I decided to try Pho Hanoi despite hearing many negative comments about the food among the UF Asian community. We went in the afternoon and the restaurant had a fair amount of customers which was a good sign (~4 tables other than us). The server was also really inviting and friendly which was another plus. For the food, I ordered number 3 (grilled pork, shredded pork, steamed pate) and my dining partner ordered a pho. The pho was the better part of the meal. However, it was only "okay". It wasn't really anything to write home about and I did not get that super savory broth taste. The rice plate was really disappointing. While the price was cheap, there was barely any grilled pork. The pate and shredded pork was also bland. On top of that, everything on the rice plate was no longer warm. Food was subpar but the price is decent. Come here not for authentic Vietnamese food but for a cheap filler. read more

If I had to compare my first time at Pho Hanoi versus this time, I would have to say Pho Hanoi's quality and taste have upgraded a lot. However, since I was raised up with Vietnamese cuisine/dishes, Pho Hanoi's dishes are still mediocre. My bf and I were short on time for lunch and we both didn't want to make food so it was convenient that we wanted pho. The closest pho place to our place was pho Hanoi and we couldn't go out of our way to go somewhere else. Since it was still morning timeish and I love coffee, I had to get their cafe sua da ($2.75). I also ended up ordering their pho tai nam ($8.50). The pho tai nam was pretty good. There was a lot of meats and fresh veggies on the side. I would have to say that it was low on noodles but it could be me just loving vermicelli noodles. It was soothing and great for that rainy day. In comparison to my first time at pho Hanoi, my dad and I didn't like it and the soup had something off. So I was honestly surprised how much they have improved. However, I don't see myself coming to Pho Hanoi other than an occasional basis. read more

This place was probably one of my most frequented restaurants when I was living in Gainesville. Now, many years later, I'm so glad to see that it was just as I remembered. Sure, the space has gotten a big bigger and the interior a bit nicer. But the food and atmosphere that has left many fond memories for me is just as I remembered. It's always comforting for me to come grab a meal here when I'm in town. And just like in the past, I had to get the House Special Fried Rice. You may say, "what?? No pho??" I'm not saying the pho is bad. On the contrary, I've had the pho many times and I think they do a great job. But my favorite item on the menu is the fried rice. It's just for the price you pay, you get a mound of food that leaves you full and satisfied. The chicken in the fried rice is always moist. The beef is tender. And the shrimp is nice and plump. The rice just has that delicious wok stir fried flavor that I've come to love. Pair that with the hot sauce and the hoisin sauce, it's the perfect combination of spice, sweetness, and savory flavors. Pho Hanoi, I can't wait to be back to grab that fried rice again some day :) read more

Honestly, I didn't expect to give Pho Hanoi 5 stars, but my experience today was so pleasant that there's no reason why I'd rate it any lower. I haven't been to Pho Hanoi in over two years, and the experience I had today exceeded expectations. The place was clean, they upgraded their menus to a sturdier material instead of the plastic kind, and the bun bo hue I ordered tasted very good. I even enjoyed the fortune cookie the waiter gave me (it looked and tasted different from the typical fortune cookies any other restaurant would have). They have a wide selection of entrees to choose from, and I think the options are reasonably priced (the bun bo hue is cheaper here than at another Gainesville Vietnamese restaurant). I would definitely come back. read more

Pho Hanoi is one of those places that is great if you just need a place to get pho, but terrible if you're looking for good pho. I often come here because it's the closest pho place to where I live, so it's perfect if you're looking for that hangover cure. The restaurant is fairly clean, but there are some flies flying around usually. The pho comes out extremely quickly. The pho isn't my favorite--I think there are much better places in Gainesville. If I don't order the pho, I order fried rice, and it's usually pretty good! Ultimately, I would never suggest going to Pho Hanoi, but would tag along with friends if they asked me to come. read more

Delicious healthy and fresh I would recommend to anybody who wants delicious healing food

Food was meh at best...went there one evening since we're in town. The pho broth was bland... The cooks in the back were so loud!!! Dated restaurant. Wouldn't recommend this place mostly the food was terrible. I'd put up with everything else of the food was at least good. read more

