For Chinese take out, Bamboos is pretty standard across the board. I called my order in, the order was ready when I got there, the order was accurate, and the food pretty normal for again, Chinese take out. I did like that they had an entire table set up for grab and go sauces, chopsticks, etc..... once I picked up my order from the counter I was able to grab the "extras" before leaving. Bamboos in Haille Plantation needs to just close! The employee answering the phone became irritated with just two simple questions about the food ( no descriptions in the online menu). The spring roll was the size of my pinky finger, and the shrimp in the shrimp egg foo young was just as small and hard to find! Comparable to what you might get at Raiford Prison I would expect. Sad to say it just wasn't very good. I got chicken snappeas, which is a combination I really enjoy. Unfortunately the chicken was rubbery, and the sauce was just slimy. My wife got vegetable lo mein, which she liked overall, though not outrageously good. The added tofu was unseasoned and chewy. I'm not really sure what New York style Chinese food is unless they mean Northern US style which implies a higher quality than that typically found in the South. Regardless, Bamboos actually claims "New York Styel" Chinese food, a misspelling I have never seen before. It reminds me of the joke when I was in Seattle, go into a Starbucks and ask if they have "Seattle's best coffee" and they have to say no because there is another Seattle based coffee chain actually called Seattle's Best Coffee. That's the first thought that ran through my head. Does Bamboos have New York style Chinese food? NO. They have New York STYEL Chinese food. In any case, considering Bamboos is located in the Haile Plantation area, I expected better quality. Alas it is typical bargain basement strip mall Chinese food. This is unfortunate because otherwise the restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. The person who took our order even gave us two free sodas. Nice. The steak teriyaki was overdone and dry and didn't have much teriyaki flavor. The pork fried rice was below average in taste and could have used more pork and vegetables. The dumplings and crab rangoons were decent but the rangoons were a bit overcooked. My husband had the spare ribs on the bone and reported they were too small and weren't that good. We thought we had ordered sesame chicken but when we got home it was missing from the bag and upon checking the receipt we noticed we weren't charged for them even though we are pretty sure we ordered them. Ive enjoyed their dishes, though not extraordinary they were fresh, hot, tasty & satisfying. The service was good also, I'm always glad to feel appreciated for my business. The sweet& sour chicken could use vegetables like peppers & onions cuz it's served with none of those. Also the hunan & gen tso chicken indicated they were spicy but really really mild. Maybe ask if you really want it spicy. Also the lunch special while a fair price for what you get- I would prefer to have an egg role or spring roll rather than a can of soda but that's my preference. read more

I've driven past this restaurant for many years and decided to give it a try tonight. I love Chinese take out and wanted this to be good because it is near my home. First, the positives: it was quick, maybe 10 minutes, good sized portions and cheap. I ordered 2 egg rolls, large sub gum wonton soup, large cashew chicken and small shrimp fried rice - total cost $30. The soup was satisfying and a bargain at $6.95 and the crispy noodles to put on top were thick, crunchy and great. However, the broth needed salt and there was very little chicken or other meat in it. Now the negatives: there is no flavor in the food, the cashew chicken had very little sauce and was loaded with celery and carrots. The pieces of chicken were thin, twisted strips that looked like skin, not real meat and the consistency was mushy and not at all like chicken should be. One of my pet peeves with Chinese fast food is the lack of quality vegetables - using celery in place of bok choy or to make the quantity appear larger is a turn off. Also, loading up a dish like chicken and cashews with celery and carrots and then skimping on the sauce and no seasoning definitely makes it something I would not order again. Moving on to the shrimp fried rice, it was bland, no color to the rice and very few tiny popcorn size shrimp with peas and carrots. I get that good seafood and veggies cost more - I would pay more for better quality. Regardless, there is no excuse for skimping on soy sauce when cooking fried rice and it should have caramelized crispy parts - this was simply steamed rice with a small amount of shrimp and a few steamed veggies tossed in. Lastly, the egg rolls were tough and tasteless. Even though I literally pass this restaurant every day, I'm sad to say I will keep driving. read more

I ordered at 6:39 PM it is now 7:45 and I have received my order. As I was told by one of the workers there, when you call your order is taken by a third-party company who then transferred that order to the restaurant. The third-party company told me 30 minutes and when I arrived at the restaurant at 7:10 I was told it would be a couple more minutes but I went ahead and (stupidly) paid for my food. I came in a few minutes later and they told me it would be 20 more minutes. I Returned 20 minutes later and they gave me my food and then I spent 10 minutes having a conversation with them about getting at least a partial refund. The person who I think was the owner first offered a full refund if I gave the food back which I was now starving so I wasn't going to let that happen. Then she wrote my phone number down on a piece of paper saying that next time I call she would give me $10 off. I was finally able to get $10 cash back. The food is all still hot so my only guess is that the third-party took their sweet time telling bamboos about the order or that bamboos was told of the order and forgot to cook it the first time. read more

