Phoenix Games really has everything you could ask for, and then some. There's a great selection of games and consoles from every generation. Games are organized alphabetically, with clear sections for each manufacturer, making your hunt for your latest video game obsession as easy as possible. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, with a lot of knowledge on the games they're offering if you have any questions. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well! Retro gaming can get expensive. I wouldn't say Phoenix Games is a bargain, but they're definitely not out to nickel and dime you from my experience. Overall, I'm always stoked to stop by when I'm in the area -- whether just to browse, or because I have a specific title in mind. read more

Mehh...ebay is kinda a better deal sometimes. Its cool I guess to go look at physical copys of the games. They didn't have the game I was looking for. They have an arcade thing you can pay and play. That is also cool. I think they should have more of an interactive showroom floor. Moreover the staff where friendly. read more

Great service great game and console selection highly recommended for retro games and collectibles

Two weeks ago, I was in the East Bay looking for a game store that sells retro games and consoles, and I randomly came across Phoenix Game on Google. I'm so glad I did! I was blown away by the huge selection of retro games they have everything from GameCube and Nintendo 64 to the OG Game Boy I needed for my collection! Their prices are super reasonable too. Honestly, I expected them to be way higher, but everything was priced fairly, which was a nice surprise. They even have an arcade area and some pinball machines in the back, which I thought was really cool. I didn't get a chance to try them out this time, but I definitely will on my next visit. Overall, it was such a fun experience, and I loved seeing so many retro systems -- even a few I'd never seen before. Highly recommend this place to any retro gaming fan! read more

Zero stars if possible DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. went into Phoenix Games with A bunch of older stuff Owner was absolutely disrespectful and kept getting mad when I was asking simple questions about games they had in stock & he got annoyed started acting like a child. Proceeded to say they'd only give me $109.80 for everything listed above^ + like 15 games that (GameStop wouldn't take) he knew he was being a cheapskate and tried to get me to trade it in by saying it just wasting gas and time going all the way to GameStop. Went over to GameStop within 30 mins before closing and the manager was great , took half the stuff and ended up with $370!!!! Not $109.80 like phoenix games told me. DONT WASTE UR TIME BUYING OR TRADING ANYTHING HERE. I used to support them for years but the way the manager with the Ponytail acted COMPLETELY LOST MY BUSINESS. read more

Phoenix Games - Go to GameStop, Simple as that! (Proof of items ,sold) - Videos & Video Game Rental Near Me - Concord, California

Sold me a faulty device and then didn't refund me when I had the receipt, employee mocked me when I simply asked where something was (it was a simple request and I didn't feel like it warranted being mocked for) game selection for PlayStation 2 is about the same games you would find at Goodwill but for the double or three times the price. So at the end of the day you have bad selection, high price, and unfriendly employees. I've had nicer experiences in a GameStop. And I'll stick to eBay next time I need something. Thanks for keeping my hard earned cash and selling me temu-level garbage read more

If you looking for it they got it! Very friendly staff and super cool and nostalgic. Pricing is fair

Friendly staff as usual. They specialize in retro gaming and have decent prices. It's always check here first before searching online. Organized by sections of what gaming system you want, it can be a quick in and out experience. They don't always have what I'm looking for but it's like a treasure hunt. read more

Do not, I repeat do not shop here, do not sell here, do not do business with them! They will lowball you can come up with excuses as to why they are lowballing you. Ridiculous. Last time I'm ever stepping into this establishment. Do better. Selection is mediocre as usual and value on games is meh. You're better off going to eBay or going Nostalgia Alley out in Petaluma. Also their staff pesters you constantly while you're looking around read more

I inherited a bunch of PlayStation games and needed a place to sell them. I called Phoenix Games and the guy I spoke to was polite and told me to come on by. When I arrived, he looked through the games quickly and professionally. He was able to buy most of them, and actually apologized for not being able to buy the others. He gave me a great price for the games he did buy. Great experience overall! read more

Absolutely the best video game store. Friendly staff and retro games at decent prices. They have a really great selection of games. I even saw games for the Sega Saturn. The back of the store has a section with pinball and arcade machines that you can play. Price was $5 for half an hour and $8 for a full hour. They had about 11 pinball machines. I was a little sad to see the pinball 2000 machine (Revenge From Mars) was out of order. There aren't that many of those machines, so I get excited whenever I see one read more

