They have what my son was looking for and some extra cool stuff too. They had a variety but was surprise to find the Mega Venusaur ex trading cards. What i got excited is that the pricing was very reasonable and cheaper than Amazon. Another reason why I would highly recommend this place is their awesome service, the owner made it extra specially by giving my son a freebie. Although he didnt know how much my son was patient about it he somehow made it valuable for my son that patience pays off. It was an amazing experience for both my son and for myself. I highly recommend this store.

First of all not ADA friendly, on the second floor, cramped, and very uncomfortable environment. We were greeted warmly at first, but then guy at the counter, said some condescending words to my wife. When she asked about One Piece sets and learning how to play, he said, " Follow us on Discord, you know what that is right?" She immediately clapped back at him and said, "yep surprisingly I do, and I use social media all the time." So if you want to be treated with disrespect, and treated like you should be cooking in the kitchen, and be a 1950's house wife, well then this is the place for you! A place of bad body odor, cramped spaces and sexist remarks, from this ignorant caveman. - 0/10 Overall: A terrible experience. Do yourself a favor and hit up other shops in Martinez, like DVY Collectibles LLC, much better customer service and very ADA friendly.

Immediately, a staff member greeted me and introduced me to a group of people, encouraging me to exchange information with them. I was a bit too shy to join in that night, but I really appreciated the effort. You gotta love a place that goes that far to make a "noob" feel included. During a more recent visit without all the tables of people, it's still a cozy store with a warm and inviting environment. Upon walking in, I could tell the staff genuinely enjoyed being there. As I was browsing, a staff member told me about their puzzle trade. For a few bucks, you can trade the old puzzles you own with a selection of their used puzzles. I'll definitely be making the most of this deal. This is an Oakland gem that I can't recommend enough. If you're looking for a kind and welcoming community, this is a great one. I'll definitely be returning.

I liked seeing part of a shelf that highlighted local California games. Seems like a great community spot as the Friday night had some sort of Magic the Gathering tournament and they were open pretty late. There are around 5-6 folding tables of seating across the store. We spent some time browsing but no staff members approached us. It was a little stuffy inside but better away from the used games in the back. The used games in the back shelves were organized alphabetically -- but it was unclear if they were to play or for purchase The chalkboard has some weekly information of their events

For comparison, Kubla con is at least $50 per day (but you do have other events and a bigger space). I wish I lived nearby. These college kids have it easy - we just played Apples to Apples at Denny's in my day. Food was also pretty good and I like that they will split the tab for you. The service was pretty good - friendly, informative. I felt well-taken care of, which you hardly ever get even when you pay beaucoup/bookoo dollars at fancy shamncy restaurants. There were more cafe-goers than gamers. The collection is also pretty good and well-loved. The Finspan rulebook was not falling apart...it was apart. There were shelves at the front and also the back. If I lived nearby, I'd consolidate my personal game collection and just go here. But I don't. It is definitely a place I can see myself revisiting when in the area.

But beware that it does get pretty loud in here, especially during weekend evenings, so wouldn't recommend you coming here during those time if you are looking for a quieter place to study or do work. However, outside of those times, the cafe is fairly empty and quiet. Outlets are a bit limited unless you are at a table in the back, but also beware that those tables are typically reserved and you will get kicked out of that table if they are. I aim to sit on the window seats but outlets + table space are limited.

The parking lot is pretty small, but we found a spot easily. When you walk in there's a lot to look at. Near the door there is a wall of board games as well as some plush items. We had so much fun looking at the dice at the counter, they have a great selection including some metal dice and I loved a pair the was pearlescent. The prices range widely but they're all really cool. They also carry items from local makers like jewelry, make up, potion bottles, fidgets, and other little cute items. I saw a bunch of 3D printed items too. The second glass case has cards on display for collectors. I didn't look at them too closely but I saw a lot of holographic which is always cool. On the other side of the store is an area with a bunch of tables where people were having fun playing games together. That area takes up a little under half of the store. It seemed like a fun spot to come with friends. The staff members were really friendly and helpful as well. It was fun learning about the store and their offerings and I'm sure we'll be back soon.

And did I mention that the other half of the store sells comics? They even have a shelf for local artists' zines! Love seeing businesses support local artists! Their prices are fair and comparable to other board game stores like Games of Berkeley and Black Diamond Games. I also like that this is just a store, not a place to play games at. Sometimes I get intimidated walking by people playing at tables. There's a parking lot around the back that belongs to the grocery store, I think. Or street parking. The people who work here are super friendly too! Very helpful but you won't feel like they're watching your every move.

And local creator ones too. If you're looking for a surprise gift for your four year old nephew, there are several sections of the store offering a variety of children's books. And if you're nostalgic for the nineties sometimes, you could find some music inspired graphics catching your eye. For any level of comic or graphic novel enthusiast, Dr Comics & Mr Games is a definite go to.
