Pho Pasteur seems to be very hit or miss, and the quality of the food varies substantially. I've had pretty good pho from here pre-Covid-19, and when I got take out recently, I found it to be subpar. The pho broth was just a little oily and disappointing. The banh mi combo that I ordered was even more disappointing. Ordered some pho and appetizer to go. It was overall okay. When I picked up, the place was mostly empty with a few people eating. The floor was a little slick (to be fair, it was rainy outside) but the rest of the place was clean. I was greeted and rung up quickly. The vegetarian spring roll was decent with a tasty peanut dipping sauce. We got three types of pho: one with beef, one with shrimp, and one vegetarian. BE AWARE: all of the broth was the same, so I would not rely on the others being pescetarian or vegetarian friendly. The broth was good, a little heavy on the star anise but not overpowering. The beef pho was standard, but good. The shrimp was okay, but a few of the shrimp were mushy in a they-shouldn't-have-served-these kind of way; we ditched those. The vegetarian was delightful with big chunks of cabbage, bok choy, and broccoli. It was just a little odd having that with a beef broth background. The prices are hard to beat and the food was ready quickly (I only live 10 minutes away). It's not my favorite pho place in town, but if I steer clear of the shrimp, I think I would come back. read more

Hands down my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area, and there's a LOT of competition. I confess, I'm not a big soup fan so I'll take my BF's word that the pho is excellent. I can say with total confidence that the bun is great. I'm obsessed with Vietnamese grilled pork and theirs does not disappoint. Add some grilled shrimp and you've really got something. My only complaint about the beef in grape leaves is that you get 3 to an order ethic means we always fight over who gets 2. Order hot tea and you get a pot of loose leaf jasmine with adorable glass cups. The iced tea was way too sweet for me but if you cut it with the jasmine tea, it's drinkable. Service is lighting fast. Smelled great but lacked flavor, and had I paid closer attention to the pictures, Id have noticed their Bún Bó Huė wld be bland and inauthentic. What they served me was the equivalent of beef pho, with a mildly savoury broth....at BEST. It wasn't even rich like this dish typically is...the broth was super thin and watered down like they diluted it to stretch. Definitely devoid of the layered beefy brothy depth achieved by simmering the meat and spices in the traditional manner. On top of that, I came in on a really chilly day, and it wasn't even piping hot. I've had this dish several times before with my Vietnamese friends, and this was a pretty crappy imitation. I definitely won't be back , especially when Pho Saigon is right up the road, as well as a plethora of other spots I could have tried instead. Pretty disappointing. read more

This is one the the best Pho spots around Ellicott City. The Pho broth is unique, to me this means I don't need to add fish sauce or hoisin sauce to it , just the normal Thai basil leaves and lime wedge. It's also at least $1 - $2 cheaper than everyone else. The appetizers were spot on to me, especially the beef wrapped in grape leaves. There is one more thing besides excellent friendly service, THEY ARE FAST WITH THE FOOD, for most things so far. I will be a forever repeat customer!! read more

I am not any expert on Vietnamese cuisine by any means, but this was not just as good as our regular place just .5 mile away. Our joint was closed on a Tuesday, so we ended up here at 1:30pm for lunch. It is never a good sign when you hear the microwave heating up a portion of your meal. Also, I had a bún noodle dish that was just okay. The egg rolls were over-fried and the noodles were very bland until I added chili sauce and soy sauce (#33). My husband did enjoy his clear noodle soup (#24). The summer rolls were sub-par compared to what we have had at other Vietnamese restaurants. The service was also not great, as there was no follow-up or guidance to what side dishes went with our two very different entrees. Again, I'm n expert, so I need assistance. Was on a mini vacation and went to Pho Pasteaur on recommendations from several boards. I have to admit, I'm a bit of a pho snob having grown up eating pho and other vietnamese soups. The boyfriend order the pho -- the broth was way too rich and beef was not that great. I, however, ordered the bun bo hue, and have to admit, it was great. If you don't like a lot of lemongrass, this may not be the soup for you. It is spicy with a lot of beef flavor. Service was good even though they were busy. I've been here twice so far, once for carryout and once for dine in. I give it 5 out of 5. Service is always amazing and fast. I mean, we seated and were given our food in abt 10 mins after we ordered. No joke. I went to wash my hands and the food was right behind me lol. I love that. And everything was delicious. I ordered the #7 pho and died shrimp. With an order of spring rolls. I wasn't sure if I would like them but loved them with the peanut sauce. So yummy and perfect for a cold day. My regular size bowl was just enough for me and even with the spring rolls was less than $15. Cant beat that I will definitely be back! Sorry didn't take pics I was too hungry lol read more