This place is a very nice place to find retro and current games and gaming materials. They fix disc games, do trade ins, and make recommendations. The customer service is always above and beyond. The environment is interning as well due to the pinball collection. Everything is priced fairly, usually less than but sometimes at market value. read more

I always stop by Phoenix Games when I'm nearby. It's definitely my favorite thing about Concord and a gem of the area! As soon as you walk into the store you're greeted by beautifully organized shelves and stands filled with games from all consoles and generations. (And for those who have always been dying to check out the retro gaming stores in Akihabara or Nakano, know that this store feels just like some of the most interesting looking shops there. ;) )The best stuff is kept at the counter or in the cages just under the islands in the center of the store. My favorite thing about the shop are the hidden gems in terms of accessories and parts. No retro gaming store I've ever been to in the US stocks and sells items like these and it's a huge part of what makes Phoenix stand out to me. We were lucky and happened to come in on a day where they had quite a few items I really needed, the best of which being this awesome looking N64 cartridge case. I had been thinking about getting one for some time now and was just about to make the purchase online, but felt disappointed by the lack of clean looking or well designed options. Luckily Phoenix had one that was sleek yet retro in its appearance, perfectly matching what I had in mind. I know a lot of people looking for retro games are quick to shop on eBay, Etsy, or garage sale apps and websites, but give Phoenix a try. Come by to talk with the super friendly and knowledgeable staff, enjoy the atmosphere of the store, and shop with confidence knowing the items here are tested and cleaned rather than risking it with an unknown seller online. If you're curious and a cautious shopper like me you'll find that all of the items here aren't marked up like crazy and on top of that you get it in your hands the same day instead of anxiously waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Support small businesses and keep wonderful stores like this thriving! read more

Simply put. One of the best video game stores. I love how they added NBA Jam to their arcade in the back! Great set up back there with the pinball machines read more

This is a pretty nice shop. The unique thing is that it has its own arcade in the back. I think it is five dollars for unlimited play. The store is very well organized and you are able to find quite a collection there. The stores have games from pretty much every system. I did not see any modded consoles. The worker there was busy calling customers on a list. They apparently have a service where you can put your name down for a particular console or game so if they ever get it in stock the will give you a call which I think is awesome. The pricing is okay for the most part. I am not an expert so it could be higher or lower for some games. The games so far do not look fake. They have tools to resurface disks. They do a good job cleaning up the games. Overall it is great place. It has plenty of options for games and provide a good service. read more

love this place. i've been here twice to have them help me with some GBA games, and they were very straightforward and understanding. they even valued some of the games i brought in, even though i wasn't looking to sell. they have a wide variety of games and consoles there and they're not unreasonably priced either. the people who helped me were amazing, and they even call you when they have something that you're looking for! five star place, made me feel like a kid again walking in. read more

Super cool place to find old games and play some arcade machines. Staff was super friendly.

Great place to visit if you like retro games! Staff all friendly and helpful. Large selection for purchase of games, accessories and most consoles. Video game lovers rejoice! We dug out our old Xbox 360 and needed to find games. This place has everything from the old-school Atari to the new school Switch and PlayStation games. I love that they have such a huge selection of everything so you can really spend your time looking for what you really want and the prices are so reasonable. I was offered help a couple of times with finding what I needed and was glad I did as I was looking in the wrong section at first. I will definitely come back for new and old games in the future. read more

I found this place on a Google search looking for game shops. I stopped by and was not disappointed. I've been looking for old school consoles for a long time, and the people here were really friendly and really took the time to walk me through their expansive collection. I hope they get a Gamecube or N64 in soon. Their prices sound incredibly reasonable for consoles that are pushing 25, 30 years. I'll hope the price matches the quality customer service. read more

So glad I live near here. They have so much to go through but more of my focus is on Sega. Employees here are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes I'm surprised how well they know their products when I ask to see a specific game and they know what's in the box before pulling it out lol. I've traded in a few things here and feel their offers are very fair for store credit. I just love feeling like I contribute to the store and seeing my trade ins sit on the shelf and selling fast. I was happy to recently trade in a GameCube game and get $50 towards a sega Saturn I've been eyeing! Their arcade is also very cool and if I remember correctly, it's $5 for 30 minutes in the arcade and everything is set to free play! Highly recommend this shop and enjoy stopping by weekly to see what's new read more

