Pi Pizzeria had been on my Nantucket Eats list for several years. But, weekends always went by so fast, summers abruptly ended, and then I missed hitting Pi once again. So when planning a trip for WineFest this year, a friend asked what my dining requirement would be (clearly my friends get me!) and I immediately said Pi Pizzeria. Ordered 2 margarita pizzas and when i opened them up at home I found that between the 2 of them there was maybe 1 whole small basil leaf cut up on them. Very disappointing...see the photos I attached...pathetic is a word to describe a margarita pizza with this lack of basil on it. read more

The service is spectacular and they have a great wine list. The tiramisu is not to be missed. You will not be disappointed. Called 2 hours in advanced at 4:45 at to place an order for a carry out and they told me too late-the absolute earliest they could have a pizza for us was three hours from now. Not conciliatory or helpful in any way. Keep in mind they don't even answer phones until 3 pm. I would recommend putting a notice on your website that orders need to be placed many hours in advanced so more people's plans aren't foiled. Businesses that act like the customer need them more than they need the customer rub me the wrong way. read more

I have to say that I am shocked at how low the ratings are for Pi Pizzeria. This place has some of the best pizza I have ever tasted. Almost every pie I have gotten was cooked to perfection. Very thin pizza made with all the best ingredients, including my favorite San Marzano tomatoes. To those of you that complain about the edges being burnt, the pizzas are cooked in a wood oven. Very pricy for pizza, but what else do you expect from Nantucket. Make sure you call ahead well in advance if you want to get pickup. Sometimes the wait can be in the 45 minute to 1 hour range, but it's worth it. Can't wait to get back to Nantucket this summer to have another pie. I have been here multiple times and enjoy the food but found their is always an issue with service. The final nail was a recent take out order where the wait for pizza was 2 hours. I am not sure why take out pizza would take 2 hours but the staff was not very nice about the order. It seems if they don't want to offer take out then remove it as an option. We have heard the stories outlined in the other Yelp reviews about the owners and service and can only validate our poor service but none of it surprises me now. Wow, my co-worker and I were directed here by an friend. We could not stop saying how good everything was. Started with Caprese salad and calamari. Nothing was left and we fought over who go to finish both of them. I ended with the calamari, he wanted the salad. Fair trade. We split a Large Great Italian with no onions. When it arrived it had onions. We complained and were told it was busy. Which it was very busy. My co-worker was the one who did not want them, but he was happy with the pizza and we did not send it back. Thank you for that. It was amazing and was glad the onions were on there to offset the flavors. Best pizza I have ever had. Notice they still got five stars and screwed up the order. Being from NYC good pizza is hard to find outside of the city. Very good pizza, cool vibe, small portions for the money $$$$, ordered take out two pasta dishes 1 pizza $80+. I've been trying to be generous in my reviews since most dining on Nantucket is pretty mediocre. But this place just annoyed me. $25 for a mediocre soggy pizza. $30 for chicken parmesan (for lunch!). Almost $70 total for lunch and the food was below average and insanely overpriced. Even by Nantucket's low standards, these guys are really pushing it in regards to what someone would be willing to put up with. Dare I say it. Get some Stouffer's Chicken Parmesan and a frozen pizza at the nearby Stop and Shop, and you might spend $15 for a better meal. read more

Our first night in town, we decide to grab a pi (see what I did there) and eat at the house. I drove into town and Yelp highly suggest to check out Pi Pizzeria. Keep in mind, this is not a Domino's or Papa Johns kind of place. It is a real Neapolitan pizza place. These pizzas are super thin crust and wood fired. We got a Great Italian and a Margherita, both large. I really liked the Italian. Didn't have too much, but it wasn't skimpy either. The Margherita was lacking in the cheese department, in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it. That 5th star came from service though. The location has 2 sides: a deli side where you get your take out, and a restaurant side where you eat in. The cashier at the deli side was the nicest person I had met. Made great recommendations. We wanted to make margaritas at home and we need agave nectar. He knew what aisle to go down in the nearby grocery store. This guy was awesome. Pi also has home made candies for sale. We got a bag of M&M clones, yogurt pretzels, malt balls, and peanut butter M&M clones. These were awesome! All organic ingredients. A cool little dessert for us! I would love to go back and eat in the restaurant and check out that service and experience. read more

