On my first trip ever to Martinez, we stopped by this two-story shop and did not know what to expect. It was advertised as a furniture shop but man did it feel like I was walking into a toy store for adults. From refurbished furniture to toys, stuffed plushies to holiday antiques, this shop literally had everything for the curious passer-byer. The shop clerks were so friendly in showing what the store offers and it was a lot of fun to see what old things are kept and now sold. We dropped on by during the holidays so naturally there was a lot of Christmas themed decor everywhere. It was nice to walk through this store without feeling like it was too overwhelming. The individual business owners have done a great job in displaying their goods and I appreciate the lovely IKEA-esque antique realness. If you've got time, definitely swing by and just marvel at the craft of these business owners, and who knows - you may end up taking home a piece of new furniture to really liven up your home.

"Are these folks professional interior decorators?" I asked the two nice ladies who were checking out customers today. They explained that the sellers in the store really have a good eye for displaying merchandise. The store is actually a composite of individual sellers, who rent space in the building. Almost every single seller had an outstanding display of various merchandise. Many of them were running sales. It was a lot of fun just browsing through all the different seller spaces. I wasn't sure if upstairs was open today. The very front of the store has interesting types of painting supplies. I did not even know there was such a thing as milk paint, but if you want it they have lots of it here. I like the store, and I don't even like antiques!

Perfect size table for my narrow entry. Both book accessory and table are from Home Goods by Genni Low.

Le Marche Emporium is such a hidden gem for finding unique items!  It's two stories packed with beautifully displayed merchandise. The Emporium is only open one weekend a month, so be sure to call or look at their website for hours before going.  As an added bonus, parking on weekends is free! I went during the weekend and came back with a bounty of exceptional home and outdoor accessories, furnishings, and a lighthouse painting mounted on white-wash, reclaimed wood.  I bought several delightful items from Home Goods by Genni Low that I really need to highlight.  I couldn't resist her sweet tables. Her restoration of vintage furniture was so beautiful, bringing out the natural beauty in the wood, and her attention to detail really makes her pieces special.  It's evident that each piece is a labor of love. I will definitely look for her furnishings and accessories the next time that I visit Le Marche Emporium. I found too many items from Le Marche's outdoor displays as well that I wanted to take home. I finally settled on a red tractor birdhouse and a whimsical cat mobile.  I can't help but smile looking at all my great finds this past weekend.

Large ceramic llama (alpaca?). Dog for scale.

I just bought a large ceramic llama ( alpaca? ) for my birthday! The staff are so nice and helpful! The piece was high on a shelf so they had to call someone to help us get it down. Alex got it down from the shelf, down the stairs, and into my car. I'm so happy with my purchase, I love it here!

Martinez seems to have found its niche as an East Bay spot for vintage and antique shopping. Olde Towne Antiques seems to be the epicenter of it all with its large window displays and well thought out vignettes throughout the store. They recently added Shabby Creek (formally in Walnut Creek) as a vendor which has added even more charm to their large space. While the downstairs has regular business hours, the upstairs tenant is Junk 2 Gems which host a monthly market (usually the 3rd Thursday-Sunday of each month) for well curated vintage wares. I've been a few times and most recently attended their holiday market. They had a charming selection of Christmas wares, that bring a well needed touch of nostalgia to the holidays. I haven't yet found "the" piece to take home with me but I plan on coming by monthly. There are several other nearby shops, the Sunday farmer's market and some places to grab a bite to eat, where you can make a nice day out of it. Check out their Facebook page for their posting of events and when they put up new window displays. Shop local at this friendly shop.

I visited Old Towne Antiques during the Martinez Vintage Market, and discovered "Junk 2 Gems." They had a massive sale going on, and I was able to snag some beautiful vintage chairs from the 60's, Palm Springs style. I will definitely be back to visit!

Holy headless baby doll Batman! If you want rows and rows and rows of stuff, with the occasional antique thrown in, you have stumbled into the right spot. I found an antique mink shrug for $80. My husband wouldn't let me buy it though. Buying antique fur really doesn't count because doesn't it cancel out if the original owner is dead now too? There are nooks and cranny's and stair cases leading to more rows and rows of goodies. A glowing globe, a spinning crystal like Coors sign, a few California Raisins that are probably not worth more than 5 cents. I saw a Miss Piggy statue. A jade elephant with another elephant carved inside of it. There is just to much for one eye to take in. The prices seemed reasonable. Of coarse, I'm not the the most savy when it comes to antiques. For a unique gift idea, I would come here. However, I do think that the antique stores are an anchor around the neck of Martinez and if these were gone there could be more room for good future growth for this town.

