One of my favorite pho spots in the bay! Super fresh and flavorful.. Their vegetarian pho is so good! They don't skimp out on the portions (bean sprouts, basil, etc), give a generous amount of vegetables, and the texture of their noodles are just right. We have been here quite often and there was a time this place used to be very good. It has gone downhill pretty fast in recent times. The last 3 times we have been here, something or the other has always gone wrong - and something seriously wrong, not small problems. Meat in a vegetarian pho (person who ordered is vegetarian), bug in pho and this time tofu that had gone bad. The servers were nice enough but the owner usually seems to offer up useless philosophical spins - "at times in life things go wrong but let us know and we make it right" was what she chose the third time they screwed up for us. Sorry - you don't keep getting second chances. You get that once, maybe twice - but this is a business where you can't keep screwing it up and then "make it right". Why is there no good Vietnamese in San Jose West of 280? Living in San Jose has gotten me hooked on Pho and Vietnamese food in general, but living in the Cambrian area there is nothing close by for a quick pho fix when I need it. My usual routine is to hop on 87 north and go to Pho Hoa on De Anza right off the freeway. I went to the Sunnyvale Pho Wagon (and loved it) based on reading reviews and couldn't believe my luck when I saw that they were opening one much closer to my house. The restaurant is brand new and sparkling clean. I am a pho fanatic so that is all I have eaten here, although I have ordered the children's grilled chicken w/ rice for my 3 year old picky eater who eats every last bite every time. I also have had the spring rolls and they were great too. The service is great, prices are too. I have never had to wait for a table and the parking lot is never full. Portions are a little smaller than some pho places, but the quality is top notch. I give this place 5 stars for filling the empty void of Vietnamese restaurants in the west San Jose area, quality of food, and cleanliness (which can be an issue with Vietnamese restaurants). read more

Service- 1 star Food- 1 star MSG- TONS!! Family dinner for 6. My daughter got the kids meal chicken pho. Total rip off! Kids meal, comes in a small bowl with four tiny strips of chicken for $6. (Regular large pho is $8.50). We asked for a little more broth/soup bc the noodles sucked up the little amount of broth that it came in. They took so long bringing it out, we were all done eating and asked for it to go. I don't think she understood english bc I had to repeat myself four times, "yes, I would like the broth to go". The bill comes and they charge $4 for the small little to go of just broth. I questioned the waitress and she looked at me and says, "but the soup had broth when you got it right?". Well, yes, but when you give such small amount of soup to begin with, the noodles absorbed all of it within 5 minutes. The food has so much MSG in it, we all got sick. Major headache. Extremely dry mouth. My mother and daughter both threw up the minute we got home. I'm going to report this place to the FDA. I will never ever go to this place again. My first review on yelp bc I wanted to warn everyone to avoid this place. There are so many other good authentic vietnamese restaurants around that don't drown the flavor with MSG. I've come here very often and enjoyed it but this particular instance was unacceptable. First, my sisters and I wrote our names down on the waiting list and the lady who I assume was the manager crosses our names off and sat the party behind us.... Okay odd. We say something and she notions us to sit down (without being clear). As were sitting a family next to us with a small child accidentally broke a small plate and the manager comes over yelling at them saying they shouldn't bring their child in restaurants if their rowdy. (Terrible customer service) the family continued o be very polite. She continued to yell at them saying they shouldn't be in public like this. I previously wrote in 2012 and although it is still quite popular, I have to revise my review. I was surprised that service has gone by the wayside. They have the same amount of servers for a restaurant that has grown in popularity and they have increased prices so now I really can't say the value is there like it was. We came in on a Sun night, the restaurant was about 80% full, but the wait staff looked frazzled and when we were seated after several minutes passed, it took us to ask for water, for a waiter, and then after we ordered, they forgot our kids' food. We ordered chicken pho for the kids and that has got to be the easiest order to fulfill of our three dishes. After our food was sitting cold as we waited for the kids' pho, I ended up spooning some of our dish into theirs in order to get them fed. The total meal took over 45 min with us eating in like less than 10 min (pork rice plate, pork noodle plate, and kid's chicken pho, no drinks) and total bill $30 with tax and tip. Also, the servers had clearly forgotten about the chicken pho, but when the owner came around to ask how we were doing, we stated we were waiting for the chicken pho and she quickly replied, "ok, that could take awhile" instead of, "I'm sorry, let me check on that" or "I'm sorry" (period). We were saddened that their customer service lacked any apologies but were instead filled with excuses. I feel the few young servers who are working there are working hard, but are lacking training but the biggest issue is that they are definitely understaffed. I wish management would see that and make changes because due to those reasons, they have turned off some previously very loyal customers. From the looks and price of the restaurant, they aspire to deliver an upscale Vietnamese cuisine experience, but unfortunately they miss the mark and we will now rather frequent House of Pho on Almaden Expressway as our first choice and deal with the crowded nature and service of these restaurants because at least their price warrants what you get and the food is about the same caliber either way. read more