My family and I ordered take out food from here, it was pretty good. We had one Great Italian Pizza, calamari, Broccoli Rabe, chicken parm with penne. My favorites were the pizza and chicken parm. The pizza, chicken parm, broccoli and calamari were all good though. We did have to wait about 10 minutes for our pick up and we did call ahead. The staff seemed nice but we saw the dining room which had an hour wait. There seems to be a nice selection of Italian snacks and fun things like boxed pastries and candy in the takeout area. Honestly very disappointed with the whole experience. The service is poor and some staff acted standoffish. They did not ask us if we wanted anything to drink in the beginning, clear the table between appetizers and entrees, or come to check up on us to see if we needed anything throughout the meal. The soup we ordered was too salty. We gave it back to the kitchen and they gave us another bowl, using the words, "this is a fresh one", implying that the first order we first received was old. The margarita pizza's crust was burnt. The risotto special was lacking flavor and was average at best. The white clam pizza had cold clams on it; they just threw clams on the top of cheesed pizza dough. The restaurant is not worth waiting for a table, like people do before opening. Love this restaurant in many ways. Prices reasonable for nantucket. Bar well stocked with good drinks and good Italian wine and good service. Many food items are great, steak is extra special. But, many food items could use some more spices. Had pasta with Meatballs and my husband had eggplant parm. Both needed much More spices, beyond just more salt. Standard tomato sauce is very plain. Pi offers a delicious, thin crust pizza. We had 3 large pizzas, gone in less than 5 minutes by our family of 10! The pies are not as large as Sophie T's but just as tasty. The wait was nearly 3 hours BUT it is the only game in town right now and they did their darnedest to get it to us asap. If you want your pizza by 6pm, order by 4pm. Just ok The good and the bad, first the good. Very cute building and decor inside and out, small space with a counter bar to the right and a small dining area to the left. Started with a calamari appetizer which was a very small portion but crisp , tasty and light. Next up the special risotto again an extremely small portion tasteless and overpriced in my opinion. Since we were 4 adults we ordered two large pizzas the first was the Margherita it was a pie covered with sauce and such a small amount of cheese that some of the 8 slices were actually without, also tiny shreds of fresh basil I definitely would not recommend this, our second pie was a little better it was the Italian ,sparse amounts of meats and cheese however this one did have a good flavor. I know it's Nantucket and prices for this area were reasonable if you were given a normal amount of ingredients. read more

I have eaten at Pi Pizza about 5 times in the past year. My first experience was tremendous (June 2010) and my last experience (July 2011) was not as great. I am usually a guest and I did not pick to go this restaurant but obliged. Unfortunately, they were out of some ingredients when I dined this previous time, which can be expected at times since many of the ingredients need to be shipped in. The pizza was lackluster. Unlike other times I have visited, the pepperoni was awful- (I had the Sicilian Pizza). This place can be very hit or miss. If you plan to eat with a group of three or more, plan to be squished at a table. You need to get to restaurant as soon as it opens if you have a group of more than 4 (5:30). If you have a large group and small children (you can wait a very long time for your pizza) I would suggest going somewhere else. I would have given this restaurant four stars if they had not allowed another customer to bring their CAT into the restaurant. I am very allergic to cats and within minutes I was sneezing. Animals do not belong restaurants. read more

