I don't write many reviews - but for a pho place, I was extremely displeased. The broth was waaaaaay too greasy, portion size was not good for the price, and to top it all off - my pho had flies in it! I only took two bites, so they were happy to replace my order - but ended up charging us full price anyways. We also got veggie/egg fried rice and that made us nauseous... This place is terrible. I most definitely prefer the Pho Nhat in Mesa a lot more. The broth here was extremely salty but had none of the flavor of herbs that GOOD pho broths have. I also tried to be polite and even spoke to the waitress in Vietnamese (given I am Vietnamese) and she responded with so much attitude and a fake smile when I asked simple questions about making adjustments to my bowl. Finally, when it came to paying she told me my total was one amount but I ended up getting charged a different amount and when looking at the receipt there was a service fee for the use of VISA I was unaware about. From my understanding that's illegal and not allowed... at least in California but I'm not entirely sure about the laws in Arizona. read more

Good pho We ordered the $8 #1 pho Nhat to share after a breakfast smoothie earlier... It had a good broth good noodles and definitely a solid 3.75 out of five stars for quality and flavor. My mind was not blown but it was good food. Tucked in the back of this strip mall is a quiet little Vietnamese food spot.... Staff seemed friendly. This place has THE absolute best lemongrass chicken in the history of lemongrass chicken. I have been going here for about twelve years now and I can't seem to get tired of it. It's not terrible but there are better pho places out there in Tempe. There's Pho Cao (good) and Khai Hoan (very good). Try those places in Tempe. Better pho places are even better in Mesa. I have been to many different Vietnamese restaurants not only here in Arizona but around the world and this one is my favorite. I have been coming here since 2005 and there is a reason why. Everything is Super Fresh including the Pho broth, which may be the best item on the menu. They have a large selection of items for people who don't like soup but most of the people that come here get the Pho soup of course. If you're ever sick, you can come in here and grab a bowl of just the broth and trust me, it will definitely make you feel a heck of a lot better. Bone broth is the way to go and they even give you extra spices to really customize the final taste of your soup. The first thing you'll notice is that this is a very small family-owned business. You may not be greeted immediately when you come in, but you can grab a seat and the owner will typically come out within a moment of hearing the front door open and bring everybody menus. So sometimes you have to wait a little bit longer but waiting 10 minutes for hot fresh soup is no big deal. Do you love coconut water? They will actually give you a whole coconut pre-cut with the spoon inside so you can enjoy coconut meat after you drink all of the water inside. I attached a receipt where a group of five of us went yesterday to go eat. Not only were we all super full but we actually had to take food home with us because there was no way we were going to be able to eat everything unless we sat there digesting our food for another hour. So the Pho, rice noodle soup bowl that is, which I ordered was the number 4, it was meat and I asked for extra veggies to be put inside. For about $10, I was able to enjoy two full bowls of soup, one at the restaurant and one at home this morning. They give you a container for any leftover soup that you want to take home with you. I've read some reviews where people don't seem to enjoy the non soup items but truthfully, I come for the soup, that's the name of the business, Pho Nhat, and even the other items I've had on the menu such as the curry are still pretty good, but soup is the best. I read a review or two where people are describing the soup broth as oily, obviously these people have never cooked bone broth in their life because when you boil bones for hours it does make it appear oily but it really enhances the flavor. In regards to the other Vietnamese restaurants in the valley, sure some of them have a lot more workers, they're faster and their prices might be better, but I care about the taste more than anything else. At this location, they put taste number one, so if you're expecting to get your soup in 2 minutes I'm sorry but you're going to have to wait a few. Small family-owned businesses are definitely the way to go and I have never been disappointed in the nearly fifteen years that I have been coming to this location. Someone once told me that the way you can tell a Vietnamese restaurant is really good is by the customers that come in and this place was full of Asians so you know it's amazing. What a little gem!! We just moved in a mile or two down the road and discovered this pho spot on Yelp. The owner is super sweet and even recognized someone in our party, knew their name and order by memory even thought it had been almost 10 years since she had seen him! We started with shrimp spring rolls and fried egg rolls. Came out super quick, very tasty! I ordered #4 which was very flavorful, probably some of the best pho that I've had in Phoenix. Just got off the plane and needed some lunch. Heard this was a pretty good spot. NOT! Maybe because I'm spoiled from the Bay, cuz this right here is nothing good aside from the AC. The egg noodle seafood was a mere two bites. The so-called seafood was a few cuts of the fake crab meat, 2 shrimps, and 1 shrimp cake ball. The broth was subpar. The worst was the lemon-grass chicken. It's not the chicken steak or thigh that I'm used to that is grilled. This was all chopped up in pieces and it tasted and looked more like Kung Pow chicken than the real deal. Bottom line: disappointed! Not returning even if I was in the area. read more

One day I was about to break because I was in need of some Pho, and happened to have a pretty bad sore throat. After finding this place on Yelp I walked over from my dorm and ordered #6 and #46. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was served and how quickly I got my food. I couldn't help but inhale the rolls, they were just so tasty! And the Pho was so soothing. It came out steaming and was full of flavor. The pho comes with a large plate of greens to add on which I appreciate a lot. One thing that keeps me coming back is the service. Walked in and asked if they had a high chair for my daughter to sit in and they said no. It wasn't a big deal we just grabbed a booth and waited. About two other tables had sat down after us and were immediately served. There were at least two servers on the floor helping people and both of them had to have walked past our table a good 4 or 5 times (the restaurant is small and seating is close together). We waited a good 10-15 minutes and made eye contact with both servers a few times and we hadn't been helped at all so we just ended up leaving... it felt like we were being avoided and it was all around an uncomfortable experience which is really upsetting since there arent a lot of decent pho places near me. Haven't been in years because I moved out of the valley. Recently moved back and came because this place was one of my delivered to hit (Dobson and southern location) I got the wonton pho, which again was a special thing I always really liked because I'd never seen it at other pho locations. The wontons were good, but the broth really wasn't. It had a very sour taste that no amount of hoisin or sriracha could cover up. Maybe it came from the random vegetables that didn't belong there. I mean, I've never gone to a pho place that had broccoli, carrots and cabbage in the soup. Their fresh rolls weren't really great either. Lettuce was sad and brown. Meat was over cooked by a large margin and over all it was super bland. I may try the place on Dobson again once more, but probably not this one on university. Thai tea was really good tho. My friends and I have been here so many times that the owner even knows me, and every time I go she can predict what I want to order, although most of the time I choose noodle soup with eggs. I have to say, the menu here is to my taste, whether it is egg noodles or rice noodles, they can be cooked just right without letting your noodles absorb too much water. They also serve steamed rice, and I personally recommend chicken curry, which is one of my favorite dishes. Since the restaurant has fewer waiters, if you can't stand the wait, it's best to arrive around 10 a.m. or 4 p.m., when there are fewer customers. Finally, let me tell you a secret recipe. Choosing a soup that is not spicy and then adding the hot sauce on the table will be more delicious than choosing spicy soup. read more
