You could easily pass by this building never knowing it is a bar- it's on the side of a mountain, looks a little like a rancher house and has a small parking lot. Being the beer nerds that we are, we decided to check out the advertised selection on a Thursday night in July. This bar is a true neighborhood bar. Everyone knew everyone else- except us. There are drinking bumper stickers up all over the wall (24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?) two pool tables, a shuffle bowl game that didn't appear to be working and a juke box blasting AC/DC, Ozzy and Skynrd. We were a little turned off by the appearance and ambiance (and one of the locals who had consumed too much Canadian Windsor) but we were pleasently surprised at the beer selection: beers from Troeges, Rouge, Flying Fish, Victory, and all the regulars- Bud, etc. at just $3.50 a pint. In Philadelphia or local breweries, these same pints can go for $4-$6. The worst part about Martin's was the odor of the ladies' room- the air was just dead even though there was a working exhaust. Otherwise, the people were friendly, the selection was decent and the price was right. I'll be sure to use the bathroom at home before our next trip but we'll certainly be back!

The area around Martin's has lots of steep hills and winding roads through the woods. This bar's been there for a long time, and reflects the area's culture, and is worth going to. We skipped the usual chain nonsense and found Barnaby's instead. Luck, maybe. Or instinct. Either way, it paid off. The place has bones. Stone walls, a lived-in feel, and a room full of people who look like they've been coming here long enough to have a seat without asking. It's loud in the right way. Feels honest. Now the food. The wings--here's the truth. These are the kind where they split a full wing and call it two. That's a ding. Always will be. And the sauce? A little flat. Not bad, not offensive, just... didn't say much. At least it didn't try to melt your face off, which counts for something. But the rest of the meal? That's where this place earns its keep. Crab cakes that taste like crab, not filler. Mashed potatoes that didn't come out of a bag. Vegetables that had some life to them. And a burger built like it had something to prove--juicy, stacked, and handled right. The kind of plate that shows up and you know you made the right decision. Service sealed it. Our waitress--sharp, funny, moving like she's done this a thousand times and still enjoys it. You don't see that much anymore. She made the whole experience better without making a show of it. Bottom line: wings need work, no question. But everything else? Strong. Real strong. This is the kind of place you circle back to next time you're in the area--and maybe even make the trip for on purpose.

Perfect for meeting friends having a gathering we're just having dinner on a business trip. There's an above average beer offering as well as a full bar. I chose to have an old-fashioned with my meal. There's a large selection of shareable's and I chose the crab dip and it was nicely done. There's five or six flatbread pizzas to choose from a nice offering of salads as well as sandwiches, and four entrées, consisting of mac & cheese, fish and chips, muscles, pork cutlet. I always enjoy Reuben so I took their twist of a Reuben cheesesteak on a pretzel hoagie, which was nice and soft and a fun twist on a Reuben. If you're local, I think it's a great location to meet friends and have a beer after work if you're traveling like myself it's a great option versus the standard national brands.

The young staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely great. The menu changes often and stays interesting, and the rotating selection of flavorful brews and creative libations can easily keep you here for hours. My go to salmon BLT, Reuben cheesesteak and inglorious bratwurst. Don't forget the bbq nachos, cheese curds and spice bagged wings! We come at least once a week and always bring out-of-town visitors here--everyone is impressed by the quality of the food and the warm, welcoming service. Don't skip the rotating desserts--they're always worth it. Live music on Saturdays and trivia on Tuesdays just add to the fun. If I could give this place six stars, I would. It's that good.