Pretty good Vietnamese plates, not that divey look and feel of most Pho joints. I've been a few times for pickup and eaten here once, the portions are decent size and you're only paying any extra buck per dish compared to other places for that ambiance. Good service and they are quick for pickup. There isn't anything "special" about this place in terms of flavor or options, but it is definitely a good option for those of you that eat with people that normally wouldn't eat from a traditional hole in the wall, but you still want good pho. This place has really gone downhill, sad because it was pretty good when it first opened. We used to go every Sunday for breakfast, but they started opening later and later. We started going elsewhere initially because they opened so late. Then the prices started increasing....gradually they kept going up. Every time they handed up new menus, we just knew they upped the cost. Then whomever was cooking noodles suddenly forgot what a cooked noodles look like every time I ordered vermicelli. They were crunchy and the waiter could care less. Taste started changing, not good... What finally did it for us was our last experience. It always smells strong like bleach, every time right after they open. So we walk in to the smell of bleach, they seat us and under my chair was a sticky puddle of liquid. I was wearing flip flops, so my sandal got stuck to the floor. I had to go in the bathroom and wash my shoes and foot...yea nasty I know. I go back out, they had moved out seat and didn't say a word to me OR bother to clean the mess. The floor was so filthy, crumbs and dirt all over. Then we see the prices went up again! We walked out and went down the street to a different Pho spot. 100% done going here. read more

Today was my first visit to Pho Wagon and I've lived in the neighborhood for years. I just assumed it was a fast food take out joint, but boy was I surprised. Lovely ambience in a very clean and friendly place. A woman who may have been the owner greeted us after we were seated and when she heard it was our first time there, she gave us some wonderful recommendations. I had the small veggie pho and it was chock full of very fresh veggies: bok choy, broccoli, carrots. So wonderful and healthy. I'm just sad it took me so long to try this place. Three star for a clean location. The pho tasted alright. Meat tasted a little strange. I ordered a large bowl of pho and it was the small size of the other pho places I've been too. I didn't get filled up all the way. This was strange because I normally feel full when I leave the other pho places. After I left here I had to go and get a protein bar to kinda fill up my stomach. I will try this place one more time in future. If they don't increase their portion I'm gonna have to write my experience compare to other places that I've gone too. I'm shocked to read some of the bad reviews. I must have gone to Pho Wagon on a good day because the noodles are fresh and the broth was flavorful and warm. Their pho is cooked over night and contain little or no MSG. Mary Nguyen and her family (owners) are absolute gems! I was fortunate to enough to talk to Mary about her life story and passion in opening up a business in Willow Glen. I highly recommend staying here for dessert because the fried banana with coconut and pineapple ice cream was absolutely delicious!! One serving came with three scoops of ice cream and three small banana rolls-- it was definitely big enough to share with two other people. Shockingly, the outside shell did not taste overly fried. The rolls were moist and healthy tasting. On a side note, the bathrooms here are really clean! Even an anal person/neat freak would be impressed. I highly recommend coming here if you don't want to make a trip to Downtown SJ and East SJ. read more

SOOO happy to have an awesome Pho place in Willow Glen/Campbell area!!! I've been hearing good things about Pho Wagon, so I picked up some take out last night. First off, the place is SUPER clean, especially compared to all the other Pho places I've ever been to. Second, the staff is really nice and helpful. They even asked me if I'd like a drink while I wait for my food :) Third, they packaged up everything so efficiently that there were no spills, and everything I needed was there (chopsticks, forks, knives, sauces, etc). The portion sizes were really big! We got a small Pho Tai, one order of spring rolls, and the Lemon Grass Beef Bun. Way too much food for two but all were delicious! I asked if they use MSG, and they said they only use a tiny bit. I'm not so keen on MSG but I'll still eat there...definitely will be back soon!!! read more

What a nice place! Everything is good - food, service and ambience! And what bargain prices! I was back here again last week. The moment you walk in the smiles are on all of the staff members. Before you know it, the food arrives. On this visit our party of four had spring rolls, special fried rice, pad thai noodles, soup and chicken salad. Adore the chicken salad with its shredded and large pieces of white meat...dressing so simple and super. The flavor of the veggies, etc. comes out... Spring rolls were to die for. Could eat those every single day! Had some of those red bean drinks, tea and plenty of iced water to wash it all down with. We'll be back. This place used to be really good. They have gone downhill quick over the last several months. It sounds like they go through cooks and most of the time only offer the pho. I would suggest trying Pho Lyn off of San Carlos. Their pho has more flavor and have not had a bad meal when ordering their other items on their menu. Try the Mongolian beef at pho lyn. We were a little skeptical as we walked up and noticed the place was pact and there wasn't a single Asian person. The next strike came when we sat down and heard the most authentic Spanish music playing throughout the Vietnamese restaurant. I was really surprised when we got served, the service was fast and the staff was friendly. The combination Pho was great and my "Rock 'n Roll Filet Mignon" came out a little cold but it was still out of this world! Highly recommend, some of the best Pho in Willow Glen. read more

