Phoenix Coqui - Parcha - Puerto Rican Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Amazing Puerto Rican food! Favorite hands down! Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic spot!

This place feels like home, being a Puerto Rican coming from Orlando Florida where there's Puerto Rican food on every corner this is a gem here in the valley! From the Arroz con gandules to the Tripleta to the Quesito bites, it's all full of that amazing Puerto Rican flavor. They even have alcapurrias which are my favorite fritura and hard to come by! Overall I'm always satisfied with my food and quality of service when I go to Phoenix Coqui! read more

Everything was and is perfect. I couldn't find one negative thing. Super friendly, very courteous, the food was delicious and came out very hot. We'll be back! read more

Let me begin by telling you that I've only eaten here once. But, that doesn't change the fact that the food was very disappointing. "Greasy" and "bland" are two adjectives that are accurate and spring readily to mind. I had the Mofongo bowl: pulled pork, rice with some sort of little brown beans in it, and fried platanos lining the bottom of the plastic serving dish. I can make more interestingly seasoned pulled pork at home. And I do. The rice was OK. It was great if you like bland, and many people do. None for me thanks. Again, I routinely put out better rice and beans at home. I cook them myself. The fried platanos were also bland. Buried as they were in the tiny serving dish under the pork and the rice, they never had a chance to be anything but soggy. I don't make platanos at home, but I used to live in Little Havana in Miami, FL so I know how good this side dish can be. Coqui's platanos are a dish you should pass up unless your mother cooked them. My wife ordered two empanadillos (one mushroom and one shrimp) with fries on the side. The greasy empanadillos drenched the bed of fries with lukewarm fryer oil, so that lunch was a total wreck without any merit at all. On the good side, the Mofongo bowl was a mountain of food. Ordinary at best, but plentiful. We took half of the bowl home to see if we can't improve it when we next get hungry. A crowning annoyance was the table ware supplied to eat lunch with. Kiddie-sized plastic knives, forks, and spoons that made it easy to splash food all over the table top. Any of them would have been fine to use in eating ice cream out of a Dixie Cup. But terrible as table ware. We won't be going back. I can't recommend that you go and eat there. This place is a terrible follow-up to the Crazy Jim's that used to operate out of this location. read more

Love this place. My friend and I came here and we both had the mofongo con pernil. We also split an empanada, alcapurria de yuca and amarillos. I know a lot but we want we wanted to try a few items. We were not disappointed. A must try. I've had mofongo in various different restaurants and this one is by far the best I've had. The pork was so moist and flavorful. Can't wait to go there again. read more

Absolutely authentic and sooooo good. Empanadas were amazing as was the carne frita. I'll be going back for sure!

Giving a 3 start since the food did not taste fresh. The empanadas are okay but the pastelon had so much ground meat that took away from tasting anything else. Food has room for improvement! read more

By far the best Puerto Rican food I've had since moving to Phoenix (from Puerto Rico) 3 years ago. I've been to Millie's, PR Latin Bar & Grill, but...I always felt like they were missing something. Like the extra "sazón" -- as we like to call it -- in classic dishes like arroz con gandules and mofongo. Phoenix Coquí exceeded my expectations in everything: taste, presentation, and price. Granted I know nothing here that originates from the island will be dirt cheap in comparison but everything that I picked for my meal (and to have leftovers for later in the day) did not exceed $25 and usually an Uber eats order for a basic entree from Panda Express (as an example) is so expensive and nearing the $20 mark -- without a drink lol. All in all, I'll be coming back as much as I can! Estoy triste que no abren en la semana y solo abren los fines de semanas pero ojalá puedan considerar volver a reintegrar días en semana, por las tardes, como un test drive pronto. read more

After one visit my family is hooked! We tried the beef and chicken empanadas as well as the flan. The empanadas were perfectly crisp on the outside and filled with delicious shredded chicken and ground beef. It is clear that no detail was missed when freshly preparing these delicacies. The chicken was shredded to a perfect consistency and the ground beef seasoned well. Please do yourself a favor and try it with the garlic mayo Bori sauce. It is no surprise patrons travel from across town or stop in from other cities to order up and enjoy these Puerto Rican treats table-side from Phoenix Coqui. The owners are also very friendly and will offer recommendations for those new to PR food. read more

I really wanted to love this place, i really did! (Sad face). I absolutely love and grew up on spanish food so i know the difference. But it was all bland. All of it. What i did love was how clean the place was and how great the service is. I mean since we are in az and this type of food is hard to come by, i guess this place will somewhat satisfy a craving, but if you can follow a recipe, just make this food at home. (Don't hate me plz, just being honest!). Update: i know alot of people call dominican, pr, venezuelan, cuban food "spanish food". U may not know that on the island, and although I appreciate the schooling, i have eaten IN puerto rico plenty of times. So i know what its supposed to taste like. Still wish u guys success! read more