Bad service. I'm speechless. I saw this black hair-ish thing attaching on the tendon, so I asked one waitress. She just stared at me saying she didn't know what it is. Then I asked her to go and ask the kitchen. Then, she went away and never came to my table again. My boyfriend went to ask another waitress, and she said it is cow hair.okay, then I was looking up online because I don't believe hair grows on tendon part. She started to explain (in bad attitude obviously). No one said sorry to me during the entire time, and their attitude was like terrible. I mean, excuse me, I'm the one who come here and have such bad experience, and now, you guys are actually showing attitude to me? ? I mean, I'm not an expert of studying cow or chef of Pho, I of course may have questions. If your customer has questions, answer it nicely and thoroughly. I'm not going there to pay and get such experience. read more

This place is just okay. I dislike the fact that they don't have a broken-rice menu instead they have regular steam rice. The pricing here is a little pricey, but then considering that their location (G-ville) it's understandable. Decor, um lets just say whoever decorated the place had too many ideas and didn't stick with one. I ordered the BBQ Pork Vermicelli. It was okay. The meat wasn't flavorful enough for me, but then again this particular Vietnamese cuisine is more americanized with the taste. Overall, not a bad experience or anything. It's just okay. read more

Great bang for your buck. Their pho is delicious. We have also had their yellow curry which was really sweet and delicious. I did add some of their chili sauce to it for a bit of a kick. I also really like the bbq pork bahn mi. The veggies are so crisp and fresh. This is a place we keep coming back to when we want a great meal without spending more than $30. I am on a hunt for the best Pho in Gainesville. I have to say Pho Hanoi just did not hit the mark for me. I wanted a big bowl of Pho the other day and decided I would check this place out since I am hunting for the best Pho in Gainesville. I arrived on a Wednesday night to find a less than busy restaurant. I kinda knew what I wanted going in since I wanted Pho. The price is not very expensive, but I think they lack quality since they do not charge very much. I ended up getting the, Tai Chin Gau Gan Sach. Which is noodles with lean brisket in a beef broth. Lets talk the broth - Usually Pho broth is rich with aromatics and very flavorful. I found the broth here to just be bland and not much taste in it. It kinda seemed like they opened up beef broth and used that. I am giving their broth 2.5/5. Lets talk about the Noodles. I did not find the type of noodle I was looking for. This was a rice noodle, but it seemed more like a spaghetti noodle. For noodles I give this place 3.5/5. They did give a good helping of noodles and that helps. Moving on to the meats. I found the meats fresh and thinly sliced, but their was a lot of fat on the meats that I got. I don't think the meat was the best quality so lets move to 3/5. Finally the extras. I like the extra of bean sprouts and leaves. I think this was the freshest thing so 4/5. So for the Pho they get 13 out of 20 points for the Pho here. The service was good and the inside of the restaurant is really nice. I would like to try Pho Hanoi a second time and I will update my review if the service is better. But for now a solid maybe 2.5 place for Pho, but not the best Pho in Gainesville. read more

I love the food here so much I try to ignore the filth. It's dirty and sticky everywhere. The bathrooms are the worst. The tables are sticky, floors brown, dust everywhere. Why does the food have to be soooo good. I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like. read more

SO. This is not about the pho. It's about the Bahn Mi. I think the best Bahn Mi I've had in gainesville was at Faith Vietnamese, but this is tying for second place (Taste is the other contender). Obviously, It's not like super amazing because I am only giving it 3 stars, but I feel that for Gainesville, that's pretty decent. The best bahn mi i've ever had hands-down-swear-on-my-life was at RUSTLE and STILL CAFE in TORONTO, CA. I know. No travelling there now, but when y'all get a chance you need to hit that cafe UP. Read my review about it. Best. Bahn. Mi. Ever. Anyways, Pho Hanoi. Their combo bahn mi had the pate on it, and I love the depth that pate adds to the sandwich. They had a generous portion of meat on it, and some crunchy veggies. The bread wasn't SUPER crust, which my boyfriend, liked, but I on the other hand like a good crunch. Not a stale, thick, cutting your gum crunch, but a texture-ally exciting crunch. Enjoyed eating this bahn mi with their pho (even though their pho is not that good). Obviously, since I live in Gainesville, I'll come here again. But seriously, someone take me back to Rustle and Still Cafe T-T read more

Reviews are accurate. Ordered the pho with rare steak and tendon ($8). Mostly noodles, 4 pieces of steak (didn't come out rare like most pho I've had) and 2 small pieces of tendon. They give plentiful sides (basil, sprouts, lime, jalapeno). Ordered a Viet sandwich to go ($5). Total $13.85 and I gave a $20. They returned $1.15. They took $5 automatically for tip!! That's over 20% tip for a conservative meal. I had to go ask for the rest of my change back. I said I could give more tip if he breaks the $5. He said I only got four 1s. So I said keep $3 for yourself. He gave me $2 back....I said I need $1 more and he did. Despite that super awkward exchange, staff is really friendly and you can use the WiFi from lollicup to watch a show while eating. Overall, I wouldn't be back though. read more

Won't come back, restroom is so dirty, table and booth so sticky, pho is so bland. Restaurant smells so bad.

