just right. Balanced and paired perfectly with the lomo. I so much prefer this to the fries. The aji verde sauce had a nice citrusy punch with good heat. The spiciness doesn't linger, which is perfect. Really acts as the perfect brightness to cut through the rich meat and starch. Defiantly my new go-to Peruvian spot going forward. This spot is honestly some of the best Peruvian food I've ever had. My girl ordered their pesto pasta with steak and I ordered the steak. Everything was so delicious. Tallarin Saltado de pollo, linguine pasta with sautéed chicken, red onions, tomato, cilantro, green onions and in a delicious garlic and oyster sauce. The combination is heavenly. Tallarin Verde con Lomo, is the same , but served with beef instead of chicken over green pasta . Oh, so, good. Lomo A La Huancaina, linguine pasta cooked in a Huancaina sauce (like melted cheese), with tender cuts of delicious Lomo Saltado beef. This too was Devine. It's been a while since we had good Peruvian food . One of our chef friends recommended Picante to us. They open at 10:30am. We didn't have breakfast so we were pretty hungry by the time we arrived at 11am. The interior is simple and quaint with cool murals on the wall when you enter. We shared the Anticuchos de corazon to start. It was my first time having it but with the way the season and grill it, I just thought it was steak . We both got our "go to" Peruvian dishes; Lomo Saltado for me and Tallarin Verde con Lomo for my husband . We ate every last bit of our food, so delicious. Service was also super friendly. Thanks for the free purple drink. Hello yelpers, lived here since 2017 and I've always wanted to try this place and I'm glad I finally did. My friends came down from Philly so it was the perfect opportunity so we ordered over $100 worth of food to go. Since I had to wait a little longer than expected I was offered a drink on the house. We ordered chaufa de pollo, lomo saltado, yuca con huancaina, empanada pollo, empanada carne, aji de gallina, and aji verde. The chaufa de pollo is basically a Peruvian version of fried rice, they have no making fried rice this delicious, seriously tasted better than Thai Chinese fried rice. Bomb. Lomo saltado is probably what they're known for, basically a Peruvian version of Vietnamese shaken beef, that too was freaking awesome. The beef was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Just wow. Empanadas 10/10. The green sauce the aji verde is spicy so be careful, my buddies ate it and they looked like they were sunburned instantly. They're white lol. Our least favorite dish was the Ali de gallina, their version of curry. I was expecting something like Thai curry but it ended up being super cheesy, something I'm not used to. Anyway, is you're in the Ontario area or just got discharged from kaiser Ontario, come give this place a try. I promise you won't regret it. 10/10 service 10/10 food. Delicious! Sabrosisimo! My friend and I were looking for new food to try. Months ago we saw Picante on Yelp but the pictures of the menu at the time left us underwhelmed. The pictures now are so much better! It's a cozy location with vibrant art on the walls, tables along one wall. The staff, especially George were so kind; offering suggestions as we'd never had Peruvian food. The suggestions were fantastic! I won't tell you what they were so that you're open to all of it but everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing and the portions are generous! The wait time was 45 minutes and I thought, "Okay, this food better change my life or at least buy me flowers." But baby... when I tell you that food BLEW ME THROUGH THE ROOF? I'm not exaggerating -- I had a spiritual moment at the table. Came to Picante on a Thursday night for take out, plenty of parking, there's inside and outside seating; they do online orders as well! We ordered the Tallarin Verde Lomo (pesto), Tallarin a Huancaina and the 3 appetizer sampler which contained a large portion of ceviche, arroz chaufa con mariscos (seafood rice) and chicharron de pescado (fried fish). Portions are generous! Personally I was able to eat my Huancaina pasta for two meals because of the amount of noodles and meat they provided. I was worried about the size of the meat chunks possibly becoming dry but even the smallest pieces were juicy and paired wonderfully with the green sauce they provide (they gave us so much sauce I was able to have extra to dip with other foods). The pesto was a solid dish, but I really liked my Huancaina pasta, the sauce was absolutely delicious and cheesy and the tomatoes and onions with the steak went really well together. The chicharron was soft by the time we brought it home, but it was really delicious with the tartar sauce and onion salsa--I'm sure it's even more delectable when it maintains the crisp. Fried rice portion was generous and had a beautiful smoky flavor from the wok. We appreciated the generous portion of ceviche with plenty of the fish which was tender and perfectly chewy, loved the crunchy nut kernals that complimented the dish really well. The sweet potato and peruvian corn were so good too. Honestly the best Peruvian food I've had thus far (I've only had a few chances but this one definitely takes #1 for me!). Others in our party ordered the lomo saltado & my dad got the lamb shank and I love the pasta with the yellow sauce & beef. Omg, the first bite & I was in love! So flavorful & the beef was cooked perfectly and that creamy yellow sauce pasta was to die for! I was hooked! The dining room isn't that big but it is always packed. Now I know why!
