Been here twice and loved my dining experience here twice. The restaurant is very spacious with a bar in the middle. Even though the sign upon entering says "please wait to be seated," they give you the option to pick any available seating they have. The service here is always friendly and quick and informative if you're not custom to traditional Vietnamese cuisine. What I like most about Golden Dragon is that they have food like bánh xèo (Vietnamese savory crepe that's filled with either pork or shrimp), bún riêu (vermicelli noodles in a tomato crab soup), bò bía (a lot like a spring roll but the usual fillings are jicama, Chinese sausage, eggs and herbs, bò kho (beef stew served) with bread but you can also add noodles among the popular Vietnamese dishes. The food here reminds me of home. The first time, I tried their bun bo hue because I'm a sucker for well made bun bo hue (this place lets you add in the spice yourself so you can have adjust the spice to your liking). I love the chả lụa (Vietnamese ham), pork blood, tendon, beef slices in it topped with shredded cabbage, thai basil and lime juice. The broth is hearty and warming. Food was fantastic. I had the duck over rice, and it was cooked perfectly with great flavor and texture. Every appetizer we tried was tasty and crisp, clearly made fresh and done right. Just meh to be honest. They didn't have many vegetarian options. I was craving pho, but of course they did not have a non-meat based broth option. But that's fine, it was the service or lack of that stood out. The servers were not very friendly. This Viet Restaurant has one of the best Bánh xèo I've ever had. The thin pancake has a slight chewy interior texture while the exterior is crispy and crunchy. It is stuffed with ground pork, shrimps, bean sprouts and mung beans and is eaten as a wrap with lettuce, mint and other pickled veggies which they give you a huge helping of. Dip it in their special fish sauce and you'll constantly crave for this incredibly tasty dish. Its large serving size is definitely shareable unless you have a huge appetite. The Golden Dragon took over the old location of Pho 999, in the Franktown Corners shopping center. The interior is spacious if not a bit spartan. We went with a large group of friends, so lots of pics of the dishes. The consensus was that the food was "Good". My wife had the Korean Short Ribs over Rice. I was able to sneak a few bits. This dish was really good. The short ribs had a nice, grilled taste. The ribs were flavorful and tender. Really Good. I had the House Special Pho. A traditional Pho dish, served with rare steak, brisket, tripe, tendon and meatballs. What determines if a Pho is good versus amazing is often the broth. On this occasion, I thought the broth was just "okay". Overall the dish was fine but not the best Pho I have ever had. The service was good, as the restaurant was quite busy for a Sunday evening. My friends used to come to 999 Pho when it was still at this location and when my boyfriend and I heard that there's a new pho place that took over, we were excited to try it. Our first impression was that the atmosphere has been completely transformed and got a new make over - the interior of this restaurant is nice and spacious! We came on a Friday night and it was not completely busy to the point where we had to wait to be seated but quite a few tables, especially large parties, were filled. We were seated right away. Though the host asked another waitress to seat us but then the waitress went to cater to another table after being asked to do so. It was a few seconds until she realized we were waiting for her to seat us and apologized and told us we can go to table that we liked. My boyfriend and I ordered the house special pho, rare steak pho, spring rolls, and a thai tea. There was no sauce dishes on the table so we had to ask them for it when we received our pho. Food was okay. The biggest issue I had was that we never received the thai tea. It took me until after we got our pho that I realized we never received it. I was planning on asking the waitress for the status on it but at that point I didn't want it anymore after the service we experienced. They still charged us for the thai tea on the receipt so we had to ask them to remove it. A waitress came by and dropped off a complimentary green dessert which we appreciated though she didn't say a word to us or told us what it was. I dropped by Golden Dragon to puck up food and a taro boba drink to-go. When I arrived at the restaurant, there were a handful of customers scattered about the massive dining area, and I waited a few minutes before being greeted by the proprietress/cashier. I informed her I wanted to order food (the "Heaven & Earth" plate) and a taro boba drink for takeaway. After a few minutes the lady returned with the check, a short while returned with my food package up and informed me she will make my boba drink. After a few minutes she dropped off my boba drink, picked up my sign receipt and I was out the door. When I uncovered my food at home, the scent of deliciousness wafted from the container; they should rename this dish "Heaven on Earth" because it was melt-in-your mouth good. The rice, sauce and fresh tomatoes by itself was delectable; that sauce was money! The whole dish was pretty enjoyable and filling; it's a little on the pricier side ($25 for one entree) but it was satisfyingly delicious, the price wouldn't deter me from ordering it again; although, it wouldn't be an everyday kind of treat. Review #003 - 2026 The restaurant is big and clean. When we showed up at around 7:45 PM on Friday, Feb. 13th, we were seated right away as there were plenty of seats available. I ordered the roast duck noodle soup, which was actually pretty flavorful, but the duck pieces were dry. I asked for chili oil and the lady brought me some crushed fresh chilis and they were definitely SPICY! My daughter had the meatball pho. The broth was just ok, but it did the job to feed a hungry little girl. My friend had the pho dac biet, and she said the broth was just ok as well. Her daughter ordered a bunch of appetizers. She complained that the popcorn chicken