On my first trip ever to Martinez, we stopped by this two-story shop and did not know what to expect. It was advertised as a furniture shop but man did it feel like I was walking into a toy store for adults. From refurbished furniture to toys, stuffed plushies to holiday antiques, this shop literally had everything for the curious passer-byer. The shop clerks were so friendly in showing what the store offers and it was a lot of fun to see what old things are kept and now sold. We dropped on by during the holidays so naturally there was a lot of Christmas themed decor everywhere. It was nice to walk through this store without feeling like it was too overwhelming. The individual business owners have done a great job in displaying their goods and I appreciate the lovely IKEA-esque antique realness. If you've got time, definitely swing by and just marvel at the craft of these business owners, and who knows - you may end up taking home a piece of new furniture to really liven up your home.

"Are these folks professional interior decorators?" I asked the two nice ladies who were checking out customers today. They explained that the sellers in the store really have a good eye for displaying merchandise. The store is actually a composite of individual sellers, who rent space in the building. Almost every single seller had an outstanding display of various merchandise. Many of them were running sales. It was a lot of fun just browsing through all the different seller spaces. I wasn't sure if upstairs was open today. The very front of the store has interesting types of painting supplies. I did not even know there was such a thing as milk paint, but if you want it they have lots of it here. I like the store, and I don't even like antiques!

Large ceramic llama (alpaca?). Dog for scale.

I just bought a large ceramic llama ( alpaca? ) for my birthday! The staff are so nice and helpful! The piece was high on a shelf so they had to call someone to help us get it down. Alex got it down from the shelf, down the stairs, and into my car. I'm so happy with my purchase, I love it here!

Perfect size table for my narrow entry. Both book accessory and table are from Home Goods by Genni Low.

Le Marche Emporium is such a hidden gem for finding unique items!  It's two stories packed with beautifully displayed merchandise. The Emporium is only open one weekend a month, so be sure to call or look at their website for hours before going.  As an added bonus, parking on weekends is free! I went during the weekend and came back with a bounty of exceptional home and outdoor accessories, furnishings, and a lighthouse painting mounted on white-wash, reclaimed wood.  I bought several delightful items from Home Goods by Genni Low that I really need to highlight.  I couldn't resist her sweet tables. Her restoration of vintage furniture was so beautiful, bringing out the natural beauty in the wood, and her attention to detail really makes her pieces special.  It's evident that each piece is a labor of love. I will definitely look for her furnishings and accessories the next time that I visit Le Marche Emporium. I found too many items from Le Marche's outdoor displays as well that I wanted to take home. I finally settled on a red tractor birdhouse and a whimsical cat mobile.  I can't help but smile looking at all my great finds this past weekend.

Christmas decor is on display

Martinez seems to have found its niche as an East Bay spot for vintage and antique shopping. Olde Towne Antiques seems to be the epicenter of it all with its large window displays and well thought out vignettes throughout the store. They recently added Shabby Creek (formally in Walnut Creek) as a vendor which has added even more charm to their large space. While the downstairs has regular business hours, the upstairs tenant is Junk 2 Gems which host a monthly market (usually the 3rd Thursday-Sunday of each month) for well curated vintage wares. I've been a few times and most recently attended their holiday market. They had a charming selection of Christmas wares, that bring a well needed touch of nostalgia to the holidays. I haven't yet found "the" piece to take home with me but I plan on coming by monthly. There are several other nearby shops, the Sunday farmer's market and some places to grab a bite to eat, where you can make a nice day out of it. Check out their Facebook page for their posting of events and when they put up new window displays. Shop local at this friendly shop.

Adorable Palm Springs style patio chairs from the 60s

I visited Old Towne Antiques during the Martinez Vintage Market, and discovered "Junk 2 Gems." They had a massive sale going on, and I was able to snag some beautiful vintage chairs from the 60's, Palm Springs style. I will definitely be back to visit!

