Let's be honest. There aren't very many good restaurants along the Almaden Expressway. So finding these guys was a surprise. Happened to be leaving the gym and saw this place tucked in behind the gas station. Thought... no way this is good... but Yelp came through. The reviews got us in and it was surprisingly delicious. Better than the other Vietnamese Pho place by Costco. Sometimes the proteins in Buns can be overcooked and dry, but it was nicely charred and juicy here. The Pho broth is spot on. Really no complaints. We ordered a ton of stuff for takeout and everything was well packaged. Gonna order from these guys from now on. read more

This has been my go to for over four years since my first time here. My favorite Bánh mì spot in the Bay Area. I love their grilled bbq pork Bánh mì, vermeil bowls, spring rolls and the egg rolls. The food is always consist and delicious! Their chicken pho is good too but I prefer other items since soups aren't at the top of my favorite things to eat. Came here for dinner cause my wife likes their Pho. The service was good and the food came out fast. They had the best playlist going while we ate. I got the beef vermicelli and it was delicious. I'm a regular here, me and my mom come frequently and I really recommend this place to anyone in the area. I personally love the wonton rice noodle soup, their chicken veggie rice stirfry is a favorite of my whole family, their eggrolls are as well. During summer their fresh lemon soda is nice and refreshing but not overly sweet and sugary. We usually walk in and find ourselves a seat right away, once they take our orders we never have to wait long, everything always comes out right away steaming hot and fresh. My boyfriend and I got takeout here and I was so excited I forgot to take photos but omgggg this place is SO GOOD!!! I'm a vegetarian and need vegan broth which is hard to find but they have an amazing mushroom and veggie based broth that's so good and not over salted. Veggies were super fresh too! We also got the vegetarian fresh rolls with peanut sauce which was amazing!! The rolls were unique since their meat alternative wasn't a typical tofu but was sautéed and had a yummy seasoning/ marinade. My boyfriend got their shrimp pad thai which he loved. We stopped by on a Saturday morning before we went to the beach. We were actually quite starving and couldn't wait to eat. There were not that many people in the restaurant at first, but they quickly filled up with diners along with customers picking up food from mobile or takeaway orders. It didn't very long for our order to be taken, but it did take a minute for our food to come out of the kitchen. It was quite understandable because their food traffic started to pick up with a lot of people coming in to dine. Both my friend and I ordered the BBQ boneless chicken with rice. It was so delicious, we didn't have any leftovers. The chicken was perfectly tender and savory. The sides perfectly complemented the meal and the soup they give you initially was also really delicious. Portions are filling, and prices are very fair. They have a very family-friendly atmosphere and plenty of booths and tables and chairs that can accommodate larger groups. We stopped by this restaurant to grab some dinner to go. Once we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly waiter. We ordered the grilled chicken banh mi, grilled pork banh mi, grilled shrimp and pork with rice, and the house special rice plate. Our to go order came out in a timely manner. The grilled pork and chicken were tender and flavorful. The house special rice plate consists of pork chop, shredded pork, shrimp cake, and egg roll. The pork chop was tender and the shrimp cake was pretty tasty. The egg roll was fried to perfection and it was crispy on the outside. The prices are fairly reasonable and they were generous with the portions. We will stop by here again to try their pho and other entrees. read more

We decided to try a new pho spot. My wife found this place since she wanted banh sayoh. Parking wise - there is like two spots in front of the establishment but more parking in the back. I believe the back is like the loading dock for Safeway so there are people sitting there monitoring things so good in sense ones car may not be broken into etc. Anyways the banh sayoh was huge. I didn't think my wife would finish it but she did. I ordered the pho and it was delicious- I devoured my pho and the kids had a rice plate with grilled pork that they enjoyed. I also ordered the salted plum soda drink and it was good too. Service wise was good. We had to wait a little extra since we were a party of 5. The vibe there was causal and busy. Lots of folks coming and going and eating. The only thing I didn't enjoy was their cleaning product. As we waited for our table, I dunno what they used but it smelled bad. Smelled like an old rag used too many times in my opinion. After the chemicals dried up off the table there was no additional smell. read more

