We drove to this place to try it out. The service was not good. An angry looking lady seated us. She looked at me like she hoped I would choke on a chop stick and die. It took a long time for our food. My wife had to ask for hers and when she did it was obvious that they had forgotten the order. The pho was good, no complaints on that. The broth was average and the meat seemed to be fresh. The banh mi was horrible. It was not served on a traditional french baguette. There was two small pieces of meat. They should be embarrassed to serve that. The meat had a bit of a questionable after taste. The kids noodle dish was ok. The restaurant has very bad acoustics. The family next to us sounded like they were sitting with us. The banh mi was so bad that this review goes from 4 stars to 2. If I wanted half burnt bread with little meat and sparse veggies then I would just let my wife make it and save the time and money. Revised* I revised it + 1 star. Had good pho. For this review, let's set expectations with ratings first. 3-4* for service 3* for food (Pho and pork/egg roll vermicelli) 2* for overall, will explain Service was good, really great that the manager talk with and took our order. What we notice is when we tried to get service, the other wait staff seem to ignore our table because she has her assigned table(s). Focus on your table but monitor the restaurant, service is a team effort! Food rating is being nice. I would say for price, it should be comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants. Its good but not in a good Vietnamese restaurant way. Pho, it was beefy but missing that herb flavor. We ask for 3 beef per selection but only received 2. Pork in the vermicelli was a bit on the dry side and lack flavor that I'm used too from other Vietnamese restaurants. If this was a bit lower cost, airport/mall food, it would work but for standalone Vietnamese expectation is higher for the price. Overall we gave 2* because at the end, as I was trying to enjoy the pho broth, scoop up a bug. Yes a BUG! We told the manager and he apologize and took it off the bill. Second, we ordered Vermicelli noodles, leaf lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, pickled carrots, roasted peanuts & spring onions with fish sauce on the side. Favorite weekly pho place, my families been coming here for years and it's always legit good. We live in San Marcos and haven't had a good Vietnamese spot so we drive to Kyle and it's worth it every time! Best rangoons around for sure, I get the lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl and it slams so hard. Omg I literally drool it's so good. Then we get our 2 kids a big steak pho and they split that and I eat the rest and my husband always gets the steak pho no matter what. Also to top it off, they have amaazing service!!! I want to like Pho Thaison, but after three below average experiences here I can't bring myself to give them more than two stars. This location (next to the HEB Plus in Kyle) is nice and clean on the inside, with a decently stocked bar advertising happy hour prices and a sushi counter. The menu is fairly expansive, and there are vegetarian sushi and entree options. However, vegetarians and vegans must be careful - I ordered the vegetarian pho on my last visit, but before finalizing my order I wanted to make sure the broth was vegetarian. Our waiter said no, they recently started using chicken broth in all the pho bowls, including the vegetarian. Huh? Chicken is vegetarian? Anyways, I ordered the tofu and lemongrass instead. The tofu was lukewarm, as if it hadn't been cooked enough (a trait shared with the last dish I ordered, the Singapore tofu), came on a flavorless pile of rice noodles, and was slapped on a plate next to a handful of shredded iceberg lettuce. After adding plenty of soy sauce and sriracha, the meal was somewhat palatable, but not worth $8. The sushi rolls basically tasted like the veggie rolls from HEB - not awful, but nothing to write home about. For $3 though, they were decent after dunking them in wasabi and soy sauce. In summary, the food at Pho Thaison represents a below average Thai experience in a strip mall atmosphere, with vegetarian options that might not be so vegetarian. For San Marcos and Kyle, you might as well go eat at Thai Thai or Prik Nam Pla - both are better options than Pho Thaison. read more

