Soup without much regard to the eenie teenie weenie miniscule size of the chicken which tasted great once I found them. These were the scrapings off the bones of what looked like dark meat. I added my own chicken boneless breasts into the soup and made it thick and filling. The other dishes I have had there are plenty good too. So that's my one and only complaint ~ please take this advice- you guys are WAY too good a restaurant to serve a meal where the meat looks more like tree bark than an edible fowl. 4Star!!! read more

I kindly asked them to replace the sides. The staff then returned with the exact same sides on a different plate (I took photos). The windows and floors were dirty. The service was hollow at best, and the manager was just staring at world cup on the TV. Called him over, pointed to my food with a friendly "c'mon man, you can do better than this. Overall, everything could've been better. The food is OK at best. I haven't had the pho here in years so I can't comment on that but I've ordered the vermicelli bowls the last few times I've visited. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not so good. The ingredients aren't always fresh. Also, the service is usually lacking. The last time I was in the restaurant, I waited for almost 15 mins and got no service and ended up leaving. The restaurant wasn't super busy, but I could tell they were understaffed. Update 4: Since last update, 5 years ago, this has consistently been a place we know we can get a good meal and wonderful service. Consistently. That's a big think given the past few years AND Kyle's food choices blowing up with tons of chain restaurants. Kudos to the family who runs it. We went in for dinner the other night and everyone was happy with their food, the staff was wonderful and we got bonus sushi. I'd ordered the spicy salmon roll and the spicy tuna roll came out. They quickly and happily made it right and left the tuna roll to the table. Still I say the best bang for your buck is the delicious grilled pork vermicelli bowl. My wife liked the pho. Probably the best Pho south of Austin. The ambiance of the establishment is simple with focus being on the food. TV's are scarce so it encourages conversation and eating rather than needless outside influences, ahem... put down the phones! The edamame is good and traditional, the egg rolls are tasty and the seaweed salad hits all the right notes. The pork ribs I found a little dry but the flavor profile and the meat are very good. Other notable apps are the fried calamari, crab rangoons and the dynamite shrimp. On to the main dishes. I ordered the Saigon yellow curry with pork and it wasn't very good with little protein. I asked for mild and got very hot, in fact my eyes were watering the whole time. Moreover, it didn't taste like yellow curry and lacked a lot of the mellow coconut cream flavor. The fried rice was serviceable but without any flair. Finally, the Pad Thai was decent but the details were glazed over. Very little fish sauce in the back ground, only a few shrimp, and my mouth struggled to find the tamarind. That said all the signature toppings were present and cooked accordingly. As for the signature dish, I opted for Beef Pho, it's the best I've had so far. In fact it was so good, it swayed my opinion of Ramen vs Pho to be about equal depending on my mood. The broth was flavorful, the options were fresh and plentiful (sprouts, basil, cilantro, etc). The only critique I have is the eye of round should be raw at the table, so I can control the cooking. Instead it was already in the soup, making it overdone by the end of the meal. That said, I'm going back and tell the server to put it on the side and I'm sure it will be a five star experience. All in all PhoThaiSon is a good restaurant. The apps and Pho really shine and the staff is quick to give you the meal and extremely helpful. Entrees outside of the Pho need a bit of work but can satisfy in a pinch. I've been three times and will be going back for some outstanding Pho! read more

Girlfriend and I went here for lunch before shopping for HEB. Jennifer N. was our server. We ordered two tofu spring rolls, two hot teas, two waters, Combo Pad Thai-Son (Chicken and Shrimp) and vegan pho. Server was short with us the minute we arrived. No eye contact. No smile. She was set on taking our order all at once. We usually order an appetizer first because it takes a while for entrees to come out. I ordered Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai-Son. Order came out as Beef and Shrimp Pad Thai-Son (see attached pic). I feared bringing this up with Jennifer because I could tell she was already annoyed with us. Asking for the check: they don't give you an itemized check to review prior to checkout. They just tell you the total amount due and wait for your card to pick up. When I asked for a receipt, I received a half-crumpled paper (see attached pic). I thought the food was pretty good up until now. It's the customer service that I am disappointed in because I work hard to at least enjoy not having to cook once in a while. The least I should expect at a restaurant is a welcoming environment with staff who actually enjoy what they do. However Our child's chicken broth was very bland and the pork in my vermicelli was burnt . Noodles were just ok. I was overwhelmed with their menu theres so much to choose from from Thai to Japanese and Vietnamese. Restrooms were clean but the interior and ceilings of the restaurant could definitely use a bit of updating . It was hard not to look up and notice the ceiling tiles next to the air grills had tons of water damage and I could just picture a tile falling at any moment. The booth we sat in the wall that separates the booth was dirty. Food - I ordered the Lemon grass chicken with egg noodles and it was super greasy!! My sister got a beef bowl of some sort and said the meat tasted strange. Sadly there aren't many options in Kyle for really great Asian cuisine.
