We came here because we love local spots. Son is at UNR and we love chicken wings. They claim to have the best wings in Reno. Gotta say, they are the best I've had in Reno. Had the Cajun dry rub. Up front confession - I am not a wings fan so cannot attest to the quality of their primary product. We were in the area to see the play at Reno Little Theater. After looking over their menu we decided to give it a try. They have a good variety of non-wing items to choose from. I decided on the Awfully Midtown (an homage to the Awful Awful?) It was a LOT of burger with a HUGE side of house made fries. The burger was good and the toppings and the bun were fresh. Ordered 2 sets of wings. One dry rub and one with hot sauce. They came in the same box separated by thin foil so the spicy sauce ended up on my dry rub wings. I hate spicy - my gut doesn't tolerate it and I was shocked the to go box had all the wings in 1 box. The chicken was quality - tender and overall great flavors. The other huge disappointment was the side order of fries. As I mentioned I don't tolerate spicy and we ordered basic fries and they came coated in a super salty extremely hot/spicy coating. How can you not warn your customers that fries are spicy! So most of my meal was ruined since many of my wings had the spicy sauce from the other order and I couldn't eat the fries. So glad we happened to find this spot! Every interaction we had with staff was great. The food was all really good. I have been looking for a wing spot that has a good selection with good wings. I got flats only for an extra charge (absolutely fine and expected). The fries were something that really stood out and I can't stop thinking about them. This place is awesome. What a great venue. Clean, big, great bar, and even some loud music potential and maybe some dancing, I see so much potential, they just have to get their name and location out there. I found out about them on restaurant.com. they have a good deal on there if you are looking to save some money. We ordered a bunch of wings, so and appetizer platter, and a salad. They have so many sauce choices. And they are wiling to let you sample a couple if you would like to. The staff was super helpful. My friends and I were looking for a place to get wings, and one of my friends suggested this place. I love trying out new restaurants and foods, so we decided to go. I really liked how they had the bar side separated from the restaurant side. They do have tables where the bar is as well! Staff were SUPER friendly and we felt very welcomed! They had a very chill and cozy vibe. Foodwas great! I really loved how the outside was crispy, while the meat was still juicy and not dry! They have MANY flavors to choose from. I've stopped in a few times since they changed ownership last year and have had all good experiences. I always sit at the bar and the bartenders are friendly and engaging. On my last visit I spoke with the owner and she said they were looking at sprucing up the place a bit to make it more inviting. And I've noticed on their social media that they are starting to run more events and specials. Speaking of, they have great happy hour specials, and a Wing Wednesday special every week. I really wish I could do wings more often. But sadly they are a serious setback to my dietary restrictions for my health. So I will just bask in the glory of my wing king memories. Man, I was so hyped to try this place after watching the Hellfire wing challenge on youtube. I'm always down to subject myself to pain and suffering in order to find the spicest grub in town but this place really let me down. Went in here today and there was only 2 customers in the whole place, it has a nice ambiance, probably the best in town as far as wing places go. It felt dim and cozy. As far as food, I got the inferno wings and fries and my food was done in under 8 min, which I didn't think much about because it was slow but it should have been a red flag. One thing that really really ticks me off is when the kitchen can't even get fries right. They take like 5 min in a fryer so there is no excuse to get limp, soggy overseasoned crap. Either I got someone else's left over Doordash order or they tossed some old heat lamp radiated fries back in the fryer to heat them up. The lone piece of celery was also warm and limp. The wings were the same way, like they were precooked and sitting in a warmer for a while but they were at least edible and I thought the sauce had nice flavor and although not the spicest chicken I've had in town, they do pack a punch. Honestly, this place is beyond a little disappointing to me! I've attempted to give them multiple chances but it always disappoints. The staff is phenomal but for some reason their food is ALWAYS subpar. They have over 100 different wing flavors but they do not season their chicken before frying. It's almost like they take the frozen wings and throw them right by in the fryer. The only thing I have ever liked are the fried chicken wings included with the chiccen and waffles BUT everything was extremely "meh"! The grits, are not it. The waffles are not it. But they are trying to establish a night club environment on the weekends which is pretty cool. Going for the food is just not worth it to me. Impressive! This place is pretty casual. Bar seating on one side with more tables near the kitchen on the other side. We've tried the wings, Gouda bites, and fries. We learned you can ask for the fries without the batter. The only con for us is that the back room near the kitchen does smell a little like fryer oil so we sit away from the kitchen doorway. Our favorite wing flavor is the Jamaican Jerk Hot. I've never liked Mac n Cheese bites anywhere else, but these Gouda bites have a nice crisp to them and we'd definitely order them again. The flavors we ordered were all very different than each other and each tasted great. The burger we got was good tasted fresh and flame grilled. Only complaint might be the fries bit too much salt and flavoring they thrown on and texture reminded me of wing stop fries not crunchy or crisp but this can come down to personal preference. We were drawn to this restaurant for the Awfully Midtown Burger, their take on the Awful Awful at the old Little Nugget. First, the restaurant is