When it arrived the ceramic top was damaged so I was told to not accept it and Ken located another one with the right combination of top and legs. When that arrived, it also had been damaged in shipping and Ken said to reject it and he found another one- same problem. I guess the porcelain tops are very fragile and require more delicate handling. Ken never gave up in the quest to deliver the perfect table I had ordered and was communicative and proactive throughout the ongoing issues never complaining once. They just delivered the 4th table which arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't be happier. I've never had such a positive experience from what was ostensibly a terrible one. Calligaris had discontined the combination I originally ordered in the meantime, but Ken persisted in getting that original combination shipped from Italy. Ken, thanks for your persistence, patience and follow-through. I can not recommend you and your store more highly!!

I had no idea what style of chair I was looking for so lucky for me this store had a large variety to chose from. I was going to shop around a bit before making the purchase but I met the owner and he was so so so sweet and had a really funny sense of humor. I appreciate laughter. The chair I decided to go with was on back order but I was in no rush since I had a few months before my baby was due so that was not a problem. Once I received the chair from the manufacturer, it had a squeaking noise. A sound enough to drive yourself your crazy when trying to rock your baby to sleep. Not a good combination. I decided to call the store and spoke with the owner. He was EXTREMELY nice and worked REALLY HARD to resolve the issue. It took a few weeks for the manufacture to get back to the store owner but what I appreciated was the consistent line of communication on his end. He called multiple times updating me with any information he had and let me know I am still a priority in resolving the issue. It was eventually resolved and I couldn't be happier. We love our recliner and I plan on having this chair for many years! This store has a wonderful selection with high quality items. I definitely recommend buying from Clayton Furniture. This was easily one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I've had with any business.I went in looking for a sturdy bed frame and made it VERY clear to Tony that I did not want something flimsy or cheap because I've had one break before. I specifically asked about the return policy twice and both times he confidently told me there was a 30 day return policy. Based on that, I trusted him and spent $400 on a king-size bed frame. Big mistake. I picked it up, it was built the SAME DAY, and the second I got onto the bed, it literally broke. Not after weeks or even days. Immediately. That is beyond unacceptable. A $400 bed frame should not collapse instantly. I could have bought something cheaper online that would've lasted longer than a few seconds. When I called the next day to figure out a solution, I was met with attitude right away. Instead of helping, the person on the phone acted like I was the problem. Then I'm suddenly told there is NO 30-day return policy?? I was told to come in and speak with the owner, so I did go in and Tony was there, and the moment I mentioned the bed breaking, his entire attitude changed. He became defensive, rude, and completely unprofessional. Instead of taking accountability, he tried to blame me and say I "built it wrong," which is ridiculous. I wasn't the one who built it, my father was and he even told me that the bed frame looks really flimsy and low quality. The frame was assembled correctly it's just extremely cheap and poorly made. What's even worse is that the "30-day return policy" he sold me on magically turned into a "30-day warranty for parts." That was NEVER explained upfront. That's misleading at best. His solution? For me to email them the broken part so they could replace it. Meaning I'm stuck fixing a brand new, already broken bed myself. Not only that but even if they do get me the same part I'm still going to have to buy better, sturdier, and stronger parts which is going to make the price for this horrible bed frame go up even more. I should not have to put more money into a bed frame I paid $400 for. I sent the email as requested, and it has now been 12 days with absolutely no follow-up, no resolution, nothing. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The products are cheaply made, the customer service is terrible, and the way they handle issues is unacceptable. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values honesty and quality.

At first, we were excited because the couch we purchased is nice and comfortable. We spent around $2,000 on furniture and paid an additional $200 delivery fee. The sales associate clearly told us that delivery would include removal of our old couches. That did not happen... When the movers arrived on Thursday, they delivered the new couch but refused to take the old ones. We were left with FOUR couches crammed into our living room and hallways, making our apartment basically unusable. When we asked the movers, they said it wasn't on their order. To make the matters worse, we tipped the movers under the impression they would be handling everything as promised ... but they simply left. When the movers called their supervisor asking for approval to pick up the old furniture, their supervisor said "No. Just leave. I need you guys at the next location." We contacted the store immediately, and the associate said because she forgot to notate it on the invoice that the old furniture needs to be removed, she would find someone to pick them up later that night. No one came. The next day, Friday, we followed up again and were told someone would "for sure" come Monday, leaving us with a claustrophobic living room for an entire weekend. Monday came and we received a call saying there was nothing they could do. No pickup. No solution. We were then offered a $100 store credit because apparently that's all they could do after spending $2,000+ and dealing with a situation that made our home unlivable for days. This entire issue happened because the associate failed to note the furniture removal on the order. We ended up having to rent a U-Haul and haul the couches to the dump ourselves, paying additional costs out of pocket. This experience was extremely frustrating and inconvenient. The lack of accountability and follow through is unacceptable. We will not be returning. We initially thought we would be able to purchase all of our furniture here, as we're in the process of replacing everything. However, after this experience, we will not be coming back. Originally, we planned to get an entire new set of furniture that same day & I'm honestly so glad we didn't because I can't imagine having double of everything in this case.