I had a delicious Vietnamese meal here at Pho Almaden. The staff was young and nice and I could see they were enjoying the food just as much as I was a couple tables over from time to time. The menu is diverse and I loved how that took me forever to make a decision. The eggrolls were small and cut in half so it was ideal for sharing. The fish sauce it came with was a good pairing. The Hue's Spicy soup was the worst choice for a 95 degree day but the best for my taste buds. It was a very large bowl with noodles and a flavorful pho broth that I enjoyed very much. The parking outside can be a bit tedious as it is along the strip side of Safeway but it isn't hard to park at the grocery store and walk over. Updating after 4 years later--Still one of my favorite spots, we come here probably every two weeks at this point. Food is always consistent, hot and delicious! Everything tastes fresh, brought some home for my dad to try last night and they packed him extra Jalapenos like I asked and he is now hooked and wants to go back soon! Service is always great, usually here with my toddler and everyone is so nice to her, and super attentive. Music is always playing, and I personally love whoever chooses the playlists lol. I think my opinion could be simply stated as "eh it's fine". I got a #1 Special Combo with Beef Balls and a #82 Banh Xeo to go. And that's a perfectly normal meal for one. Normal people order two entrees. It's normal. Knowing the tendency for banh xeo to become a gloppy mess, I started with that. First impressions - why did they make it so large??? Why is it in a family size aluminum container? Are they trying to make me look like a gluttonous fool? So yes it's a bit larger than I expected, which is fine. What was also fine was pretty much everything else. Flavor? Fine. Texture? Fine. Herbs and sauce included? Fine. Or replace "fine" with "okay" or "decent", you get the idea. The pho was also fine. I'd stop short of calling it good, as it's just average. Not bad, doesn't blow my socks off. Tastes a little beefy but not much depth. Meat is fine (there's that word again). The amount of herbs was kind of stingy and the noodles were a bit dried out and ended up breaking. So hardly setting the bar for pho. San Jose has a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and many of those make better pho than this. Granted a lot are a bit further from me, but I'm willing to drive for greatness. This pho and banh xeo meal was decidedly average and inoffensive but I'd only come back if I was desperate for pho and too lazy to drive further. They take credit cards, the parking lot is big but a little walk from the store. I got my food to go but the inside looked clean. read more

1st time visiting and I saw a team member about to have this delicious looking noodle soup. I asked what it was and he said: Special Combo Beef Noodle soup! And I did ordered it. It was fast served with a great and sincere smile. It was delicious! It smelled very very good! Came also on the side with the sprouts, basil, lime wedge and sliced jalapeños. All the utensils were clean, no sticky sauce bottles (teriyaki, hot sauce, ect) I did went 2nd time already! The 1st time didn't even had the time to take picture, for I was in a hurry to inhale the bowl! lol The price for the place is also very reasonable so I wholeheartedly can suggest this place with confidence to anyone who is craving a good noodle soup. A pretty decently sized pho restaurant located near the shopping centers around (Costco, mall, TJ's, etc.) It has ample seating and parking around the store. The menu is small but pretty easy to understand. Price wise is on par if not a little lower than other pho restaurants further away. The pho itself was on a slightly sweeter side (I'm assuming from the onions they use). Overall bowls were pretty big and had quite a lot of meat. Chicken wings were pretty good too. If ur in almaden and don't wanna head up to cupertino or little saigon area, this is the place to go! read more

So dissatisfied with our recent meal from here. Mainly because of the cost, which I understand has gone up everywhere, but as someone who's always on the hunt for the best deal, I can honestly say - avoid this spot. Our total for two chicken pho bowls, one order of spring rolls and one wonton bowl was over $70. I believe that price is very comparable to other pho spots so I'm not really batting an eye at that part. What I take issue with is the portions they are putting out. Each bowl of pho was roughly HALF the size as the ones you get at other pho restaurants so that was rather disappointing. Then I thought maybe the taste would be amazing to compensate but it fell flat. I wish I had taken a photo of it, but one of the chicken photos bowls we ordered, had maybe two slices of onion and five pieces of green onion. The noodles didn't even come up halfway into the bowl, and it was layered with a lot of chicken to make it look like it was more full than it was. maybe someone would prefer more chicken versus the noodles, but as someone who really enjoys those noodles soaked in the broth, I was rather disappointed. The springs rolls have to be the absolute worst part in my opinion. For the most part, an order of spring rolls comes with 3 and the sizing is usually VERY large to justify the cost. I believe on average I pay $6.50-$9 for spring rolls but $6.50 is usually for 2 rolls while the $9 is usually for 3. Again, the sizes usually justify the cost so I don't mind. But this spot charges $7.50 for just 2 and they are the smallest/saddest spring rolls I've ever had- and I've made them from scratch at home on occasion. I've attached a photo, to showcase the size, my hand looks huge holding them, whereas the other day I placed an order for 2 (from another business) and just one made my hand look small. This was our first, and last, time trying this spot, would personally not recommend. read more

Went with my husband for lunch today and we enjoyed the food here. I ordered pho with rare steak and tripe and my husband got Hue's spicy noodle soup (bun bo bue/ BBH). Solid broths, very flavorful. My husband usually doesn't like most food places we go to (critical AF when it comes to restaurant food) but he rated the BBH a generous 8/10, which is pretty dang high coming from him. The restaurant has booths and feels nice and cool with the AC running on this warm first day of Fall. Some cons: I didn't particularly like the sriracha substitute they use due to the shortage because it has a sour kick to it, but at least there's something. Their rare steaks are sliced way too thin and small. I need 3 of those slices to get one good bite. Also would be even better if they offer fresh noodles in the future. Since it's close to home and we both liked our dishes, we will be back. read more

They have a diverse menu, but it's evident that they specialize in each option that they offer. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and well-lit with natural light.