Okay so I've given Pho Hanoi the benefit of the doubt before and came here more than once. Each time I come here however, I've gotten bad diarrhea. Like the blood comes out of my butt bad. Like flaming bullets of pain. The food has been and continues to be mediocre, there's not much in terms of flavor. I've tried both the fried egg rolls and the shrimp wrapped ones. Had at least 3 different kinds of beef pho and still ended up getting flaming poops every time. Maybe it's just my stomach when I come here, but I'm definitely not advocating for others to come here. Service was mediocre as well, nothing special. The usual, "you eat, you pay, you leave", kinda vibe. They did renew the decorations since last I visited but again... nothing that special that stood out to me. Pricing was fair compared to other alternatives currently in town. But ask yourself one question, Price or Flaming Poo. read more

Come here to expect a quick, average-tasting meal for a reasonable price. As my Vietnamese friend said, there really isn't a good place to get Vietnamese food in Gainesville. However, this restaurant is a viable option if you are willing to settle. Indeed, if my dish cost more than $10, I would not come back. Below is the Thai Curry Chicken made with yellow curry sauce. Although the overall taste of the sauce and curry were pretty good with a nice spice level, I was disappointed to find less than 30% of the dish was chicken. Instead there was an overabundance of onions. Furthermore, the bamboo shoots were not cooked thoroughly as they had an uncomfortably hard texture. read more

I'm not a Vietnamese food expert, but my co-workers raved about the food. Mine was good, but my friend's was amazing. She got the S-4 Spicy Beef Noodle Bowl & let me have a taste. The depth of flavor was amazing. It's a cravable kind of dish & I will be ordering that next visit. We finished the meal with Sesame Balls, which were a fun consistency of chewy & crunchy, sweet & doughy. Prices were very inexpensive & the service was great. This is a great restaurant. I've been here quite a few times, and I always get the pho. I see that some of the reviews say it's not "authentic", but who cares? It's delicious, especially if you go and get the pho in the winter! The warm tasty broth and noodles will leave you with the satisfying feeling you get after a great meal. If you are more adventurous like me, you can add Sriracha and Hoisin Sauce they provide at all the tables in your pho. Even with tears welling up in my eyes from the spicy and hot meal, I continue to devour it because it's just that good!! Today I actually ordered something different for once, which was the rice vermicelli with grilled chicken. There was lettuce, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumber, and a light savory sauce, which went very well with the dish. It was fresh and delicious, and the perfect amount of food. I was very happy with what I ordered and of course I will be coming back. :) read more

****.5 Stars (rounded up) Okay forget it; screw the dumplings, their Samosas are the new stars!! Light, crispy, perfectly fried, you can eat about 20 of them, and you'll WANT to. The accompanying mango dipping sauce is wonderfully sharp and vibrant. But really the dumplings are still amazing; but really the samosas are beyond good. What about the entrees? The Pho is fantastic-- notes of coriander and other aromatics in an "umamified" broth. The Chicken Curry (yellow curry) is neither too sweet nor too spicy and hits the ideal balance. What both dishes have in common is that, although there is a lot going on, nothing overwhelms or steps on anything else. All textures, flavors and intensities exist harmoniously on one plate. Honestly I think these are the two best dishes on the menu hands-down. Gainesville NEEDS this place. read more

