I'm not really sure what New York style Chinese food is unless they mean Northern US style which implies a higher quality than that typically found in the South. Regardless, Bamboos actually claims "New York Styel" Chinese food, a misspelling I have never seen before. It reminds me of the joke when I was in Seattle, go into a Starbucks and ask if they have "Seattle's best coffee" and they have to say no because there is another Seattle based coffee chain actually called Seattle's Best Coffee. That's the first thought that ran through my head. Does Bamboos have New York style Chinese food? NO. They have New York STYEL Chinese food. In any case, considering Bamboos is located in the Haile Plantation area, I expected better quality. Alas it is typical bargain basement strip mall Chinese food. This is unfortunate because otherwise the restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. The person who took our order even gave us two free sodas. Nice. The steak teriyaki was overdone and dry and didn't have much teriyaki flavor. The pork fried rice was below average in taste and could have used more pork and vegetables. The dumplings and crab rangoons were decent but the rangoons were a bit overcooked. My husband had the spare ribs on the bone and reported they were too small and weren't that good. We thought we had ordered sesame chicken but when we got home it was missing from the bag and upon checking the receipt we noticed we weren't charged for them even though we are pretty sure we ordered them. Oh well. We weren't impressed enough to go back.

Ive enjoyed their dishes, though not extraordinary they were fresh, hot, tasty & satisfying. The service was good also, I'm always glad to feel appreciated for my business. The sweet& sour chicken could use vegetables like peppers & onions cuz it's served with none of those. Also the hunan & gen tso chicken indicated they were spicy but really really mild. Maybe ask if you really want it spicy. Also the lunch special while a fair price for what you get- I would prefer to have an egg role or spring roll rather than a can of soda but that's my preference.

I've driven past this restaurant for many years and decided to give it a try tonight. I love Chinese take out and wanted this to be good because it is near my home. First, the positives: it was quick, maybe 10 minutes, good sized portions and cheap. I ordered 2 egg rolls, large sub gum wonton soup, large cashew chicken and small shrimp fried rice - total cost $30. The soup was satisfying and a bargain at $6.95 and the crispy noodles to put on top were thick, crunchy and great. However, the broth needed salt and there was very little chicken or other meat in it. Now the negatives: there is no flavor in the food, the cashew chicken had very little sauce and was loaded with celery and carrots. The pieces of chicken were thin, twisted strips that looked like skin, not real meat and the consistency was mushy and not at all like chicken should be. One of my pet peeves with Chinese fast food is the lack of quality vegetables - using celery in place of bok choy or to make the quantity appear larger is a turn off. Also, loading up a dish like chicken and cashews with celery and carrots and then skimping on the sauce and no seasoning definitely makes it something I would not order again. Moving on to the shrimp fried rice, it was bland, no color to the rice and very few tiny popcorn size shrimp with peas and carrots. I get that good seafood and veggies cost more - I would pay more for better quality. Regardless, there is no excuse for skimping on soy sauce when cooking fried rice and it should have caramelized crispy parts - this was simply steamed rice with a small amount of shrimp and a few steamed veggies tossed in. Lastly, the egg rolls were tough and tasteless. Even though I literally pass this restaurant every day, I'm sad to say I will keep driving.

Best Chinese food I've had in Gainesville they're also very nice people never have I had a bad time eating out at bamboos.

Best Chinese in town! Hands down! Everything I've had so far is delicious and the food isn't greasy like most Chinese restaurants.

We visited So Hao Café for the first time and came away with a bit of a mixed experience -- but…read moreoverall, a positive one that definitely has us planning to return. We started with the wonton soup, which was visually beautiful. The broth had a rich, inviting color and the wontons themselves were excellent -- thin, delicate wrappers with a very flavorful filling. Unfortunately, the broth itself was a bit underwhelming and lacked depth. A touch of hot mustard helped bring it to life, but it needed more natural flavor on its own. The standout dish of the meal was the Mu Shu Pork. Absolutely fantastic. The portion was generous and the flavor reminded us of classic Mu Shu from WoHop in NYC's Chinatown -- high praise. The pancakes were incredibly thin, almost paper-like and nearly translucent, yet soft and perfect for wrapping. This dish alone makes us want to come back. The Bang Bang noodles were another dish that looked beautiful when served, but the flavor didn't quite match the presentation. The sauce seemed watered down and there was quite a bit of liquid in the bowl, which muted the overall taste. It felt very close to being great, just not fully there yet. Overall, this was a mixed but promising first visit. There's clearly real skill in the kitchen, and when the flavors hit, they hit well. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying more dishes -- and we'll happily update this review after our next visit.
