I'm back. Unfortunately, this review is a reflection of my frustration and my inability to have a hot bowl of pho during a cold night. Yelp needs to initiate a "0" star rating system. Because tonight...was one of those nights. My 8 month PREGNANT wife and I walked in at 7:42pm. We hadn't been here before so we walk thru the line and when we get to register the "manager" says we're closed. We were refused service. Couple of interesting observation points #1 The neon "OPEN" sign was still flashing #2 The "manager" made no attempt to apologize or greet us upon entry to even inform us that the kitchen had "closed" #3 The pho broth pot was still boiling as we passed the line. We walked out at 7:45. If I was the owner of this establishment, I would be ashamed of not servicing my customers. The manager needs to go to BUSINESS 101 about maximizing profit, understanding the bell curve and most of all, being a prissy ass for wanting to go home. Fucking lock the door then. read more

If this was based on my first experience, it would be an easy 4 star, maybe even 5 for being the only place within 20 miles of my house with a vegetarian pho options. My first time out, I had a horrible cold and the guy at the counter assured me the pho would help. The restaurant is set up sort of oddly. You walk in, then walk down a long aisle where the menus are on huge signs that are separated from each other by several feet. If you aren't sure what you want, I'd suggest you stand back and take it all in before getting in line. At the end of the line is a cashier where you order and pay. The restaurant is spacious and clean with lots of yummy things to add to your pho on each table. The ingredients were fresh and the tofu chunks were ginormous. The large sized pho was enough to go swimming in and I'm not ashamed to tell you I ate it all. If this was based on my second experience, it would probably be a 1 star. I walked in the very next day (it was really good and my cold was feeling helped by the power of pho!) and I can barely say "veggie pho" before the cashier, who is playing on his phone, says "No. We're out of vegetable broth." He resumed playing on his phone, no explanation of when more vegetable broth might be ready. Just "No." So I left. Whomp wah :( I'm sure I'll eventually come back and give it another shot, but the bad customer service on top of running out of broth was not a good look for PhoXpress. read more

While they have a commendable selection of pho to suit different tastes (beef, seafood, chicken, and vegetarian), I felt the pho here was dumbed down, Americanized. No options for tendon, tripe, or any of the more typical organ or exotic cuts of meats that you'd find in a true Vietnamese pho restaurant. The broth was just mild and uninteresting, and required saucing from different table top condiments. I also did not understand why I had to share a garnish with my man who also ordered pho: we had to request more sprouts and peppers to share. The small bowl of pho here is smaller than some places I've dined in. This also was the first time my friend had ever stepped foot in a pho restaurant; she played it safe and ordered shrimp fried rice. What she received was a whole lotta yellow rice dotted with peas and carrots--and 3 tiny shrimp! At least they got her order of fried egg right...but the fried rice looked pathetic and unappetizing. My man also ordered a mango smoothie but it was just too darned sweet to be enjoyable. My last gripe with the place was the lack of cleanliness; from the moment we walked in, the floor was sticky, there hung in the air an odor of dirty wash water, and all the tables we looked at were soiled and filthy. I've only eaten here once and this place just opened so I'm going to give it a pre-review. I ordered the bun thit nuong (grilled pork and vermicelli) with eggroll (the "egg" option on the order form does not mean egg - it means egg roll // i was a little bummed when I found that out) I also ordered the soursop smoothie (offered on the beverage menu) . The cashier didn't know what it was and considering he was the one making it. I was a little worried. The entree was great. The meat and abundant and well seasoned.. Well balanced and delicious. A note about the eggrolls: there are SHRIMPS in them. They're good but if you're allergic to them - stay away. I didn't notice until towards the end and now I have a rash. It was pretty good though. :) The drink was underwhelming. There wasn't any soursop flavor and I had to ask for my drink twice. I pretty much got the drink after I finished eating. PhoXpress is a brand spanking new business that will definitely flourish once it streamline its service and perhaps portion size (the pho bowls are a little on the petite side) Come give this new place try considering it's the only place in the area that serves authentic Vietnamese! read more

