What an awesome book shop! They've got a bit of everything - apparel, fandom gear, vinyl, cassettes, CDs, current books, vintage books, collectible editions, signed editions, newspapers and magazines, clearance items, games (both tabletop and console)....not sure if I'm missing anything else. They also buy! There's a nicely-stocked kids area, and clean bathrooms as well. Friendly service too. If you're interested in different editions (Easton Press, Illumicrate, FairyLoot, etc.), there's a special section, but sometimes they have them in the regular shelves. While the prices are certainly lower than retail for these editions, they are about on par with what you could find on eBay. Still, it's nice to be able to see and hold the editions first! read more

I brought in about 12 business strategy and teaming books - many never read in perfect condition, 1 expensive large format hardcover watercolor art book also in perfect condition, and a full bag of other books and was paid $7. Probably a good place to buy books but I left feeling like I had been fully ripped off at about .25 cents per book and mad at myself for giving them the books. I probably didn't cover my cost to drive there and I would have been better served donating them. read more

Torn on how I feel about this place. Sometimes you find decent deals, but lately things seem way overpriced. I found an art book I really wanted but it was selling for $105. I looked it up on eBay and it was selling for half that in a much better condition. Since I still wanted it, I asked if they could budge on the price. While they were willing to go down to $50 I could still get a better version online for less. (I asked for $40 which I still think was more than it should have been, it was in bad condition). I also saw that they had a Trump book in the cabinet for $1500 which is just wild to me. eBay first edition SIGNED is $700 at most so I don't know why they priced it that way, not that I have ANY interest in buying it. We also bought some cds there since my husband and I were getting into them, but realized at Rasputin they were a fraction of the price ($7 at half price and .50 at Rasputin). I was disappointed and felt like it was a huge ripoff. That said, it's still a good place to go and I do love supporting book stores. My most recent visit to Half Price Books was a good one -- and I vow to return soon. No ageism or rudeness like I so often found when HPB was at Todos Santos. Kudos to Sara who was staffing the checkout desk at the front of the store. Very pleasant young woman. No other customers in line so we chatted about our love of vintage jewelry. (She likes star-themed jewelry, too!) Also talked about one of my purchases, "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" by Haruki Murakami. Taking my reading in a different direction, I bought a couple of "vintage" Daphne Du Maurier books. Happy to stumble on two I was unfamiliar with. With its rather tattered book jacket, The Flight of the Falcon caught my attention. Set in Italy, not Cornwall where most Du Maurier's novels take place. The other, Don't Look Now, is a collection of short stories and includes The Birds (inspiration for the Hitchcock film). Looks like a good read. HPB also has a decent selection of boxes cards, journals, and gift items. Found a fun stocking stuffer. (Yes, I buy stocking stuffers year round ... see it, like it, grab it.) My only complaint is that HPB only has large tote bags if you need a bag for your purchases. I understand why they don't have plastic but paper would be a nice option. I wouldn't suggest selling here. They rip you off. I sold some comic books here and they barely offered me anything. The buyer told me that they sell the comics at half of their cover price and that they could only offer me a fraction of that. Okay, sounds logical until you go see the prices they put on their comics. They don't sell them for half of the cover price, they sell them for 5-7 times the cover price. For example, if the cover price was $1.50 then the comic should have been 75 cents (by the sellers logic), yet most of their comics that sat around that price were being sold for $5, $7, $9 dollars. Straight up lied to and scammed. I looked through rows of their comics and found none that were half of their cover price. If you're trying to recoup anything from selling your books or media don't do it here. read more

What is not to like about this place! You can literally find anything and more of what you are looking for here. We picked up a couple of good reads for the kids - one elementary age and one teen. I picked up a game and puzzle. All for under $30! What a steal! I love just walking around this store and seeing what there is to offer - lots of used and new books and goodies all around. Just take your time and walk around and I betcha you will find more than what you thought you would find. They also buy books and other items - I have not tried this service yet but always think about it due to how many books my kids collect and never get rid of - maybe one day! Great book store with a really great selection at reasonable prices. They have almost everything I'm looking for including some sweet genre books and a great collection of graphic novels. Also they have some pretty nice video game deals too, though obviously that fluctuates. Overall a great place to visit. read more

Nice bookstore and a quiet corner, shopping area. They carry both new and used books. I've only looked in the kids side, but have bought 3-6 books per recent visits. Good selection & great discounted prices. My family, the kids enjoyed picking out books. Very happy bookstores are still here, I don't like reading through my ipad or phone. I miss the old HPB in Todo Santos. Much better selection and pricing. I brought in four vintage NES games still in their original boxes with instructions. They must be high because was offered $13. The manager who looks like Jeffrey Dahmer told me not to ever come back after disrespecting me with their slap in the face offer. Theyve done it before and I dumbly accepted their offer. Don't sell your stuff here. If you worked hard for it, keep it and continue to enjoy it. You won't get any good offers here. They will tell you "the reason you didn't get more of an offer is because we don't sell this". I sold them a Lemmy(Motorhead) POP figure and they offered me $2, telling me it would be hard to sell. The store is nice but a little too small in willows location. Parking is better at new location. They will give you lowball offers for stuff, even lower since covid. Only sell if you really just want stuff taken off your hands, anything valuable should not be sold here. The customer service is better than other bay area hps but that's not saying much. Manager josh will talk down to you and jake is a liar who lied to my face about availability of certain books in store bc he was too lazy to look for them when they were taken off hold shelf and put in the back. They reappeared on store shelves a month later. The employees do engage in ageism and judged me by my appearance.( i look haggard for my age and look approximately 10 years older than actual age since my mid 20s.) It was such a fun experience going to the store from my mid 20s to mid 30s and being judged by my physical appearance. hipster, snoody employees like chelsea, laura and ashley engaged in ageism towards me when they were actually 1-5 years younger than me but I'm was 34 going on 45 and some of them were 33 going on 25. New location for the half price book store in Concord. Located in the Willow shopping center, near the Old Navy. I believe it was the old picture or frame store. Great corner location & its across the street from Jamba Juice so If you need to hydrate yourself after soaking in all that knowledge. Your set! Heard it just recently opened this past Thursday 11/21/19. I received a text this morning that there was kids story telling at 2 pm at all locations. Since I was already in Pleasant Hill hanging out with family, we decided to check it with the kids. It was very busy since it was a Saturday afternoon, the line to pay was about 15 or so people when I got in line but the associates were very pleasant, all were working hard and the line went quickly. The store was nicely laid out, Kids section in the back of the store. The CDs & records in the front by the registers. My favorite clearance section in the back right corner. I Always find great books from $1-$3 in this section. Overall, I do believe this is a better location with more parking compared to older store. read more