Verily, you shall no longer have to drive all the way up to Austin just for a toothsome bowl of noodle soup!" And behold, it was true, and it was very good. We visited Pho Thaison for the first time yesterday on a long work lunch with a party of five (one of whom was a pho novitiate). I've long lamented that there is no Vietnamese food near our San Marcos stomping grounds, so was delighted to find this place (courtesy of yelp). We found a seat quickly, and were impressed that since its recent opening, it seems to have already amassed a faithful following. Though they took decent care of us, the service wasn't the most attentive. They got all the entrees right, but had a little trouble matching up the sides and drinks we asked for with what they actually brought us and what ended up on the check. (That all got sorted in the end.) The Pho was very nice -- flavorful broth, with abundant supplies of peppers, bean sprouts, and lime, with the Sriracha and plum sauce right on the table where you'd expect. The full menu also promises other delights, though we didn't venture further than the Pho this time. We were especially delighted to note that their wireless access point was named "pho shizzle". I've eaten at other locations and never had a problem. I was just there with my kids. Super excited to have Vietnamese food. The restaurant was a wreck. Obviously one waitress in the whole place. Just moved to Kyle with my girlfriend. Decided to finally get some food after a long day of moving. We decided to try out Pho Tháison today. The staff was friendly and greeted us right away. The menu was appealing. A wide variety of choices to choose from. We ordered the tofu vegetarian roll, and those were okay. Simple and tasty. My girlfriend and I shared the spicy curry with tofu and vegetables. And that dish just didn't do it for us. There were only onions as vegetables and if you're lucky, would come across a piece of carrot or dices of tomatoes. I wasn't so lucky. Overall, it was a okay dining meal. Walked inside and was confused to find no greeter welcoming us into the establishment. We were seated by the manager (i am assuming) who came about two minutes after we were just standing there. Drinks came, i got the coconut juice was sweet and refreshing and came with pulp. Our food came which was: fried rice, crunchy cali roll, and a #20 (seafood pho). We asked for a sweet and sour duck sauce for the rice and the guy gave us fish sauce. I had taken the squid out of my pho, and the manager came to our table and very rudely said "you dont like squid? How do you make a regular customer with a reasonable complaint an angry customer? Call the manager over by saying "angry customer on the line" and call the customer a choice word and laugh without putting the line on hold. We ordered beef and chicken pad thai and an order of crab rangoon. The pad thai had no sauce, no carrot shavings, no peanuts, no bean sprouts. It was pretty tasteless. The crab rangoon had about 1/2 teaspoon of filling in each one. The sweet and sour sauce that comes on the side was crusty. Seems like they had scraped the bottom of the jar to fill the little container almost halfway. Gross. I should have known that the food was going to suck when I walked in and the restaurant smelled bad, a sour smell. There were 3 tables with customers and as many tables with leftover plates on them. The floor was dirty with multiple straw wrappers scattered about. When I got home with the food and realized it was horrible, I called the restaurant to complain, but I was treated horribly. Oh no. I wanted to like this place, truly. We stopped here on the way back from the Austin Airport, en route to San Antonio. I was so hungry and not wanting any fast food, so we decided to stop here for a nice hot bowl of pho. Its a clean open area, and we were helped as soon as we got there. Customer service was good, but unfortunately, the pho was not. It was not super hot, and the broth was just off. There was onion and cilatro things that I have never had in pho. I ordered chicken breast and there was lots of tendon and things that should have not been in the soup. Not to mention it was like $10 bucks a bowl. My partner also really did not like his pho. I lived in San Jose, CA for a good amount of time, and this was where I was introduced to real authentic pho. This place really needs to work on their pho. read more

I'm honestly surprised at all of the positive reviews here. The floor was so sticky my sandals almost came off while I was walking. My husband got a high chair for our toddler that was so sticky and gross that even after scrubbing it down with baby wipes we cringed putting him in it. The restaurant was not busy at all, and it took our server a good five minutes to acknowledge we were even there. Now for the food... Honestly, how does the sandwich take longer to cook/prepare than the pork egg roll and noodle bowl? The meat was lukewarm and had the texture/taste of last night's leftovers. The sauce for my dish was not made authentically. The sandwich was decent, but definitely not a Vietnamese sandwich, and the pickled vegetables were not very pickled. When I unwrapped my fork and chop sticks, my fork was dirty with food still on it. While we were not expecting home cooked Vietnamese quality, this restaurant has lost its authenticity. I've had the beef Pho and a vermicelli dish with pork and eggroll, and my fiancee had a tofu dish when she accompanied me on my second visit. Here in Kyle, pickings have been pretty much nil. That is, until this last weekend in November, when Pho Thaison opened here! We went in on a Monday evening and ordered Pho all around. The friend egg rolls were just "ok." The Pho was just what I expected, and the portions were generous. The owners and waitstaff were very friendly, but a bit slow considering that it was a light Monday evening.