At first glance it looks new and clean but look a little closer and you wonder if your health will be at risk. (IT IS!) After placing our orders we went to sit and wait for our food. We had plenty of tables to choose from since there was only two tables occupied. One of the employees was cleaning a couple tables that customers had just left. (He used no type of cleaner just a dirty cloth and wiped around the napkin holder and condiment tray. I moved the napkin holder to find what appeared to be a month or more of build up. GROSS! My first visit was today. Not your traditional authentic Vietnamese restaurant but doable. It's close to my hotel when I'm in the DFW area. Ordered the meatball pho and it was decent. They don't have tripe or tendon. Also got the fresh spring rolls and that was pretty good. Also ordered the bahn mi combo to go and it was satisfying. It came with an egg roll and drink so that was a nice deal. Got the taro smoothie with boba. Their menu has a decent selection of food items. Very rarely do I give a one star review but lots has to go wrong for a one star. We came in and the restaurant was very smokey I am guessing from the grill but it shouldn't be this smokey in a restaurant. We ordered our food quick which was the only express thing in the whole pho express. We ordered 4 items 2 pho bowls one rice plate and one sandwich. The pho came out and it was so so definitely not authentic but it was ok. Then 20-25 minutes pass and the other two items haven't came. I went up to the register to ask if the food was coming and they said yes it's slower because they are busy. Only problem with that is that people ordered after us got their food while we were still waiting......I asked to give us a refund for the remaining items but he said the food is coming right now. Another 5-10 minutes later we got our food. The express is definitely not part of the restaurant. I mean how hard is it to make a sandwich??? Overall service definitely brought this down and was very disappointed on the fact that we waited so long and lots of other customers got their food after us.... This place was fantastic! Or at least the dish I had was. Ordered the chicken and veggie pho, was out in probably 5 minutes along with bean sprouts, delicious thai basil, some jalapeño, and a lime wedge. Broth was full of flavor. Really hit the spot. The difference in size between the small and large bowl is barely noticeable, which explains why there's not much of a price difference. Ordered Pho with meatballs. We like to scout great Pho places and I must say, the Pho here is very tasty. Broth is sweeter than usual but still tasted very "clean". So it was soothing and an enjoyable bowl-- Hot and noodles were soft just the way I like. Iced coffee was SO bitter! I love coffee but it was just so, so strong -- fair warning! We received our bowls almost immediately. But for some reason we didn't receive our drinks till the middle of our meal. The water is straight from tap, so I recommend just not getting water. Venue has a lot of flies and it's so hard to enjoy food with flies swarming around us. But as far as I can see, it's still a clean restaurant. Lacks seating horribly! This place is a chain so I didn't have high hopes, but I was wrong! You order your food first, you're given a number to place on your table & they bring your food. Pho Ga - Chicken noodle soup, comes with all white meat. Broth was good. Was able to get egg noodle instead of rice noodle for no extra charge. Grilled Beef Banh Mi (sandwich) - BF got this to-go to eat the next day. I tried a bite and loved it, that's saying a lot considering it was reheated. I absolutely love and crave the food at Pho Express. It is super convenient, has a great atmosphere, the food is fresh, and is a nice change from the rest of the "mall food" in the area. (We'll talk about you later, Applebee's.) The only reason I give it three stars instead of five is the inconsistency of the food and the frequency with which they get my order wrong. I eat there about three times a week, and in the last month, the following have happened: - Ordered chicken pho, was served with beef broth. - Asked for extra cilantro, was given extra basil. - Ordered filet spring rolls, was given shrimp. - Ordered fried rice with no egg, got extra egg. - Asked for peanut sauce with my spring rolls, the peanut sauce was no where to be found. - Ordered a pork bahn mi twice, one had cucumbers, jalapenos and pickled carrots, and the other had some sort of mayo, cucumbers and cilantro. - Half the time my pho comes with all the fixings, but the other half is just sprouts. Hmm... Everything I've ever had has been delicious, but I simply can't trust them for carry-out or delivery. I literally need to stop and dig through my entire order at the register to make sure they get it right. Now, that never, ever stops me from eating there, but I sure wish they could get their consistency issues worked out. It also seems like there have been a ton of new people starting lately. If Bryant is there, I normally just ask for him... That's how I know my order will be legit. You should definitely try it out, but don't expect it to be the same the next time you go. read more

