I love this place. Atmosphere is no frills, only about 4 or 5 tables but I've never had to wait. Same waiter is there every time, not the most talkative guy, but service is accurate and efficient. This place is fresh. You can watch the chefs (who remind me of someone's grandparents) make the fresh spring rolls right behind the counter. The pho broth is probably the best I've had. Amazing flavor, delicious Vietnamese meatballs, and tender rare beef. Again, the freshness comes through in the bean sprouts, jalapeños and basil that is provided along with the pho. I enjoy things spicy, so I'm always looking for a hot sauce or spice to add. There are two types of red pepper oils available. One is the typical kind you find with the rooster on the label. The other, darker oil however, is insanely spicy. Please be aware of that, you only need a dab of it, trust me. This place makes me want to eat pho every week, I'd definitely recommend it. read more

First of all, the customer service was superb. I walked through the doors a little after 5 and although 2 signs clearly said they closed at 5 on Sundays, the pleasant owner did not hesitate to take my order for takeout. I ordered the steamed rice, grilled pork chop with tomato, cucumber and lettuce, served with homemade fish sauce on the side. It was to die for! Oh, I almost forgot...the owner told the cook to place a few pieces of sliced pork in my order, so I could sample it. He sure knows how to satisfy a customer. I feel good about this place. If I could review this restaurant 0 stars I would, but unfortunately the lowest rating is 1. This restaurant is by far one of the worst restaurants to eat in for several reasons. 1. Let's start out by saying the service is just horrible. I get to the restaurant to seat for 1 person, and it took 8 mins just to get me seated, when they had multiple seatings available. 2. After I finally got seated, there was 2 parties who got seated shortly after me. I was sitting down looking at the menu ,waiting for the waiter to get my order. And as I looked to the right, the waiter was getting party number 2's order? Are you kidding me, I was seated before them! 3. After I got my order, and the other parties ordered theres too. We all waited for our food. Thinking the food would come in the order you placed it? Mine was placed 2nd out of the 3 orders, but my food came in last? 4. I never got a straw for my order the whole time I was there. 5. My bubble tea that I ordered with my food, came when I was about to leave? It was the worse bubble tea I have ever had. It literally had 3 tapioca pieces and tasted like milk. The food just gross, I couldn't even eat the chicken. It was all chewy with fat chunks all around the chicken. I felt I was getting food in prison. With all this being said, I would never go here again, recommend this restaurant to anybody, and I feel sick after eating from this place. read more

Not as good as my go-to pho spot, but this was good. The broth is flavorful and savory but it lacked the depth from spices that really great pho has...but I enjoyed that it wasn't overpowered by spices either, like some pho does. I got the brisket and rare steak and it was on par with most places. The noodles were a bit chewy and had a distinct flavor that I was not a huge fan of, but again, overall I liked it. I also had the pork, mint, lettuce, rice wrap. The pork was flavorful but did not have the sweet & savory depth that other Vietnamese places have. I decided to give this place a try since it was a new place and close to my work. I was a little concerned since the previous reviewers mentioned that the service was really bad, but it actually was not. I got there at lunch time, there were probably 4 other tables occupied at that time, the person seated me right away. This place is the bomb. Our flight got delayed on a cool day, so my son and I stopped by here for lunch. Service is polite and no frills. Best Vietnamese food in the area. Fresh ingredients, huge portions that include a lot of meat, and outstanding flavors in all of their dishes. Our go-tos are the pork Banh Mi sandwich (amazing), chicken pho, fried rice combo w shrimp, chicken, pork & sausage (Com Chien Pho Van) and the fresh summer rolls. I don't know what they use to make their beef broth for the Pho but words cannot describe how delicious it is. The fried rice combo dish is loaded with meat and has an amazing flavor. The hostess was delightful as soon as I entered seating me in a booth without request- my favorite. I immediately order the jasmine tea pot which arrived almost immediately, however lukewarm it was one of the most delicious brews I have tasted. After I was asked about four times what I would order by the host and a man who did not come off with the most polite demeanor. The hostess guided me through the menu with ease recommending the rare steak pho with brisket. However I was feeling adventurous and when the man without well mannered demeanor came over asking once again for my order I finally decided on the rare steak with tendon. When I ordered he alerted me that no credit card will be charged less then 15 dollars. Mind you all of this happened within about 5 minutes and I had not yet even touched my tea, immediately looking at the exit to just leave. He asks if it's my first time there and tells me he will do the smaller charge just for me. Mind you this entire interaction made me uncomfortable and I was still ordering about 13 dollars worth of food and drink even without tip. The pho arrived at my table within a few minutes. Absolutely stunning presentation with bean sprouts jalapeño and lime on the side. I must say adding the lime juice is an absolute must. Everything was outstanding however I was disappointed that the steak was just the frozen crap you use for cheesesteaks at home- I was sincerely hoping it would be slices of real rare steak which would've made up for the entire experience. The sriracha on the table was a beautiful touch and when I was ready to leave a very polite older gentleman packed up my order for me. Overall the atmosphere is adequate but not welcoming. The food was good but not good enough for me to go back. The only reason this establishment is receiving three stars is because the food was three star worthy. I love this place! Working around the corner in a huge industrial location there aren't many good spots to grab a quick delicious lunch! The prices are great and the food is even better. Originally started coming here for lunch to enjoy their Pho soups, recently branched out to their rice and noodle dishes and they're just as good. My first visit to the restaurant was painful. I ordered takeout, and could see there were many inefficiencies. The food is decent, but the bubble tea that I ordered was below average. It is a step up from powdered drinks I will say. I was waiting a total of 40 minutes to get my order, while people who were seated got their orders ahead of mine. At the time, there were only two servers, and I could see they were making the effort to try to serve others and get orders out, but it appears they need to get the process down, or hire more staff to relieve the burden and stress off them. Since they've just open, I'll give them another chance in the future and hope to see they have made improvements. I wouldn't recommend take out, or if you do, get there 15 minutes later. read more

it's kind of a whole in the wall, but believe me the pho is by far the best in CT. I've had pho in San Francisco and Vietnam (my daughter in law is Vietnamese) and Van does not take short cuts like many of the Pho restaurants. His stock is the real deal. Service experience here was aweful. 50 mins for food and not busy at all. Not even our appetizers came out in the 50 mins we were there. We asked them to change it to ToGo. Still took forever. The tables adjacent to us were complaining also, same situation. Maybe i came on an off day for them, who knows. Too many other pho places for this silliness. I read the reviews on here about Pho Van. It's hard to understand why people give this restaurant bad reviews. My wife and I found this place the first week it opened and never once had to wait and never once was the food bad. Today is our sixth time in six weeks. The owner is extremely personable as well as his son who is the waiter. Owner comes out and talks with the customers which I find to be awesome. I highly recommend this place. My only thought to the ones who didn't give this place a better review is to give it another try. They are just starting up and are getting better.
