My husband and I, being professional musicians as well, searched for a long time to find the perfect piano teacher. Our son had a prior piano teacher who, although kind, did not provide our son with the teaching he needed to help him advance, and that former teacher also wasn't invested in getting to know our child. Joe is the exact opposite of all this! Joe is a patient, intelligent teacher, who knows how to challenge his students while still having fun. He truly cares about our son, and indeed, cares for all of the students in his piano studio. I have been able to personally witness this not only during my son's lessons, but also in the group piano lessons and studio recitals that Joe hosts each season. Joe also has a wonderful way of integrating important life lessons while teaching piano, and takes the time to learn about each child so that he knows how best to relate to them and build their confidence. Joe's experience teaching leadership classes in the past to young leaders in training also shines through and enhances his teaching in every piano lesson. Additionally, Joe has a very high level of musical experience and expertise that allows him to teach all student levels, from the very beginner piano player to the advanced high school student or adult pianist. It's been an amazing three years of study with Joe so far, and our son looks forward to many more years of study to come. I highly recommend Manassas Joe's Piano!

I've worked with him for the past few months on several projects, and have also had the pleasure of hearing him play the piano on several occasions! If I would ever pick up playing the piano, Manassas Joe would be the place for me to go!

This is the place to go in the DMV if you're looking for a new Yamaha piano…read more We were first-time piano buyers looking for a new U1. From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.

Anyway, I had to cancel the order a few days later. Refunded me immediately. Honest and trustworthy owners! Thanks and sorry it didn't work out. Great music store!

The teaching was fun and intriguing, which I found it especially important for little kids. Elza was patient and definitely experienced at getting my four year old the solid good foundation he needed and also getting him to like what he plays with piano. He just had his first recital with Ms. Elza last week, and it all turned out nice and beautiful. So far, after learning for 5 months with Ms. Elza, my son likes playing, practicing piano, and is proud of himself playing music a lot. We'd definitely recommend.

I decided to take up piano again after retiring from a career as a lawyer for the federal government, to find enjoyment playing for family and friends as well as for the challenge of developing a new (or long-unused) skill. I am Elza's oldest student, among her many students who range in age from young children up to older children and adults. I have found Elza to be an excellent teacher. She is very flexible, so although her orientation is primarily classical, when I have shown an interest in working on some more popular styles (e.g., Broadway tunes, jazz standards), she is very willing to work with me. Her instruction covers not only technique, but also sight reading, ear training, and music theory and history. Elza is also very warm and friendly, she makes her students feel at ease with her. Now with the coronavirus crisis, Elza teaches online via Zoom. I'm finding that the online lessons work very well, and even have the advantage of saving me the time to drive to and from her studio.

I was in the store less than five minutes when the…read moreowner had approached us and asked "what brings you in" I mentioned we were in the market for a piano as my boyfriend is in the music industry. He said okay and let us be. The piano that he had picked first hand was out of tune and frankly a shitty one. We wanted to give his place the benefit of the doubt seeing there were several others to choose from. Moving to the right of us to the next piano, my boyfriend is still standing he checked the tune before he could sit down the owner RAN from the other side of the store and said "you need to ask me before you touch my pianos" in a super aggressive and unwelcoming manner. Which was not appropriate in a business setting let alone coming from a business owner. I have read through many other reviews based from race, and I hate to add to it but he had no issue with me (being a Caucasian female) but my boyfriend being African American the one playing the piano seemed to have a large issue with it. If you do not want people touching or playing your pianos do us a favor and put a sign up stating so. Because I read every single sign before touching and the only one I seen was if you were 18 or younger a legal guardian needed to be present and no food or drinks which he had none of those. Your customer service is awful & I will be happy to purchase my five pianos else where.

The short version: Nick is shady, he keeps you running around in circles putting off delivery, delivers the wrong piano, and then avoids paying you the money you are owed if you sell on consignment with him! The details: I purchased my beautiful satin black Baldwin model M from Nick back in I think 2015 or 2016, the purchase was smooth, and I appreciated the quick delivery and the tuning that came with it. If I were only reviewing on this, I'd have given a much higher rating. Fast forward to 2022: I approached Pianoman because I was in a situation where I could no longer keep my piano, we agreed that he would take my piano and place it on consignment, and I would receive $5,000 within 10 days of its sale. This sounded fine to me but then started the problems! This agreement was made on 5/27/2022, Nick knew I was on a time crunch since I was doing this because I was moving....8 emails (with few responses from Nick), and nearly 4 months later on July 9th, 2022 they FINALLY came to get my piano for consignment. I check in via email regularly (once every month or so) to see if the piano has sold yet, every time the response is the same, something along the lines of "not yet, we will let you know when it does" Getting my piano back: after about 6-7 months of no sale, I was in a position to take my piano back again, I message Nick again on 3/17/23 to confirm that it still hasn't sold and to arrange delivery, and he agreed to send it back. 2 1/2 months and 52 emails back and forth (where he kept promising delivery and then pushing me back week by week) later they finally call to tell me my piano will be delivered that same day (4/24/23). Great! The truck arrives, they uncover the piano... It isn't my piano!!! They send me a gloss black Baldwin Model R, mine was a satin black Baldwin Model M. I refuse delivery and instantly messaged Nick. He tells me they need to work out what happened since they are in the process of moving stores (no excuse for delivering the wrong piano) The excuse: A week or so passes and he finally tells me that the mix-up was because he had SOLD MY PIANO MONTHS AGO! And somehow "didn't realize it" (really? I doubt that). Now he tries pushing off paying me: He then tells me he will send me the $5,000 he owes me the next week or I could take that same value off the sale price of a new piano. I agree to the $5,000 (though the agreement was for the $5,000 to be sent to me within 10 days of sale, which clearly didn't happen since the piano was sold months prior without my knowledge... I should have demanded interest in addition to the $5,000 for holding my money for so long). He promises I will receive my payment by 5/2/23...Well, surprise surprise, the day he promises to send the money comes and goes and I still don't have the 5 grand. I email to see what was up and he tries to push it back another few days because "he is moving the store and his computer is down"... Not my problem, he knew when the money was expected (after all, it was the date HE promised) and this has now been a 9-month goose chase with him. Finally, on 5/5/23 he sends the money he owed me, but he waited until so late in the day to work out the transaction and banking that it nearly was pushed back again.
