I was blown away by the huge selection of retro games they have everything from GameCube and Nintendo 64 to the OG Game Boy I needed for my collection! Their prices are super reasonable too. Honestly, I expected them to be way higher, but everything was priced fairly, which was a nice surprise. They even have an arcade area and some pinball machines in the back, which I thought was really cool. I didn't get a chance to try them out this time, but I definitely will on my next visit. Sold me a faulty device and then didn't refund me when I had the receipt, employee mocked me when I simply asked where something was (it was a simple request and I didn't feel like it warranted being mocked for) game selection for PlayStation 2 is about the same games you would find at Goodwill but for the double or three times the price. Absolutely the best video game store. Friendly staff and retro games at decent prices. They have a really great selection of games. I even saw games for the Sega Saturn. The back of the store has a section with pinball and arcade machines that you can play. Price was $5 for half an hour and $8 for a full hour. They had about 11 pinball machines. I was a little sad to see the pinball 2000 machine (Revenge From Mars) was out of order. There aren't that many of those machines, so I get excited whenever I see one read more

This is a pretty nice shop. The unique thing is that it has its own arcade in the back. I think it is five dollars for unlimited play. The store is very well organized and you are able to find quite a collection there. The stores have games from pretty much every system. I did not see any modded consoles. The worker there was busy calling customers on a list. They apparently have a service where you can put your name down for a particular console or game so if they ever get it in stock the will give you a call which I think is awesome. The pricing is okay for the most part. I am not an expert so it could be higher or lower for some games. The games so far do not look fake. They have tools to resurface disks. They do a good job cleaning up the games. Overall it is great place. It has plenty of options for games and provide a good service. read more

I always stop by Phoenix Games when I'm nearby. It's definitely my favorite thing about Concord and a gem of the area! As soon as you walk into the store you're greeted by beautifully organized shelves and stands filled with games from all consoles and generations. So glad I live near here. They have so much to go through but more of my focus is on Sega. Employees here are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes I'm surprised how well they know their products when I ask to see a specific game and they know what's in the box before pulling it out lol. I've traded in a few things here and feel their offers are very fair for store credit. I just love feeling like I contribute to the store and seeing my trade ins sit on the shelf and selling fast. I was happy to recently trade in a GameCube game and get $50 towards a sega Saturn I've been eyeing! I had a copy of Pokemon Crystal and Silver that needed a battery replacement, costing $12/game. Several years ago, I attempted to replace them myself, but failed to get them saving with electric tape holding the batteries in place. Phoenix Games will solder the battery on, and validate each game saves with a 30 day warranty. What was particularly impressive is how they were able to troubleshoot and figure out a few issues with my Gameboy games. I had accidentally knocked off a resistor on Pokemon Crystal that opened the circuit to the battery, but they were able to replace with another resistor harvested from another Gameboy cartridge. I had a non-working copy of Pokemon Blue that was brought back to life. It had some corrosion on the cartridge they were able to clean off. The battery may have saved fine, but I had them replace it anyway. Gameboy/GBC games saved using a button cell (coin battery), which will fail at some point. I also left my non-working copy of Pokemon Red, and they will look at it in the next week or two. I purchased a copy of Pokemon Blue for a friend. Current going prices are around $35 (needs battery replacement) to as high as $55 (battery just replaced, tested) on ebay. At $60, the price is worth the piece of mind knowing Phoenix Games has confirmed the game is authentic, and a newly replaced battery will last a very long time. I personally have a copy of Pokemon Yellow that has never had its battery replaced, but they will fail at some point. The Transfer Pak is compatible with the N64 Pokemon Stadium games to easily trade between the Gameboy games so you can battle your friends with good teams. You'll need 2 Transfer Paks to trade between the Gameboy games on the N64, and it's a lot faster than trading with a Link Cable! The rental Pokemon included in the Pokemon Stadium games are not good. We used the Missingno glitch to duplicate items in Pokemon Red/Blue, and the clone Pokemon with held items glitch in Silver/Gold to ease the process. Overall, I highly recommend Phoenix Games, and I will definitely be back. read more

I first went to a local GameStop, and was pretty much offered pennies for my games. Booooo!!! They didn't accept PC games, nor does anyone I believe, but GS only offered me $3 in total for 8 console games. PASS, I'll keep them. Then I had a thought, why not see what Phoenix Games would offer? I arrived and my eyes were just amazed by the huge library of every game out there, as well as seeing the old consoles they carry. It was similar to it's competitor GameStop, only not as flashy and modern. Relatively about the same in store size. Only GS relies heavily on newer titles to sell quickly, and getting more of their value out of trades. Understandable. Phoenix Games felt more like an old baseball card shop. A feeling I miss from the early 90s. Not to mention seeing the vintage Vectrex console and PONG. So, I present my games to the lady at the register, Cai. Mind you she gave me excellent service. I had an offer, and we came to an agreement; 10 games, $17 of store credit or $10 cash. Whoa, I thought! Were they for real? This offer versus crappy GS's offer of three bucks! Cool deal, I took the cash. Had I not been moving away, I would've definitely taken the store credit. No hassle, no fuss, no problems. While waiting for Cai to go through my games, I gave the whole store a rundown and was taken back even more. Why? Because they have an old school arcade and pinball section in the back! Really cool, it's like the 80s all over again. You wanna relive playing TRON with a joystick an paddle, they've got it! Pac-man and Joust, it's here! Or if you're just modern gaming fanboy, they've got little tournament chairs set up as well. Really RAD! Check it out if you can! read more
