Pho Tai Bo Vien

Pho Van is a hidden gem. Truly authentic Vietnamese. Pho has so much flavor, delicious broth is something you have at a Vietnamese grandma's place. The meat to noodle ratio can be worked on, but that's just being picky. Otherwise, highly recommended.

This place in my option is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Connecticut. They serve dishes that aren't common in other restaurants such as banh xeo, bo ne, and bbh! Their broths are superior! Must try

Best pho place around , the Owner is very nice. I work down the road and love to get take out on my lunch once in a while . The beef sandwich and Thai tea is my go to! You won't be disappointed . Very spacious and clean place .

BÀNHs XEO -- Vietnamese crepe filled with bean sprouts and wrapped in the lettuce with mint & fresh veggies

This restaurant located near Amazon doesn't look fancy, but the takeout traffic here is hopping! We chose to dine in and our server was great, patiently answering our questions and making suggestions. Always a huge fan of BÁNH MÌ (sandwich) because of the sweet and savory flavors and textures of the crunchy daikon radish, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro and sliced fresh jalapeños, I found the chicken BÁNH MÌ here did not disappoint. My taste buds were dancing from the combination of flavors!! The BÀNH XEO (Vietnamese crepe made with rice flour batter and filled with bean sprouts) was fun to try, eating a piece of the crispy crepe wrapped in a lettuce leaf with the mint & fresh veggies and dipped in fish sauce. It was a little greasy but we still enjoyed it. Again... the crunch of those fresh veggies! The BUN Vermicelli was good, as well as the fried rice I ordered to go. The container felt like it weighed about 5 lbs! When you visit, do not forget to top off your meal with SINH TÒ TRẢI CÂY (Creamy Bubble Tea). The Mango and Taro are simply amazing!

To the left, the inside of the undercooked crêpe, and on the left the outside of the burnt crêpe. I waited 45 minutes for this.

I am a longtime customer and have loved Pho Van over the years. Lately, however, I have had a different experience. I ordered takeout. I called at 6:42 p.m. I waited almost an hour from the time that I called until the time that my order was ready. I was told 25 minutes on the phone. When I got home, I found that my crêpe was burned on the outside and raw on the inside. This is the second time that I've had an issue here lately. I think the family needs to consider that they need additional help.

Goi Cuon Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork Spring Roll w/ Peanut Sauce)

Was looking for some Vietnamese food to comfort myself after getting off a long flight and I knew I had to come down to Pho Van not only because it was conveniently close to the airport but because I noticed that it was run by a sweet older Vietnamese couple. Upon arrival, the parking lot is super spacious and the restaurant was relatively easy to find. Just look for the Pho Van signage and you'll enter a set of doors, then you'll see a second set of doors located on your right. Immediately upon entry, the bells chime and you see the illustration on the whiteboard which asks guests to be patient with the service since they don't have much if any support staff. I was seated immediately as I came around 6:30pm on a Monday and was the only guest in the entire restaurant but it looked like they were busy with to-go orders. The table layout and paper menus align with what you'd expect from a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. You could also notice that the entire restaurant is very organized and clean. - Goi Cuon Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork Spring Roll) - It came with two rolls and the pork had a nice char to it. Not the most tender pork I've had but it's a satisfying appetizer paired with the peanut sauce. - Com Suon, Bi Cha, Trung (Rice with Pork Chop, Shredded Pork Skin, Egg Loaf, and Fried Egg) - This dish comes with regular steamed rice not broken rice in case that matters to anyone. The pork chop was nicely cooked and had a nice balance between lean and fattiness. Eggloaf was flavorful and not too try. Fried egg was perfectly crisp while still being runny. Portion is also huge! Is Pho Van perfect? Maybe not. But for the area, price, and taste, you can't complain. Bonus points for it being a literal mom and pop business. Service may be a bit slow but please remember that it's just an older couple trying to run the entire restaurant operation by themselves. I would definitely come back to support them because Pho Van deserves as much business as possible.

The place is small but clean. The food is fresh and flavorful. Definitely will come back again.

This is flat rice noodles with grilled chicken and mixed vegetables.

