Staff was very friendly but unfortunately the pho was awful. Extremely salty. We added the $5 brisket and all got was chucks of fat. Banh Meee has quite a history beginning as a food truck in 2017. Opening a brick and mortar location on Capitol Avenue in 2018, followed by a second location on Ann Uccello in 2020. Even though they've since closed their first location, they still serve one of the best meals I could ever want. They had expanded into 257 Asylum Street, still connected to their business in Ann Uccello where they have always operated the kitchen. You might be able to see the chef in action through the glass window. I've been told that this expanded section used to be a salon. The cool light fixtures used to be above where the pedicure station was and also another reason there is a sink on the main floor. This is not quite a wait-on-you type of restaurant. You place an order through the kiosks on the wall and service staff will provide it to you when it's ready. It would be the same thing if you'd like any additions, in exception to condiments which are on the table. There is a water dispenser available for self service and a sink is nearby to wash your hands, as well as where you can place your dishes when finished similar to cafes. My go-to is always their Dry Noodle. The Daikon Bowl is probably my second favorite. I usually look out for their specials. It's too bad they do not offer the same item too often. Had passed this place several times and since it was within a short walk from Theater Works, we tried it. Only difficulty was with the computer-based ordering. I was confused to start and unknowingly timed out on my order. The young gentleman in the front of the house quickly rectified it. My need in a good bahn mi is the correct bread and this place did just that! Excellent. I had the flank steak bahn mi and my dining partner the crispy chicken. Both were delicious, fresh and full of flavor. Skip the curly fries. Glad we got two different choices and split the orders. The room is cafeteria chic. Banh Meee is one of those spots that a friend brought me to and I just kept coming back. They're one of my go-to's for lunch downtown and expanded their space so you can dine in now! Definitely important to note: They're so quick if you're ordering for pickup! I've sacrificed countless lunch breaks to waiting for my food at spots downtown, even when I order ahead, but that's never been the case here. I typically grab a sandwich and my first choice is always the banh mi salmon. The salmon is fried so so well, and paired with the cucumber, you got the perfect crunch. Tried the salmon banh mi today and it was delicious! Note that the salmon is fried not grilled, gives a good crunch! Also the pickles are sweet not dill (took getting used to but yummy also). Overall a sweeter version of banh mi than I've tried before. Added a little sriracha and it was a satisfying meal! You order on a tap screen. One staff brings out the food very quickly. We got the crab and cheese egg rolls, bún thịt, and bánh mì cha ga chien. The crab and cheese egg rolls we were assuming would be like crab Rangoon, but they were very different. I tasted no crab, and they were very savory. Used to crab Rangoon being sweet. These just tasted like cream cheese stuffed in an egg roll wrapper. Very disappointing. The bún thịt ingredients were fine, as expected, except for the sauce. It was too spicy for me (im not used to the bún thịt sauce being spicy) so I had to add my own sauces from home and it didn't taste the same. And the bánh mì cha ga chien was probably the best thing we ordered. It tasted good, though my partner was thrown by the texture of the meat. He got it without the spicy sauce. Overall it was fine, but I've enjoyed other Vietnamese places better in the area so probably won't be returning. read more

I searched for a long time to find a banh mi like this spot serves. I love to order their pork banh mi with a bubble tea as my go to order. The bread they use is the perfect crispy outside with a soft inside. You can tell it's very freshly made and filled with the ideal ratio of bread to fillings. The veggies they put on are cut perfectly and are a wonderful compliment to the pork. I really enjoy their sauce that they put on the sandwich, it enhances the rich savory pork really well. How have I not reviewed this place? It's a great spot in downtown Hartford and perfect for the lunch crowd. You can order ahead on an app or just order when you get there via a touch screen. It's tight quarters inside but this is an efficient operation. I enjoy the pho -- it's got a nice broth too it. The banh mi is pretty good; for me, it comes down to the bread and it's just fine. The dumplings are good too but the egg rolls are delicious; you should order them with your dish for sure. The owners who run this are super friendly and helpful. A great place downtown. read more