Avoid coming to this joke store. The owner "Chris" is an azz. He always giving other people crap attitude. He will also lowball you on your trade ins. He recently offered me $10 on call of duty black ops 6, a game just came out in less than a month. And he offered me $5 for Mario Party superstars game. This is the cheapest retro store in this area. If you really want good retro gaming experience, try San Jose. There are a few decent ones there. Or try "experience share video games" in Alameda. Do not ever take your games to this store for trade in. GameStop even pays more. read more

I had a copy of Pokemon Crystal and Silver that needed a battery replacement, costing $12/game. Several years ago, I attempted to replace them myself, but failed to get them saving with electric tape holding the batteries in place. Phoenix Games will solder the battery on, and validate each game saves with a 30 day warranty. What was particularly impressive is how they were able to troubleshoot and figure out a few issues with my Gameboy games. I had accidentally knocked off a resistor on Pokemon Crystal that opened the circuit to the battery, but they were able to replace with another resistor harvested from another Gameboy cartridge. I had a non-working copy of Pokemon Blue that was brought back to life. It had some corrosion on the cartridge they were able to clean off. The battery may have saved fine, but I had them replace it anyway. Gameboy/GBC games saved using a button cell (coin battery), which will fail at some point. I also left my non-working copy of Pokemon Red, and they will look at it in the next week or two. I purchased a copy of Pokemon Blue for a friend. Current going prices are around $35 (needs battery replacement) to as high as $55 (battery just replaced, tested) on ebay. At $60, the price is worth the piece of mind knowing Phoenix Games has confirmed the game is authentic, and a newly replaced battery will last a very long time. I personally have a copy of Pokemon Yellow that has never had its battery replaced, but they will fail at some point. The Transfer Pak is compatible with the N64 Pokemon Stadium games to easily trade between the Gameboy games so you can battle your friends with good teams. You'll need 2 Transfer Paks to trade between the Gameboy games on the N64, and it's a lot faster than trading with a Link Cable! The rental Pokemon included in the Pokemon Stadium games are not good. We used the Missingno glitch to duplicate items in Pokemon Red/Blue, and the clone Pokemon with held items glitch in Silver/Gold to ease the process. Overall, I highly recommend Phoenix Games, and I will definitely be back. read more

Great awesome staff and super knowledgeable and helpful! Dope place to check out for sure

Customer service is very poor . Communication and personal relations are not existing . The owners are oblivious and so are the workers they're too busy eating Taco Bell so frequently and someone walks in with cash in their pocket they can't even say hello to the customer or greet you in any sort of fashion to make you feel comfortable in the store . They have a little selection and not many rare finds at all read more

When it's time to move, it's time to clean up, get rid of stuff, donate, sell, do whatever it takes to move less crap. And old video games that don't get played anymore do nothing but collect dust. So, why not sell them here! Or trade them in for new ones. Now, before initially coming here, I organized about twenty different video games that I had sitting around: PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and a few PC games. I first went to a local GameStop, and was pretty much offered pennies for my games. Booooo!!! They didn't accept PC games, nor does anyone I believe, but GS only offered me $3 in total for 8 console games. PASS, I'll keep them. Then I had a thought, why not see what Phoenix Games would offer? I arrived and my eyes were just amazed by the huge library of every game out there, as well as seeing the old consoles they carry. It was similar to it's competitor GameStop, only not as flashy and modern. Relatively about the same in store size. Only GS relies heavily on newer titles to sell quickly, and getting more of their value out of trades. Understandable. Phoenix Games felt more like an old baseball card shop. A feeling I miss from the early 90s. Not to mention seeing the vintage Vectrex console and PONG. So, I present my games to the lady at the register, Cai. Mind you she gave me excellent service. I had an offer, and we came to an agreement; 10 games, $17 of store credit or $10 cash. Whoa, I thought! Were they for real? This offer versus crappy GS's offer of three bucks! Cool deal, I took the cash. Had I not been moving away, I would've definitely taken the store credit. No hassle, no fuss, no problems. While waiting for Cai to go through my games, I gave the whole store a rundown and was taken back even more. Why? Because they have an old school arcade and pinball section in the back! Really cool, it's like the 80s all over again. You wanna relive playing TRON with a joystick an paddle, they've got it! Pac-man and Joust, it's here! Or if you're just modern gaming fanboy, they've got little tournament chairs set up as well. Really RAD! Check it out if you can! read more

Large variety of used games! I actually found this place through a recommendation of a GameStop employee. I've been searching everywhere in store for used Rock Band/ Guitar Hero games for Wii.
