The chicken hot pot came in a cute and surprisingly clean ceramic pot. The chicken was delicious and the rice was perfect. If you've ever read any of my reviews you know Ban Hoi is my go to. It's flat rice noodles that look sort of like Wheat Chex. It comes with your filling and lettucs and you can wrap the whole thing in the lettuce or just in the ban hoi. This version comes with a literal zip loc bag full of rice wrappers and a bowl. The waitress seemed skeptical that I'd like it but I love using rice wrappers. My method was rice wrapper, lettuce herbs, cucumber olek sambal and the meat rolled up. They were the best ban hoi I've had here and I've had a lot of them. The waitress was incredibly friendly and by the time we left the place was busy with in house customers and pick ups. Great place not far from Central and Nob Hill. Worth the short drive!!!

Saigon Restaurant on San Mateo is in a very sad condition…read more Although in business a stunning 26 years, Saigon has declined precipitously in quality AND service -- not to mention an equally stunning increase in prices. They are clearly resting on their laurels, which they have mounted in ancient. yellowing newspaper reviews in the entryway, with one or two also posted in the restaurant itself. Oh, they used to be SO good - and cheap! I understand beef can be fairly expensive, and good help - as always! - is hard to find. But sheesh. Yelp's menu prices are WAY wrong. I glanced at them on the way to Albuquerque and thought, well, prices have gone up for the regular-sized pho from $5.50 when I was at in college, to $10. Not too bad. WELL, there was an adhesive strip posted over all the old menu prices to "correct" that to $14.50 for a medium bowl. Prices current as of 22 August, 2026. Small and large bowls, which are bizarrely not listed on the menu are $10 even, and $18.50, respectively. The small is literally tiny; perhaps okay for a small child. I got exactly one tiny piece of the five meats in my "deluxe" pho. I probably should have gotten a large. We were pressed for time for a concert, however. Our neighboring table (the ONLY one in the restaurant at dinnertime - a damning sign!) both got large bowls and I could hear one of the patrons stating they were still not full. Pho broth was insipid and weak -- not utterly delicious as before. I've had better from pho broth mix from the grocery store. It seems they may be cutting back on spices, as well as the amount of meat. And sheesh, last but not least (as I said, we had to get to a concert in Albuquerque), the server forgot my ($6!!) Vietnamese coffee, which we like to savor as we eat our meals. He brought it as we were leaving!! And then he forgot my wife's Vietnamese coffee!!! We nearly had to get them to get them to go. We just chugged them like frat boys. And THEN, they still charged us the full $12. Plus tax. I mean, I guess they tried. And they used to be good. But a comp would have been nice. And the quality of food and the service is WEAK. One star, but I am only adding a star to be generous, and they used to be SO good. Very sad. AVOID SAIGON RESTAURANT, unless Gordon Ramsay shows up to fix this place. And if he shows up, immediately put your utensils down and demand a refund.
