Everyone was very nice, so the stars are for that. However, I won't be bringing film here again. In the past, my husband and I took our film to a shop in San Diego. Prices were around 18$ per roll, and the scans were always high-res (there was no other option). At Mike's, we were not given an option to choose high-res or low-res. Due to the fact that the price was $21.50 per roll, it didn't cross our minds that they wouldn't be high-res. When we got the photos, they were low-res scans that were not even usable because they were so pixelated. They literally looked like flip phone camera photos. When we went to pick the film up, we mentioned it, and they said they could rescan them for an additional $10 per roll (aka $31.50 total per roll... yikes), but the low-res scans were so bad that we decided to pay. One roll of the rescans was better. However, the other roll (which was a lomography red) was scanned backwards, and all the detail in the darker parts of the image are completely lost, so most of the images are still unusable. I know lomography red is a bit different, but we've never had an issue developing it before and they've always turned out clear. I also noticed inconsistency in the size of the photos, as if the full frame is not being scanned. Most of the re-scans are actually longer and include parts of the image we didn't see in the original scans. However, some of the rescans cut off even more of the photo than the original scans. I believe they have photography students working here, which is amazing and I fully support that, but they do not charge prices that reflect student work and it doesn't appear that a seasoned professional is checking the work. The previous shop we used was run by professionals with tens-of-years of experience working with film, and they charged less than Mike's. I hope our experience with Mike's is unique and everyone else has a great experience, but I had to leave ours here, just in case it helps someone. read more

To me the ideal way to buy is in a store, not online This store is well-stocked. The salespeople are knowable and willing to show me all the new equipment I am interested in. They are open on the days I am in Sacramento. I am thinking about a new camera. I want something that is lighter than what I have now. Cell phones can take great images, however, they don't give me the control over a scene that a camera will. There are many reasons I don't shop on line. One is: I want to hold a camera, a bag or even a strap in my hands before I buy. When a salesperson helps me I will not use Amazon or the New York camera stores. I prefer to buy from store with people I can talk to face to face. read more

Based on my experience I would certainly return for needs within their realm. I have a roll of 35mm film for developing. I did not openthe container before visiting your store, when the gentleman behind the counter opened the container we saw the roll was black and white film which requires a special processing. No prob, I was in town and don't have a film scan spot near me so I dropped off my film. Not only did I get the scans back in 1 day they were such great quality scans! Impressed enough to leave a good review here. Let me start of by saying how welcomed I felt the moment I walked in to the store, I couldn't remember the associates' name but she was so cool and had a very positive vibe, she didnt hesitate to help me out, even gave me few infos about the student discount, its benefit and whatnot. Mind you, I just went there literally just yesterday sunday 8/10/25, and guess what? I now have the soft copies of my film! If you guys only know how much you all made me happy. I went to go get passport photos and it was fast and easy. Staff was friendly. Store seemed very well organized.

I went in this week looking for a used 35mm camera just to use as a hobby/taking pictures of my kids. Amanda was super helpful, showing me the options they had in store and giving recommendations. The camera I chose was a good price based on what I had previously found in online shops. Amanda took the time to walk me through how to load film and showing me some of the different features on the camera. She then helped me choose the best film for what I'd be using it for. She let me know that the store has a 30 day return policy, which I was surprised/happy with since I was purchasing a used product (I expected it to be final sale). It was very nice walking into a full-service local camera store! There were lots of people that love photography that offered a wide range of services and expertise. I needed to have a few 35mm slides scanned. I dropped them off and received high quality results the same day. Let's start with the positives. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming when I went into the store this past Saturday to print some pictures. I am working on a photo collage for family memories and thought that Mike's Camera would be the best place to get the photos printed before getting the framing work done next door at Midtown Framing later this week. Unfortunately, when I picked up the photos the next day, I forgot to open the envelope in the store and you can imagine my horror when I opened it at home and saw that it was 34 copies of the same picture. I called the store earlier today and the nice lady I spoke with said that I could come in and try print them again ( but I would have to talk to the manager regarding any pricing adjustment since essentially "you only selected one photo on the kiosk and that is what we printed". I do remember picking 34 different photos on the kiosk (unless there was a technical malfunction) and in any case, why would someone need 34 copies of the same picture printed over and over again? Long story short, I love to buy/shop local but unfortunately, I won't be back here again (I will just count the money I paid for the prints as a loss and lesson learned). read more