I can't get enough of this soup! There a lot of Pho noodle places around here and i have to say, this is the best one in town! I can't eat anywhere else now cause they make the broth and noodles perfect! Perfect spring rolls, Vietnamese sandwiches, amazing Thai tea, and the rare steak is very lean and tender. Pho Wagon is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant....and worth the drive from Fremont. It is the cleanest Vietnamese restaurant we've been too; the service and food are excellent. We're always greeted with a smile and a visit from Mary, the owner. The Vietnamese chicken salad is "to die for" ...the dressing is so light and delicious. Went to Pho Wagon tonight for dinner. The food was so so, noodles are not quite right, and broth is tasty but Pho Y #1 is by far the best. The review is about the rude service. A group of three tables were seated around the same time, in the same area. A server took orders from the table came in ahead of us, and then bapassed us and went to the table came in behind us. Odd, I thought, but no big deal. After being ignored for a few minutes, I got the attention of another server who finally came and took order. The first server then came back and put two plates of veggie condiments on the two tables afore mentioned. Shortly after food came for them as well. And then all of a sudden the first server went to the first table, took their veggie plate which had been sitting on their table for more than 5 minutes, saying that their order did not include tthe veggies, and plopped it down our table without a word, just like that! of course the first table got livid, and started complaining to the manager etc, while we were sitting there all the time like a second class citizen. I thought I was trying to help my neighborhood by patronizing this noodle shop even though it is not that great. Not to mention, they actually charge $2 for the horrid tea whereas any other real Pho shop serves it free of charge! I will not go back anymore. read more

Meh it's alright. Got the pad thai, not sure why at a place called Pho Wagon, but it was decent. Didn't really taste like your normal pad thai. Needed a bit more flavor and noodles to be less wet. I checked this place out on a whim since I just had recently moved to Willow Glen and boy am I glad I found this place! Upon entering, you notice that it has a beautiful decor, however, it's not that big of a place considering how packed it gets on cold days or during peak lunch/dinner hours. The food itself is awesome there! I always order a Wonton Noodle Soup with egg noodles, however, I always like to secretly see people's plates arrive to their table and see what they got, and in being a little ninja, I've seen a lot of delicious plates come out from the kitchen in the few times I've been there. Speaking personally, their soups there are delicious-- the broth is flavorful and all the ingredients/meats/etc they use in their soups are fresh and just as tasty! Although your food does come out hot and fresh, you do kind of have to wait a little beyond a normal waiting time to actually get your order. We totally regretted getting an appetizer and even from looking around, regretted it that much worse since other people kind of already knew what to expect so coming here on an empty stomach and waiting isn't the most ideal thing--order an appetizer to hold you over, lol. To be honest, the only two quirks I have about this place are the prices and attitude of some of the people working there. First, a soup/bowl of Pho is easily going to run you at least $10 each here, wow, that's the most I've ever payed for Pho outside of being on the Las Vegas Strip, where everything is overpriced. I'm definitely not a penny pincher, however, it was surprising to see how they charged compared to any other Pho spot within a 5 mile radius in San Jose. Second, as mentioned, in the three times I've been there, my girlfriend and I have been on the receiving end of some childish "attitude" by the employees, as if we are annoying them or inconveniencing them? Mind you, there will always be "complainers" that piss off restaurant workers, however, getting obviously irritated reactions and angry scowls from just asking for simple things like a fork, or something more to drink, POLITELY, just baffles me. The last time we ordered something just for pickup, we obviously irritated and offended the girl up front after paying by asking her, "May we also please also have some Sriracha sauce?" (Angry scowl) "WHAT? It's already in the BAG!!" My gf: "Oh ok, I'm sorry, I didn't know because last time we did not get any sauce so I figured I would ask this time." Lady up front: "NO! It ALWAYS comes with it! ITS IN THE BAG!" Rude, rude, rude and embarrassing for us, even though we didn't even do anything to provoke that, and even to see other customers eating there look up from their tables and shake their head over the ridiculousness of her shouting. On that note, I have to give this place 3 stars and do it with mixed emotions. As I said, to be fair, the food is delicious, however, they lose a star for being a bit overpriced (is it because it's in Willow Glen and think everybody is rich?) and definitely lose a star for their customer service and lack of professionalism in their female front desk staff giving us attitude and raising their voices and treating us like some kind of rude, snobby customers with impossible standards. What's sad is that nobody else on the staff cares to tell them anything even though they are clearly embarrassed of their own coworker and embarrassed for us as a customer being on the receiving end of it. It's not rocket science, the success of a business depends on it's customers money and keeping their customers happy, returning back, and giving referral's to their friends/family is dependent on stellar, FRIENDLY customer service. read more
