Went to Midtown framing over the holidays to get a print framed for my 13 yr old daughter. I had found an art piece in San Francisco that I thought she would love. I really wanted to have it framed in a frame that was hanging in her nursery when we brought her home from the hospital. Only problem, the art piece was in a rectangle shape and the fame was a square. Kevin was friendly and very knowledgeable. He assured me he could cut the art piece so that it could fit in the frame without losing any of its integrity. He was right. The end result was perfect! Put out a filler using the 'projects' feature on the Yelp review and decided to go with Kevin at Midtown Framing. The project at hand was something very special; a framed collage of signatures, accompanied by corresponding photos of Sacramento King's legends. This was gifted to my girlfriend by her nephew and his wife for her birthday. Unfortunately, my son and I broke the glass while horse playing. Kevin explained the cost and price difference for each option to replace the now nonexistent glass with. Midtown Framing took immediate care of the frame and replaced the glass in less than 24 hours. I had ordered a square print, so I needed a frame made. I read great reviews here and I was happy I went to Midtown Framing. They are helpful and can do anything, you have an old metal from your grandfather that he won in the war? You have a key from your first house? You have a square print? They can frame all of those things. I had a weird print size and I had a frame and I needed the mat to be cut just a few inches smaller to fit. After I called and scheduled a time to go in I took the print, the frame and the mat in. They cut me a mat that fit the frame and the print perfectly and they didn't try to sell me a custom frame which I appreciated. They really do it all and go above and beyond to get you what you want. I'll be going here for all my mat/framing needs in the future. Top notch service and high quality work! COVID update: they only let one person in the shop at a time and please wear a mask. I originally wanted a custom print framed but since I wanted something simple he recommended that I can find a frame cheaper than what they offered. It was an honesty I appreciated and I was able to find the exact frame I was looking for and saved the $$. I went into Midtown Framing on September 9th at around noon to get a jersey framed. I was quickly greeted and helped. I explained my desires to frame a jersey and Gary walked me through the entire process. He helped me pick out the frame, the matting, the glass, the specific jersey layout and overall size. Gary took the time to lay out my jersey and put my selected frame and matting around the jersey to get a preview of what it would look like. Gary spent at least 45 minutes with me as I chose exactly what I wanted. Gary explained to me how the size of the frame and presentation of the jersey would affect cost. He was upfront with me about total cost and what cost cutting measures I could take if desired. Fastening the jersey to the backing was labor intensive. They actually sew the jersey to the backing for better preservation. This was one of the more expensive portions of the total cost. I chose museum glass which added an additional $120 from the other glass options. I also got lifted matting to compliment the red/gold colors of the niners. With these add ons and a dimension size of 32" x 40" my total cost was $642.00. Gary answered all my questions and explained any process or cost I was unfamiliar with. I sincerely appreciated all the time that was spent helping me create the exact shadowbox I wanted. I picked up the framed jersey in October and it was exactly like I had requested. Wow. I'm almost suffering from writer's block as to what to say about this place. We had a beautiful painting that was done by an artist friend of ours. It was going to be the center art piece in our living room so we wanted it to be nice, not to mention preserved as it will be a piece that gets passed down. I've been having artwork (mostly screenprints posters) custom framed since 1999, but I've only had Midtown Framing perform my custom framing since last year. In the past, I had exclsively used Michaels and Aaron Bros because of their constant 50% or more sales. Yet, I don't see myself ever going back to the Michaels/Aaron Bros. (same parent company) ever again. I had gone there for a number of years, mainly because certain stores had framers experienced in dealing with large format vintage posters, but as they were ALL eventually pushed out by incompetent store managers, I had stopped having custom framing done by 2007. I did some research on framers last year after my "go to" frame shop in El Dorado Hills disappeared off the face of the earth suddenly. One day the shop in EDH was there, then one the shop was entirely empty. Weird. The last few years I have needed custom framing for photography entered for competition. Depending on my mood (and budget), I've gone simple white mats and black wood frames to more elaborate mats and frames. I don't feel pressured by any upsell. And what I learned is that Midtown Framing is not any more expensive than those big box framers, but I have the advantage of the design and framing expertise of the father-son team at Midtown. I am notorious for taking a very long time to pick my mats and frame styles. An hour for one photograph? Entirely possible. The great thing now is I can verbalize an idea to Kevin (the son) and he'll start pulling out frame styles to match that idea. I enjoying asking him why he prefers a style and getting an actual informed response. It's almost comedic now to see me pulling what I think are great frame styles for my idea only to see Kevin's choices and quickly putting my frame samples back on the wall. I finally decided to take a few photos that I purchased to be framed. Living in midtown, and a few blocks away from this store, I walked with 3 photos to frame. Gary, who is in business with his son, was at the counter to help me. I couldn't believe how much thought goes into framing a photo! Fortunately, Gary is AN EXPERT! Thankfully so, cause I have never had anything framed before. He spent over 2 hours with me going through ALL of the options of frames,matte, glass and much more. He said I seemed genuinely interested in the process so he wanted to show me all my options, and I'm extremely glad I did. I had never had anything framed before, but I could not have had a better experience. I wanted to custom frame my sister's wedding invitation as her wedding gift. The wedding was beach-themed, and I came to Midtown Framing with a vague idea of framing the invitation with shells and other beachy items that I bought at a craft store and brought in. I should add that I had a quick turnaround; I needed the frame completely done within a week. Kevin and his dad immediately brought out sample frames and mats they thought went with my theme, and what they suggested was perfect. I left my materials there and trusted them with arranging the shells, and within a day Kevin emailed me a picture of a potential layout. I made some slight tweaks and gave them the go-ahead to put it all together. Within a few days it was done, and the result was absolutely stunning. They knew I had to take the frame on a cross-country plane ride, so Kevin protectively wrapped it and it survived the trip, no problem. My sister and her husband loved it. As far as pricing goes, I can't really say whether it was a "good deal" because I don't have anything to compare it to (virgin framer here). I paid what I expected to pay, and it was totally worth it (I believe I paid around $270, which included frame, mat, shadowbox, and the labor it took to carefully glue tiny shells all over the place). Absolutely fantastic customer service! I had Midtown Framing complete a custom frame holding a US Flag that I had flown for my parents over Afghanistan on an operational mission while I was a pilot in the Air Force. They helped me design the frame, but said that a job like this was going to take several weeks and probably wont be ready in time for the holidays as they were quite busy....but low and behold, I received a phone call the following week telling me that the frame was ready to be picked up!