I'm reviewing mainly the film development department here. I go here mainly to develop my 35mm film rolls (i scan them at home). They turn C-41 pretty quickly with develop only's (typically a day or less). E-6 and black and white films are outsourced so i end up going elsewhere for those. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable with film and respected my negative films. I look forward to continuing to do business with them in the future as long as I'm shooting 35mm color negative film. Ah, prints have also looked great, too. Good detail and colors with also knowledgeable staff on hand to help. Recommended. Correction 12/3 - Black & White done in house. I misremembered. I still take my black & white rolls out to another local lab as it's been quicker for me. Heh. read more

I just purchased a phone and couldn't get it to work. The gentleman in repair said they couldn't repair the camera (continuous turn the camera off error message). Please note the camera does work. I was highly disappointed with the lack of attentive customer service. There was no seemingly effort to thoroughly examine the camera before recommending the camera was not functional. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I've been interested in photography for a while but haven't fully had the opportunity to fulfill my passion for it. I became very interested in a specific camera after learning lots about fugifilm. I kept and eye out looking everywhere for this camera at a good price and it's backordered forever. Me and my grandma went around town to just check out cameras. She called mikes cameras out of curiosity to just check and see if they had the one I was interested in and perfect timing because they had just gotten one and knew somebody would be interested. I've been going to Mike's Camera in Sacramento and Dublin for 10+ years since I started getting into the hobby. Even though anything can be bought at the click of a button nowadays, I highly recommend checking out equipment in person. I've changed my mind on multiple occasions after watching video after video on highly touted lenses, just to either return them (7 day return policy has been good to me), or decide on something else once I actually tried it in person. There's no comparison to holding and testing gear in person to make sure it's right for me, especially since this stuff is freaking expensive and a long-time investment. That said, over the years I've traded in, rented, gotten prints, and purchased new bodies and lenses and have never been disappointed in the customer service they provide. I love that at both locations I frequented, they are always able to provide tons of information on specifications for lenses and bodies I was interested in as a Sony fan boy. They always have a wealth of knowledge even though they themselves shoot primarily on different systems. Lately, Colton at the Sacramento location has helped me settle back into the full frame world and I couldn't recommend his help enough. Disappointing. We brought in two old family portraits asking for copies that we could frame, AND a CD with the images for future prints. We repeated the CD request several times because the employee didn't repeat it back to us. We were told we'd get a call when they were ready the next day, we didn't get that call. We called the store two days later to check, first attempt we were on hold for nine minutes, the second attempt took 16 minutes. I finally got someone on the phone who took thirty seconds to check that our order was ready. The prints look great but there is no CD. In fairness, we didn't check our receipt to make sure the CD was charged because we didn't think we needed to. Y'all seem busy, sorry for the inconvenience. read more

(Returning customer here) Sales tactics could improve! Seemed very commission based. I came in and was very excited to buy a Go Pro creator kit and also a drone. (Kevin was super helpful) but when trying to have a conversation with him I felt hovered over by the other lady at the counter that continuously says "Okay" over and over. It seemed like she wanted to get the sale since I called the day before and she happened to answer the phone when I asked if they had the items in stock. I called back later that day and spoke with Kevin, (who I wanted to deal with when I arrived) I asked for him) but she was adamant on helping me. I didn't care who got the sale but I wanted to deal with Kevin since he seemed more knowledgeable on the products. I've worked in this retail style business before at GNC when I was in college. I think the employees need to learn to relax. I felt pushed and could feel it even though she said take a breather and think about it. There was nothing to think about. I came into buy the products that I researched the night before but I didn't like the way she acted so I'm taking my business somewhere else. I bought a Sony Zv-1 here a year or so ago and felt that same way with this same sales person. I now know not to come back! There was also an Asian American man working behind the counter on the computer that just kept staring at me while Kevin was talking about the products. I'm not sure if it was because they knew it was gonna be a decent sale for the day considering the purchase would've been 1200-2000$ and as soon as I told the lady I was going home to do more research on drones and come back Monday. He immediately looked away from me. That tells me right there that they are looking to get that sale which is understandable but the whole process just rubbed me the wrong way. read more

I would highly recommend getting passport photos here! I regret that I got my photo done at FedEx first and they only had overhead florescent lighting so it came out with too much shadow. I went to Mike's to fix it since I saw on their website they would take the photo as many times as needed. I was pleased they had an actual professional camera setup and the person taking the photo knew what they were doing. It cost around $17 at FedEx and around $18 here. I think paying a little bit extra is worth it for a better experience and being guaranteed a passable photo. I wish I had just went here first. read more