My wife and I just purchased a residence on Nantucket! Recently, we ordered 3 large pizza's for take-out on a Friday night before New Years Eve. The gentleman at the take-out counter (whom was very pleasant) explained our pizzas would take about 45 minutes. So, we decided to go have a drink to pass the time in the bar. The bar was very busy so we ordered our drinks and stood waiting. After 15 minutes went by a space opened at the bar. My wife and I sat down with our drinks. No more than 5 minutes had gone by when the bartender rudely asked us to get up and leave the bar! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I asked him if he was serious and he said "it was their policy that it's more important for a couple to eat at the bar rather than enjoy a drink"! (Isn't sitting down and drinking the primary function of a bar)? I told him he was extremely rude for asking this of us. I asked to speak to the owner/manager. After a few minutes the owner walked over to me and I relayed our experiences to her. I explained that we had ordered 3 large pizzas and we're also further patronizing her establishment by ordering drinks. I furthermore explained that my wife and I were business owners as well and customer satisfaction meant everything to us..... With every other concern I explained to her she just "ok'd" me with sarcasm in her voice just as if she wanted to shut me up. I then said, so you're not going to do anything? You're just going to sarcastically ok me? She said again sarcastically "YUP, that's how I roll"! WOW!!! She was also very rude and sarcastic. It's a darn shame because we really like the pizza. But, after this incident we will certainly NOT patronize them ever again! I have been to Pi Pizza many times, and i am never particularly dissapionted, but normally they seat a party of 5 at a table clearly for 4, and goes on for larger parties. the restaurant is small so i understand they have limited space, but still. The wait for a table is always long, and the food takes a little while to come out, considering they are fresh pizzas. The pizzas are very good, but i find that the atmosphere does not match the food quality. Good for what it is. read more

I have this recurring fantasy about taking every restaurant on Nantucket and having them relocate to a mainland location for a month. In my fantasy, they don't do any business because, in the real world, people aren't forced to dine at restaurants where the food sucks and the staff is incompetent... However, this is just a fantasy, and Nantucket is not on the mainland, nor is it the real world...Pi Pizzeria is located on the outskirts of town, near the Chicken Box, and generated a predictable and sickeningly undeserved amount of buzz when it opened. Their wood fired pizza is burnt and not very flavorful. I once ordered some chicken and pasta dish, and my chicken was tough and dry, the pasta was walking a very line between al dente and uncooked, and it was served with a token tomato sauce that was so simple and tasteless it was insulting. My favorite memory of this place is when my friend and I were completely ignored by our college aged waitress. We ordered an appetizer which was delivered to the wrong table, and it was very difficult to get her attention. She was lavishing her attention on an elderly couple a couple of tables over - they were the people who got our appetizer. We HEARD them tell the waitress they didn't order it. And so on...the girl was obviously paying more attention to them because she figured they'd tip better, and this turned into a weird self-fulfilling prophecy for her, because we tipped her $10 on a $100 tab. $50 of that tab was a bottle of wine that she didn't bring to us and didn't open, someone else did that for her. When she saw her tip, however, she sent her manager to confront us about it. We told the manager that this girl ignored us, but the manager just yelled at us, and, hilariously, told us we'd never make it in the restaurant business. This woman had no idea who we were or what we do for a living. The manager told us never to come back, and we told her that wasn't something she should ever worry about. read more

I WILL NOT GO THERE NOR WILL My friends. I have never been so rudely treated in my life before by THE OWNER. Our story is simple, We were told by our waiter that the wait would be 25 minutes for 5 people. We went to the bar and there was only one seat available. We ordered 3 drinks . After waiting for an hour without complaining we ordered a second round, That's when the owner came over and said to us, "get up and let other people sit and dine". We stopped her and explained we were still waiting for our table and had just ordered another drink. She said no you can't have another drink! To my astonishment, she went behind the bar where the drinks were ordered and she actually poured out our drinks down the sink! And then told the bartender not to serve us! She then turned to us and told us to get out. I told her i had never been so rudely treated in my life and she responded by saying oh I bet you have! My girlfriend and I ( who are in in our 50's and early 60's) had had 1 drink. We weren't drunk, loud or obnoxious . We were just 2 women sitting having a drink waiting for dinner.Needless to say we left and will never return . My friend is an homeowner in Nantucket and we will definitely never go there again and we suggest that you think how you want to be treated before you go there. read more

Don't be fooled by positive reviews. This place sucks. I have never encountered someone as rude and clueless as the manager/owner of Pi Pizzeria. She lives in a very strange fantasy world where 4 tops comfortably sit 8 people which she quickly attempts to justify by saying this is how pizzerias throughout US and Europe operate, as though one may have been living under a rock and visiting Pi for their first slice ever. I gave them 1star for sitting us next to the door so we could leave before we could order. If you want good service and good za..... Head 2 blocks over to Sophie T's.