Where can I start? Well, at least let me leave you with this: Phoenix Coqui offers the BEST Puerto Rican food in the Phoenix Metro area. The best. Ever. Period. I am a "boricua, de pura cepa". Being born and raised in Puerto Rico, when you have been living away from your island for about a decade -- like me -- you miss your native country's flavors, which are hard to find and replicate. Often times, I have been disappointed when visiting places specializing in Puerto Rican cuisine, which have left my cravings unfulfilled. Well, let me tell you that Phoenix Coqui is as good as it gets. The food truck offers a good selection of your typical Puerto Rican dishes, with abuela's sazon. Yes! Their dishes are full of flavor, and they even use recao and prepare their own sofrito. Their pernil is juicy, flavorful and tender, and their mofongo is TO DIE FOR -- made from scratch when you order it. It's true that you may need to wait for a while to get your food done, but you know it's going to be fresh and with all the flavors you so crave. You might even meet other Puerto Ricans customers while you wait. :) Phoenix Coqui is like a little piece of Puerto Rico in the desert. Their arroz con gandules tastes like "campo", and their habichuelas guisandas are not too far behind. If you like fast food choices, they have them, too! They prepare tripletas and empanadillas de pizza. Yum. Oh! And let's not forget about the tostones or the flan de queso. You can even find nostalgia beverages such as Old Colony and Coco Rico. (Do note that the food truck only opens in Phoenix on Saturday nights and that their menu choices change, so you need to follow them on Facebook to see what they'll be serving each week.) Buen provecho. :) read more

Just discovered this place, and oh man was I missing out. Crispy flavorful empanadas, and the Mofongo con Pernil, oh my gosh so good! I picked up takeout, and it was sustainably packed and still piping hot by the time I got home (only a 5 minute drive, but still noteworthy). Small dining area but the best places are usually small so I take that as a good sign personally. Service at the counter was also fast and friendly. I'll undoubtedly be a regular return customer from here on! read more

Excellent customer service. A Puerto Rican coming from NY I expect a big blast of flavor and I didn't get that, it was a little bland but I am willing to give it another try for sure. read more

What can I say? Having found a food truck with Puerto Rican food took me back to when we lived in Fajardo and Saturdays we went to the beach and the authentic snacks and sandwiches we bought there. The jibarito is very very good, it is a plaintain sandwich with seasoned mayo and tender beef. Served with either arroz con gandules or french fries. Yum!. I ordered empanadillas which are fritters with cheese and tripleta fries. All of our food was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. The price is very reasonable and the taste is delicious. The best part is the open late! Woohoo. Our new late night merienda place. Will definitely be back. A plus....Owner's are awesome and super friendly! read more

Phoenix Coqui is Phoenix's first Puerto Rican food truck! As a native to the East Coast, I'm so glad that I finally get a chance to satisfy my PR cravings. "Coqui" is actually a type of singing frog in Puerto Rico, and the truck sports a symbol of the frog on its outside. We wanted to order the Tripleta, a type of all meats sandwich and the guy ahead of us in line got the last one! Alas, we ordered chicken and pizza empanadas, and both were tasty. The casing of the empanada was crisp and easy to bite into, and the chicken had a gracious amount. Both empanadas were made to order, so the food was piping hot and fresh to taste. Now I know that if I need my Puerto Rican cravings fixed, I can go find them. My only tip is to keep in mind that they are a fairly new food truck, they just opened last month, so they have a limited amount of menu items. (I'll be sure to try the Tripleta next time.) read more

We had the pernil and rice and unlike previous yelpers the rice was moist and very tasty and the meat was salted just right. Also the tostones were nice and thick. The tripleta sandwich was also seasoned just right and the bread was on point, it was thick but not soggy even though we got our food to go. The sauce that came on the side was really good too. The only things we didn't care for was the only drink selection was water and empanadillas could use a little more meat in them. But for the taste and value we will return often. Especially when they add the rellenos de papas my favorite. For a new business they are doing it right and of course still learning and growing so they can only get better but have very little to improve. Great job guys! read more

Went with a friend. We're one of 12 Puerto Rican's in Phoenix, so it was nice to find food authentic to our culture! It's a food truck so keep in mind limited kitchen space means limited menu. But the food that they do have is pretty good. The pernil is tender and you can tell some love went into it. The service is excellent. They take your order and bring it to your car. read more

Fantastic. The alcapurrias are my favorite. So happy to have a great Puerto Rican spot in AZ.

Besides being some of the best food I've eaten in my life, it's DIRT CHEAP and the couple who runs the truck are so incredibly sweet. Even my drunk blacked out self knew this was a safe place to go to when I ran away from my friends. Will always go back every time I'm in town. read more

I agree with Lisa's review. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. 50 Years. My weakness are the alcapurrias. These alcapurrias DO NOT taste like the alcapurrias I eat in PR (Luquillo, Farjado, Loiza, etc.) It just doesn't taste good. Missing seasoning and salt. I tasted the mofongo with pernil and it was quite bland and uninspiring. I remember the food at the beginning, when they were enthusiastic about their new food truck. It was phenomenal. The food really tasted good. The restaurant business can burn anyone. But consistency will be key for their future. read more

We go here every weekend. They have the best mofongo and empanadillas. Would definitely recommend.

Lunch was absolutely amazing. The drinks were great, service was fantastic and we're already planning what day to come back again.