I have been dying to try this shop. I will say, they have some darling things. Here is the rub. While upstairs, one of the workers named Linda, who was delightful, enticed us by inviting us into the 75 percent off booth. She told us that everything in the entire booth was 75 percent off the marked price. There was a basket of barbies and my daughter selected one that was marked ten dollars and I verified the price of 2.50 with Linda. She also selected a game that was marked 6 dollars which would be marked down to 1.50. We then were looking for a price on a holiday, collectible barbie, that was on a shelf in this same section. LInda took a photo of it and sent it via text downstairs for pricing. After the text was not answered (ten minutes had passed and a second text was sent) she sent us downstairs and told us to tell them that she had texted. We told them that Linda had texted and we needed a price on the collectible barbie. The lady at the register said they had been too busy to answer texts but they would charge the same price for the collectible doll as the other doll we had chosen,( which LInda had said would be 2.50). I even offered to pay more for the collectible doll and she said not to worry about it. When I looked at the receipt I noted I had been charged full price for the game (which btw also had a goodwill tag on the front and back of it for 3.99) and the barbie dolls. When I questioned it she said that the game had already been marked down by 75 percent and that the barbie dolls must have been moved from another booth. I stated that in fact there was an entire basket of barbies in the booth and I thought she could verify this with Linda. Linda had clearly stated that the items would be charged at 75 percent off the ticketed price. By their screwy logic of the items already being marked down, the mostly naked, non collectible barbie tossed in a bin of other naked barbies would have had to have started out as 40.00 and the game valued by goodwill as 3.99 (the tags were on it from goodwill) had originally been priced at Le Marche Emporium as 24.00. What a scam despite the tag saying 6.00. I hate being cheated and it looks bad for the City of Martinez to have a shop that does this. I made them take back naked barbie and I should have made them take back everything including the full priced items I purchased from other booths. I hate being cheated, regardless of by how much. Buyer beware!

Holy headless baby doll Batman! If you want rows and rows and rows of stuff, with the occasional antique thrown in, you have stumbled into the right spot. I found an antique mink shrug for $80. My husband wouldn't let me buy it though. Buying antique fur really doesn't count because doesn't it cancel out if the original owner is dead now too? There are nooks and cranny's and stair cases leading to more rows and rows of goodies. A glowing globe, a spinning crystal like Coors sign, a few California Raisins that are probably not worth more than 5 cents. I saw a Miss Piggy statue. A jade elephant with another elephant carved inside of it. There is just to much for one eye to take in. The prices seemed reasonable. Of coarse, I'm not the the most savy when it comes to antiques. For a unique gift idea, I would come here. However, I do think that the antique stores are an anchor around the neck of Martinez and if these were gone there could be more room for good future growth for this town.

A Captain Marvel (the original Fawcett/DC version - Later know as Shazam) refrigerator! Awesome! Signed by the artist!

When it arrived the ceramic top was damaged so I was told to not accept it and Ken located another one with the right combination of top and legs. When that arrived, it also had been damaged in shipping and Ken said to reject it and he found another one- same problem. I guess the porcelain tops are very fragile and require more delicate handling. Ken never gave up in the quest to deliver the perfect table I had ordered and was communicative and proactive throughout the ongoing issues never complaining once. They just delivered the 4th table which arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't be happier. I've never had such a positive experience from what was ostensibly a terrible one. Calligaris had discontined the combination I originally ordered in the meantime, but Ken persisted in getting that original combination shipped from Italy. Ken, thanks for your persistence, patience and follow-through. I can not recommend you and your store more highly!!

I called the store to initiate a return, fully referencing the return policy clearly listed on Ashley's website: "If you wish to return your furniture for preference reasons within 3 days, the original delivery fee will not be refunded and a 15% restocking fee will be charged." I understood the policy and was willing to follow it. Yet when I called, the sales rep refused to help and hung up on me. Multiple times. I tried calling back thinking it was a mistake, but the same behavior continued. No willingness to listen, no explanation, no support -- just dial tones. I spent over $3,000 on this purchase, and this is how your customers are treated? It's unacceptable and honestly unbelievable. Someone from Ashley needs to respond and remedy this immediately because experiences like this are exactly how you lose loyal customers.