I traveled around the world and state to state. It's a decent place to eat pho and Vietnamese food. If your looking into a five star pho restaurant with the fancy dishes your going to be disappointed. Go to a bigger city and enjoy the same pho and pay more money. Reminds me of the good old restaurants in Asia...not too fancy and still good food. Hair in your food, pick it off and keep eating, still good pho. You should see what you get in China lol. You're not going to find another place like this in Gainesville as there isn't too much diversity here....just a college town. Perfect spot to get your pho craving fixed. read more

tl;dr Honestly, this place is great, and much better than the other options for vietnamese food in gainesville The pho broth is very flavorful, and you get a sizable amount of meat for what you pay for. Bad service. We placed our order as soon as we got there, they served our drinks but then we ended up waiting sitting for 45 mins waiting for our pho and fried rice. Both simple orders, the place wasnt even crowded when we got there but when we asked where are orders are they said they're just making it. Really, after 45 mins? For a soup and fried rice? How long does it take to make them when the broth is ready, the veggies and meat pre-chopped and the noodles and rice are already cooked? All they have to do is put it together? Our server we're pretty sure forgot about us, out of the 5 tables occupied at that time. The table next to us who came after us are already eating. We ended up walking out. And we are not coming back here ever again. So if you're looking for an asian place to ear, go to Red Rice, cool place, great service, tasty food and they even have vegan options. read more

Great service, great pho but you'll have to be okay with waiting on your food. The prices are economical.

Pho Hanoi has really improved from the past few years I've been in Gainesville. I was a little skeptical about going because of the things I've heard from friends about their health regulations and food nightmare stories but ever since its been remodeled and under new ownership, all the negative comments had stopped. One of the first and regular dishes I get is their combination fried rice. I really like how it has seafood and beef in it and how the rice is seasoned well with the perfect balance of sesame, garlic, and salt. It's the perfect food to eat there or on the go and the portion is so big that it could last for a second meal later in the day. Recently, I tried the bird's nest with beef and rice with grilled pork entrees. The bird's nest was kind of disappointing because o the lack of sauce in which left the noodles to be dry and too crunch and the topping of the dish was filled with a good amount of vegetables and meat. The rice dish was a little smaller than what I'm used to at Vietnamese restaurants but the presentation was nice and the meat was had a nice grilled, smoky flavor with no burnt pieces and still tender. Overall, the food wasn't too impressive but it does the job when you're in the mood for Vietnamese food. The servers are really nice and the appearance of the restaurant looked clean overall. read more

This Vietnamese restaurant is mediocre, but I often eat pho here because it's convenient and close to various apartment complexes. There are many choices on the menu including the popular dishes like pho (a Vietnamese noodle soup), Banh mi (a sandwich with cilantro, daikon and your choice of meat) and fried rice. When I dine in, I usually get the pho noodle soup with the beef medium rare (P-6) and usually I like my beef well-done however the beef comes out well done from sitting in the broth! It's not the best pho that I have ever eaten, but it is a filling meal for $8. I have also eaten the Banh mi and have found that it is expensive ($5) compared to other restaurants but the beef with onions is pretty flavorful. As for the atmosphere - the servers are not too attentive. Last time I went with my boyfriend, we had to seat ourselves because there was only one server at the time and she was taking care of 4 tables along with being a hostess. Also, the A/C in the restaurant is barely ever turned on so it is like a sauna in there. The owner is seen at the restaurant sometimes but does not seem very friendly either. Overall - I eat here because it's convenient but it is definitely not one of my top Vietnamese restaurants. read more

Pretty standard and basic Vietnamese cuisine. I usually just stick with the basics of Pho or vermicelli. I do wish though that they would give a bit more meat, i usually just get the soup with beef in it and there are like two pieces at most. This was my first Time here. My husband and I typically eat in but our daughter wasn't feeling well so we took out. We ordered the pho noodle soup, a bahn mi sliced pork sandwich and an order of the pork spring rolls. The pork sandwich was alright- it lacked meat as others have stated. They could easily get another star if they improved the quality of this sandwich cause it has potential to be very solid. The bread was nice and crusty and just an FYI for those trying this out, it is dry so there is no moist dressing inside. The spring rolls looked sad... They were a lot smaller than other area pho places and the pork inside appeared to be a boiled waterlogged color. Not that appealing. It had no flavor and the peanut sauce to dip in was Totally watery and gross. The pho came with a generous portion of rice noodles. It was tasty. Not the best I've had but not the worst. read more

Nothing special, but depends how desperate you are out here in the middle of nowhere. Their Chow Fun is NOT fresh, as they claimed, it is the dried, hard kind that is used for Pad Thai. It was tasteless anyway. Veggie egg rolls were ok, no fish sauce like we are use to, they instead had a sweet sauce. Soups, fried rice, Crispy noodles were just ok.