wasn't good so she pretty much left the whole order untouched after only taking one piece. She had one piece of the fried dumpling and said it didn't taste good either, so she also left that whole order untouched. She enjoyed the fried egg rolls though so that was a good sign, one out of three is not a great ratio though. I liked my sugarcane drink, but it was really sweet so I hope they didn't add extra sugar. My daughter had the fresh orange juice, which I did specify not to add sugar and she finished it. My friend's daughter had the fresh squeezed limeade with sparkling water, which she enjoyed. Service was friendly, but not attentive as they rarely came to check on us. But it wasn't really spicy, had to add more hot sauce. My son got the beef stew noodle soup and it was really good! Really good flavor, had yams in it which was delicious! We loved the previous restaurant here. But that restaurant moved down to our part of town. So when we saw the "new" place open up we headed there as soon as the Vietnamese food craving hit. Came in and IT'S REMODELED. Place looks better than ever. Plenty of seating, some family style with benches on the wall. They also have a couple games inside for the kids. We tried multiple things. The eggrolls were nice and crispy!!! And the basil chicken appetizer was very crisp but it's a different kind of crisp, super delicious. I tried the banh canh and it was very good. The broth was tasty and the meats as well. I wish the noodles were a little bit more chewy, it kinda just fell apart, no gumminess to it. This is the kind of place I wish we had more of. It doesn't stop at your typical pho, rice noodle bowls, and banh mi sandwiches. Sure they have all of those, but they are also bringing more specials, and unique food items that you don't usually see in Vietnamese restaurants in the area. As this was my first visit I decided to try my Vietnamese benchmark dish, plain rare-beef pho, but I also wanted to try some of the more unique items so I got the dried shrimp and sausage roll appetizer. The rolls were good, the sauce they came with was the perfect blend of peanut, and umami flavors. The pho broth had a nice good flavor, with some of the subtle flavors you find in the best broths, but it didn't quite measure up with some of the best ones I've had. The noodles were fresh, and not over-cooked which I appreciated (nothing ruins a bowl more than boiled to hell pho noodles for me). The staff was fun and friendly, and got our food out to us fairly quickly. Also the remolded space shows that they took some time to make the place as enjoyable as possible. I was able to get in to the grand opening of this, and it was such a treat! I've been to plenty of Vietnamese restaurants, but I believe Golden Dragon has some entrees that are unique. I tried the Banh Xeo which is a very thin crepe that appears like a large omelette stuffed with pork, shrimp, bean sprouts and carrots. And you eat it by wrapping it in a lettuce and dipping it in their fish sauce. This was so unique and so good!! The crepe was so large that I even had some leftovers. We also had the traditional pho, which was also huge. Plus they provided us with a ton of vegetables to add into the soup. They really don't skimp here! My new favorite place for pho! Usually we order pho on DoorDash from here. I brought my family here to try and my viet parents (picky eaters) enjoyed the meal. The staff was nice and owner came around to chat with us too. My parents approved of the xoi man (savory sticky rice) and banh cuon dishes, so it passed the test lol. The che ba mau dessert is pretty good and I recommend eating the banh bao at the restaurant. If you take it home, the bao bottom can get soggy. It's nice to see some authentic viet dishes that you can't get elsewhere in Reno/Sparks. I do recommend trying their specials! I love their Yang Chow fried rice, it has Chinese sausage in it and some big prawns hidden inside. We got the fried rice to take home. One of my new favorite Vietnamese restaurants! It was my first time here and I ordered Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee), Pot Stickers, Egg Rolls, and Bun Bo Hue. The iced coffee was served freshly brewed with a sweet cream. Even with the cream it was very strong but still delicious. The Pot Stickers were golden and crispy on the outside and filled with juicy meat on the inside. It was served with a savory sauce and pickled veggies. The Egg Rolls were served with pickled veggies as well and also vermicelli noodles and sweet/spicy dipping sauce. Underneath the noodles there was some kind of spicy sauce. I like spicy but it was a bit much for me. The Egg Rolls were super crispy and the dipping sauce complimented it well. The Bun Bo Hue was amazing. The portion size was huge. I couldn't even finish it. The bowl was filled with lots of noodles and meat. The sides it came with looked and tasted very fresh. I loved the meats that it came with but I could do without the pork blood. It was a chilly evening and the Bun Bo Hue was a perfect pick me up. The service was excellent. The waitress came to check on us plenty of times. They have lots of seating for larger groups too. There were TVs but they weren't on yet. I was excited to try this new spot , formerly pho 999 on Kietzke. They did a great job expanding and renovating this space with bright , inviting lighting. We were greeted right away as well with friendly service. I had the bun Bo hue and it just didn't hit the spot for me. The broth is usually the contender for me and it was quite underwhelming. I like my broth hot and this came out warm . The flavors also wasn't there for me and not enough spice and flavor. Same thing with their tea - came out warm and not as hot as I'd like. Maybe it's just me? I did love the Banh Xeo - a Vietnamese pancake stuffed with shrimp pork bean sports and carrots with a side of dipping sauce. Tried this new Vietnamese spot in town and walked away pretty impressed with most of what we had! We started with the popcorn chicken, which was cooked very well,nice and crispy on the outside, but it lacked seasoning. Not bad, just could've used a flavor boost. The nem nuong