located on the south end of Midtown, with plenty of parking in the back. It has a sports bar feel, with plenty of seating and sports paraphernalia on the walls. The service was fantastic. Stella, who served us, was outstanding, very attentive, and friendly. Every other staff member we encountered was very pleasant and welcoming when we walked in. The food was good. The Awfully Midtown was juicy, the vegetables fresh, and very flavorable. The fried pickles and onion rings were crunchy and done right. The only area for improvement were the wings. They were dry and overcooked. I'll give the wings a try again later, as it could be a bad batch or just a one-time cooking error. I found myself up in Reno on a 49ers game day because I had some work done on my truck sooo... I had to figure out a place to watch the game. Honestly, Buffalo Wild Wings came to mind as a possibility - mainly due to my familiarity with the chain - but BWW was clear across town from my location, so I looked for something closer and Wing King caught my eye. My first impression walking in the door was "friendly"... since I'm already comparing against BWW, I'll say the Wing King is a much cozier environment - both size-wise and general atmosphere. I was wearing a 49er jersey for game day, so it was pretty apparent that I was there for the game and the staff suggested a few places for me to sit so I could have a good view of the TV(s). And then, I was given the "bad news" that several tables in the middle of the dining room were reserved for Raider fans! (the enemy!) So if you're a Raiders fan, this appears to be a place Raiders fans hang out. The owner of Wing King was nice - he even called his son to come keep me company (his son is a 49ers fan). We all got along... I even bought some raffle tickets from the Raiders group. I didn't win any Raider swag, which is fine by me - haha. Anyway, back to Wing King - wow - so many flavors for wings - far more than any other wing place I've been to. They obviously have the typical flavors but also some very creative ones. It'll definitely take awhile to try all the different flavors I wanted to try. Drinks were great too! They have a full bar, so lots of options. Don't waste your money here. I ordered two pounds of wings from Wing King (and paid an additional $6 for all flats). When I got home I weighed my wings and I only had 1 pound and 2 ounces, nearly a pound shy of what I ordered. When I brought this up with the staff, they were very kind and said they would go get the owner to explain. When the owner came she told me that they weigh their wings before cooking which is understandable. But it is not possible for two pounds of raw flat wings to cook down to 1 pound 2 ounces including sauces. The owner was very short tempered and refused to refund my order. When I first seen this fantastic business online, it was a recommendation of a Facebook friend so Jennifer thank you. Walking in, we were actually seated by the owner. I looked at the menu to see what was involved. It has two Buffalo chicken wings, jalapeño bacon and fresh vegetables! It was delicious! I definitely recommend you try that! Service was fast and friendly. The joint was clean and it was easy to be seated on a Saturday mid-day. There is a whole bar area separate from the restaurant so it is family friendly. Multiple tvs had sports on for those looking to chill and stay a while. They have SO MANY flavor options for wings, it's legitimately mind blowing. Everything was clean and decor was unique to anything else I've seen in Reno. With posters of Marley on the walls, you can't go wrong. I had the bomb diggity burger and it came with onion rings and fried curds ON THE BURGER! It comes with half a pound of fries, which honestly felt a bit too generous, but no complaints here. The people are very friendly. The establishment is clean and appears well maintained. We are not sure how they won any awards for their chicken. These were by far the most overcooked wings I have ever had. They also were the most lip puckering worthy as they had Almost what seems like super extra amounts of fresh lemon. Waited over an hour for food when we put in our order right when we came in. I got the bbq burger and it was over cooked to the point I took it off and it had the smallest amount sauce on it . I don't like complaining and was going to leave it alone until I woke up at 3am vomiting and cramping to the point of tears, later finding out the person I was with is have the same symptoms. Definitely the best wings in town with an incredible staff. My son and I went in and ordered 3lbs. Each one pound had a different flavor. It was hard to choose from I think 99 flavors they had on the menu. We went with a really spicy habanero bbq, traditional buffalo and honey garlic. The buffalo and honey garlic were our favorites. It paired perfectly with the two Pacifico beers we ordered. The wings were perfectly cooked and you really didn't need any dipping sauce, since they toss the wings in a good amount of sauce. I've been here a couple times now and I'm thoroughly impressed. First, the gentleman that seated us specifically offered us a spot in the corner that was a bit hidden away from the rest of the dining room so my partner and I would have a quieter and more private spot. There was a tv right in front of the table and he even offered to turn it around so we could choose something to watch. Stella was our server. She was so sweet and a total riot, really made us laugh. They didn't have the sauces we requested so the cook came out and offered us sauce samples so we could pick what we wanted instead plus Stella gave us a discount for the trouble. The food is delicious. I think they batter the fries and it creates the most unique texture and flavor. They also allow you to add any dry rub to the fries you want. The wings are the best in the area by far. Another server checked on us and brought us to go boxes and he totally didn't even have to, we had barely finished eating and hadn't been waiting long. The servers seem to really care about helping each other out as well as the patrons and it's just good vibes all around. On top of that, the very few less than favorable reviews of this establishment here on Yelp were met with such kindness and openness by the owner.
