I will never, ever use these guys for film processing again. Where do I start? Maybe the fact that I paid for 4mb scans at $15 per film and the best that they gave me were 600kb images. Maybe it was because every scan had "according to Matt" dust on the scanner. Maybe it is also due to the lifeless, grainy results that I thought would be suitable for Facebook etc. Seriously, if you have a film that you need processed this is NOT the place to take it, there are sooooo many more viable options with a Google search. read more

I had them process 8mm films onto DVD's and mpeg files. I had other 8mm's done a few months ago by a company in Roseville. I should have gone back to Roseville. Photo Source took twice as long and charged twice as much and didn't even completely process all the film I dropped off. Plus, clearly some of the 8mm must have split. Clearly, they hastily patched it together. So, now I have scenes all mixed up. Sloppy. I get that the 8mm was old and that it even could have broken while they were working on it. (Curious. The film I brought to the Roseville company was even older and no breakage.) I would have appreciated someone telling me what happened at least. Now I'm spending HOURS just to piece the video back together. I don't recommend Photo Source for converting 8mm's; but for other projects, they may be just fine.. read more

I came here expecting the store to be similar to Camera Arts, boy was I wrong. They have a few popular lenses, backpacks, filters, and anything else I don't remember. They don't have a wide selection of lenses, so you won't find that deal on a L lens from Canon. (I hoped when I went there) Prices are a bit high for their camera products, but I can't comment on their photo print services since I haven't used them yet. Service was prompt and nice, but it seemed the owner was the knowledgeable one about cameras. I'll say I'd go back there if I just had to have it, but I'll stick to online. read more

I have utilized the photo processing and restoration services offered by Photo Source, and have always been very happy with the results. I've had photos restored at other places I have had a number of very old and damaged family photos scanned and cleaned up very nicely. I had additional prints made and gave them to relatives as gifts - a big hit! Consistently good results - not cheap, but excellent quality work for sure. read more

I have never had a bad experience here. Their prices are way high compared to so many other places and they generally don't have a huge inventory of bodies or lenses. I'm definitely a regular and find them to be very helpful. If my needs are digital or film they make me feel comfortable. Do you need something that they don't have in stock? No problem there either, as they can order it for you. Did you buy something that turned out to be a complete load of garbage i.e. the new pocket wizards? Took it back no argument and righted my ship to my full expectation.... In regards to them having high prices I'll leave you all with the following. If you think its expensive to work with professionals then wait till you see what it costs to work with amateurs. PhotoSource are definitely professionals!! read more

Photosource, you've let me down again. Shoot with a Mamiya (RZ67 Pro II), only place in town that develops 120 and 220. Brought film in to develop on Monday (They do 1-2 times a week, ONLY if they have enough film to develop), called yesterday to see when order would be ready- they said 'it hasn't been started yet, come by 3pm.' 3pm rolls by.. guess what?! They haven't started #$%*! Top that, the staff plays the blame game- "he said, she said, I didn't say that.." Really childish and this isn't the first time its happened. You need to be on their butts to get anything done. A staff member gets the rolls started, however it's a plus 30 min wait (turns into an hour) Afterwards, picked up some white gloves to purchase (to handle film from fingerprints), the staff member just walks away to the back and stays there. Uhmm.. you're the only one working! Literally had to chase her and bring her to the front to ring up. I can brush this off if it's one time, but a series within a year.. C'mon! If you can go somewhere else, GO! Really miss Ace Photo on Fulton! :( read more

This is the same review I gave before, just posting it with a new profile. Well, I don't complain much but this rips it for me and I have to say something. I called today about renting a lens, this is the only game in Sacramento for renting gear. First of all the prices are very high as advertised I can have something shipped in for less about 3x less. But I was in a jam and needed to pick up something today. So I figured I would bite the bullet. Well there is a full retail price deposit required. So for the lens that I wanted to rent for the weekend for $75 I would have to leave a $1600 deposit in some form. Ridiculous, I have rented from one of their competitors and never paid a deposit ever. I understand the reasons for it but there has to be and is a better way. So I begin to explain this to the girl on the phone about what their competitor is doing, and she interrupts me mid sentence and tells me she does not have time to argue with me. First of all I was not arguing with her I was doing them a favor by informing them that they are being way outcompeted by others out of the area and she treated me terribly for bringing it up. I am in business myself and if someone told me that my competition was kicking my rear in some way that person is doing me a favor and I listen. But I was treated very rudely on the phone, and I got a very elitist attitude towards a potential client. I will never do business here, and nor should you. read more

