By far the best Puerto Rican food I've had since moving to Phoenix (from Puerto Rico) 3 years ago. I've been to Millie's, PR Latin Bar & Grill, but...I always felt like they were missing something. Like the extra "sazón" -- as we like to call it -- in classic dishes like arroz con gandules and mofongo. Phoenix Coquí exceeded my expectations in everything: taste, presentation, and price. Granted I know nothing here that originates from the island will be dirt cheap in comparison but everything that I picked for my meal (and to have leftovers for later in the day) did not exceed $25 and usually an Uber eats order for a basic entree from Panda Express (as an example) is so expensive and nearing the $20 mark -- without a drink lol. All in all, I'll be coming back as much as I can! After one visit my family is hooked! We tried the beef and chicken empanadas as well as the flan. The empanadas were perfectly crisp on the outside and filled with delicious shredded chicken and ground beef. It is clear that no detail was missed when freshly preparing these delicacies. The chicken was shredded to a perfect consistency and the ground beef seasoned well. Please do yourself a favor and try it with the garlic mayo Bori sauce. Delicious food!!! I love to try new plates...and different flavors. I tried their plato de pernil...pork was so tender and full of juices. I really wanted to love this place, i really did! (Sad face). I absolutely love and grew up on spanish food so i know the difference. But it was all bland. All of it. What i did love was how clean the place was and how great the service is. I mean since we are in az and this type of food is hard to come by, i guess this place will somewhat satisfy a craving, but if you can follow a recipe, just make this food at home. (Don't hate me plz, just being honest!). Update: i know alot of people call dominican, pr, venezuelan, cuban food "spanish food". Where can I start? Well, at least let me leave you with this: Phoenix Coqui offers the BEST Puerto Rican food in the Phoenix Metro area. The best. Ever. Period. I am a "boricua, de pura cepa". Being born and raised in Puerto Rico, when you have been living away from your island for about a decade -- like me -- you miss your native country's flavors, which are hard to find and replicate. Often times, I have been disappointed when visiting places specializing in Puerto Rican cuisine, which have left my cravings unfulfilled. Well, let me tell you that Phoenix Coqui is as good as it gets. The food truck offers a good selection of your typical Puerto Rican dishes, with abuela's sazon. Yes! Their dishes are full of flavor, and they even use recao and prepare their own sofrito. Their pernil is juicy, flavorful and tender, and their mofongo is TO DIE FOR -- made from scratch when you order it. It's true that you may need to wait for a while to get your food done, but you know it's going to be fresh and with all the flavors you so crave. You might even meet other Puerto Ricans customers while you wait. :) Phoenix Coqui is like a little piece of Puerto Rico in the desert. Their arroz con gandules tastes like "campo", and their habichuelas guisandas are not too far behind. If you like fast food choices, they have them, too! Just discovered this place, and oh man was I missing out. Crispy flavorful empanadas, and the Mofongo con Pernil, oh my gosh so good! I picked up takeout, and it was sustainably packed and still piping hot by the time I got home (only a 5 minute drive, but still noteworthy). Small dining area but the best places are usually small so I take that as a good sign personally. Service at the counter was also fast and friendly. What can I say? Having found a food truck with Puerto Rican food took me back to when we lived in Fajardo and Saturdays we went to the beach and the authentic snacks and sandwiches we bought there. The jibarito is very very good, it is a plaintain sandwich with seasoned mayo and tender beef. Served with either arroz con gandules or french fries. Yum!. I ordered empanadillas which are fritters with cheese and tripleta fries. All of our food was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. The price is very reasonable and the taste is delicious. The best part is the open late! Woohoo. Our new late night merienda place. Will definitely be back. A plus....Owner's are awesome and super friendly! read more

Have been wanting to try their food for so long and finally last night I was able to go and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Welcomed with all smiles, friendly owners, these guys made me feel I was back home kicking it after hours waiting for my tripleta. The food was amazing, had the chicken and beef empanada and omg wish I would've gotten more, tasted just like the ones in Maunabo and patillas. Meat had so much flavor! Phoenix Coqui is Phoenix's first Puerto Rican food truck! As a native to the East Coast, I'm so glad that I finally get a chance to satisfy my PR cravings. "Coqui" is actually a type of singing frog in Puerto Rico, and the truck sports a symbol of the frog on its outside. We wanted to order the Tripleta, a type of all meats sandwich and the guy ahead of us in line got the last one! Alas, we ordered chicken and pizza empanadas, and both were tasty. The casing of the empanada was crisp and easy to bite into, and the chicken had a gracious amount. Both empanadas were made to order, so the food was piping hot and fresh to taste. Now I know that if I need my Puerto Rican cravings fixed, I can go find them. My only tip is to keep in mind that they are a fairly new food truck, they just opened last month, so they have a limited amount of menu items. We had the pernil and rice and unlike previous yelpers the rice was moist and very tasty and the meat was salted just right. Also the tostones were nice and thick. The tripleta sandwich was also seasoned just right and the bread was on point, it was thick but not soggy even though we got our food to go. The sauce that came on the side was really good too. The only things we didn't care for was the only drink selection was water and empanadillas could use a little more meat in them. But for the taste and value we will return often. Especially when they add the rellenos de papas my favorite. For a new business they are doing it right and of course still learning and growing so they can only get better but have very little to improve. Great job guys! read more

Ok... so this review had a long time coming! After all... I was born and raised in Puerto Rico so Im always a little nervous of trying Puerto Rican food outside PR because mostly I just don't wanna be disappointed. This guys DO NOT disappoint. I had the tostones (fried green plantains) with carne fria (fried pork) and of course mayoketchup ( a mayo and ketchup sauce with other seasoning to dip your tostones or fries). The tostones were freshly fried and the carne frita had a great flavor! Very well seasoned. I also had a tripleta (3 meat sandwich) to go... because I can. The tripleta was HUGE and although a little less tasty that those found home it still hit the spot. Price wise for the amount of food you get it is really affordable... we all had left overs! I was sad they had run out of mofongo (fried green plantains mashed and dome shaped) just before we got there (11:30pm ish) . I would recommend going early because they do routinely run out (that tells you how good they are!). They also have dessert ( flan), pastelillos (similar to empanadas) and drinks that take you back to the island (malta, coco rico, uvita). And the guys who run it are just so nice too! Always a plus! Obviously will go back again (early this time) and will likely buy multiple things again read more

These alcapurrias DO NOT taste like the alcapurrias I eat in PR (Luquillo, Farjado, Loiza, etc.) It just doesn't taste good. Missing seasoning and salt. I tasted the mofongo with pernil and it was quite bland and uninspiring. I remember the food at the beginning, when they were enthusiastic about their new food truck. It was phenomenal. The food really tasted good. The restaurant business can burn anyone. But consistency will be key for their future. read more