I stumbled upon this place after work as I had a craving for Vietnamese food while in Hartford. I am SO glad I decided to come to Banh Meee as the food quality, portions, pricing and service were all great. The dining area is small-- maybe fits 15 people give or take-- but clean, and there are two touch screens dedicated to ordering in or take out (convenient for those like me with social anxiety or who like to see pictures of all the dishes). I liked that you could request extra veg or sauce on your banh mi for no additional charge. I decided to order bun bo hue and a banh mi and my dishes came out in 10-15 mins fresh and hot. I was blown away by how good the banh mi was-- quality baguette with the perfect balance of crispy crust and soft interior, tender seasoned fatty pork fried to perfection and a great ratio of pickled veg, cilantro and sauces. The bun bo hue was also especially good, and had great flavor. Adding brisket was an extra $3.50 (bun bo hue with no protein was $9.00) but I got really thick, generous slices of brisket. Throughout my dine in experience I also received great service, and was checked on frequently. You can tell the people at Banh Mee really care about their food and serving their customers. Very good Banh Mi for the area. Price is good, flavor is good, space is very small, and ordering is built for to-go. Girlfriend was on a soup kick as of late, so we hunted down a few soup places to try. This one was fairly new and well reviewed, so we made the trek into Hartford to give them a try. Parking is a little tricky. There are spaces in front of the shop however you will more than likely need to park in one of the pay lots or on the street a block or two away to get here. Once you're there, the space is very small, enough seating for about a dozen people but it's a cramped space. There's a couple large touchscreens you can use to put in your order, and the staff quickly assemble your meals in a small alcove attached to the main dining area. We got a pho to share, along with some spring rolls and a banh mi with some smoked pork butt. Food comes out relatively quick, server was accommodating to special requests and to answer our questions. Add ons did not require us to re-order, server was able to ring out an extra bread without needing us to go through the kiosk. The Bahn Mi was great! The pork was tender and seasoned well. It did have a lot of heat, but I enjoy spice so I enjoyed the sandwich. The Pho was good, cooked and prepared well. It was a little light on seasoning, so it needed a little extra soy and spice to elevate it to that next level. The spring rolls were okay. Reasonably stuffed, little greasy but crispy. Also a little too heavy with the carrot. But the pork was spiced well, and I enjoyed the little bite. Overall, it's not what I would consider a trek worthy place. It's a good place for a sandwich, great if you happen to be in that neck of the woods. Price was really good for the quality they produce. When you enter, the Self Service Ordering Kiosk is on the wall and it is User friendly. I ordered the Pho Vegan and added extra items. The dining area was clean also - nice wood tables - and the music set a chill vibe. Clean restroom. The pho was brought steaming in an insulated metal bowl and stayed warm enough to eat even after an hour. It was delicious!! The portion was enough for a lunch serving the next day. WOW - I am so impressed by Banh Meee! I have to admit, I'm a Vietnamese food snob after being spoiled for years by my mom's home cooking - but sometimes you just have to order food after a hard day of work! So this is about my third time coming here so I want to try the Pork Belly banh mi sandwich but can't stay away from their Noodle Bowl with Pork it's so good. I will say every time we've ordered from here the ingredients have been fresh and it's packed nicely for takeout with the sauce on the side. They do have some seating instead if you prefer to eat in. This was my second time coming to this place, the first was about four years ago. I remembered it being bigger (and brighter). We came on a Tuesday night and was welcomed to a dimly lit, cramped, and empty "restaurant". We saw a screen to self order so that was what we did. We didn't see any workers until we were almost done ordering on the screen. Prices were very reasonable, averaging around $10 for soups, bowls, or banh mi. I can't really complain there. There was a clear view into the kitchen which looked just as cramped and there were only two workers at the moment. At one point, one of them pulled aside a bar stool to stand on top in order to reach their stash of cups above. Our food came out fairly quick. I got the roasted pork butt banh mi and it was a decent cut of pork. I wished the actual bread was substantial enough to hold it as it broke pretty easily due to the size of the meat and the wet sauce. All in all, I was satisfied with the sandwich, but it didn't really satiate my cravings. I don't think I would return. The fries were good and crispy but we wished the ketchup was self serve somewhere as the tiny amount given to us was gone after five fries. read more

Incredibly delicious Vietnamese spot in Hartford! Came here with a group and it was a cute little spot with great service. My pork belly sandwich was stupendous and the portion was super generous.