The main issue with this place would be their food safety and their response to covid 19. This Server went out side for smoke and came back without washing his hands, and right away serving without gloves on. A friend introduced me to Pho Pasteur. Located in a shopping center where H Mart is. I ordered the fresh garden rolls and this was not as impressive as other Vietnamese restaurants. The skin was broken in many areas so was pretty messy to eat. The pho is where this place really shines. Always taste the broth first! This broth was so umami and even the small bowl provided a large portion of noodles and meat. In addition to pho, my husband ordered the combination banh mi which I had a couple bites of. These were so good - the bread was nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. There was a variety of Vietnamese cold cuts with pate, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapeno. I always get the pho tai when I go here and have never been disappointed. If your looking for the type of pho you'd expect to find, this is your place. Some other area places slice their meat too thick or don't give hot enough broth with takeout but I've always had exactly what I'd expect from pho Pasteur and the workers are always prompt. read more

The best Bon Ba Hue I've ever had. We came to this spot because I heard good things about their Bon Ba Hue before. It turned out to be worth the visit! The soup has a hint of fresh lime, is flavorful but not too heavy, just perfect! The noodles are chewy while not hard. There's plenty of meat, such as beef tendon and pig feet, and they are all delicious. Service is just simple and fast. Parking is easy. After H Mart, I suggest Pho Pasteur for lunch. Just a few doors down in the same shopping center, Pho Pasteur invited us in for lunch and we accepted. We both had the vermicelli noodles with bean sprouts and lettuce with grilled chicken. Everything was delicious. We also had the spring rolls with a lovely spicy peanut sauce. Divine. All told, this was a little over $20, well worth the quality and amount of food. I had leftovers the next day for lunch and it was just as tasty. My friend told me this was her go to pho place in the area, and so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is somewhat small, properly ventilated and clean. Five minutes after I placed an order of pho dac biet, it arrived to my booth - unexpectedly fast!! You know when the broth is that good when you feel zero need to add hoisin sauce or any other condiments. Let me just say, I was pleasantly surprised - the broth was so clean AND you can actually taste the spices that are simmered in the broth. I could taste the star anise, and I wasn't mad about it. It was delicious! I ordered a regular size and it was the perfect portion. I almost never finish a bowl - even if it's a regular size - and this time around, I did. It was the broth. I had to deduct a star folks after my most recent visit. Feeling not like my fabulous self. Feeling like I was about to come down with something, and that is not good. Told my self, self...go on over to Pho Pasteur, get you a pho fix and BAM! All will be right with the world. I got the usual, the beef on beef on beef bowl. I got the smaller portion because the larger bowl was just too large for me. Guys, I was disappointed, like so disappointed that I didn't finish the bowl disappointed. Like so disappointed that I threw all of that beefy goodness in the trash disappointed. This isn't me. I don't waste food. I mean its damn sacrilege. The bowl lacked flavor this time, the beef was riddled with so much flippin fat, so much that it was impossible to eat. The sliced rare beef was something that I just couldn't chew. Completely underwhelmed, and annoyed. I think this can't be my pho spot anymore. What happened? Bummer. read more