cuon (grilled pork rolls) were solid. They were fresh, tasty, and well balanced. A great appetizer and will likely be part of my normal order. I was really excited to try the bun rieu, and I'm so glad I did. It's one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes and I can only get it when my mom makes it or if I visit LA, and this place is the only one in town that offers it. The broth was rich and comforting, had all of the different meats(though the meatball was a different texture than i'm use to but it was still good), it hit all the right notes for my bun rieu craving. Oddly, it's not listed on their online menu, but it was on the printed menu. I really hope they keep it on permanently! Another standout was the Heaven and Earth plate which was a combo of roast duck and crispy roast pork. The duck was juicy and flavorful, and the pork was moist with perfectly crispy skin. The dipping sauce that came with it was delicious and tied everything together. I saw a picture of the heaven and earth plate with bbq pork instead, but I am so glad that it came with the crispy roast pork, it was delicious! We also had the beef stew with bread (bo kho), and while the beef could've been a touch more tender, the flavor was deep and savory. The bread though, wow! Easily some of the best bread I've had! To drink, I got a ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk) and it was spot on. It was strong, sweet, and refreshing. I usually like to wait until the end of my meal to prepare and drink my coffee so usually the ice is melted. Once I started mixing my coffee, the staff was so great, they brought a fresh cup of ice without me asking! That was top tier service! Service was excellent, attentive, but never overbearing. Friendly staff and good pacing. The inside was clean, bright, and open. Felt very comfortable. One thing I'm really looking forward to is going back to try their banh mi. The bread was so good that I have high hopes. I noticed the printed menu has the traditional combination banh mi, but it doesn't appear on the online menu. That's a staple, and I really hope it stays! I will also try asking if they can make me a crispy roast pork banh mi since I think those two together will be absolutely phenomenal. The pho broth was delicious, I love how you could really taste the beefi in the broth. The flame broiled beef also tasted really good. Have stopped by Golden Dragon a couple of times and was pretty satisfied! However, the bread was amazing!! After having it with my stew I was dying to try it as a sandwich! It was super soft but had a nice outer crust. My favorite dish had to be the Heaven and Earth plate. Both the crispy pork and the roast duck had so much flavor! I also loved the dipping sauce it came with. I would highly recommend this dish! My second visit I tried the wings, the chicken pho, and one of the sandwiches. I was admittedly a little disappointed by the chicken pho. It didn't quite live up to my expectations of the chicken pho I've had in LA. I wish it had come with a dipping sauce but it's just a different style than my preference. Delicious Pho that rivals that from Seattle! My fiancé recently went to Seattle and said that was where her new favorite Phó is, she was sad as she felt that she would never get to taste that again here at home. I've been waiting for the place to open ever since I found out they took over the old Pho 999 location. My family and I were able to visit yesterday. My experience here was ok. First off, they expanded the restaurant and it looks very spacious now with more seating available. Looks like they also kept the open kitchen concept and redid the front counter. I understand that they probably just recently opened and that they are working out the kinks. With that said, there was probably 3 other parties in the restaurant and it took about 30-45mins for us to get our food. The food also was just ok. I got the house pho and I thought the broth could use more seasoning to it. The brisket pieces were larger instead of being thinly sliced which I wasn't a fan of because I had to really chew down on it. Also, their homemade chili sauce was a really good addition to the pho. The spring rolls were pretty basic and the Banh Mi was good. I really liked that they had sugar cane drinks, but it's a slushy version which I wish they just had it as a juice. Came back again today with my friend Dave and ordered the roasted duck, and it completely delivered. The duck was beautifully done with crisp skin and tender, juicy meat. Deeply savory, rich without being heavy, and clearly cooked with care. Paired with the rice, fresh herbs, and pickled vegetables, it was balanced and satisfying from start to finish. One of those dishes that feels straightforward on the surface but really shows skill in the execution. Service continues to be excellent. Long is always friendly and welcoming, and he has a way of making the place feel comfortable and familiar the moment you walk in. It genuinely feels like you're being taken care of, not just served. Went here for lunch with my son who was craving pho, and this place did not disappoint. The soup was a delicious and flavorful. The portion was perfect and the service was great. The wait staff and owner constantly checked in to make sure we were OK and if anything else was needed. Almost forgot to mention the best part! They have sugar can juice! Highly recommend their Bun Rieu (I think only available for dine in) and their beef meatball pho is top tier. Staff is super nice and the food came out pretty quick. We came around noon and the restaurant was pretty busy. Nonetheless, service was prompt and great. I love how much more open the restaurant is compared to before. We ordered the Heaven and Earth (duck, pork belly, & rice) & the banh canh cua (thick soup with crab). Both 10/10. Heaven n earth was moist and crispy in all the right places. Soup was massive and packed with flavor. I'm familiar with the soup & knew there'd be some pork in the soup, so for anyone that is a pescatarian or doesn't eat pork, just be aware. At the end,it was a nice touch when they gave complimentary coconutty jello dessert. read more