I came here for lunch today. I have to say i wasn't too disappointed. I had my Pho with Filet Mignon & chicken. It was delicious, the soup had a lot of flavor. I ordered at the register and they brought it to my table. It's nothing too fancy if your planning to take someone to dinner here. I would just recommend for lunch or casual dinner stop. I will probably be back to try the other meat's available since you choose which meat you would like. The spring egg-rolls also looked tempting to try. But a medium bowl of Pho & drink for $10 isn't too bad. It filled me up. One minor remark was the service. Being that this was my first time here, I walked in after lunch traffic (around 2pm) to find nobody in line. I think i stood there in front of the counter/menu sign for about 3-4 minutes until i had to go up to the register in order for someone to notice i needed help or needed to order. This has become one of our favorite restaurants. The menu has a nice variety and the food is always fresh. Our daughter gets the Pho Deluxe which is served with a portion of fresh vegetables on the side to mix in. Our son usually gets the fried rice and my husband's favorite is the Fried Pork Vermicelli. I usually get the Stir Fried Rice Noodles with chicken. It is served with a variety of vegetables with a lot of chicken. Most of their menu can be customized to however you want it. They also have a lot of fun drinks and smoothies on their menu. The restaurant looks brand new inside with a nice modern feel. They have booths and tables and can accommodate larger groups. You order at the counter and then your order is delivered to your table. Everything is cooked fresh to order. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant is very well run. We normally frequent a place in Irving and saw a groupon for here so we gave it a try. It did not disappoint. Though the offer was high for pho, $15 for $30, the soup was really nice and fatty without a heavy star anise flavor, meat was thick, and the noodles had some decent bite on them. I would recommend this place to someone local who hasn't had pho before and wants to give it a go before trying other places where the menu will do some more daring (or scary) things. The portions also tend to run on the small side, but this seems to fall in line with the decidedly more no-pho experienced crowd we saw in here. Also had pork spring rolls and drip coffee. Good food, fast service. This place retains its Viet authenticity while trying something new in its ordering style. Customers mark their selection on a card and hand it in. The items will come out to your table when its ready. In the meanwhile, you can watch them make it at their respective Pho, banh mi, rice stations. Solid Pho at this place, but expect to pay a little bit extra for the stylized decor (Large Pho bowl goes for 9.99, Regular Dac Biet Pho 7.99). In general, Pho comes in smaller bowls than traditional Vietnamese places. We tried the Salmon Spring rolls, and the salmon was cooked well. However, the roll itself felt too sushi-like for a Vietnamese place. Friend had the Bun (vermicelli) dish, and it looked like it had plenty of meat and fixings. We met the owner, and he's a very welcoming guy. They are still working out the kinks in the ordering system so expect things to get even better. New location should be opening up at UT-Arlington soon. Bottom line: Interesting ordering concept and good, if slightly more expensive, Vietnamese food. read more

After driving through the nasty construction that surrounds the grapevine area, we finally arrived at Pho Express. I had recently purchased a groupon so i decided to give it a go...and glad we did! With 30 min till closing, they served us fresh vietnamese food with a smile =) we ordered Goi Cuon (Vietnamese spring rolls) which were very good. For the entree we both got a Vermicelli bowl, mine with grilled shrimp and sugarcane shrimp...he got the grilled pork and grilled shrimp. I still had a couple bucks left from my $30 groupon so I decided to get a durian shake. ALL was fantastic, healthy dinner. Fresh ingredients. My guy noticed that the noodles were so fresh that they were steaming. Clean establishment. nice art of vietnam on the walls. I love the concept of the open kitchen. Pleasantly surprised by this little chain location. Not the best Pho I have ever had in my life but does have a real mass appeal and quality of ingredients. I have gone here for lunch from work a few times and we have been happy every time. I ordered, got my drink, sat down, checked in on Yelp and poof..my meal magically appeared. Broth and noodles in my pho was pretty good but quality of meat in my pho is subpar! Flank steak pieces were mostly fat?? Hmm....I don't want to question what the meatballs were made of. Definitely not the type of meatballs my Vietnamese momma usually puts in! There were also no real chopsticks, just the disposable Chinese kind. Went back after more than 8 months later. Only reason was one of our friends invited us out, and this was the place she picked. After going through the line and ordered our food, we sat down and waited about 5 min before food came. Would have been OK, but no food for me. This was in the