OMG I can't believe I've not written a review of this place yet. Sorry it's late!! I've been going here since I was a little kid and when it was in down town concord. I love this place so much. The array of books they have at really good prices is amazing. I also love the fact that you're able to sell back your books the whole reuse, reduce, recycle is amazing. The staff here is sooooooo helpful and the fact that they are still working during covid and still as helpful is sooo nice. They have always assisted me in finding the book/s I wanted even if it's not in store. I love all the novelty items as well because you can't find stuff like that everywhere. Came here to sell stacks of books back that I haven't looked at in some time. Was met at the receiving desk by a lovely young lady that took my id, phone number, and gave me an estimated wait time. I browsed while waiting for my quote. Wait was about 45 minutes. They still have a great variety of new and used books. Something for everyone. Heard my name called on the speaker and got my quote which was $10. Pretty much the price I paid for two of the books in the pile. I agreed cuz they were going to do the work of selling it and I wasn't, so they deserved it. Signed the receipt took it up to the front and received my cash. Would I do it again? Sure why not. I'm trying to make space and have way too many books at home. When I have some free time I might sell some myself. But until then, it's a nice trade. read more

Half Price Books opens in Willow Shopping Center. it's across from Jamba Juice. store is smaller than previous Concord store but well purposed. books are alphabetized in labeled sections. just following the signs/labels it's easy to find certain books. if unable to find ur book, u can ask store to check their chain inventory. if they have it, they'll ship it to u. while this store has more selections than other HP Book stores, there's always room for improvement. audiobooks, vinyl records also seen. aisles are wide. while standing very close to a bookstand, my clothing was "brushed" by an young adult. who didn't say anything nor turn around. looking up, i saw a young female following who said "sorry" as she was passing by though she didn't bump me at all. parking isn't easy here anymore. read more

When Half Price Books at Todos Los Santos Square was closing, my entire family was sad. It was one of the few bargain bookstores close to home that my entire family loved. I found out that Half Price Books Concord was not closing for good but simply moving to another outdoor strip mall, specifically the Willow Center. It is near UFC Gym, Krispy Kreme and Benihana this time. Besides being close to the freeway this time, I love the new, modern, sleek, light-filled, and spacious Half Price Books! The new location is less hectic and has better parking as well. Kudos to the new Half Price Books store, it's new location and it's better parking. With its bargain books, music and materials, this store can only get better! This will be a new hangout for my fambam. read more

Concord is happy to have this great bookstore in the city. The new location of Half Price Books is just amazing. The old Aaron Brothers became the hang out place for Half Price Books. A great location near Jamba Juice and Old Navy. I am very proud of the new home for Half Price Books. As a loyal customer that been bringing his books and DVDs for money I am great that Half Price Books is still in Concord. Same ol face with better service. Half Price Books got the same service that it had when it was at Todas Santos Plaze. I get great service at Half Price Books. I love the bigger space that Half Price Books occupy. Much wider space to walk around. Seem like the selection of Blu-Ray/DVDs gotten bigger. Finally two restroom instead of one (I don't have to wait for it to be free). Lots of parking spaces at this location. You don't have to walk very far or roam around the lot to find a space compare to the old location. Hopefully Barnes & Noble and Half Price Books can get along. They are not far from each other. Both places attracts lots of people. read more

I've been going to this store for many years, including at their old Todos Santos location before this location opened. I've always been pleased with the selection, as well as the prices. I normally have a good experience reselling my books here but today was a complete waste of my time. I was told it would be a 40 min wait. After an hour I checked in to see if my turn was coming up. There were 2 employees at the desk and they were both busy cleaning CD's since the time I brought my items in. The employee had a rude tone in her voice and told me it would be 5 more min while she continued to clean off CD's with Clorox wipes for the next 15 min. When I asked again, she said 5 more min. The other employee was also wiping down CD's and had told me that it would be 5 min. After hearing that so many times, I clued in that they weren't going to get to my items. She said it would be another 1/2 hr once they began checking in my items. It was absolutely absurd that these 2 employees stood behind the desk and continued "cleaning" while not helping other customers. After waiting and not seeing any progress in the queue , I took my cart full of books and games and left. These employees were not honest about managing expectations. They seemed absolutely dismissive and continued to "clean" rather than take in my items. Bad attitude. Bad management. read more

I used to be a fan of Half Price Books Concord in the Todos Santos Plaza. I was informed a couple of years ago they wouldn't take any returns older than 20 years from publishing date. Now they won't take back the paperback books from THEIR store, bought within the previous 6 months, less than 20 years from publication, but "not current". They have lost this customer.