I used to like the food at this restaurant until the day there was a huge wasp like insect in my fried rice. I, of course, wanted to puke, but instead I picked up the phone and I called them to complain. They didn't believe me and I had to send them a texted pic of it. Then, they said I had to bring the food back to the store to get the refund back. So, I took the food back and they didn't even give me a full refund because they said there was food gone out of the container....Yeah, about three bites from before I found the wasp body in it! Had the Hunan chicken lunch special on my first visit to Bamboos. Was really good, nice chicken and lots of nice vegetables. My food was made after I ordered - hot and fresh. Meal was very affordable for the quality. Will be getting food here again. Hope to add to this review when I have tasted more of the menu. Had more of the food from Bamboos a couple of days later. Everything we ordered was very good. String beans with roast pork were cooked to the right doneness with a nice sauce and large thin pieces of roast pork. Been eating food from this place for years. It got pretty bad several years ago, so we went elsewhere. Tried this place again today (9/4/21). They had the most bizarre COVID barriers everywhere, was actually hilarious. The order was seriously screwed up, items added, others left off. And ALL of the food was terrible. We like spicy, picked spicy items from menu (pepper symbol means spicy), but NOTHING had any flavor. Tasted like cardboard. Spring rolls used to be excellent, but today they were horrible. Crunchy outside, tastless mushy center, again without flavor. The shrimp were well cooked, but again, no flavor. They really need someone who can speak English. Since Marshall's BBQ in Texas. I got mu shu pork and the fiancé got a chicken dish... And of course we both tried each other's and we're both occupying bathrooms on the opposite sides of the house right now. The egg rolls tasted funny too. I took two bites and stopped. I'm sorry to say that we can't recommend Bamboos. We stopped in for some take out, my wife getting Gen Tso's Chicked which tasted pretty good, and Kung Pao shrimp for me which was terrible. Very few shrimp, LOTS of diced veggies, no peppers at ALL. But the worst of it was that we both felt awful after eating (we shared). Mild food poisoning I think. So, no more Bamboo for us. read more

This is (in my opinion) THE BEST in town, it's real, good, NY style Chinese food. I have eaten here 50+ times when I lived over on the haile side of town. The staff (besides a few) aren't the strongest in English, but they always understood me and were always very friendly and I always make sure to let them know how satisfied I am with the food, it is all made fresh in the back right after your order and they have a cooler of drinks to choose from that will satisfy your order, :) and the "chopsticks" and "fortune cookies" are always a nice plus when eating food such as this. I have had many items from the menu but, I always get my personal fave and always tasted the best to me, the Gen. Tso's Chicken, and since I'm a big guy I get the large order which is essentially a tub of chicken lol. After eating this for awhile I started to get more added on to the order, such as an order of chicken lo mein, chicken egg rolls (which comes in twos) and chicken teriyaki (which is chicken on a skewer usually 3 to 4 per box). The chicken lo mein is pure excellence the chicken is nice and tender, with this lovely brown sauce they lightly coat the noodles with in the dish tastes wonderful, the chicken in the noodles has a taste consistent with Campbell's Chicken noodle soup, the noodles are always of nice consistency and very filling the dish overall has nice flavor that subtly all comes together for that "wow" factor I give this dish an overall 4/5. The egg rolls are short of mind blowing, they come two per pack and are always hot, and have the soft-ish crunch on the outside leading to a yummy center that is always hot and fresh and has a great pallet of both consistency and flavor that will send you into bliss point of pleasure as the food meets your oh so thankful taste buds like heaven in your mouth. I give these a 5/5 The Chicken teriyaki... Wow! It comes in a seperate box with Peices of chicken breast some how cooked in teriyaki that is put on a skewer shock makes it easier to eat, it usually comes with 3 to 4 Peices a box, the flavor for some people is a little strong as you can kind of taste the sodium, but personally I LOVE THIS STUFF, the hot fresh chicken mixed with the zinging flavors of teriyaki and the fresh, juicy, tender, and hot chicken just all comes together in a way that's just incredible and you will enjoy. I give this a 4/5 Now! Last but DEFINITELY NOT the least, the General Tso's Chicken, there is so much I could say about this, it is the best I've ever had in town and probably any where else. The hot subtlety of the chicken mixed with the ringing flavor of the very awesome sauce, with the underlying subtleties of the crunchy broccoli, and the kicking POW of the chillis it all comes together in a way that is (in my mind) complete perfection! It is a dish that will keep you coming back for more, as it did for me, and will bring you to that point where the first to last bite you just have to close your eyes and slowly chew as your taste buds explode with complete satisfaction, and top notch excellent food that is just beyond explectations, the mouth watering sauce, mixed with the subtle taste of the few Peices of broccoli in it, and the spice explosion of the chilli pepper that all comes together in a way that will make you feel complete bliss and comfort as you eat the fresh hot tender sweet nd spicy juicy chicken. Of course a 5/5 In my overall experience from customer service, to order time, to the freshness, and overall quality, this has to be one of the best places in all of Gainesville to eat, it is an awesome place that will keep you coming back for more, and if you order like I do you will have enough to feed a small family or like I do, come back for more and eat the same meal 3 or more times as I can not finish it all in one sitting, and with the price it is just worth it on every single Level, I hope you enjoy it as I did and you need to promise yourself you will eat here at least once! Hurricane Irma was bearing down on Gainesville when we found that Bamboos was still open. Although I have spent a lot of time in the area, we had never eaten here. The moo shu was tasty and, unlike most restaurants, the pancakes were moist. We also had stir fried mixed vegetables that were fresh and cooked crisp. The Pu Pu platter had nicely fried wings. Excellent NY style Chinese take out with a warm and friendly staff. I just moved here from NYC and their Singapore Mei Fun is simply amazing and their Shrimp Roll is fantastic.