evening around 630p or so, with no more than 30% full. They had 1 cashier, and couple other workers hanging around near the cash register. I waited another 5min before going to the front to ask where is my pho (I ordered large combination pho, and that's it). The response is that they are still making the pho soup. I'm thinking, how could a pho place be out of pho soup? That's like McD running out of burgers. Anyway, had to wait another 5min before I was finally served. By then, my family and our friends are about 2/3 finished with their dinner. With no apology, I was more than disappointed, but didn't want to make a scene given our friends were there. I believe the management and/or owner need to rethink their business strategy and go back to school for some training and customer service. I'll happily drive few extra miles to get real pho, with better service and better value. read more

A very pleasant surprise in a small strip mall. I had the Seafood Pho: The broth was incredibly flavorful and a bit spicy. The seafood was adequately tasty and plentiful. The portion was large for a low price. To say service was quick would be an understatement - the pho came to my table immediately after sitting down. Don't expect fine dining. People were screaming in the backroom and it definitely has the feel of a mom and pop operation, although the dining area is fairly large and the tables were clean during my visit. They frequently run coupons in the local mailers for $5 off. We have tried ALL the pho places around here since moving from Austin and this one is absolutely the best. I went here yesterday because of a Groupon. When I first walked in, no one greeted us, so we just sat ourselves. After about 2 minutes of sitting and no one greeting us, we realized it was because you have to go up through the line and select the items you want and then order at the counter. It's different. Everything on the menu is really pricey for Vietnamese food. I was going to order the shaken beef, but it said, "add an extra $5 (to the rice plate.)" Really? $14 for shaken beef? I usually get it for ~$9 elsewhere. It's just not worth it. I ended up getting grilled pork with rice and an egg, and even that cost over $10. Since the Groupon was for $30, I also ordered a banh mi thit. I asked the guy taking my order if the rice was "com tam" (broken rice), and he had no idea what I was talking about, so I had to repeat it in English and he said, "No, we don't have that." A vietnamese restaurant without broken rice. Well, okay. They bring out the banh mi thit first for our appetizer. The flavor is pretty good. They use lemon grass to marinade the meat. However, there was so little meat! And for $4.50! Outrageous. For that price, I expect it to be oozing with meat. So my boyfriend gets his food first, and he was ALMOST done eating when they bring out mine.. and they forgot the egg. So by the time my complete meal was out, I was eating by myself. The grilled pork had a good flavor to it, but again, not enough meat. They gave me an XL scoop out rice and skimped out on the meat. So would I come here again? Not at that price. I try not to leave bad reviews but in this case I feel compelled. First the experience started off on the wrong foot when the cashier did not even acknowledge I had stepped up to the counter. The first work he spoke to me was the total for my order. Then I recieved my order. I ordered the spicy beef. The flavor was fine and it was spicy but the quality of the beef was so poor that I could not eat it. The fat had become so hard that it was basically rubber. This is not an exaggeration. Imagine trying to eat your cell phone case. I searched the bowl for a piece of beef that I could eat safely but was unsuccessful. If you don't want to be harassed by the sample slinging food court employees at the grapevine mills mall, PhoXpress seems like an alternate for a quick and inexpensive meal. I got a grilled pork banh mi and this place grills it like a panini. If I return, I'd request that it is not grilled. Warm mayo on a sandwich is not an appealing condiment. I think the extra heat from the grill made the contents have a slightly strange scent. (definitely the mayo!) It was an overall decent sandwich, but a bit pricey at 5 dollars when you can find these at pho places for under 4. I also got traditional spring rolls that were good, decent peanut sauce and my own generous additional squirts of sriracha. Notably, there were tons of full sriracha (rooster brand) bottles along a counter near the start of the open kitchen area but the bottles on the table were generic condiment bottles with a sriracha label. I just thought it was odd to go through the extra effort to move them to nondescript bottles. When imagining that someone likely had to fill those bottles manually, my apprehension for mistakes and uncleanliness kicks in. My friend got the pho and thought the broth was a bit sweet. Not surprising for the taste buds in this area. Definitely not a destination dining, but for in the area, makes a decent option when you are desperate for Viet. read more