My latest obsession here has been the #33. It's soupless pho noodles, topped off with grilled pork, lightly pickled radish, carrots, and cucumbers, shredded lettuce, and 2 fried spring rolls. It's meant to be topped off with the tangy, salty, sweet, spicy sauce (the sauce that accompanies the various appetizers). I usually steal SX's lime and add that in too. It's definitely a somewhat lighter fare option compared to a piping hot bowl of pho. I'm also a fan of their rice dishes as well. Don't be afraid to branch out of your pho comfort zone. So, this is a great option for groups where some want pho dishes and others are craving a rice-based dish. Service here can be a bit bleh sometimes, but it is sufficient. read more

I'm a huge fan of pho, and have tried a bajillion places in Baltimore already, but I sure was happy to discover a new one. This one takes the cake for fastest service. I went to the bathroom for a minute, during which my boyfriend placed the order for 2 combination pho, I came out, and bam, the food arrived. However, at the cost of amazingly fast service, I think the broth is subpar. The noodles are stuck together (which happens often), but something just felt missing in the broth. Not as savory? Not sure. They do put onions, and there is a hint of vinegar flavor too. The pho did come out piping hot, so I didn't have any problems with lukewarm broth. We also got rolls and both were great (summer and spring rolls). I would come here if it was convenient and if I was craving pho, but I live closer to better pho, so the best I can recommend is if you're around and craving pho, it's not a terrible option (there are worse), but I could suggest better places. read more

Went to Pho Pasteur on a pho mission because I was having a huuuge pho craving. I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is a few shops down from the Hmart in Catonsville, just paaast Hunan Taste. It's pretty easy to miss if you aren't looking for it as you exit a busy day of grocery shopping. We were greeted promptly and casually, this IS a hole-in-the-wall type of place, so don't expect anything fancy. Just great food. My husband and I each ordered a large pho special and they were whisked out to us in just minutes! We sat back as I snapped a million photos but even that delay didn't cause any problems as we took our first bites. The noodles had great texture, not too mushy at all. The flavor of the broth is rich and just the right amount of salty and sweet. I do love when I don't have to any extra hoisin or sriracha. All I added was the chili oil because I'm a sucker for it. Also the meat was super tender and didn't have a tough chew! Wins on all accounts! I definitely want to come back and try their "Beef Several Ways" that is listed on their menu. Pho Pasteur is definitely worth the hunt. So far it is beating anything we have in Baltimore City at the moment. But I am always open to being proven wrong. :D read more

Pho Pasteur is a great little restaurant. It's not much for ambiance, but the food is authentic and delicious, and the service is excellent. If you are a vegetarian, they will make you a veg banh mi with tofu even though it's not on the menu. Can't beat that! read more

That being said, pho Pasteur has fast service and very tasty pho. Small $6.50, large $7.50. They also have a wickedly creamy Thai iced tea that tastes like liquid candy! Boba optional. They also have a decent shake option with a real authentic flavor choices including avocado, durian, and jackfruit. For me, it's all about the broth and Pho Pasteur's just doesn't do it for me. It's pretty bland, and the spicy broth looks like they just added some chili oil to their regular broth and called it a day. Also, the noodle to broth ratio is lacking. I ordered a small that needed more broth for the amount of noodles and meat. While it wasn't inedible, it just didn't have the flavor that I've grown to love from my favorite spot. My go to place for Pho when I'm at school. You'll find a lot of UMBC kids here. Their service is excellent and very nice workers accompanied by a chill, casual environment. I think these meals are so underrated. They come with rice, meat, vegetables, and their special fish sauce. I like the beef one and pour the sauce over everything. I know - this being a pho place I should be ordering pho. But I guess I got tired of eating the same type of food and wanted to try something different. I'm glad I did! For their noodle meals, they always give a lot. The noodle to meats/veggies ratio is spot on and the quality is delicious.