I've used Photosource for film processing several times. They do a good job but not a perfect job as the sticker-shock price tag may imply. $23.00 to develop and scan 1 roll of 120 C41 film with a 24hr turnaround? Really? I almost choked. At that price you can almost FedX 1 roll back and forth nearly anywhere in the country with better results and higher resolution scans. Aside from that, they do carry 120 professional films (for nearly 25% more than you would pay elsewhere in town) and have equipment you can rent on the spot. My experience with the staff has been very hit or miss...mostly miss. I realize that serving the artistic, peculiar and sometimes techno-WHINEY photography community is likely a difficult task. However most people respond well to a desire to "help" you. read more

Let me just say this place is awesome and their customer service is next level! I called Photo Source 5 minutes before closing to see if they had a part I could not get my hands on at any other camera store within 100 miles. They instantly knew what Manfrotto part I was describing, brought the part up to the counter and then stayed open 15 minutes past closing to wait for me to arrive and sell me the part I needed for my shoot tomorrow morning at 8am. I would not have been able to successfully complete my shoot without the help of Photo Source they will now be my go to when I need camera equipment. Photo Source had a huge selection with a plethora of equipment from DJI ronin gimbals to vintage Hasselblad cameras. It was very refreshing to go to a camera store that was so helpful and really wanted to earn my business. They indeed helped me out tremendously and earned a customer for life! I rented lenses, lighting and a camera body from them a couple of times already. Call ahead and you'll be sure to be taken care of right away. Slow wait times only when they're busy. Otherwise, I was in and out within 10 minutes with all of the rental equipment. The pricing on their rental equipment is reasonable, equivalent to the online services. I just like to do this at a local store so I know what I'm getting when I pick them up. They have other services that I haven't used yet, studio rental, darkroom, or their printing service. I will definitely go back to them for renting equipment. They seem to have more equipment in their inventory every time I look at their list. read more

I have previously rented camera lenses from them but I didn't know they also rented lighting. When I picked up the equipment I was assisted by Boris Rajeski. Fantastic little shop! It an it's parent shop Pardee's are the only place in town to get real photography equipment and supplies and most importantly, developing and enlarging equipment and supplies. I've always found the staff to be very knowledgeable and friendly. I was in recently to see if they had lens for my 1978 Pentax K-1000 camera. Between the two looking they didn't have anything that would fit my camera in the lens I wanted. Instead of just saying sorry, one of the guys suggested eBay and pulled up the site on their computer and searched. I'm not that knowledgeable on different lens and the particulars, the info was explained and suggestions given without patronizing. A major A+. The gentleman and I looked at various lens and found what would be the best. The auction was ending in 20min so I went home, bid and got the lens. Would any other store do that? Spend that amount of time knowing they won't make a penny? They are also great with not pushing new gear. They know I'm putting together a darkroom and have been great providing good used equipment at reasonable prices. Not once was there any pressure to buy new and most of the time offered the used first. Yes, there may be a better profit margin on used but I appreciate getting a lower price for the same thing. I'm going to give them a shot soon with photo restoration. A young foster dog I had pretty much ate an old pic that I dearly loved. read more

He acted as if I was a bother when asking questions for their rental agreements. His attitude alone, lost them $1500 of my money. I was excited to finally find somewhere to process my film! I was quickly dissapointed when the staff on duty was not interested in my business. There was only one person there and he behaved as though I was bothering him. I asked him about dark room services and he told me that they have one but I have to call ahead to use it and then he went back to a project he was working on, leaving me without assistance at all. I went over to where he was working and asked him if it was possible to come in later to use the dark room. I told him that I have my own chemicals and he thought about it for a moment and said, "no. It's not set up right now.. maybe next weekend." Sacramento has had a rough time keeping camera shops. I was thrilled when I ran across this business but their attitude totally turned me off. In fact, I bought some black vinyl on the way home and turned a room in my house into a dark room instead. I can't say that I would ever go back into Photo Source and I would recommend that people stay away!! read more

Casey is awesome. She was printing photos for me for the last year. I sent the digitals by email. She took the time to print them and crop or enlarge. Then I went in one day to pick up and was told by the owner she was no longer able to print for me because it took too long. He wanted me to download some application....but I am not tech savy. So....I guess my meager weekly or bi weekly printing jobs are not worth their time. I adore casey and will miss working with her. Not real sure on the owner as I have lots if old slides I was gonna bring there to be put on discs...in addition to my prints. To my way of thinking it is just poor business to not accommodate a returning customer. Not sure I personally would recommend this place anymore. read more

The staff is friendly and willing to assist in any way possible.