However, I felt let down by the service experience at this restaurant. After we ordered and the pho came, the table looked strangely empty to me. As someone who frequently eats pho; I realized it was because the waitress never brought the bean spouts, leaves, and lemon/lime slices to put into our broth. I asked if this restaurant serves it and she looked at me strangely and said it was already in the pho. I thought it was so odd, so I explained that when I usually go out for pho in my home state of Hawaii, usually there is a separate small dish brought to the table with all of these items to put into the broth. The waitress then asked if I wanted it and I said yes. About ten minutes later, the waitress brought out a plate and she said that in Avon, most people don't want the sprouts. I wasn't sure if this was because I look like most of the people from Avon (Caucasian), even though I am just visiting. If anything, couldn't she have at least asked if we would like it? We enjoyed our pho and were happy to eat it how we usually do and we ate all our extra bean sprouts. The waitress never came back to ask how was the pho or refill our water. I had to request a copy of my receipt because she did not print one out for me. When I was trying to fill out the receipt/tip, the waitress was trying to have a full on conversation with me asking about the financial burden of living in Hawaii... the timing of this sudden chattiness was not good for me. I was ready to get out of there. All in all, pho was great (thank you lady in the kitchen) but service could have been a lot better. Will probably not come back again. Sorry:(

What a cold and windy day and the air is salty and my windshield and coat shows it! Hungry, tired, and annoyed at the salty weather I walk in to a polite young man at the counter who warmly invites me in and tells me I can sit where I please...which I obliged after asking to use their restroom which was clean. I make my way to my table and the restaurant is picking up with more people checking in while there are others already present on the left side of this restaurant and few others await pickup orders. There seems to be just a small number of staff but they are very efficient and attentive. After I sat down I was expecting to be forgotten but nope! The young man walked over with a glass of water for me and took my order. There were so many great options on the menu so it was a task to decide butI did it! For a drink I choose the original milk tea with Boba pearls. For app I choose the grilled betel leaf with meat stuffed inside of it and for my main course I got the Hue's Spicy Noodle Soup. Everything from start to finish was delicious. I enjoyed my milk tea very much and finished it off after my meal. The Betel Leaf rolls are perfectly seasoned. I like mine dipped in Siracha. I ate it all! My noodle soup, OMG, the broth was amazing! Please taste it first before adding other sauces. It deserves to be acknowledged first. I'd drive 1.5 hrs back here just for this soup again. Its a must try. I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait to go back and bring my friends and family with me to try other things on their menu. BTW I enjoyed my meal so much I ordered their cold cut sandwiches to take home and share with my family as a treat upon my return home. I didn't get a chance for a pic for them cause I ate it and forgot lol.

The dining area is still very sparse in design and coverage. The wait staff were still apathetic, and the wait times for things is still a little long. The Korean fried chicken was very tasty, sweet and salty Korean bbq sauce on perfectly fried wings was delightful. We opted for the pho, and that was very good. The broth was rich and flavorful, no need to season it was perfect already. The brisket was tender and still had a strong brisket flavor. There was a good amount of meat to the bowl and the noodles were fresh. The noodles did clump a bit, but they easily separated when agitated. All of the sushi was not as successful. The rolls lacked any significant flavor and missed some basic elements of sushi preparation. The rice was not seasoned, was not sticky, and the fish was roughly cut. The spicy rolls lacked spice and the crunchy rolls lacked crunch. It was presented well, just didn't show the level of care the front of the menu had. We informed our server of the sushi problems and she apologized but still charged us for all the sushi. Making an otherwise great experience not so great. I would recommend those who come here to focus on the front of the menu exclusively. Those dishes are stellar and are well worth the asking price. The sushi menu on the back is basic in flavor, pricy, and only worth having if you really need sushi. It does limit their menu significantly, but the quality difference is drastic.

Now that I have tried Que Huong as they have been here for quite a while now, I realize this hole in the wall is one of my favorite places to get Pho at 9am. Upon walking in you'll quickly realize this is just another small Vietnamese Restaurant run by a family who simply just wants to serve their generational Pho. In a small restaurant like this, that's the vibe I'd want when eating Pho. But really this place isn't that small, there's a few tables up front but plenty of additional seating in an upstairs area. Per usual, I get the Beef Pho that has everything, the Pho Dac Biet. Immediately and in the best way possible, you can feel/taste the bone marrow in this broth more than usual in my opinion. It reminded me of when I ask for extra bone marrow oil in certain Pho restaurants but here at Que Huong, the damage was already done. It was amazing. The quality of the meat here is also outstanding. Nothing is better than getting thick cut pieces of gelatinous brisket that melts in your mouth in addition to the fatty broth. The service was quick, both times I have been here was in and out but never rushed. Everyone here is super friendly and simply grateful that you showed up today to try their wonderful Pho. Street parking out front and there's an open lot across the street as well. If you stalk my check-ins you'll see I frequent many Vietnamese Restaurants as I'm always seeking a bowl of Pho on my days off. I'll just end with this, I'll gladly add Que Huong to my rotation of preferred Vietnamese Restaurants. Maybe even within the top 3.
