I've officially lost my Pho virginity and at risk of becoming a real Pho Hoe!! My BFFF(best foodie friend forever) and I went here due to the coupon offer they listed on Yelp - mention Yelp and you get a special deal!! Buy one entree and two drinks and get a free entree!
BTW .....I have a strong feeling this will be a long review so for those of you who dont have the IQ to retain focus for longer then it takes to read a comic strip go ahead and skip to the next review! *cough cough*
ANYWHO..........
I had never had Vietnamese food so I enjoyed it and look forward to trying other items!
The family owned business has a sweet homie feel to it, and the two people we talked to were both just as sweet as can be.
Ok so lets start in the parking lot....... parking was great, right at the door. We were greeted very warmly and asked to choose anywhere we wanted to sit. We were the only customers there!
The first thing I noticed was how nicely decorated the place is, and that someone was cleaning and the place was clean. Even the bathroom!
Our waiter was the owners son, and he answered all 1,999,956,873,864 questions that dear sweet little Lisa R asked him and was full of information about the food, how it was cooked, what went into each dish, how it was marinated, and on and on and on and on ....... :-) He knew his food thats for sure and he didnt seem to mind all the questions.
So on to the food...... we ordered a combination appetizer platter. It came with 2 fried pot stickers, 2 egg rolls, and 2 spring rolls for $5.50
Lisa decided to have the BBQ pork Chow Fun, and I had the #4 brisket Pho. I totally fell in love with the pot stickers....... I think maybe the Lord himself was in back making them. I could seriously (try to) eat about 50 of those - they are THAT good!!!!
I tried a little of Lisa's Chow Fun - and it wasnt really FUN at all - it was kind of lame, flavorless, and greasy - which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.
The Pho....... OHHHHH lets see maybe I'm just hyping this up because it was my first time having pho, but WOW I really understand now what all the hype is about.
If the other reviewers are right and there is better pho to be had, then it would just be way toooooo much for my heart to handle! God forbid I dare eat ANY pho in the Bay Area I know it would be so good (as I've heard all things ARE better in the Bay) I'd just fall over dead from sheer joy and excitement!!!!
Sooooo I "tested" my pho just as it came, and it was good but I'm an adventurous kind of gal who LOVES REALLY HOT and SPICY food, I'm talking about I want steam coming out of my ears, and to be able to spit fire after I eat something HOT! So I first added in all the little condiments they gave me - basil, mint, cilantro, bean sprouts, limes, and fresh sliced jalapeno peppers and while I loved the flavor and added heat it still wasnt hot enough so I went for the salsa like stuff they had on the table..... and when that wasnt hot enough I reached for the rooster sauce and my bowl of pho turned into a smoking HOT inferno!!!!! PERFECTION!
I ate as much of this giant bowl as I could and have enough left over for at least one maybe two more meals!! If that was a small I can't even imagine how HUGE a large would be!
For anyone who complains about the portion amounts given - are just pigs!
My only complaints are...... ((((((drum roll))))) the peanut sauce was watery and not very flavorful, the egg rolls were over cooked - nearly burnt and dry, and they served us the appetizers and before we even had time to eat a 1/4 of that, they brought out our other food. I really like to have time to enjoy the appetizers THEN get the other food...... I like fast service but they are a little TOO fast! Its more of a pet peeve then a real complaint because what kind of person complains about quick, friendly service....... :-)
I have every intention of returning here soon (while they still offer the Yelp special!) and plan to try the chicken pho and fried rice and as many pot stickers as I can stuff into my mouth!!!!!
Final thought...... as I was sitting there wolfing down my giant bowl of Pho.... I kept on thinking.......
If my PawPaw and MeMaw back home could ever try Pho they could finally forgive the Vietnamese for the war! read more
