    After the move

Robert responded very quickly to my message on Thumbtack and provided an estimate as soon as I gave him the details. We set a date, and everything worked more smoothly than I would ever have imagined. The movers were totally professional and friendly, even repaired one the piano legs as they were reassembling it, and efficient. I am so happy with their work, and I recommend them in the highest possible terms!

A plus. These guys were prompt, careful and honest. We had a complicated move involving two uprights and a second floor sliding glass door. They were one of the few movers who would take this on and we were very happy to find them. Would recommend them for anyone looking to move a piano. They wore masks and were courteous.

This is a FANTASTIC company - easy process, responsive, professional, and efficient! Robert and his crew arrived on time and first assessed the situation. The Yamaha baby grand piano was in my 92 year old mother's house, and complicating the situation was my mother's stair chair which partially obstructed their path down the stairs to the front door. I wasn't sure it would be possible, but after measuring, they found they had 2 inches to spare if they didn't use their stair ramp. Without a ramp, though, the task was exponentially more difficult because they would need to *hand-carry* it down the stairs. Other movers would have walked away at that point, but confident it could be done, they wrapped it and took their time to ensure its safe passage. Not only were they were very gentle with the piano, but they were also patient with my mom's many questions and stories she wanted to share about the piano. After loading it on the truck, she asked if they could also move the upright piano from the lower level to the second level. That took me by surprise and I felt a little sheepish because it wasn't included in the estimate, nor was I sure they'd the time (or energy) to do it. They agreed and again were extremely careful. I highly recommend Piano Local to anyone looking for a quality professional company who knows their stuff! I couldn't be happier!

From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.

Being in the fairfax area I've frequented Guitar Center as my only known option for guitars and pedals and mics ect. I hate the way most big box music stores make you feel. Like your bothering them to get a guitar down for you or grab a pedal out of a case. Frequently at big box stores there are multiple employees around talking to each other about their weekend exploits instead of helping customers. Not the case here. I walked into Matt's Guitars on a whim since I spotted it on facebook. They not only have a great selection of amps, guitars, and pedals....but they are happy you came in and treat you with care and respect. The guys here were happy to and even encouraged me to plug in and try a couple guitars amps and pedals. So pleased I found this place, even though it's about a 25 min drive for me, I will be back...often. Their selection of Strats and PRS was very nice to see. Thanks!

She was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient (I changed my destination address once lol). The price quoted was reasonable; I was offered 2 movers or 3 movers (different prices of course). I picked the 3 movers and I'm glad I did! The team showed up shortly after 8a (though to be fair the email said between 8 and 9a). They came with a 26 foot truck, shrink wrap, furniture blankets, tape, and bubble wrap. In all it took about 4 hours to move me from a 2nd floor 2 bedroom apartment to a 3rd floor 2 bedroom down the road. They really are workhorses - somehow they were all able to trek up and down the stairs repeatedly without seeming winded at all (which is incredible bc I went up and down the stairs without anything over 8 pounds yesterday probably 46 times and was EXHAUSTED). I'd highly recommend AAM for their care, expeditiousness, fair price, and friendly service!!

The guys that came were very polite, but would have destroyed the server had I not intervened. The top of the server was a single piece of slate stone that was incredibly heavy. We initially thought that it was attached to the piece, but when it was tipped to put on a dolly the top started sliding. Despite the sliding, the movers tried to continue to put the piece on the dolly with the slate portion supporting the rest of the piece. I had to stop them, make them put the piece back on the floor, and move the slate piece separately. If they had continued, the slate would have cracked into pieces. They tried a second attempt at putting the piece on the dolly. The bottom of the piece had no cover, so the only thing that would have supported the piece on the dolly were drawers. I had to stop them again before the drawers were destroyed and the rest of the piece was damaged. I have no idea how they could not see that moving it the way they were attempting was not remotely possible. Then they tried a third time, with the back of the piece used as support. The back of the piece was a 1/4 inch thick piece of plywood, which would also have been destroyed had they continued. In the end I had to convince them to carry the piece to the truck by hand, which they did. Unloading was much easier and they handled it well. Again, the items were extremely heavy, they worked hard, and were very polite. But I would not trust them to do a move unless they were supervised for heavy or high value items.
